Went there a few days ago because we were tired of all the other places. I ordered the 1/3 pound cheeseburger combo and my friend ordered the club sandwich. To say we were disappointed would be a gross understatement; when at the register giving our order, the lady looked less than thrilled to be there. When the food arrived, they forgot my ranch dressing for the fries and I had to put salt and pepper on the burger for it to have any taste at all. My friend said the same thing about her club sandwich, which had a ton of lettuce and very little meat or cheese. Was really intrigued by the sign in front saying "Voted Best Breakfast Burrito in Town" I ordered my wife Chorizo and Sausage for me. The size of the burritos was average, good soft tortillas. Our opinion was this was Not the Best in town by far. Very dry, way to much hash browns ( used as a filler ) average ingredients. Nothing Special or Great about it. I think PePes should have that sign posted in front but saying "Better than Best". Now the burgers etc I watched being made, definitely going back for a try. read more

So many memories! I have been a customer since the very first day this restaurant opened. It has become a home for many of the neighbors that live in that area. The service is very friendly and very attentive. Since day one. I had moved away, and I go back there when I have business in the area. Today I went in and had an old faithful, my California style, pastrami, and fries. Consistency is what keeps customers coming back. I walked in and was greeted right away with a "Hi. How are you today? by both employees. I recognize the cook from the very beginning of John's first days in Brea the restaurant looks the same. It's very clean and organized. And my pastrami was the same as it was since the day I first had one it's been nearly 20+ years and the restaurant thrives. I texted a photo to my family and needless to say they were all very jealous. If you are in the area and want to visit one of the local hangouts you need to try this place. The experience I have had going to John's place has been a real delight the food every time I have been has been absolutely delicious. Their breakfast burritos are filled with hash browns, eggs, cheese, and your choice of bacon sausage or ham or even all three I believe they charge extra for all three but it's definitely delicious it's seasoned to perfection. The French toast is perfectly cooked and not too eggy. The only downside on the French toast is the price it's 9.45$ plus tax for just four slices when other places you get six slices. As for the hash browns you have to buy them separately. Their club sandwich was definitely a must try it taste fresh and the sandwich meat taste not cheap and they give you a good amount in each layer of the sandwich. There bacon Avocado cheese burger was good the meat was not over cooked and the bacon was not dry. The avocado tasted fresh not old. The burger was over all good but kind of on the pricey side compared to other places. As for the ambiance it's definitely a nice quiet diner very clean and kept up. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to have a nice and quiet and delicious breakfast. read more

