I was once again craving dumplings and wanted to try a new dumpling spot. It's in a nice plaza, easy to find parking. I've always seen this restaurant in Poway, but was glad they had a location a lot closer to the UTC area. Inside was very nice and clean. Server was super attentive and checked in on us very often. Beef chow fun: This dish was good, but didn't really stand out. There was a bit of wok hay but was expected a bit more. The beef cuts were very tender. Just wish the soy sauce flavor would have come out a little bit more, but overall a pretty solid dish to start off. Spicy wontons: Picture looks like it's dry, but there was a ton of sauce/soup(?) at the bottom of the bowl. As I am super partial to spicy wontons, it was probably my favorite dish. I loved how savory the sauce was. It was a very thin sauce, hence why I said soup earlier, but it was flavorful. Not too spicy, so we added extra chili sauce they had on the side. Pork and chive dumplings: These were steamed (I think there was an extra charge to get them fried). I think the filling was a bit drier than the other dumplings we ordered. It came in a bowl that had a separate bowl for soy sauce and vinegar, which I thought was very clever. The skin was a bit thick, but there was a still a ton of filling. Very good, but nothing too special with the pork and chive. Chicken and corn: Somehow, at every dumpling spot, I always like the chicken and corn dumplings the most. It was much juicier than the pork and chive, but I also just really, really like corn. Just like the pork and chive ones, the skin is a bit thick but they give a ton of filling. I think they gave us an extra dumpling, too! TLDR: Nice location and easy to find parking, dumplings are solid but don't stand out from other places, very good service, very good food (see above for details), would come again. read more

We was thrilled to find this place since there seemed to be no other good Chinese food in Solana Beach. Everything we ordered was so good! The soup dumplings were a great appetizer. The snow pea leaves are a great veggie option, but a whopping $15. It's nicely seasoned with a thick layer of juice to drizzle on your rice. I liked the steamed dumplings, but I loved the fried buns much better. It's not something I can find in Austin. My favorite dishes were definitely the beef noodle soup and the salt and pepper fried fish fillet. They were giant portions and delicious! I came here with my daughter and ordered the following: Pork and onion fried buns - $9.99 for 6 giant buns Xiaolongbao Steam Bun - $10.99 for 10 juicy dumplings Spicy Crispy Chicken - $13.99 for a large plate with a bowl of jasmine rice Beef Wrap - $4.99 for a large serving Thai Tea - $5 for a large size I loved everything we ordered except for the spicy crispy chicken. Half of the plate consisted of chili peppers. There were just way too much peppers! The little chicken pieces were extremely crispy, I would say too crispy to point where they were dry. I did not feel I got my money's worth with this dish and will pass on ordering this again. All of the other items ordered were great! The Xiaolongbao dumplings were fresh and very juicy. The jumbo sized pork and onion buns were savory and satisfying. The beef wraps were better than most other places because they were not greasy. The Thai tea was just right, not too sweet. The food is ok but since they removed the two item combo plates it is expensive, they give you no rice with a $15-$18 main dish and you no longer have the ability to order just a plate which was ideal for our family. I hear good things about the new Chinese restaurant in the parking lot, joyee is a takeout place charging full finding prices so we might just spend our money at the full dining establishments going forward. Comes off as a quick serve dumpling spot. In a small Vons strip mall this busy little restaurant serves a bunch of different items that gives enough variety to please a crowd. Although it looks like a quick and fast dumpling spot, expect a 15-20+ minute wait which I don't mind since they cook it fresh for you, however keep this mind of your in a rush. Call ahead if you're on a time restraint. There's a couple tables inside and always seems to be busy and each time I've gone there's also a couple people sitting waiting for to give meals. This is our second lunch at a Joyee's Dumpling House.  It's about two miles from home, which makes it very convenient.  We ordered two dishes for lunch: PORK XIAO LONG BAO (3/5) -- My wife was looking forward to these soup dumplings ... and was disappointed.  The wontons were small and gummy with little soup in them.  ($10.99) DANDAN NOODLES (4/5) -- I have enjoyed some of the best Dandan noodles in the world, and the Dandan here is very good ... well worth ordering again.  ($9.99) Place your order at the counter for eat-in or take-out.   There are several tables inside and a dozen or so outside shared with other restaurants.  We ate outside, and our food was brought out to us.  