Josephine House is located in a small neighborhood right outside downtown Austin. Our experience was nothing but great for us. Both their drink menu and wine list are extensive and there are a lot of options to choose from. Their food menu was the perfect size offering an array of dishes for all different choice spectrums. This place is also great if you are not that hungry and want something small as their charcuterie board is very palatable and pair it with their wine list. I would highly recommend to anyone save room for their deserts as they are top notch specifically their homemade ice cream and cheese cake. The atmosphere here was so cute for a brunch. They were able to accommodate for a party of 12. We had to sit outside, with umbrella coverage, but it was super hot. Just know that if u volunteer to sit outside u will not have fans. The food was pretty good, but all in all it was extremely expensive. Because of this, I would not go back. I don't believe what I ordered (my fault I guess) was worth what I paid for. My server was not friendly and ruined the vibe. My friend suggested this place. I knew it was tiny, in an area with parking headaches, and a precious little menu. I was afraid it would be one of those bougie ladies-who-lunch places that charge a fortune to give you a little plate of frou-frou. Okay, it was pretty full of ladies lunching, with a few token males here and there. And there were some little plates, including the dreaded Avocado Toast. But items on the brunch menu, at least our entrees, were substantial and very tasty. As for the bill, I'll just say I was glad to be lunching with a check grabber, especially after we had a few cocktails . But my burger was perfectly cooked, just the right size, and accompanied by a mount of fries that even I, with my friend's help, couldn't finish. Neither of us was crazy about the salted caramel brownie. It tasted weird, and was boxed up to be offered to the brownie fiend at home. I had an amazing date night here! We sat inside, at a two-person table by a lovely window. For a Saturday it wasn't too loud even though it was full. The cocktails were absolutely delicious, as was the food! However, my highlight of the dining experience was our perfect server Amanda! She was able to make suggestions from drinks, to food, to dessert, all of which were excellent. Amanda was the perfect balance of attentive and giving us space for our date. We really enjoyed our visit to Josephine's. As the name implies you are dining in a home setting. There is a beautiful garden and outdoor seating on the patio. WE sat inside and had a nice view of the garden and patio. Our Apps included their roasted beets & feta with goat's milk feta, pickled apple, lemon oil, dill pollen. It reads and sounds peculiar but it works. My local lettuce salad was so fresh I could have sworn that all the ingredients were just plucked from their garden. Plus 1 ordered the Berkshire pork chop schnitzel. I did get to try a healthy portion as the serving size is quite large. It brought back memories of my visits to Germany. My seared New York strip steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare. I also received a healthy portion of fries. My only nit I was expecting a melt-in-your-mouth steak but alas this steak was not even close. The cottage setting is really quaint, the service is outstanding, and remove my nit and this was a strong 4-star dining experience. Pro tip: Do not reserve on Open Table! Getting into this place when you don't have a reservation is like a crap shoot, might work, might not, but there will probably be a hefty wait. Your first impression of any restaurant is the hostess, and boy was she rude. We asked to be seated outside, and she came us the meanest look. We were scared to approach her again when we saw that outside seating had indeed opened up. The menu is also extremely limited. I really wasn't feeling avocado toast that day, but it was the only thing that sounded remotely appetizing. I did appreciate the fact that the waiter was kind enough to request our blueberry pancakes be split up into two plates. Parking is extremely limited. On Monday nights, they have a steak dinner, which is comprised of a three course meal starting with an appetizer of salad or soup followed by your choice of steak and then dessert. During the course of the first two meals wine flows freely. And you can choose between white, red, or rosé. It is a relatively small restaurant with seating for maybe 20 to 25 guests. So reservations are highly recommended. I've got to say, this was a very good meal and a great experience. The wait staff is very attentive to their guests and the atmosphere is cozy and intimate. I think Josephine House was one of the first nice restaurants that caught my eye before moving here, but I never visited. Fast forward a few years, and my boyfriend picked this spot to surprise me for our anniversary dinner. He said he hoped I'd like it, but he knows me well if he picked something that's been on my mind this long! The dinner was delicious! I opted for a simple salad and soup, but I'm glad I did, because that left me room for dessert, and that was a show-stopper! It was billed as a chocolate torte, but it incorporated a variety of textures and balance of flavors, with citrus and pistachios. Creamy, smooth, crunchy, sweet and savory. So good! It's a 3 course meal and if memory derves I went for the chicken liver mouse, NY Strip, and stinky cheese for