    Tofu donburi

This place is okay. Not terrible but also not too memorable. The service was a bit chaotic when we went on a Thursday evening, it's a small place but the servers seemed a bit flustered. We tried a variety of items: tofu donburi, bento box and a few different rolls.

Came here on New Year's Eve, cute and intimate place. Glad they were open because everything was delicious! We got four rolls and all were a hit, they provided complimentary gyoza which was crispy and tasty. Service was great, only one person taking orders and there was no issues. Definitely coming back(:

The food is terrific. Came here after 1pm on a Friday to beat the lunch crowd and found parking easily. The parking in the plaza is awful during the lunch rush most days. Got seated and served really fast. I forgot my sunglasses in the restroom and the waitress brought them out to me. So nice! Thank you!!! This was my second time here and I'll definitely be back. The place is small and cozy, relaxed and not too loud.

Came for a Saturday lunch and was seated immediately for a party of two. There's only one server which makes it so that even though the restaurant isn't busy it takes a while to get the server's attention. We weren't even served water before we almost finished our meal which we had to ask for. The sushi combo plate that I got was ok, but Sushi Tomi nearby is miles above in quality in my opinion.

Picked up a Spicy Chicken plate, it came with rice, salad, a dressing, and soup. Very good portion of the chicken, given the plate is slightly on the expensive side. It was more of a chicken teriyaki flavor profile with a kick of spice to it (not sure what type of spicy sauce was used), but it tasted good. It was pretty saucy. Just about right for a dinner. I was not very fond of the miso soup, I felt it was a little overpowering for me. Overall I'd say 3.5/5. Nice ambience and a decent sized parking lot, a couple of other restaurants in the complex as well. They get the food ready pretty quick.

I've been looking for my go-to sushi place in the area and I've found it!! Joy sushi is great all around. Amazing selection of sushi, affordable, fast service, and delicious! My guests and I came in on a Friday at 5:30pm and were seated and served promptly. It seems like this is a popular place for takeout as there were quite a few tables available. If you are looking for a no frills, great sushi, amazing service, and affordable place- joy sushi is your spot!

LOVED this small local spot! Very fresh rolls, I believe the owners were making the rolls & they were so kind, the rolls were made very quick and were full of so much flavor! The island roll and the monster roll are pictured and probably our favorite two we tried of the night! 12/10 recommend!

I came to Joy Sushi with a friend for dinner. He had raved about it and it is his favorite sushi place. We came around 6:30 pm on a Tuesday and were able to be seated right away. I tend to like simple rolls without too much sauce where you can really taste the individual ingredients in the roll. I told the friend that- but even still the rolls all had a lot of sauce. I probably should have been more assertive in the ordering process- but since he said it was his favorite place and he had been there a ton, I figured he would know what was good. I was hugely disappointed- but may go back again to give Joy Sushi another chance and order on my own. I had a much better experience when I came for lunch a few months ago!

The owner and staff were incredibly kind and treated me like family. The tempura was the best I've ever had crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious! The sushi was fresh and tasted amazing, and the sushi boat was especially fresh and delightful. I highly recommend this place

Let's start off by saying we came 30 minutes before this restaurant closed. All the staff was friendly and encouraged us to do takeout (which we were already planning). Our food was prepared quickly and packaged well. We had all the essentials that we needed; soy sauce, ginger and wasabi + napkins. Let's get to the food... there were almost too many options to decide from but the ones we picked were super tasty. My friend and I both got different dishes so we could sample from each other. I will need to go back to try more and would recommend this place to anyone in the area! Next time I will be more prepared and come earlier so I can visit inside the restaurant with whichever guest I bring!

