We made a reservation ahead of time for a large group from our company (25 people) and they were very accommodating. We were too large for their private room but they staked out a section of the main dining area and we sat at different tables. The atmosphere is very decorative, intimate, and not overly bright. The servers and waitstaff were very attentive, regularly checking in on us without being obtrusive, while filling our cups and removing dirty dishes. The food was incredible. Our table got the duck fat fries, bone marrow, and a few other appetizers, which were all awesome. For my entree I got the buffalo ribeye which was very flavorful and well seasoned. Their food menu isn't massive but I prefer that. Everything they did offer was very unique. Our table got different entrees and we shared it, and everyone loved their meals. This place was recommended by an amazing waiter from the previous night restaurant. We had a reservation at Martin's restaurant , but we were looking for a warm soup for my Mom, and they only had cold green pea soup, saying that they only offer hot soup from October to March, and since we were in the Summer (it was May, Mothers Day Weekend), they wouldn't have warm soup any more. And so we left and tried this amazing place. The first thing we asked at JCP, was for a warm soup, and the waitress immediately offered a hot water with lemon for my Mom to warm up. Right there I was amazed how thoughtful and kind she treated my Mom. From there on, every dish we ate was amazing. The waitress was very knowledgeable of the dishes she offered, knew what ingredients and how they were cooked and put together. We ended up having a delicious appetizer, with Polenta and Gorgonzola, my Mom had her delicious Pozole, my husband had a Thai Duck and I a fresh crispy arugula salad with nuts and pears, and to finish the day, an unforgettable pudding with caramel. Nothing was left in any of our plates. Simply amazing experience from the beginning to the end... and I forgot to mention we got there at 8:45 pm... late, but still, they treated us as if we were the first customers arriving that day. read more

This lovely, warm, authentic Santa Fe spot was so inviting. We were weary from the day and I was hoping to dig in to a great (vegetarian) meal. Our service was outstanding and we ordered: Polenta (Incredible! Would return just for this dish!) Lamb Burger (Very good) Cast Iron Cauliflower (This fell short for me, especially the roasted red cabbage)...It was cold within a minute and although the mix of flavors was interesting, it wasn't interesting enough for me to eat more than half of this small serving. We had an incredible dinner at Joseph's when we dined here for the first time last night. Our friends had been there a couple nights earlier and raved about it, so we were excited to try it ourselves for our final dinner in Santa Fe. First of all, the hostess/manager woman was SO amazingly kind about accommodating our daughter in her stroller and gave us a cozy and quiet table in the back corner. Our waitress, while a bit flighty, was also very nice and attended to us well enough. We started with the half portion of bone marrow, which was delicious, but tasted like most bone marrow dishes that are usually done well. The ratattouille salad was without a doubt one of the best plates of food that we have had all year. The flavors were oxymoronically subtle and explosive at the same time, and there was so much amazing variance in textures and colors. Absolutely the best dish of the night and the one that we recommend anybody else to get. We split the rabbit bolognese lasagne (which we had been highly anticipating because we love rabbit and a good bolognese but had never had them together before), but it fell a bit flat. Of course lasagne can't be made to order, but this was completely dry, and of course eyebrows shoot up when the server tells you that the plate is "very, very, very, very hot." It was good, but sadly not as good as it could have been. Things fell apart slightly at dessert as well. The tres leches cake was nicely done, but didn't really work with the meringue, which certainly had zero strawberry flavor (perhaps because it was drowned out by the blackberry sauce?). The sorbet trio was...pretty bad. Way too herbaceous, and while the consistency was great on the lemon thyme, the other two kept crumbling apart. These critiques are honest but mostly minor because we left completely happy and felt as though we had a delicious meal. We're definitely excited to come back the next time that we're in town. read more

My wife and I drove 11 hours from central Texas to Santa Fe on an ill-advised winter road trip, and Joseph's was the first place we stopped in Santa Fe after dropping off our bags. We couldn't have found a more welcoming, warm environment for a chilly Friday evening. Our only mistake was coming here first: Joseph's sets a high bar for quality, ambiance, and service. Our servers were quick without feeling cold and receptive without being officious. They gave great advice (especially for this vegetarian reviewer) and checked in only after the meal was concluded. We ordered the ratatouille to start, and a chicken remoulade and vegetable enchiladas for the main dishes. Recognizing that this sounds absurd at a restaurant where duck is on the menu, I cannot say enough about the enchiladas, a reconstructed, modernized version of a southwestern staple. We capped off the meal with a warm, rich chocolate cake and a cup of "Sing Your Song" tea (an infusion of ginger and a host of spices perfect for an after-meal drink). What a remarkable find. Cancel your other plans and make a reservation here. You won't regret it. Especially if you order the enchiladas. read more

Best food we have had in our week in Santa Fe. I am usually not a fan of duck but it was phenomenal here. Service was top notch.

