I love a good burger and John's burger didn't disappoint. Perfect size, a good, juicy patty, and all the fixings. The cafe is the perfect place to meet for lunch or brunch and catch up. It's definitely got the neighborhood diner feel. John was there when we went and was very nice. He's proud of his burger and I know why! read more

Secret item on the menu. Roast Beef sandwich. Do yourself a favor GET IT! Think mom's oven cooked falling apart roast beef, but flat grilled for a minute, placed on a hoagie bun with fresh lettuce, tomato's and Mayo. One of the best sandwiches in town!!!! Didn't used to be a secret at the old location when the second largest thing on the sign beside John's was Roast Beef Sandwich. read more

I have lived in Dallas all my life except for 5 1/2 years high 'atop the caprock in Lubbock. John's Cafe, in no uncertain terms, is the greatest breakfast and lunch dive in Dallas & arguably in the nation. In business since 1972 or '73 John and his family have operated this business. The best Migas, burgers, and omelette's you will have the pleasure of eating. Homemade biscuits & gravy? Yep, the best. Pancakes? Have never eaten any better than hot cakes from John's. John's cafe reminds me of an old school, Mid-West, mom and pop, family ran joint serving up Christmas morning with no school for a week breakfast. The has browns? Real potatoes. The biscuits? I loved this place! I was visiting Dallas to see friends and my friends took me here. I loved the small, cozy place. They have a great variety of foods - from traditional breakfast foods to Gyros to Mexican food. I ordered breakfast. The owner was working the register/taking orders when we stopped in. He's very personable and friendly. We ordered the breakfast special; one with bacon and toast and the other with sausage and biscuits. Wow. Incredible. We are for sure coming back when we're in town next. read more

I show up hungover 90% of the time, lady at the front doesn't take any crap will give it to you straight forward she really makes me think about my life decisions from the prior night (in a good way) and makes me wanna be a better person. The customer service was so great here! You order at the counter and then sit down and they bring your food out. All the employees were so nice and helpful. I got the country fried steak and it was AMAZING-its my favorite food and one of the best I've ever had at any restaurant. My spouse and kids also loved their food and the portion sizes were large. 10/10 and I would go back if I ever travel back to Dallas. read more

Great greasy spoon American diner run by a Greek man, like most New York diners. I ordered a gyro omelette, something I had never seen before until I came into John's Cafe. John's Cafe! A Dallas staple! I have been going here for years with my dad for a go to breakfast. Him being from NYC, he misses the diner atmosphere....John's never disappoints! Great food. Great Community atmosphere. And the family-owned! Half the time John the one that takes your order. I love their breakfast! They have a special two eggs two bacon toast hash browns and pancakes it's so good! And if you're really feeling frisky, go for a chicken fried steak! It's pretty serious so be prepared! Breakfast and Lunch are amazing. Club sandwich is always a favorite! We run into people we know every single time we go! It's really about the locals. But the locals are really nice! My husband was in line (1 more person ahead of him) and 2 other tables. We have our two young children with us. So I grab a table and the one cleaning table says "you can't sit here. You need to order your food first" I proceed to tell him and point my husband is up next to order I just need to sit with my children because all of us waiting in line is absurd. He still said "no not until you order first" see ya later...we left right when we were about to order because who says that?!?!? Meanwhile another lady (who they were several people behind the line) sat with her kids and wasn't told to move or order first. I would give zero stars is possible. Train your servers to be more tactful and polite. read more

Counter service, loud person behind the counter, open view to the kitchen where cooks are working their mojo. Just a basic greasy spoon and there is nothing wrong with that. Sometimes in this world of avocado toast, caramel lattes and artisan breads, you need to take a break and hit up a place that serves hash browns golden brown and crispy, over easy eggs that are so relaxed they just rest on your plate. John's is just that type of place. Old fashioned, with the yellowing menu and low food specials. 2 eggs, choice of bacon, sausage or game, hash browns and toast or biscuit. $7.75. Only 4 stars because my hash browns where greasy but not crispy enough. If you know hash browns you know what I mean. read more

