Al is a standup, honest guy, his work is good, and his price is fair. Seriously, everything you want in someone you're entrusting a big decision to. We had him here to replace our radiant heat boiler in our Eichler. Starts with Al being very responsive when scoping the work. (Compared to another company who sent a tech to see if they could repair it, then I had to ping them a few times to get a quote.) Al obviously knows his specialty, was able to give me a quote quickly based on some photos of the current boiler he would be replacing. And his pricing is very reasonable. Then during the job Al is capable and communicating, like when the heater was late in arriving, or when our ancient wiring and the new thermostat were not playing nice and we needed to think of a new plan. This was especially challenging in an Eichler, where running new wiring is nontrivial, so I'm glad after a few other options, Al had the idea to use a wireless thermostat. Wow, I just called to get a quote about upgrading my tank water heater, to tankless... and what a horrible experience. He gave me a quote over the phone without seeing any pictures or anything (just answered some questions), and I asked if venting for a condensing unit would be a problem and if it was apart of the quote he gave me. And Al literally blew up, "where did you hear it was difficult, that's BS", and then "if you want to argue go find someone else".. I'm just in shock, I was just asking if it was apart of the quote to do any of the ventilation needed for the new unit, especially since he hasn't even seen any pictures of my garage or the current tank. He didn't even answer my question, he got so triggered by my question, he became extremely rude and started yelling at me. The highest heating temperature displayed 120% After exhaustive attempts to raise the temperature I believed I had to purchase a new tankless unit. Called around and was directed to Tankless.com. Al replaced our old tank heater with a Navien tankless just over a year ago. He's friendly and a very knowledgeable guy - it was pretty clear he had done this for a while, and was not someone who just could handle the easiest install jobs. AFAIK, this company is largely a one-man operation, Al will answer the phone/emails, come in his truck, and do the work himself. He spent a few hours and completed the job within a day. We had a couple issues with the heater since install. 1. The heater abruptly malfunctioned, and displayed an error while not outputting any warm water. Al responded at the end of the day and came out the next day to replace the PCB. He mentioned this was a known issue, but Navien was not proactively replacing PCBs on past installs. 2. The heater would very slowly drip water in certain conditions. Al came out and said it should be normal and resealed the connections, but I keep a drip tray under the heater now. Overall, a good company / individual to work with for tankless heating, it seems my issues were more likely due to Navien than the install, and Al was very responsive in helping evaluate them when they did come up. read more

They never confirmed that they were coming, and later sent me an email that they couldn't find the road that my house is on. Our NAVIEN water heater went out a few weeks back. I thought the repair would be a pretty quick, straightforward process but I was wrong. I went online to find a group certified technicians that were qualified to work on our brand of water heater. I called the technician on the list which was closest to our home. It wasn't Just Tankless - it was a different company - Clap Construction in Mountain View. Phillip from CLAP Construction and his assistant came and spent an hour and a half poking around and said he wasn't able to finish, but that he would need to come back in the morning and finish up. He comes back in the morning for another hour and tells me the bad news... "you're going to need a new PCB board along with a new valve and igniters." It was going to be around $1500. He suggested we just get a brand new water heater since other parts were bound to go bad in the future...blah, blah, blah. After hanging up with him, I wanted a second opinion (I didn't trust this guy.). I called Just Tankless and spoke to the owner named Al. He was a really nice, honest guy. I told him the story and how I wanted a second opinion. It was a Saturday and he didn't have time but he said he would squeeze me in somehow later in the afternoon. He showed up, took a look at the water heater and told me that the other guy mis-diagnosed the problem. It was only the *valve* that needed replacing, everything else was fine. The valve was only a few hundred so Just Tankless saved me over a $1000, maybe more, since I was considering buying a brand new water heater. I had to order the valve and overnight it, but the water heater was fixed in no time, thanks to Al. The parts that Clap Construction deemed defective actually weren't bad. Al told me that they were perfectly fine, he just told me they were bad to make some money off me. Al is a professional in every sense of the word. He was knowledgeable, quick, efficient and on-time. He really saved us from being without hot water for days. I was very grateful to have found him especially after running into the scam artist from Clap Construction. Al and his colleague changed a defective tankless heater that was leaking water with a brand new Navien one. The problem did not go away and the new heater kept leaking. They both came back three more times and they did not fix the problem but rather rerouted the leakage to the drain rather than the floor. The heater had intermittent issues as well. Apart from not getting clear answers, Al did not provide a two-year warranty as he agreed to in the beginning, and took the job although it was far from his location, which I didn't know in the beginning. In conclusion, you need to hire a specialist and Al is not as knowledgable. read more