Cute, delicious, and A MUST TRY. Joy Sushi a cute Japanese joint nestled in Mountain View was an amazing spot to eat. The service from Joy Sushi was exceptional with the servers bringing a familial vibe in the restaurant. One of the servers even helped me learn how to use my chopsticks. Overall great service. The ambiance was great as well, though there wasn't LOADS of seating. The interior was very nice with lots of decorations and on the inside you could see a lot of the action happening which was cool. The food itself was GREAT. I got the Unagi Donburi which was an eel dish. The dish came with a bomb unagi sauce that tasted a little like a zesty thicker teriyaki which complemented the fattiness of the eel amazingly. The dish was the perfect portion for me to finish in the restaraunt and be full. The dish also interestingly came with some orange savory fish roe that popped. The eel was SO tasty. It was a little fatty and very tender with no overfishy taste emanating. It was overall an amazing dish that came with lots of rice. The dessert was a little less appetizing. We got strawberry and mango mochi which was ok. It tasted like one of the Trader Joe's mochi, but the presentation was beautiful and the price wasn't exorbitant. Overall Joy Sushi is a must try it provides plenty of good sushi and other entrees like my unagi donburi if sushi isn't your thing. If you are ever in Mountain View make sure to come to Joy Sushi to enjoy the delicious food, familial service, great interior, and affordable dishes.

This time, I used the online Yelp waitlist option and was able to get in much quicker. We were offered bar seats right away, but since we wanted a regular table, we waited just another five to six minutes, which was not bad at all. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and every time someone enters, the servers warmly greet them. Since it was our first time, the server took the time to explain the menu, which made ordering a breeze. Plus, the presentation of the food deserves a solid five out of five! Here is what we ordered: Tonkotsu Udon Deluxe (Large, Medium Spicy): The portion size is huge, and a regular size should easily suffice since I could not even finish the large. The pork kakuni (braised pork belly) was incredibly soft, tender, and packed with flavor, and the broth was really good. This deluxe version comes with everything in the regular Tonkotsu Udon plus pork belly: a rich pork and fish broth, three pieces of premium chashu, shrimp tempura (which I asked for on the side), a seasoned boiled egg, garlic, green onions, boiled spinach, fish powder, and tempura bits. Beef Sukiyaki Nabeyaki Udon (Regular, Mild): This includes sweet and tender beef, a poached egg, maitake mushrooms, onions, green onions, fish cake, and tempura bits. We actually felt the broth on this one was even better than the Tonkotsu. The beef was flavorful and an absolute delight to eat. Vegetable Tempura (A La Carte): Comes with sweet potato, eggplant, pumpkin, corn, maitake mushrooms, and broccoli. The absolute standout was the pumpkin because it was so sweet and tender. It comes with a lower-sodium, light soy sauce that makes dipping the tempura effortless and light. Hot Ginger Orange Sake: A lovely drink made with dried ginger, dried orange, and rosemary. The aroma of orange and rosemary was very calming, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Extras: They also provide a side of spice powder if you want to dial up the heat on your soup. Practical Details: Parking & Waitlist: Visiting on a Saturday means it gets very busy, and you will need to find parking before turning onto Castro Street. Joining the online waitlist ahead of time is definitely the way to go to make getting in smoother. Overall, it is a fantastic spot with wonderful service and incredible udon. We will gladly return!

The waiter initially tried to show me the menu and point out the dish, but it was clearly different from what I had ordered. He shortly realized there had been a mistake, and thankfully the correct dish came out about 5 minutes later. Unfortunately, the pasta itself was disappointing. The noodles were undercooked, and the sauce was quite bland. I was expecting the four-fish dashi and bacon flavor to stand out, but I didn't really get much of either. The sesame seeds were also very overpowering and seemed to take over the dish. Overall, the sauce tasted more like a basic, thin cream sauce that didn't coat the noodles very well. The bacon and mushrooms also didn't add much flavor or stand out as much as I expected. My friend ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry. The katsu itself looked crispy and appetizing, but the curry came out lukewarm. My friend was okay with the temperature, but when I tried it, I was honestly surprised by how close to room temperature it was. I would have expected the curry to at least be served hot or noticeably warm. Overall, the presentation of the food was nice, but unfortunately the flavors and temperature of the dishes didn't meet our expectations. Between the initial order mix-up, undercooked pasta, bland sauce, and lukewarm curry, it just wasn't a particularly memorable meal. There are definitely some things that could be improved.

Everything was simply prepared, properly cooked, and excellent. The squid was beautifully charred, the sausages were plump and blistered, and the shrimp were exceptionally crisp. We washed it all down with a bottle of chilled junmai sake. A nice touch: they bring over a basket filled with mismatched ceramic and glass sake cups so everyone can choose their own.