Service was very good. Good food, good portions and friendly staff. The place has 6 large tables and a couple tables outside to eat. The food surprised me and I really enjoyed it. Orange Chicken was breast meat and it stayed crispy even with all the sauce on it. Pretty good and it was a huge portion enough for 3-4 ppl The beef chow mien noodles was also tasty I added a little extra soy sauce on it, also a large portion as u can see in my picture! Dumplings were okay not the best I've had but again a good sized portion. The cucumber appetizer was nice and refreshing to balance out all the meat. XLB was just okay. It satisfied my craving, that's all. The wrapper was a little chewy and thick. The filling tasted generic. The waitress was angry when I picked up the order, which I don't understand why -- she seemed to be in a big hurry while there was only one table of customers in the restaurant. The stems of the cucumber in the cucumber salad were not removed. There was no ginger to go with the xiao long bao. As it were not bad enough, we saw a dead ladybug in the salad halfway through eating. We totally lost our appetite and not likely to go back again. read more

This review is based on ordering the same two dishes, we have done so a few times and they have not disappointed. Mapo tofu - we like it sichuan style - so ask for extra spicy, extra numb and it hits the spot. Deep red color, fantastic flavor, spicy, numbing and authentic. I go up and down with this place, but tonight's takeout was fantastic and such a great value! You do need to pay $2/per little container of rice (not included with entrees), but the vegetarian entrees are HUGE portions and much more reasonable than the fish or meat. So I got tofu in brown sauce + Szechuan eggplant, with 2 things of rice - two massive portions for $11.99 each, so $30 altogether for the two dishes. Definitely 2-3 meals here, very yummy. Joyee on the highland place is surrounded by many business establishments. The area was clean and had a comfortable atmosphere. There are plenty of parking spaces available. The inside has a humble ambient with enough space for a small family but may not be able to accommodate events as there was only enough seating to accommodate other customers. The servers were friendly and the food was ready in no time. They have very good dumplings and honey walnut shrimp. The shrimp fried was also good. Make sure to ask for the chili flakes in olive oil to add up the spice to the the food. read more

So excited to have this new business in our shopping center!!! This dumpling house replaced a pick up Stix that has been gone for about a year. It is a very welcome restaurant! So, I finally got some food here and it was good! Customer service was great and patient and everything was ordered correctly and quickly. We ordered the BBQ product steamed buns, chicken fried rice and and some spring. The food was very plentiful and tasty. Well priced for the quantity and quality. I've been to Joyee Vista over a dozen times, however this time was different. the restaurant is always clean and I've found the staff very pleasant. one of the staff knows me well. Yesterday I ordered mushrooms and beef. Flavor and mushrooms were good as usual Except most of the beef even though it was velveted ,as always ,was mostly Grisel and not edible. I was very disappointed. I ordered rice( always cost extra) that was awful; even though it was a little sticky( which I like) it was hard, under cooked or not enough water. When first entering, the restaurant is very clean and very organized. You sit yourself before ordering. We ordered the scallion pancake, the beef wrap, xiaolongbao, leaf wrapped pork rice, and pork dumplings. The scallion pancake and xiaolongbao was amazing, highly recommend. yummy! This spot is in one of my food rotations for quick meals close by to me. Their shrimp chow mein is one of my staples. It's pretty much got everything you'd want. Noodles are cooked well, so is the shrimp! The portions are great for the price in my opinion but I have noticed sometimes it will be bigger haha The eggplant was a tad too sweet for me but my boyfriend loved it. Their dumplings are all yummy and they even offer them frozen if you wanted to grab a few extra to make at home! Service is fast and friendly. They remembered me after returning only on my second time coming haha. The ambiance is nice especially for the quality of food. I'm on the fence about this place. I like many of their dishes (e.g., eggplant with Szechuan sauce, pan-fried pork bun, seafood tofu, green onion pancake). But I've had back luck with some of their dumplings (e.g., creamy custard bun, chocolate Xiao long bao), and their milk tea is not good. I also got jelly in my milk tea when I asked for boba. I've been here several times, and have to say, it's a mixed bag. Some of the dishes are quite good, and some, not so much. I've found the dough for the dumplings to be much too thick and chewy, yet the Szechuan lamb stellar. Can't get enough of it (haha, the portions of this dish are actually plenty, it's just that I could eat it every day!). The key here is to experiment. The