The food is nothing less than amazing. The clam chowder has sadly been taken off the menu from what I believe is because of Covid-19 and was my family's favorite item there. I had to take the time to write a review. My wife and I ordered dinner from here last night and due to a food allergy had specific instructions on how we needed our wraps prepared. We ordered through GrubHub and the food arrived quickly. One of the wraps was made incorrectly and I called the restaurant. The Manager could not have been more polite and said that they would make a new one and have it to us right away. Within 15 minutes a new correctly made wrap was delivered. Haven't been here for a while... but I sure do miss the 10 cent wings! They only have 3 flavors, but every time I ordered 10 honey buffalo wings with a side of sweet potato fries, it would get me through the week. Their service is very friendly and becomes very familiar if you visit a lot. I've only been here on wing nights but I've heard the rest of their food is pretty good too. Sunday or Monday wing nights are the best for getting over Monday blues. But if you do go, make sure you go when it starts.. it gets busy! read more

I've been to this restaurant a number of times now. I have to say go at dinner! Even though for lunch they do offer special prices on their menus, the sizes are a tad smaller and you don't get the corn bread! Seriously, their corn bread is really good. Everyone that I've had an encounter with has been pleasant and have served me well. They have a keen attention to details as far as getting your orders correct and coming back to refill drinks regularly. This is quite important for myself since I tend to over drink water. As for the food, I've had a number of their items. I have to say the steak tips are amazing. Something about their sauce I just have not been able to duplicate. I believe this is their signature dish. They also do a pretty good chicken pot pie with a bit of a filla dough as the crusted top. My parents live a couple blocks away, so I've been here several times. I'm allergic to dairy, which doesn't leave a whole lot on the menu, but I generally get a burger and they are great. They have lots of options for things to put on them (avocado, grilled onion, etc.) and will customize them any way you want. The fries are pretty good too. My favorite thing about John Brewer's is the beer selection. They always have new and interesting things on tap in addition to old favorites. Plenty of seasonals and rotating taps, so if you come here a lot you probably won't get bored with the beer choices. There tends to be a wait on weekend nights, so you might be better off with takeout, which they do well with. They also have a few nights with specials, so be sure to check those out before you go. read more

two stars and im sorry JB's i use to like you, what happened? so as the review usually starts....wifey just got back from a trip to CT and she was hungry, i was too and we werent going shopping this late nor cooking the remnants of supplies we had on hand from over the weekend when i was left to fend for myself(not pretty), so we compromised on good old standard JB. well i thought it was a good idea at first, i was wrong. so we get there and the place is jumping, looking at the crowd and my heart starts thumping, want to dance cause i heard the groove, just dont stand there....ooops, where was i.. ah yes, the crowd. so up the host stand, are you here for 10 cent wings, cause theres the line, uh no, no wings for us please, booth for two. no problems yet...here are the menus, thanks...well it appears they have good cornbread, i know cause some fell outa the menu onto the table in front of me, eww. i thought this was someones dinner, but lo and behold, there come out the free cornbread. which by the way was good. i resisted the temptation of eating all 5 pieces, it wasnt easy. so i decide to not concern myself with the dirty menu with stagnate crumbs nor the dirty (semi) plate to which i should feast on said new cornbread and move to the order. one diet coke for me, not flavorful and required a switch to another beverage. it happens, not the waitstaffs fault, but this review isnt about them, its about the food and this is just the start my yelpers, this is the start. so i decided on fish and chips, ive had them before, pretty good imo, mermer went with old smokey, oops i mean old faithful, the veggie burger. she wanted that, i could tell hence why we ended up here. well the dinner took quite a while to come out, again yet another concern i had with this place. when it finally did the fish was like a hockey puck with breading, ewwww. i didnt want to send it back as that causes all sorts of hold up and stuff, but i cant eat this, nor am i paying 14+ for something this crappy. so i flagged down the waitress (who was busy or not there, but i let that go in lieu of getting fed properly) and requested a send back and a cheeseburger in its place, no problem, one CB on the fly, sweet potato fries on the side (which were good in all) so there you go. bad food made right, however, the whole casual dinning experience took way too long for the whole dealio. they changed some things about the place. one being good, the cornbread opener, and some bad, the fish they used (eww) and well, im not happy for sure. will we go back now? maybe? im not in a rush. read more

10 cent wings on Sunday and Monday nights says it all. Generally speaking the wings are fabulous. I have been there a couple times when they were sub par but that is rare. Good place to watch a game. They have tables at each booth in the bar area which is pretty sweet and even though the 10 cent wings are awesome they also have other good food for a slightly higher price. They make really good mixed drinks (like the mudslide and koolaide) and have a pretty decent beer selection. Generally when we leave the bill turns out to be higher than you would think for 10 cent wing night after the drinks, blue cheese and celery (which is extra!), more drinks, and sometimes extra apps. but it is always still a fun scene and good eats. Come early though because it gets packed especially on red sox nights and then you could wait for a table in the bar area for a long time. read more