Al is absolutely the BEST. He is very professional, he has outstanding communication and a he is a master craftsman of his trade. I should say tradeS because he is a jack of all trades. I have a 5 year old Noritz tankless water heater that was leaking on the inside and there isn't supposed to be water on the inside! I found Just Tankless on the Noritz website as a certified installer. I called them on Saturday morning (because all water leaks occur on Friday night after everyone is closed for the weekend). There are 3 numbers on their website, and Al picked the phone on one of them, thankfully! Al ended up coming out and was super knowledgeable and honest and gave great advice. He diagnosed it quickly as a faulty heat exchanger and called Noritz right there and texted them pictures and since it was under warranty (parts only, not labor), they sent me the parts for free. Al informed me that it would be about 5 hours to replace it. And in our area, the cost of living is so high that the going hourly rate for plumbers is so high. The part wouldn't arrive for another 2 or 3 days so I had to wait and Al said that he unfortunately didn't have the time in his schedule to replace it himself. It was difficult to find anybody to replace it, but I did find someone solid and I am grateful. But I would take Al and Just Tankless any day. He was kind, comfortable, took time with me, had true empathy, and dealt very honestly. He told me a very simple solution to something that I should add to my system to prevent this from happening again, which i now have added. We had an issue with our existing tankless water heater, Rinnai, no hot water. Called a company that we have used previously for regular service. They came out out today, Saturday, and determined after calling Rinnai text support and reading the display on our control box that there was a flow issue. Technician says we would have to order a new part for replacement on Monday, wait for delivery and replace the new part. I assume this would take a week before completion and a week with no hot water. Decided to call Just Tankless for another opinion based on Yelp reviews. Al responded to my call and came at 5:30. After a couple of minutes, he knew exactly what was the issue and explained how he could service the problem. He removed the cover, took out the part and disassembled to remove the particles that were preventing flow. Replaced everything and we were in business again. Then there are truly professional technicians who understand the total mechanics of a system and act accordingly. It was not just the cost difference. Since it was Friday night, we would have to wait until Monday to order the part, and be without hot water for almost a week! Al is extremely rude, defensive, and unprofessional. I got a quote for a tankless water heater, and had a plumber out for something else and had him take a look at the proposal. He told me that the unit Al suggested would not work because of some pipe measurements or flu vent size or something. When I emailed Al asking for reassurance about this, he accused me of pitting him against other contractors and replied "Ok, whatever. Good luck with it." WTF? I never said anything about getting him to lower his price or defend his choice. I've never bought a water heater before and I literally just wanted him to explain it to me! When I tried to explain that I just wanted to make sure the unit was going to work, he said "we can not possibly be expected to defend our position" and "I will not get in a position to argue back and forth who is nearly as qualified as we are" and "Playing two contractors against each other is not something we play along.." I have recently upgraded the power circuits in my home to support a tankless water heater. I have a list of models that would provide the necessary flow, but I deferred choosing one until I selected a plumber (to get their feedback on models they trusted). After receiving this information, Al told me that you can't install electric tankless water heaters, that it was impossible project, and it couldn't be done. WHAT? I persisted to try and understand what he was saying, but he just spouted a stream of nonsense: 1. It's impossible to install enough circuits -- two 60amp circuits or three 40amp circuits? This isn't rocket science. 2. You can't get enough power from PG&E to power one -- I have it already 3. It will cost you much more what a normal water heater will -- Energy Star and many other installation reports indicate 50% savings at our flow rate 4. Nobody buys electric tankless -- Which is why they're sold at Home Depot, Lowes, OSH...? Yeah, those stores stock products that nobody uses. Seriously, he just told me my project is not doable and yet he can't justify a single thing he said. This wasn't a voice of experience raising practical considerations, it was someone who wanted to avoid a prepared, intelligent customer. This is a predator. Stay away. read more