I can't see what dish was the best, because it would be a 3 way tie between the duck fat fries, lamb tartare, and pork belly. If you like duck, you'll love this place. Even if you don't, you'll still like it. The bread, the on-tap Root Beer, and especially the butterscotch pudding dessert were fantastic. And the staff were exceedingly friendly. Not only did they let our dog Steve join us on the patio, they brought him water, and also charged my wife's iPhone that had 0% left. Best restaurant of our trip. read more

Food was a mixed bag. The duck fat fries are great. The chicken liver mousse texture was good but lacked any seasoning and the mustard could not cover. The Pad Thai is an "interpretation" so if you want a little more authentic pad Thai pass this by. It was over sauced and too sweet for our table's tastes. The root vegetable napoleon was wonderful, no complaints there! The cloud cake Devine. The tres leches cake was best left in the back of the house, the texture was grainy/poor and the flavor was meh. Wait staff is well trained but if you aren't ordering drinks the atmosphere gets a little chilly. If I had known my spouse's meal was going to be this disappointing on my birthday we would have gone else where. read more

We had a table for five and I was the only one that showed up on time. They were incredibly accomodating and actually offered to give me the seat before the rest of my party showed up, unusual since it was really busy. To get here you might need to take a Lyft of Uber from the center as it's a bit of a walk, but a really nice one if you choose to do it. read more

Delicious meal and lovely waitress. The waitress was super helpful and knowledgeable regarding my husband's dietary needs (no gluten, no dairy) as well as the wine. Food was delicious! Very fresh oysters to start. Then we shared the rich, flavorful Christmas Stew and the unique, delicious Duck Pad Thai. When we said we wanted to share the waitress kindly suggested the kitchen split the items and we eat in "courses" - stew first, then Pad Thai. Great suggestion! I hate to write an update downgrading from five stars to two (really one and a half), but this place has gone way, way downhill since my original enthusiastic review from a few years ago. This had been one of my favorites in Santa Fe, but the quality of the food at our last several visits, over a period of several months, has been increasingly disappointing. Our last visit (and sad to say, I believe it was indeed our last), I ordered the rabbit lasagna, the same dish I raved about in my original review. What I received was unrecognizable as being the same dish. Instead of the generous portion of hearty, meaty lasagna I was expecting based on my previous experience, I was served an enormous bowl of what looked like German-style red cabbage, with a little dollop, about the size of an Oreo cookie, of unidentifiable whitish goo, presumably a bit of lasagna noodle. Not a molecule of meat to be found anywhere. Almost as a taunt, it seemed, the dish was still garnished with the same oh-so-cute toast "rabbit ears" I remembered from before, except they made no sense because this rabbit had no body (i.e. the lasagna) to speak of. To make matters worse, the side vegetable, which constituted about 98 percent of the contents of the ridiculously oversized bowl, turned out not to be German-style red cabbage, which I love, but similarly prepared radicchio, so intensely bitter as to be all but inedible. I mean it was really horrid. Just awful. Ick.  At least the soup was pretty good, as was the wine, which helped wash the taste out of my mouth. read more

I came in for lunch last September as I was driving around NM and stopped in Santa Fe. Being alone, I sat at the bar. I had a great conversation with the barkeep and a few other friendly staff members who were interested to hear that I was there from DC. The wine offered was fantastic: unexpectedly good, in fact. The food was absolutely at the 4 star mark, but the one small thing I could find for fault was they didn't ask what hotel I was staying at. I didn't realize until I got back but the hotel I was staying in had a discount offer for patron's visiting Joseph's and using it could have saved me a eight dollars and so. I would definitely visit Joseph's again. read more

Joeseph culinary PUB: How often does a restaurant OR anything surpass your expectations. This eatery is wonderful. Chef Joseph understand flavors and combinations. He must taste as he goes, I have no doubt. I rarely even use salt when I am at his restaurant.. The duck confit could make a glass eye cry. The meat dishes are wonderful and consistent BUT his flare for veggies are not to be ignored. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the country and I do a lot of traveling. We've lived in Santa Fe for 20 + years and eat out a lot. I have a few gripes about this establishment. One is that the bartender was unwilling to serve a 1/2 glass of wine (I can't drink more than 1 and 1/2. I left a note for Joseph making a request with my phone number. Either he didn't get my message or doesn't care to respond to regular patrons. The service is so, so. And our one favorite dish the crisply duck has now been taken off the menu. We ordered their vegetarian dishes last night and both of us have downed alka-selzer to combat the nausea. Personally we prefer the special care and appreciation given to regular customers from our new favorite restaurant Georgia. The staff makes a point to remember our names and even what we like to drink. The food is fresh, innovative and not too greasy.They are perfectly happy to pour a 1/2 glass of wine without complaint. Sorry Josephs seems like a dirty kitchen. Oh yeah and the bathrooms were filthy. read more