Based on comments, I looked forward to trying their food especially the burgers. The burgers were cooked to perfection, which was good. However, they did half-assed job on toppings. The breakfast burger came with 2 tiny piece of bacon and the cajun burger lacked toppings. The fries came out cold and small portioned. My burger was very bland and not juicy, but my girlfriends steak tips were pretty good. Waitress never came and checked in on us, and completely messed up the check and tried to bill us for someone else's meal on top of our own. She cancelled the transaction, but the charge did not process for a few days, and when my girlfriend called to ask the owner about it, he seemed to not really care and did not apologize or give us any incentive to go back. I will never go back to this place, and will probably tell others I know to not go there either. read more

This was the perfect venue for our daughter's baptism lunch reception! We had 24 people (15 adults, 9 kids) and the private room could accommodate up to 30 pretty well. It was so easy to work with the restaurant staff to arrange the event. They were willing to let our guests order off the regular menu instead of setting up a special event menu or buffet, so that was a major factor in our decision to have the event there. My BF and I visited this place on a whim - it looked very "New England" from the outside and since we just moved to the area we figured it'd be a great place to try out. And we were right. :] Apparently they have $5 burger nights during the week, and 25 cent wings on some other nights, as well as 1/2 priced appetizers...basically every night that's not a Friday or Saturday there's some kind of deal. Since we came in on a Friday, there were no deals...but we did see something on the beer menu that caught our eye. It was 4, 5oz beer samplers with a burger for $10. Eff yeah! You could choose any beers off the menu to try, and they came in a cute little wooden holder. Some of the beers even had dressings on them like blueberries in the blueberry beer, or a sugar/cinnamon rim for the pumpkin ale. The burger wasn't anything to write home about, but it was decent and the fries came out fresh so no complaints here. $20 bucks for two burgers and the equivalent of 3 beers is pretty awesome to me! read more

Great Atmosphere whether one is dining in or out for a drink. Good mix of locals and area college kids makes for a fun atmosphere for all. The dining room is seperate from the bar and is a good area to dine with friends or family (good for children) while the bar has a nice selection of beer to choose from. Pitcher specials, 10 cent wings and half price app nights are all facets which make Brewers a place to keep going back for more. Started out with buffalo chicken spinach dip as always. Enjoyed the app over some drinks - I got a strawberry margarita and my boyfriend got a beer browser. For meals I got a grilled chicken and avocado sandwich and he got a crispy chicken sandwich. The waitress was great and even gave us more chips for our buffalo chicken dip. Lovely experience. John Brewer's is a solid choice for bar food in the Waltham area. I love their buffalo chicken dip, nachos, and boneless wings. The appetizers are where they really excel, but I some of their entrees are pretty good too. They also have complimentary corn bread which they serve in the dining room area. Food is average but I don't go anymore. I caught them on several days with backdoor open in hot weather and garbage barrels with garbage (and flies, ..) right at the door - no screen. I wondered what else might be going directly into the kitchen besides flies with a fully open door. Maybe owner should install a better ventilation or AC for kitchen workers so they do not have to open door for air? Quite a selection of cocktails!!! Food and service has been excellent. They have quality dishes for lunch and dinner and my wait time has averaged under 5 minutes each time I have visited. I had really high hopes for this tavern. As a person that suffers from Celiac's, any restaurant that caters to the gluten free community is high on my "must visit" list. So a friend of mine and I went to check it out Saturday night. I love me some chicken wings but it's not very often I get to order them from a restaurant. Needless to say, I was ridiculously excited to order wings. The first red flag was when our server came back and told me that the bone-in wings were not gluten free, only the boneless ones could be made to order. Disappointed but still gung-ho to enjoy the experience, we went for the boneless. When the food came out, I received a plate of marinated chicken breasts covered in buffalo wing sauce. This...this was not cool. It was so beyond cool that here I am Monday afternoon still severely pissed off that I ordered boneless wings and received marinated chicken breast in sauce. Who the bloody F%^& does this?! Had the wings been properly presented and prepared, I wouldn't have minded the dingy atmosphere, the country music on repeat (on a Saturday?! really?!), and the overall dead beat ambiance for a bar on a Saturday night. But given the poor excuse of food that we were served I will not be returning and I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Great food ruined by horrendous service. We went there on a Monday which is their wing day. John Brewers has great American pub food so I was excited to go! They sat my table of 6 in the main dining area which was great. We ordered some beers and they didn't have them anymore, not a big deal because they have a wide selection of brews on tap. What blew my mind is when we ordered wings they said we couldn't take advantage of the deal unless we were seated literally like two tables away. First and foremost, Why does the location of my ass determine whether or not I can enjoy your product?! That makes literal no sense. A dumb rule made just to frustrate your customer and ultimately lose you business. Second, if you know it's wing night and you have this dreadful idiotic rule, why wouldn't your hostess or host or waiter or waitress say something like "oh I see you are here on a Monday, it's our amazing wing deal day, would you prefer to sit in the only section that allows you to take advantage of this offer?" Don't make stupid rules. Rules only make your customers go on Yelp and leave you sub par ratings for all to see. They also lose you money. You had a table of 6 ready to buy an incredible amount of wings, but lost the sale because my tushy wasn't in the specific geolocation that you erroneously made up. Bummer because I love John Brewers Mac and cheese burger, but I'm not going to go to an establishment that makes rules that inhibit the customer experience. read more

