In town for work and stopped by this place for dinner. One of the best meals I've had in quite a while. I ordered Chicken kobideh and Appetizer platter. Chicken was unbelievably good. Raisin and carrot rice is a must have. App sampler was amazing as everything else was. The red and green sauce they bring to the table were great. Favorite was the white sauce though. Owner is very friendly and welcoming/helpful to someone relatively new to the cuisine. I usually don't write Yelp reviews but for Kabul Grill, I just had to. Hands down some of the MOST DELICIOUS FOOD and down to earth employees I've ever seen in the restaurant business. From the second you walk in, you're greeted with the warmest of welcomes as if you are part of the family. Don't even get me started about the food, You can literally close your eyes point to anything on the menu and guarantee it will be a fantastic meal. I couldn't pick a favorite item if I tried. One thing I will point out, the chicken is the most succulent chicken I've EVER had at any restaurant and sorry mom if you're reading this, but it was better than hers. As you can tell, I'm obsessed with the food but even more so I come back for the exceptional service. Once I came to Kabul Grill a little under the weather, noticing I wasn't on my prime, the owner Mazhar put in an order of the most delicious Chicken noodle Soup for me and in all honestly I felt better immediately. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Kabul Grill & Tea House is an outstanding family owned (BYOB!!) Afghan restaurant on the East side of Route 107, just a block or two south of the Broadway Mall. It has an unpretentious storefront which is easy to pass by so first time diners need to pay attention.Parking can be difficult along 107 in Hicksville but, Kabul Grill, happily, has a large rear parking lot. On 5/6 I hosted a dinner for eleven other members of our dining group.The dining room is bright and nicely decorated. Tables are situated a respectable distance apart. Upon my arrival, Maz, the pleasant twenty-something son of the owners, directed me to our group's large table. Enthused by the inestimable pleasure of sitting next to Dick G. and Bonnie, and two shots of Grey Goose, it was time to put together a coherent order. Murcel, one of the owners' two lovely daughters, patiently answered our group's questions, made recommendations and took orders. I chose the Combination Appetizer Platter ($13.95), which gives you a choice of three(full size!) appetizers. Helped by Murcel, I chose Mantoo(Ground Beef Dumplings), Kashk Badenjan(Cooked Mashed Eggplant) and Hommus. I chose Lamb Chops($19.95) for my entree. With any entree you have the option of ordering the special rice with raisins and thin sliced carrots for a few dollars more. I suggest that you do that, like I did on 5/6. The meal started with a complimentary Green Salad with a simple ranch style dressing. The lettuce was fresh, cool and crisp. It was a delicious salad.My appetizers were off the charts excellent and incredibly well seasoned. OMG...you could make a meal of the fabulous appetizers here. The Lamb Chops (about 5) arrived perfectly medium as requested.They were tender and nicely seasoned. The accompanying special rice was moist and flavorful, with a generous amount of carrots and raisins. My fellow diners enjoyed the Awshak (Scallion Dumplings), Barg Kabob (Marinated Beef), Lamb Shank, Vegetarian Stew(Okra, Spinach, Eggplant) and Baklava. Indeed, this is only a partial list of the great options this restaurant offers. Moreover,one cannot help but note that the prices here are ridiculously low and, indeed, lower than at most diners on Long Island. The servers here are very nice. It's Valentine's Day and you might think I would choose a nice Italian Restaurant to dine out with the wife right? NOT! BORING! Why not try the highest rated Afgani restaurant on Long Island? Kabul Grill, located close to the Broadway Mall in Hicksville was wonderful. It was intimate, had a nice little parking lot and cute Valentine's decor. We were warmly greeted and immediately seated in the corner of the restaurant at a very nice table. At 6:00pm the dinner crowd hadn't fully arrived, so we enjoyed relatively quiet dining for the first half-hour or so. They start you with some thin pita-like bread and the table had two distinct hot-sauces that can be sampled, or added to your meal if you prefer spicy foods. The menu had many options and although I can't pronounce most of the dishes... each one had a description. Our primary server was really cool. We explained what we wanted and he recommended dishes that matched those needs perfectly. After we ate a yummy little starter salad with a house yogurt dressing, the dinners arrived quickly. They were beyond delicious! Unique flavors that I tried to compare to things I have eaten before but couldn't find a comparison. I though it was like some wild Indian / Greek fusion. With stews and kebobs and the best brown basmati rice I have ever tasted. This place was a real treat! We asked our server whats good for dessert? It was suggested we order the pudding. Which we were glad we did, again delish. Wife loved it. Had salad and pita bread with a variety of different chutneys Main course: combo platter 1-boneless chicken breast and barg (fillet mignon) perfect amount of meat, seasoned well. The fillet mignon was cooked at an inconsistent temperature, which led to a variety of 'done-ness' of the meat, but it still tastes really good. Great dinner here. I didn't expect much from when first walking in here because there was nobody in here but I was totally wrong. The service is great since its family owned the mother and son serves up the customers and they do a good job at it. Food came out fast and the meat was so moist it was surprising. Ambiance is homey and as the night went on there was