So I went to Judy's with my children based on the yelp reviews. Walking in, the place was pretty busy so I was excited to try it out. I ordered over medium eggs and those were fine, hash browns were ok and the sausage links had a weird after taste. I ordered French toast with fruit. It was not fresh fruit but the strawberry jelly stuff and it was smothered with it. I didn't care much for them. My eldest son had the western omelette and he said it was not the best he's had but that it was good. My youngest who is 18, ordered the chicken fried steak with okra and mashed potatoes. He took one bite and he spit it out. He can be picky at times so I tried some just to make sure he wasn't exaggerating. He wasn't. The meat was rubbery and the batter was very bland. The white gravy was ok. The mashed potatoes were chunky and bland. I had some of the okra and it was pretty good so this one gets one star for the okra. This was removed from the bill and he chose not to order anything else. The restaurant was clean and the service was good. Our bill was $32 and that was after the chicken fried steak was removed. A little pricey for a simple, bland breakfast. I'm not a picky eater and I will try just about anything at least once. This was my once for this place. read more

Yea I don't know where to start the French toast when they came out was cold and the chicken apple sausage were very small . The small orange juice came in a kid looking cup . The grits was let's just say don't eat them no matter what you do to them they were bland . When we asked the lady for the bill she never returned our server was busy with a full table . We finally get up to go pay and the lady like hold on I'll be right back and started doing many other things so at this point we just standing there !!!!!! In town to visit family. Took our Granddaughter (2 1/2) out to breakfast before Church on Sunday. Staff was VERY friendly, service was almost instantaneous, food was delicious. They kept our coffee cups filled and checked back frequently. My granddaughter's chocolate chip pancakes were amazing. My wife's omlet was HUGE and stuffed with good things. My basic egg, bacon and hashbrown breakfast was perfect. This place is the epitome of a small town local diner. I was shocked at how highly rated this diner was compared to our experience. We love the diner experience and often find our favorite places are small town gems but our food was mediocre at best. Let me say though that the service was GREAT. Our server was attentive and quick and we were always checked on for coffee or water refills by other staff. Now, to the meat of the review - the food. My wife ordered the veggie omelette and it was dry as a bone and the eggs were over cooked. The biscuits were good but the gravy tasted like an instant gravy either straight outta the packet or can. I ordered the eggs benedict. The eggs were fine and the hollandaise sauce was decent but the ham/Canadian bacon was chewy as a flip flop. Had to use a knife to cut through it. This was my first and last visit to this cafe. Very clean and courteous host and server; cashier wasn't very friendly at all. The food portions are quite small. I think they purchase the thinnest sliced bacon on the market and you get 2 pieces. The gravy had no flavor; maybe they are buying it in a can and forgot to season it. The price is about 60% more than what you would get at Poor Richard's in Plano. I can order the kings breakfast at poor Richard's for under $10; this includes 3 eggs, a lot of bacon, breakfast potatoes, 2 pancakes and biscuits and gravy. A friend suggested trying out this local cafe. It's in a small shopping center right at the intersection of Campbell and Jupiter roads. The hostess/cashier and the servers are friendly and attentive. I could tell this is the sort of cafe that definitely has regulars. One of the servers actually sat down at one couple's table. I tried the catfish plate. The cooks here know how to fry it properly so it doesn't come to your table overcooked with a rock hard crunchy crust. I made poor choices on the two sides. The mashed potatoes didn't have enough gravy. They were pretty bland so I requested extra gravy to avoid grabbing the salt shaker. My other side was a big disappointment. I saw fried zucchini and since it's a small local cafe I had high expectations. I was expecting them to come to the table sliced round like cucumbers in a delicious batter, like some good Southern cooking. Instead they came out cut like green beans in a bland crusty batter. The fried zucchini seemed like something you would buy in the frozen food section at the grocery store. At least it's served with a cup of ranch dressing for dipping. That helped a little. Sweet tea is good here and all of the drinks come in one size for $2.29 except for juice and milk. There is a dessert case filled with pie and cake. It is a home town diner, if your intent is to be impressed, like the Manson on Turtle Creek, this is not your spot. The breakfast fare is perfect. Hash browns are golden and plentiful, smoky crisp bacon, sausage just right. For lunch they have a surprise, a very good gyro and the tzatziki is perfect. Judy must have a Greek in the family. They are always very sweet to my toddler and bring out crayons, talk to her, etc to make sure she has fun too. Food and service very good, love the family owned business. They make you feel like you are like family, Judy always comes by to ask how Larry and me are doing. Her son Bekine and his wife Kate will be taken the restaurant over, while Judy and hubby retire to Florida. Will miss Judy after we have been eating there for last 9 years. But, Bekine and Kate are excellent in running Judy's restaurant and making it still the best little secret in town. Great little diner with friendly customer service. My breakfast of fried eggs, hash browns, bacon and biscuit with gravy was yum-o. My daughter's cinnamon French toast may have been the best French toast we've ever had. We liked it so much that we bought a loaf of their cinnamon bread to take home. Came here for Breakfast around 10am.qe were seated immediately. The place was packed. The people were friendly. I ordered the banquet skillet which had sausage, bacon, ham, mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes over hash browns and cheese with eggs over easy. I chose biscuits and gravy as my side. That was the best part of my breakfast. The meat seemed old like it was cooked early in the morning and they scrambled it into my skillet which overcooked it. The sausage was burnt and hard. The waitress could see I was picking my food and offered to get me something else but I really didn't see anything else I wanted. Bae liked how sausage and mushroom omelets. He ate his whole plate. Demographic of customers does tend to be to the right, e.g. Older Desserts are made fresh daily and when it's out, that is all you get for the day. Had some great looking strawberry shortcake and there were only 4 slices left so I took one for the team and got my dessert before my entree. Judy's Cafe is a good spot for breakfast and conveniently located for people in the Garland/Richardson area. Good, friendly service and the food is above average. I've eaten here twice for breakfast - the portions are big but today, the skillet I had was pretty greasy - I know that happens when you mix sausage, bacon and ham. You're able to substitute toast for biscuits and gravy or a pancake which is a nice option and there's plenty of parking in the strip mall lot. Overall, Judy's is somewhere between 3 to 3.5 stars in my book and I'll be back when I'm looking for decent hangover food. Honestly, it was a healthy size but was neither crisp nor wonderfully mealy, was hot but not particularly juicy, and it tasted like it had never seen seasoning. The hash browns were okay, but seemed somehow both burned and undercooked at the same time. The toast was good, but it's toast. Eggs were fine. Afterwards, paying was almost excruciatingly slow.
