Came to try their famed rice rolls and it did not disappoint! I loved the fact that you could add and customize the rolls to your liking. Yes, they aren't delivered as "pretty" as dim sum places, but the texture and suppleness is second to none in my opinion. That said, that was probably the one true superstar as far as the food goes here. We also tried a smorgasbord of other traditional plates here but weren't blown away. The chicken wings were jumbo wings, which was a good sign, but it looked like it was fried without any kind of coating making the skin dry. The pan fried noodles came with just way too much gravy and the fry on the noodles was too light making the dish kind of soggy and definitely much too wet. SO happy that I found this place during quarantine. I saw a photo of their cheong fun on instagram and was excited that this place was located near me. I've been here countless times since prices are cheap and affordable. They're fast and the food tastes great. Should note that they take cash only, but I think they accept venmo as well. I've tried their cheong fun with shrimp, beef, egg and corn, and liver. All of them have been great and I love this style of cheong fun, where the toppings are on top, rather than inside. I've also tried their pan fried noodles. They kept the sauce and noodles separate which I greatly appreciated. The noodles were fresh and super crispy. Food are honestly bad. Chicken meat is dry. The pork in porridge are big chunks of meat. 空心菜/water spinach is old and they didn't even bother to get rid of the stem - even home cooks would know to do that. Service is fine, but they only accept Venmo and cash and literally demand you to pay tips when you don't even like the food. I came here for Father's Day lunch and we were quickly seated. The servers were very efficient and knew the items well when we asked them for recommendations. The food came out pretty fast and we ended up trying some of their specials like the steaming hot pig intestines on the sizzling plate, which was very yummy. We wanted to try their house special duck, but they had just sold their last one to the table before us:( All the dishes had the right amount of seasoning and the rice rolls were so soft and fresh. It felt like they were melting in my mouth. They also have many variations to their rice rolls and can adjust the toppings to fit people. During covid times, I placed my order at the door (since the restaurant is closed off for indoor dining) and it was ready in 5 mins. The rice noodles are soft and thinner than the ones eaten at dim sum. There are many options for fillings including chicken, bbq pork, pork, pork liver, shrimp, fried shrimp, scallop, fish, corn, & egg. I have tried both beef & pork liver rice noodles and prefer the beef one. It's best eaten warm, delicious with the sweet soy sauce, & available all day long. I'm surprised I haven't written any review for this wholesome place. I guess the fact that I eat here quite so often, it slipped off my mind. This review is mainly based on take out experience. I often came in for breakfast menu (even in the afternoon, they are available), dumpling noodle soup with bok choy and rice noodles with pork liver. I crave pork livers quite so often, especially in the evening and the owner told me not to order it at night since they would be too hard. 5 stars for the honesty. Ask them what good in the menu, they'll tell you. One good perk about family owned restaurant. The fam members won't give two shyt. Lolz. The establishment is casual. Nothing much to add. The food is above average if you look at them as a whole. Not everything is great. They are specialized in porridge though. Hence, I come here only for the porridge. My comfort dish when I miss home; when I am sick; when my tooth is acting up; when my tummy won't corporate or when covid hit and my body was heavy as a rock with a fever. I've been eyeing this place for their steamed rice rolls, and I wasn't disappointed when I tried their food today! My friend and I came on a Saturday morning at around 11:00am, and we were luckily able to find parking close to the restaurant. We ordered a century-year egg and pork porridge, a pork liver rice roll, and a beef and egg rice roll. The food was super affordable at only around $20 (including tip) for everything, and the portions were great! I really enjoyed their porridge, which had a rich, flavorful taste with a lot of toppings. Also, their rice rolls were super thin, soft, and had a great bouncy texture. However, I wish they cooked the meat a little less, since the meats inside the rice rolls were pretty tough and dry. For the price and quality of food, I would definitely be back if I was craving a good cantonese breakfast! read more

I don't know why this place has such low reviews. I guess their offerings are kind a mixed bag. I'd recommend people come here for if you're looking for a Chinese brunch. They make them fresh with their own steamer in the back with your choice of beef, veggies, charsui pork, or shrimp. The noodles are springy and soft. They let you pour your own sweet vinegar soy sauce so yoh aren't overwhelmed with loads of it like at dim sum places. Pair that was some PORRIDGE and YEOW TIEU. The best porridge in my opinion is Pork with Century egg, there was a decent amount of pork but they do skimp out on the century egg which sucks cause I do love century eggs a lot. Dip the YEOW TIEU into the porridge before you eat it! It's perfect for cold mornings. Fun fact: If you translate the Cantonese of yeow tieu to English, it means "oil stick". Because its close to my house, I wished Joyful Kitchen would be good. I even gave it a second chance after my first visit was meh. Maybe it has to do with the dishes that I ordered on both my first and 2nd (and last) visit - chicken fried rice with salty fish and beef chow fun. What is otherwise a flavorful and delightful dish anywhere else, the fried rice dish was bland and hardly had so little salty fish in it that I had to hunt to make sure there was some in it. Also, the chow fun looked so sad. It looked as if they used broken bits of old / stale chow fun with some tasteless brown mass that was supposed to pass as beef. On top of that, it cost $37 for these 2 dishes and they only accept cash. I wouldn't mind paying $37 for the convenience and if the dishes were good - but I can't justify it for just the convenience.