This is my second favorite place to eat out. The food is great, however the service is better. I came around June time, and one server, I believe her name was Reni, was the best service I have ever had. Being a Fluid Binary Agenital Z-125, it was nice to see a server who did not judge me for my looks or appearance. I love this place. I've been coming here since it opened. WING nites are the best get some honey buff and a 24oz beer and your all set. The bar has alot of tv's so your never far from the action. Some weekends there are bands playing. I lover their burgers and steak tips and my kids can't get enough of the chicken quesadilla. LIttle secret if your down there order the buffalo chicken spinach dip. Its not on the menu but man it is awesome. Sure it's a chain, but "Brewers" in Waltham is a quality joint. The waiters and waitresses really keep an eye on you and are mistake free. I like JBT because you can watch the game on a big screen and order a 25 oz beer or an assortment of beers in tasting glasses. Get the chicken pot pie or the thanksgiving dinner (year round) and you won't be disappointed in the quality. It's surprising to hear anyone has had a bad experience here because (as someone who has been over 20 times) consistency is their middle name. Tons of parking spots, outside seating for the warmer months, big crowd on game day, surf the internet on their computer in the entrance if there's a wait, cool vintage map of Waltham on the wall. read more

The bar room can get busy, but I like the ambiance and there are tvs everywhere to catch up on the latest news / sports. We've only been here once, and we do plan to return. I'm kind of on the fence between three stars (A-OK) and four stars (Yay! I'm a fan!), so I'm starting with three and will raise it to four if we have additional good experiences there. The meal started off poorly, but ended excellently. Here's the story: Started with a so-called "Key Lime" martini that tasted (and looked) more like Midori than lime. Nothing on the rim, either (would have hoped for graham crackers). None of the listed ingredients would have made it that particular shade of green - that's another reason I suspected Midori. It was too sweet and not lime-y enough. I was saying as much to my sweetie (the Meat-Eater) when it seemed we were alone. But a couple moments later, as if by magic, a beautiful young woman appeared beside the table, asking "How do you like your drink?" .... hmm. Well, I wasn't even really going to say anything, probably, but since she was there asking and all, I said, "Well, um... oh dear, you must have heard me talking about it... " and explained my little analysis about lime vs. Midori. She was agreeable about it, took it away, brought me something else, and took it off the bill. So that was cool. I don't know who she was, but she wasn't our waiter. I think of her as the Cocktail Goddess who magically appears when I dislike a cocktail. I can only dream that she doesn't even work for John Brewer's Tavern, that she's a supernatural being, and that wherever I go for the rest of my life, the lovely Cocktail Goddess will magically appear to solve my cocktail problems. The meal itself was fine. But what stands out in my mind is the apple crisp we had for dessert. WHOA was that the best apple crisp EVER. BUT - a word to the wise - I asked specifically when I ordered it, "If this is normally microwaved, can you please heat it in the oven instead? I don't mind if it takes longer." And later when I was raving about how it was actually CRISP on the top (the way an apple CRISP should be) the waiter suggested that this is because I had asked for it to be heated in the oven. Well, I don't consider anything to be "food" after it's come out of a microwave, and when I see the word "warmed" on a menu, it's a red flag that it might be nuked. So that's why I asked. But if you like apple crisp - the Real Deal - go to John Brewer's Tavern and get it, but make sure you ask them to heat it in the oven. In fact, if anyone from the restaurant is reading this - I urge you to just start heating it in the oven as a matter of course. It makes all the difference... I've been to this place about 100 times. Big draft beers, solid pub food, and booth tv's showing NFL Ticket on sunday's is the way to go. They have the best boneless buffalo wings and blue cheese sauce in the Boston metro area. Location is great and there is ample parking. UPDATE: The last two times I went, the food was very mediocre. They may have changed purveyors as of late. The french fries were different and the chicken was really dry and bland. I'm gonna go back again in a few weeks to see if its still the case. UPDATE: Have been back twice since and food seemed back to normal. Must have just been a bad night with bad food stock. UPDATE: Went again and the food was once again less than mediocre. Place has gone way down hill over the last 2 years. I used to love this place, now its just "not bad". read more

A cool place with great food and plenty of good drinks to choose from. There is indoor and outdoor seating, as well as free cornbread for the table (which I am a huge fan of). I had a turkey burger and my partner had a steak. It was just the right amount of food at a good price and we both cleared our plates. I used to be a HUGE fan of this place... but they just doubled their special wing prices to .50 per... and charge extra for blue cheese (1.00). also, their mixed drinks are pretty weak for the price. Not in a rush to come back. read more