dessert--all with a house red table wine. There were other options, but this was great. It makes me so sad to write this review. Josephine House has been a place I've grown up visiting, celebrated holidays and family milestones, and recommended to countless friends. I brought a close friend visiting from out of town to enjoy Steak & Frites night -- something I've looked forward to many times as a regular Monday night guest. The evening started off well with our server, Stevie, who was attentive and friendly. We genuinely enjoyed her service through most of the meal. During dessert, we asked if we could order one final glass of wine before wrapping up. When we asked this, Stevie's entire demeanor shifted -- she became super annoyed and frustrated that we asked. We immediately offered to cancel the order if it was an inconvenience, but she responded by rolling her eyes at our faces, audibly huffing, and walking away abruptly without a response. Moments later she returned, poured a splash of wine without a word, and then we watched as she walked over to the manager, hostesses, and other waiters/waitresses one-by-one, obviously gesturing and pointing toward us and speaking about us in plain view. This left both of us feeling extremely uncomfortable and unwelcome. At a restaurant of this caliber -- especially one I've held in such high regard for years -- I never expected to be treated this way. We were polite and appreciative throughout the night, which made the sudden hostility even more bewildering. What added to the disappointment was the lack of any acknowledgment or follow-up from the manager, who saw this unfold but made no effort to check in or address what happened, especially after we paid over $200 for the night. I don't think I'll be returning after this and do not recommend coming here. At least ask to be served by anyone but the server Stevie. read more

My son brought us to Josephine's house. Very cool. It's actually a house and each room has their own sets of tables. Even outdoors there is different groupings of tables. Very unique. Very interesting and giving its self this special vibe and ambiance. Only thing is there is limited parking lot but there is street parking which is fairly good. We got a table indoors and our server greeted us right away. Got our drinks order going. I got the Huveous Rancheros with chicken and avocado. It's literally a tostada smothered with so much goodness. The white meat chicken and avocado really made it a really big brunch. Really good. Loved it. On top of that I got the cherry almond scone. I'm a sucker for anything cherry so I got it. Little worried it was going to be really dry. It this scone was perfect. Not to dry yet very good. Loved it and would recommend both. My wife and son got the English muffin breakfast sandwich which comes with a side salad. Had a bit and it was so good too. Both of them loved that sandwich. Very good and very filling. They also got the banana bread. Really good really moist. Loved it too. Good choices. Our server was very nice and always watched over us. Making sure we're okay. Very friendly too. So great food. They were very unaccommodating. And I love connecting with people and keeping the peace but they insisted on making this the worst possible experience. Plus, we love being inside the quaint house or out on their expanded back patio area. On our last visit we enjoyed the savory Alsatian Tart (with eggs, leeks, cheese) and the fluffy and delicious Lemon Ricotta Pancakes topped with blueberries and strawberry slices, with a side of the house-made seasoned chicken sausage. Everything was excellent and the portions are generous. The Revolver (bourbon cocktail) and the Endless Summer (gin cocktail) were fabulous! Disappointed with my experience at Josephine House. Have been here before and enjoyed the food, but my most recent visit was no fun. I informed the server of my allergies and ordered the rice bowl. When my food arrived, I asked for confirmation and reminded them of my allergy. The server replied that it was good to go/ no issues. I had a horrible allergic reaction after my meal. I also called the restaurant to ask to speak with a manager, with no response. I'm surprised about the 3.5-star cumulative rating. My friend and I had a great experience. We were walk-ins for Saturday brunch around 10:45. There was a party who did not make their reservation at 10:30, so we may have just gotten lucky. Of note we were wearing work out clothes but most people were wearing dressy casual for brunch. Our server was so courteous and efficient. We shared the Burrata and Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and liked both. The burrata and summer melons was refreshing and the pancakes were hearty but not too sweet or heavy. The cucumber basil spritzer was refreshing as well. Such a cute place to take your girls out for brunch. The outdoor dining space has nice of a vibe as it is inside. I was worried about the Texas heat so I chose to make a reservation inside, and I'm so glad I did for the AC. They have fresh bread and pastries for purchase ranging from $4-$9. And a large selection of drinks and beverages. Their drip coffee is nice. Personally, the food this time around did not WOW me, but I will say each ingredient in the Rice Bowl was very fresh! Out of 4 dishes I've tried since my first visit i think my favorite by far is still the lemon ricotta pancakes here. If I come back next time I would go for them again.