a live violinist which makes dining romantic and relaxing. Prices are good where you can get a 3 course meal for 2 people for around $50. I have passed Kabul Grill at least twice daily during the week for many years. Never payed any attention to it other than remembering that it replaced a long standing Italian restaurant about 14 or so years ago. The fact that it is still there says a lot, given the density of places to eat in the general Hicksville area. So when friends picked it as a place to meet recently, we were intrigued . BYOB without a corking fee is always a draw. We had a great time, as it seemed like everyone who dined there did....happy, gregarious groups eating, drinking and spending the night with friends and extended family. There were 3 very large groups of families with kids and grandparents all enjoying the night. Food was excellent. Loved the pumpkin and samosa type apps. Our friends had the lamb shank and lamb chops, both excellent and perfectly cooked. I had lamb kabob, Lee had the hen and beef ones...all of us having a beautiful skewer of grilled veggies instead of rice. All in all, we really feasted for 45 dollars a couple before tip....friendly family run and welcoming. We are looking forward to returning soon. Go without hesitation. read more

The only thing we got in large portions was the basmati rice on each plate. The kabobs were not generous and my vegetarian stew was a plate of rice with 3 small bowls containing the veggies. So if you go with six people with six yelp accounts you could get six free appetizers. This place is kind of dark. Like it is well lit but at the same time it has a dark atmosphere. The things inside a dark like the carpet and the chairs. It's not the most welcoming atmosphere and even though the staff is quite nice. The chairs mom and I sat on were little dirty. Just look a little old. The carpet looks old. But my table was clean. Though my glass for water did actually have a chip. It wasn't sharp so I didn't feel uncomfortable and the rest of the class was fine. For lunch mom and I got two of the lunch specials we got one that had meat and spinach together. I found a little salty mom found the meat to be a little grizzly and fatty. It did have a good flavor but... The other thing we shared was a steak kebab I forget exactly what the name was. Well I forget what the name was for both dishes but if you look at the menu with easy to figure out what I'm talking about. The meat on the kebab was actually quite good seasoned perfectly very nice amount of meat for the price of everything. Mom and I agreed that their rice is delicious. They give a huge portion of rice two which is amazing for me. Considering how much we ordered especially with the appetizer we were able to bring some food home for the dog lucky little thing. It was a fine lunch. But I don't really think we're going to be back anytime soon. And we kind of agree that the stars that this place has we don't really understand why they have so many. I like the cozy and intimate feel to this restaurant. There are only about ten tables with a bottle of pellegrino on each table. The service is super fast and friendly! Plus, they are open until 11:00 pm every night. For appetizers, I tried the awshak and the hummus. Both were very well spiced; however, the hummus was a little too serous for my liking. For the main course, I had the chicken kobidesh. It was very flavorful and pleasantly charcoaled. The dish came with a plentiful portion of basmati rice. This place is amazing! Great food, friendly service, and a decently decorated/furnished establishment made for a pretty amazing lunch on this rainy day. We were a little weary about trying this place after a major fail by Kebob King, but the two don't even compare. I don't know what type of Kebob they think they're kings of, but they sure could take a lesson from this place. If I had to compare, I'd compare it to Choopan Grill, but we'd choose this place over CG any day. They bring out complementary pita with two sauces, which were ok. Not really fond of the super thin pita, but no complaints really. Checking into yelp got us complementary bolani as an appetizer... Flaky, flavorful and yum! :) We ordered the combo for two with chicken kebob, beef tikka and chapli kabob... And I can't explain how juicy, tender, FRESH and flavorfull the kabobs were! It came with side salad and brown rice, both of which were good. Our favorite in order was the chicken chapli kabob, chicken kebob and the beef would come last. We would't choose beef the next time because surprisingly the chicken kebobs were so much better in flavor. Beef was good too, but not as good as the chicken. Usually chicken tends to be blander, but not here! Service was perfect! I think we were seated by the owner, she was really sweet! Our server was great too. No complaints at all there. I'd have liked to order some tea or dessert, but we were so full by the end of our meal. Maybe next time. I hope this place never stops doing whatever it is they're currently doing! My updated review post food- I had the chicken shish kebob that came with their brown rice, and complimentary hummus as an appetizer for my previous review. My order came with a white sauce and a green, both bursting with flavor on their own, and a great addition to the spicy sauce. My favorite was the white, which was a yogurt sauce that I put on the rice and dipped the chicken into. A thin bread similar to pita made with flour came with my order that left much to be desired. They should look into alternatives. The chicken has properly grilled through and loaded with distinct spices. It will awaken a jaded tongue. Kabul Grill is the Mecca for Mediterranean food. I've just begun to realize the culinary potential on Long Island. This place is a must for non-believers and those who chase more exotic fare. read more