John's used to be the go to place for breakfast and lunch in our neighborhood but it's sadly gone downhill. John was always cranky but it was just part of the charm. Lately though, he's just been downright rude which I could deal with if the quality of the food was the same but unfortunately it has also declined. I'm gutted because I loved going there. I think it's time for him to retire. read more

Although we arrived after sales office hours, Liz at the front desk was exceptionally kind. She walked us through the restaurants commonly used for private events, explained the renovation timeline, and invited us to take our time exploring before returning to the front desk to view a standard guest room. Unfortunately, our experience changed when another employee, who later identified himself as Clayton, a manager, stepped in. It appeared he had been listening to our conversation but had not introduced himself. He abruptly informed us that we would not be able to view a room. We explained that our event coordinator was already working with the sales manager regarding room blocks and pricing, and that we were simply trying to ensure we felt confident recommending the hotel to our family and friends. Despite understanding the situation, he remained unwilling to accommodate the request. His only suggestion was that we purchase a room if we wanted to see one. For us, this interaction spoke volumes. Hospitality isn't just about beautiful rooms--it's about making potential guests feel welcomed and valued. If this was the experience we received as prospective clients considering multiple wedding events and dozens of room nights, it gave us pause about what our guests might experience. As a result, we will likely to move our room block, welcome dinner, Saturday event, and Sunday brunch where we're met with warmth, flexibility, and genuine hospitality from the moment we arrive. The Joule is undeniably a beautiful property, but customer service plays a major role in our decision-making. Really like that they give you the option of adding noodles for an additional fee because we had a lot of dipping broth left and just got some more noodles to go with it! Service was warm and the ambience was super cute. Would definitely come back for ramen and to try some of the other options. Hoping the construction situation in Deep Ellum becomes less untenable soon!

You won't go wrong with some Pontchartrain sauce or any appetizer. My wife just loves cheese sticks everywhere we go and these things were huge. We had to take them home. It's crazy. Please stop and these guys deserve a tip and you deserve some good food.

On top of that, the table we were seated at was extremely small and could barely fit all of the food we ordered, so everything felt cramped. Our waiter was also barely around, making it difficult to get refills or ask for anything we needed. The food itself was still good, which is why I'm giving it three stars, but between the uncomfortable seating, tiny table, and lack of attentive service, it wasn't a very pleasant dining experience overall.

Food is very good. The lady that "works" the front counter is very rude on the phone. I thought she was just rude and short because she was very busy. But, upon showing up she was just as rude in person as she was on the phone. A very old lady and her husband asked the lady if it would take long to cook 2 burgers and she told them with attitude " I don't know. We are busy, have a seat and we will see" All of this would've easily been forgotten about had she not messed up my order, or at least double checked it while I was there. I find it hard pressed to ever return to Johns Cafe if this is the customer service expected. read more

My family and I came in on a busy Saturday morning. It was our very first time coming. The host/cashier was very accommodating in assuring the wait for a seat wouldn't be long and she was super patient in assisting us with our orders. I ordered the Philly Cheesecake omelette and it was heavenly. I don't even care for mushrooms and this was so good that I ate every single mushroom in this omelette. This is quite possibly the best mom and pop diner that I have eaten at in the Dallas area. The burgers are the best I ever had, not too greasy, and definately not dry. The fry's are great, they use the ones that have some heft to them. Their open hot beef is to die for, that gravy they put on top just makes you want to keep on eating but you get so full that its impossible, I also love the beef because its not filled with fat. This is not a place you would drive by and say oh, let's eat there. We looked up on yelp & it had great rating. As we pulled up we questioned, but walked in and the place was packed. There were four of us for breakfast and we all ordered different items. We were happy with all. You order at counter & they bring food to the table. You refill your drinks. I would recommend. I was driving to work, and out of the corner 9f my eye I spotted this little diner in a shopping strip, and decided to try it out. I absolutely loved this place from the second I walked in.