I have driven by John's Place dozens of times and finally stopped in tonight. I had a Burger, Onion Rings and Chocolate Cake. Compared to most Diner-type restaurants the Burger was twice as thick, juicy and flavorful. It is the best Burger in it's class! I ordered the Onion Rings well done (I like them a little browner than usual) and they were delicious! Crispy, Light, with the most flavorful batter coating ever. I will go back just for these. On the way in I looked at the Dessert Case. There was Cheesecake, Chocolate Cake, Pumpkin Pound Cake, Muffins and more. Everything looked amazing and I ordered a piece of the Chocolate Cake. The Chocolate Cake was incredible! Rich, Fudgy and Fresh! At most restaurants like this desserts are an afterthought and are usually awful. I can't believe how great this Chocolate Cake tasted. It is better than the Cheesecake Factory's Chocolate Cakes. I can't wait to try their other Desserts and their Shakes. Excellent Service and Ambience. Some friends invited to have breakfast after church. I really like that they played Christian music over their speakers but that was as far as it went. My buddy ordered for himself and his wife before I ordered for me and my wife. Our food came before theirs. But way, way before theirs. In orderes scrambled eggs and got over easy (with an eyelash - kinda' gross). I'm not judging them on this. Let's be realistic, it happens everywhere. Not going to be a diva over common inconveniences. What ruined it for me was their attitudes. My brought to our server's attention that they still hadn't received their food and she just snickered. After 10-15 (& seeing others who came in after us get their food) my buddy went up to the counter to bring it to their attention. They were pretty short but assured him it was coming soon. 15 minutes later, he went back up again. The woman behind the counter (ponytail, Sunday, October 1 breakfast time) was inexcusably rude to him. She was a bit hostile in her response. "We're backed up. I don't know what to tell you. I can either give you your money back or you can wait!" We were seated at the furthest area from the counter and I heard that loud and clear. Ma'am, maybe you were just having a bad morning and if so, I'm sorry. But that's no way to deal with stressful issues and that is especially no way to talk AT your customers. First time going. Took my son here today food was great, service excellent. Only thing it was my first time and I was a little confused. You order and pay then they take the food all the ladies where awesome but in the end I only had my debit on me and didn't know what to do cause I wanted to tip so I sat there and wanted to explain to one of them but then god anxiety and left. I so wanted to tip them smh. Was even gonna see if I can zelle them the tip now I'm embarrassed to go back. I've tried to be understanding with this place but they continue to be awful. I called on Sunday morning for a phone order which a waitress picked up and asked that I be placed on hold. I said yes and proceeded to wait. Six full minutes and nothing. Then I start hearing their other phone go off and their orders are being taken. I couldn't believe that I'm sitting there listening to this which then the phone I was on started to beep. A waitress in the area picked up the phone and hung up. I called back asking why I didn't get my order in to which the waitress (different waitress), said "I heard the phone beep and thought nobody was on". She then said "but I'll take your order". John's place...has nice "CURB APPEAL " and initially, that is what drew us in. A nice patio eating area at the door, with an unexpected Salad Bar, made it all the more enticing. Is it a "greasy spoon"...well maybe, but if it is, it would be categorically the NICEST and CLEANEST" one I've had the pleasure of eating in! We went in for Breakfast and having never eaten here before, we were all pleasantly surprised. As I walked in, I DID feel as if all the patrons already seated, knew each other and in fact, recognized that we were "newbies" in a place where "everybody (normally) knows your name". Our order was taken w/a smile (NICE), and our food was brought to our table promptly. We had the normal "traditional" type of breakfast faire (Eggs, Sausages, Bacon, Hash Browns and Toast), which was all served hot , with a more than acceptable presentation (see pics). I bucked the crowd and ordered a Pastrami Sandwich (Ya...I took a BITE or TWO, before I took the pic, AND I'm not apologizing for it!) which I was EXTREMELY happy with. The prices were low, so the "value" factor is a definite YES! All in all...it's not HEUTE CUSINE, but if you're in the Brea neighborhood and in the mood for an ABOVE AVERAGE BREAKFAST...in this Yelper's humble opinion, John's Place has definitely earned this "highly recommend" 4 Star review. read more

Their size was immense; we could have easily split one. They were both unfortunately tasteless, almost like they forgot to season the ingredients. And the salsa wasn't great either. You'd be much better off going to Molca Salsa 5 minutes away and getting a more delicious breakfast burrito and salsa, not to mention while saving a few bucks. read more

Chicken was big and veggies tasted fresh, when not eating bread it's awesome to get full off the veg.Also a cheeseburger for my partner was great. Look- I like this place. BUT- their POS system doesn't allow room for tipping so PLEASE BRING SOME CASH TOO. Unless the owner is actually paying all their employees a livable wage, you can not make it difficult for a customer to help out those employees. They have a sign that says "Best Breakfast Burrito" and honestly.... We ordered two breakfast burritos, coffee and orange juice. The sign brought us in and didn't disappoint. I've had burritos that are really soggy and oily, or have the eggs made out of the egg product that comes in the carton. This was all fresh and delicious!!! What a nice place to eat at John's! A local mom-pop diner with a few others located I stumbled upon this place driving toward home. Based on some reviews ordered the breakfast burrito and I was pleasantly surprised. The burrito is a decent size, enough to make you feel full but not the food coma inducing type. The bacon is nice and crispy, and the eggs are pretty fluffy. The hash brown here is a bit interesting. They are not crispy yet they are not soft and mushy. It's this happy middle that actually make it distinct from other burritos I have tried. A huge plus is the pico de Gallo that is in the burrito. The salsa is made from scratch and has a decent kick with freshness that makes the burrito go down tastier. I was a big fan and actually asked for extra which they provide at no charge. The French fries are crispy and slightly more salty which I like. A pet peeve of mine are soft, bland, mushy French fries, but fortunately this was not the case. The chili burger was a good size with good flavor. But for me the burrito was what really hit the spot. Service was standard and friendly. I'm happy to find my new go to breakfast burrito place near my place. Nice! read more

Been a pretty regular customer of John's Place since it's grand opening many, many years ago. Over the past several years it has been going down hill. The food is not as good, it's very expensive for what you get, and the staff is borderline rude. Went in for breakfast today and the staff seemed annoyed that we were there.