restaurant is near my location but I haven't had a chance to visit this place for meal. This is a Chinese restaurant serving variety of Chinese dishes. When I walked in, there are all Chinese people eating for lunch which signifies that food should be ok appealing to Chinese people which the food is meant to serve originally. I sat and ordered shrimp Cho Mein, Noodles with shrimps. It tastes much better than one served in Panda Express which I often go to for Chinese food. Finally got to try out this shop! It's been on my Yelp list for a while. It's located in a shopping center plaza, so there is plenty of parking. There's also plenty of seating. I ordered the pork and shrimp dumplings, xiao long bao, and beef roll. My favorite dish was the pork and shrimp dumplings. The dumpling skin was the perfect thickness for me, and I loved that the filling had a baby shrimp in each one. The xiao long bao was okay. I wish the soup had a stronger flavor. The beef roll was also just okay. It was my least favorite since it was a little on the bland side. I visited Joyee's Dumpling House (JDH) in San Diego on July 19. My wife and I ordered about 10 minutes before closing. We told the cashier we'd take the order to go since JDH was getting ready to close. To the cashier's credit he said it was fine if we dined in since he had to clean up the area. JDH is one of the restaurants, of which there are now many, that offer the choice to TIP when paying for the order. I never TIP until I'm done dining. I'm not going to reward a restaurant before it has earned it. My wife and I dined outside. We weren't able to eat everything, so I went in and asked for a to-go container. As the cashier retrieved the container I placed a cash TIP in the TIP jar located at the register. We were very happy with the food and service, so I gave a generous TIP. Weeks later I received my VISA statement. JDH had added a 15% TIP to my bill without my knowledge. I immediately called JDH for an explanation. JDH employee (to remain anonymous so there is no retribution by the owner) told me the owner of JDH instructed the staff to add 15% on to a bill if some one dined in and didn't TIP at time of purchase; ILLEGAL. I explained to the employee that I had indeed tipped, but only after finishing my dinner. The employee said that my cashier mustn't have seen me TIP, so they added a TIP to my bill. ILLEGAL! Per the previous employee's instruction I called back later in the week to speak with Neal, a manager. He explained the same TIP policy; the owner instructing to add 15% if no TIP is giving at time of purchase when customer is dining in. ILLEGAL! To JDH's "credit" it did refund my money when I pushed the issue. I have begun the process of filing a case with the San Diego City Attorney's office for fraud; theft by credit card. JDH operates multiple locations in San Diego County and I'm assuming the ILLEGAL TIP policy is active at all locations. How many $1000s of dollars have been charged to unwitting diners? The food and service was very good, but meanwhile JDH is picking our pockets. read more

Server was very kind. However, the food was terrible. Chicken wings were small and tasted old. They asked if we wanted to take them home because we only took a bite of one and told her we didn't like it. You'd expect her to remove it from the check, but she did not. I've been to the Joyee Dumpling House in Poway several times. I love it there, large portions and delicious food. I had lunch at the Highland Village location and was not especially impressed. We ordered green beans with garlic, pork and shrimp dumplings, shrimp chow mein and seafood wonton soup. It was a nice size portion of soup, wontons were delicious but it only had fish and a little calamari. I expected some shrimp. The broth was somewhat flavorless. Shrimp dumplings were delicious. Nice and tender. They weren't served with any sauce even though the plate they were served on had a little divet for the sauce. I used the condiments on the table. Shrimp chow mein just ok, nothing special. Green beans were good , but didn't seem to be freshly wokked and steaming hot. I probably would not return to this location. I wish I could give this places higher marks, but the whole experience was too mid. The service was uneventful, so I am just going to talk about the food. Shrimp and Pork Shumai- For some reason, they were very watery inside. This makes me think the shumai might have been frozen. They also were very bland. Pork and Chive Dumpling- The ones here were not that outstanding . I do not eat dumplings often, but all the ones I have had in The Bay Area have been much better than these. Green Beans with Garlic- This dish was good. The green beans were cooked well and had a nice crunch to them. Spicy Crispy Chicken - Probably the best dish, the chicken was seasoned nicely. Not too spicy and not too bland a good balance between the two. Overall there are some hits and misses. I do not think I would go out of my way to come back here, but I might drop by if I am in the area to try it again. read more