Ate here last night for my girlfriend's birthday. First of all: wow. We are road tripping across the country and literally came in off the road (called ahead 5 hours for a reservation), and immediately felt like we had walked into a bistro in Paris, except it was Pueblo style. The atmosphere was bright and inviting, and best of all our fresh-off-the-road attire was perfect for the casual environment and decor. Felt right at home. After starting with a stellar Willamette Valley Pinot, we indulged in the cauliflower appetizer, crispy and fantastic, and the savory trifle with lobster panna cotta and foie gras. With the trifle, the chef recommends digging the spoon to the bottom and getting all the layers in one bite...I screwed this up the first bite and didn't get the full effect. But when I hit the bottom of the glass the second time, it was a power punch of flavor. It was one of those dishes that's so perfectly balanced, every ingredient is necessary and leaving just one out ruins it. I'm glad to say I eventually ate it right and loved it. For my main, I had the duck breast medallions. It was an expertly crafted seasonal dish, garnished with pomegranate, autumn rice, crunchy onion and a hint of citrus. All the flavors were powerful and in combination with the meat--perfectly seared, I might add--the dish was amazing. My girlfriend had the cod which was accompanied with olive tapenade and a heavenly sauce. The one caveat with the fish is that it didn't taste 100% fresh. But that probably makes sense given that it was a Sunday. Not holding it against them. Our dessert was the butterscotch with salted caramel pudding. We scarfed it down. It came with fresh-baked orange and chocolate ganache macarons which, if I may be so bold, were better than those from Ladurée in Paris, which sealed the deal for me. Our waiter, Jesse, was friendly and helpful, very responsive and engaging, and took good care of me and my girlfriend on her birthday which we both appreciated after a long day on the road. We had a great experience with the service. I should note--only because I want these guys to be successful and they are well on their way--that despite the food being fantastic, it has some catching up to do in terms of global culinary standards. I would focus on bringing out a distinct personality in each of the dishes, ideally around a central theme or influence, as right now the dishes seem to lack a dominant flavor identity. Had made reservation week in advance but having experience in the industry I know things don't always go as smooth as they should. Our table wasn't ready but a few bar stools opened up and we were pleased as peaches to sit at the bar. While the chef has had multiple restaurants, it's always weary to try a new establishment, especially one that is located in a spot notorious for being cursed. That said, this was a wonderful experience, a fantastic meal and a delightfully energetic environment. Appetizers were great...entrees we had were the lamb curry tagine and the duck confit. I'm excited for the next time I dine there and I anticipate that it will become a regular staple in my routine. This is just the best meal we've had in ages. Rustic fine dining with totally unique and interesting/unique flavor profiles, plus friendly service and a cute location. Ordered: Pork belly - the only bad thing about this was how small the portion was. There was a nugget of just pure porky bliss. I kept saying "This tastes Chinese! This tastes Chinese!" which is my highest compliment. Very delicately crispy on the outside, and just melting on the inside. Subtly seasoned with a little salt and a tiny bit of sweet. There was some veg on the side, but I don't remember it bc the meat was perfection. Cauliflower in cast iron - Very yummy. So many different flavor profiles combined, I couldn't categorize it exactly but the menu says: mustard seed, creme fraiche crust, white beans, anchovies, fried capers, and green dust. Very mysterious, that green dust. You'd think it would taste Mediterranean... but it didn't exactly. It did taste blissful, even standing up to that pork. For our entree we both ordered: BISON RIBEYE. If this is on the menu, I highly recommend that you order this. My dude and I don't get much game out in the Bay Area. We live in Palo Alto which means that every restaurant basically serves filet mignon and chicken breast, sadly. This was so flavorful and lovely. If you like red meat, you will love this. The meat was cooked medium rare, but a bit more on the rare side, and it was tender, juicy, and minerally, and just what the doctor ordered after walking around for 10 miles in Santa Fe being touristy. There was a wonderful watercress salad on the side (most nutritious veg, beating out kale apparently), which balanced the meat well. Had a great tarragon mustard seed dressing too. Dessert: I had a flourless chocolate cake which I thought would be perfect, but I ordered poorly this time. Don't get me wrong, it was great- it was basically a chocolatey, not too sweet mousse. But unless you are obsessed with chocolate, I would recommend going for the salted butterscotch pudding which the dude ordered and which I salivated over. Dude also had a wonderful port, don't remember which one. Also had a great bottle of Saint-Emilion Bordeaux, which just made us so happy. The mark up was almost 3X but that's to be expected, I guess. Total bill for 2 very full and happy people incl tip: ~$280 You can def get away with a much smaller bill (order from the bar menu, split the generous entrees, don't drink as much!), but we were hungry and splashed out. Maybe this isn't exactly 5 stars, maybe it's more of a 4.5, but the meal made us so darn happy that I think rounding up is the way to go! read more

This is an outstanding restaurant. We were on a multi-state trip, found Joseph's written up in the hotel magazine, and being hungry travelers tried it out. "Pub" refers to the very warm atmosphere: warm, cozy, friendly, and attentive. We really enjoyed the youthful and seasoned manners of all of the staff we encountered. The food was excellent. Let me repeat, excellent, well deserving of a culinary award. All dishes were very well thought out and lip smackingly delicious. On our road trip through long stretches of desert, little towns, and country music on the radio we kept referring back to that wonderful little restaurant.
