I came here with some friends because we were staying in the area, and overall it was okay but honestly my portion was so tiny I can't really say. I was pretty bummed that for $8.95 the amount of actual pitaya was less than 1/4 of the container (see picture below). Went to this place about a month ago, and I absolutely will never go again. Me and a friend ordered 2 sandwiches to go, in which the owner made them with no gloves on and without washing his hands before, after touching multiple things. After he handed them to us I told him that he needed to remake them. He did try to justify why he didn't wear gloves, but sorry you just can't. Common sense. He probably looked at us like dumbass teenagers who don't give a shit but I in fact cared. The spread of germs is real right now unfortunately and ESPECIALLY as a restaurant owner you should know that you loose business being a nasty ass. I have been coming to Juice Kaboose for many many years but this was my first bad experience with the staff. My smoothie was delicious but the cup was defective. When I inserted my straw in, it burst vertically down the side spilling my smoothie all over my purse, the stool and the floor. The two young women would not help me clean up. When I asked for a towel they said "we do not have towels and pointed to the paper napkins." I asked several times for help and a towel but they just pointed me to the napkins and said there were napkins on both sides of the dispenser. I used all of the napkins available. They took the defective plastic cup and poured what was left into another cup. They did not offer to make a new one or to at least make sure I got the entire smoothie I had paid for. I also had tipped them and they just turned away from me and let me clean up what I could on my own. I ran out of napkins to clean up so there was smoothie left on the stool and floor. They just kept chatting away with each other. I am also suspect about the freshness of this smoothie. I had not even put my wallet away in my purse after ordering and they handed me a smoothie and said it was mine. I did not even hear the blender going. The classic acai bowl was pretty delicious! I enjoyed the flavor but the service is what knocked my review down to two stars.. Our acai bowl was supposed to have strawberries in them and the worker asked if we wanted extra fruit instead of strawberries. Of course we were okay with that but the other option was for us to wait and the worker would go get them.. we were thinking she had to go to the store and buy some but she actually just had to go downstairs... I guess I wasn't too fond of the way we were asked~ It just didn't seem like the worker wanted to go out of her way to go get the strawberries and wanted us to option with the extra fruit instead.. Another thing was, we used a coupon that we found online for a buy one get one 50% off. We had no idea that it was previously expired but the worker came up to us, AFTER we were half way done eating our acai bowls, and asked us to pay the $4.95 we got discounted. This would definitely be a different review if she had asked in a more professional and nicer way but she was almost demanding.. Being in the food industry, I would have expected to be told that the coupon was expired but to make sure that we double check it next time~ but to come up to us and say "you owe $4.95" and wait for us to dig through our wallets to pay it up, it was one of the most unprofessional things i've experienced. I paid her with a $5 bill and there was no initiative in giving my 5 cents back.. I'm not stingy on the money but it was the principle for her to offer it back or at least verbally say "i'll be back with your change". Overall, the acai bowl was pretty good. I've had better but it's worth trying out this place if you're on an acai bowl hunt (I've been obsessed lately). But, because of the horrible service.. That's insanely high and I will never come back here again for wheatgrass ... Acai bowls are not too pricey by contrast and can share with someone ... The acai bowl here was mediocre at best. Most places use the same ingredients.: Sambazon acai, a fruit juice or soy milk, bananas--all blended and topped with granola and more fruit. But for whatever reason, the bowl was particularly soupy. Too much juice? Not enough fruit in the mixture? Also the service was absolutely horrible. We went in as a group of 5 and one of my friends asked for a modification of his acai bowl. The owner, who was taking orders and preparing the food, refused to modify the bowl at all, saying "I stick to the menu" and "you can only get what the menu says". When we told him that we'd been there before and had modified our bowls with other friendly Juice Kaboose staff, he replied by saying, "well, she should not have made your bowl like that. I'm going to fire her ass!" in reference to our previous Kaboose Juicer. It's one thing to not cater to customer needs, but to then threaten another employees job because she actually was willing to serve her customers is totally offensive and utterly stupid. You get blended acai pulp with tons of mango, banana, strawberry, blueberries (it varies) with granola on top. Acai bowls don't get any better than what they offer here at Juice Kaboose. Two words: ACAI BOWL! Please lord, bring some of these magnificent, glorious, life-changing acai bowls to the city of New York. I will convert to any faith (and do just about anything) to have the acai bowls at Juice Kaboose everyday! I somehow always end up at Juice Kaboose whenever I'm in La Jolla, and for good reason. Not only does this place make a killer acai bowl (huge, and filled with organic granola and a ton of fresh fruits), but all of their fresh pressed veggie and fruit juices and smoothies are also amazing and very well-priced. I really enjoy The Green Thing, which is super healthy and delicious with a blend of parsley, carrot, cucumber, celery and spirulina. Trust me, just get it! Now if green juices aren't your thing (which they are not for the bf), the fruit smoothies are phenomenal and refreshing - all made with healthy, all-natural ingredients. A friend and I were visiting La Jolla for memorial day weekend & decided to stop into Juice Kaboose for breakfast. Because I am a vegan and there weren't many vegan options available, we opted for a breakfast smoothie, because you can never go wrong with a smoothie, right? Wrong. Let's start with the positives... I had the anti-oxidant smoothie which consists of wheatgrass, spinach, mango, blueberries, apple juice, and spirulina. It was very tasty and energizing. I felt light and lifted after drinking it. I must say, I am a self-proclaimed smoothie connoisseur, and the smoothie quality was great. My friend had an acai bowl that came with granola and lots of fresh fruit. She loved it. I tasted it and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. This is the only reason I am giving Juice Kaboose 2 stars. Now on to the negatives... The service was awful. We walked in, had no idea where to order, so we gave our order to the employees behind the counter when in actuality we were supposed to order at the cash register first. Nobody greeted us or directed us where to order or what to do when we came in. Not a huge deal. What really put me off is that the employees working behind the counter making the smoothies & bowls were really unpleasant and rude, especially one in particular who made a snide remark to me for absolutely no reason while I was waiting for my friend to get her order. I would never return. There are too many other great smoothie & juice bars around with welcoming, friendly employees. I go to this place all the time because its right next to my work but today was the last time! Usually all the girls that work there are very nice, but today an older women was working. I think she was the owner because she was wearing normal clothes. She put turkey in my veggie wrap and when I came back with it she got super annoyed and didn't even apologize. She just had somebody make a new one and starred at me giving me crazy looks the whole time. Then an elderly women accidently dropped her smoothie and the women yelled at her to be careful. I personally like it without the mango cause there mango I think is to squishy almost like it doesn't taste that good. But there strawberries and bananas with there gel alp is so good now when you get to the bottom of the acai bowl. think that your out of granola the put a huge amount of granola in the the middle bottom of the bowl so now worries. Pretty damn good acai bowls, but not the best. I'm partial to Cafe Brazil's in Santa Cruz. Juice Kaboose's is a close second. It tastes more milky than I'd prefer, but it was filling and delicious! They kind of skimp on the granola and fruit toppings, but I do love the giant buckets they serve it in---no spillage of toppings! Yes, I WILL place a napkin under my bowl to catch runaway granola because I AM that cheap and that much of a pig, so I was glad I didn't have to do that here. I also loved their Red Riding Hood jucie too! Super fresh tasting! Perfect in between meal on a beautiful SD afternoon....or a perfect meal if you're a skinny bitch. I've only had th Acai and Pitaya bowl but both were really good. The price might seem steep but you get a really generous portion. I prefer to get my Acai and Pitaya blended with apple juice (which is an option!). The fruits are really fresh and the granola complements everything really well. Although I've only tried Acai Bowls at a hand full of locations, Juice Kaboose is still at the top of my list. However, I have actually only had the Acai Bowl at Juice Kaboose. Nonetheless, I think ti's great and my rating goes for the acai. They give you a large amount of acai and it isn't too watery (unlike many other locations). They top the acai with hemp granola, which I love to death. The fruit on top varies a little. There is always banana and most of the times there are mangoes but I'm not completely sure if it's always fresh. There are usually strawberries but the last time I got it they did not include any strawberries. Not in season? Price is not too bad for the amount of acai they give you as well as the quality of it. Parking is not too bad as well. Not in the middle of downtown La Jolla so there is not as much competition for the parking spots around the area. In conclusion, if you were to only try it once from Juice Kaboose, go in the summertime when the fruit are in season and you can sit outside on the patio and truly enjoy your Acai Bowl. read more

In need of a pick-me-up to sustain the tummy, soul, and spirit on the long drive home, I decided to make a quick stop at Juice Kaboose. Don't judge me--I'm basic at my best. It was 6:50 pm on a Saturday evening, and I vividly remembered that the store closed in a little over ten minutes. In an attempt to not be that girl rollin' up to the drive-thru with a 500 Chicken McNugget order a minute before closing at MickeyD's, I was hustling. And to be honest, the expansive menu didn't make anything easier as each option seemed to offer up something seemingly "healthier" than the last. You thought you wanted the Pitaya bowl, but why don't you try it with spinach and an extra helping of strawberries. A dusting of bee pollen or chlorella? Sure thing, but at a small additional cost. This place is truly a health nut's heaven. After a few minutes worth of deliberation made easier by the kindness and consideration the two employees, I ordered the Pitaya bowl WITH the spinach to hit that five-a-day. Mom would be proud--especially once she saw the little beaut. The pictures don't lie. The standard-sized bowls here are absolutely massive--enough for the hungry, and barely enough for the hangry. For the standard human though? I honestly suggest sharing. The portions are definitely enough for two. My bowl came with a generous array of bananas, blueberries, and sliced strawberries, and an even more generous literal fist-full of hemp granola. They definitely were not going for the minimalistic sprinkle with that, and all for the low, low price of 7-8 dollars! If only you could take a peep into my soul right now. It. Is. Smiling!
