It was a good portion of food. The curry itself was just okay. It didn't seem as flavorful as I've had it elsewhere. It was a lot more enjoyable after I added some hot sauce. My boyfriend's beef pad thai was tasty. I thought we were splitting half half, but guess I was wrong haha! I was very disappointed in the rice... because it was a bit mushy (perhaps cooked with too much water). Service was good. The servers were very friendly. Make sure you park in the garage. Kacha is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the East Bay. They are consistently good. We had the calamari for appetizers. Batter is light and crispy. We had the green curry with chicken and sizzling seafood hot plate. Both were deliciously prepared. Service is also quick and attentive. The interior of the restaurant is nice. We found Kacha Thai on Yelp, since WC simply has too many restaurant options. We've been coming to WC for shopping and dinner for years, but don't remember having Thai here. Kacha Thai is definitely an excellent choice. Its a large, festive restaurant with open kitchen and bar showing local sports events. The food here is legit - bold flavors and easy on the sauce the way I like it. Our selections: * Chicken Satay - Plump, juicy breast meat with a sweet and spicy peanut sauce. I liked the pickled cucumber salad as well. * Moo Yang Gratiem - Thinly-sliced marinated pork with some serious flavors. It was seasoned and seared so well you can enjoy it without the two garlic chili dips. The darker dip turned out to be sweet while the lighter dip was actually spicy! Go Figure... *Ginger Eggplant - This dish came with thin chicken strips and shrimp. Eggplant were cut thin and soaks up the ginger sauce and sautéed basil pretty well. * Seafood Madness - This is a mixed seafood sauté that's usually spicy, though we asked for medium spicy. Mostly squid with a few pieces of fish, shrimp, and maybe twi scallops and mussels. Good flavors here too, but portion wise it was small given the price. Service was friendly and attentive. Kacha Thai Bistro is conveniently located next to a large parking garage so you always have ample parking. The garage is free for 3 or 4 hours so save the hassle and park there. Upon entering Kacha, you could feel this was a higher end restaurant when it comes to Thai restaurants. A lot of nice upscale decor, modern, and a nice ambiance. No paper napkins at the dinner table here. The server immediately came to take our order and with 7 minutes ( I kid you not) the food was at our table. I was wondering if the chef had some sort of device to hear us talking and started our order while she was taking it! I ordered the Asparagus with Lobster sauce which had generous portions of shrimp, a few pieces of lobster bits which were about marble size, and a great lobster sauce which was delicious. The menu options are very different than a usual Thai restaurant and you can tell the inspired fusion combinations are different than what you usually find but I like that. There is the usual Pad Se Ewe and Pad Thai but get something different here because you can. Definitely a great place I will be coming back to soon. 5 Stars. read more

My husband and I ate lunch here today and we were very impressed. The service was excellent. Our server's name was Pong and he was very friendly and attentive. All of our food came out very quickly, and steaming hot. You could taste the freshness in the food and every dish was very flavorful. I really appreciated the fact that the restaurant was so clean, even though we ate outside, they sanitized the table right before they sat us down, and the silverware came wrapped in its own paper bag. Kacha Thai Bistro is located in the Olympia Place Shopping Center in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek. Its menu features traditional and contemporary Thai dishes made with high quality ingredients. The owner of this award-winning restaurant learned his trade at Manora's in San Francisco, a restaurant owned by his sister and a Thai food pioneer in the Bay Area. Aside from Kacha, he also owns Similan, another Thai restaurant, in nearby Danville. I came here earlier tonight with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. We had made a reservation prior so when we walked in at 6 pm, a table was already ready for us. The clean and spacious interior was elegantly decorated with beautiful paintings and art pieces. One caught my eyes. It was an elephant wall sculpture. I later learned that "Kacha" is elephant in Thai. Our server came by to introduce himself and to take our drink order. He was very friendly and polite. After perusing the menu for a few minutes, we ordered a plethora of appetizers, entrées, and desserts to share. Below is the recap. ***Appetizers*** Lady Fingers ($8) - Fried egg rolls filled with ground chicken and shrimp, served with sweet garlic sauce. They were very delicate. The chicken and shrimp mixture was seasoned well, which made a delicious filling for the egg rolls. Chicken Wings ($9) - The wings were dry and flavorless. The only taste basically came from the application of sweet garlic sauce. I didn't like it. ***Entrées*** Shrimp Pad Thai ($15) - Great balance of flavors with a noticeable hint of tamarind. Noodles were stir fried well. The average size shrimps were succulent. The raw bean sprouts provided a burst of freshness and crunch. Pumpkin Curry ($17) - Thai style red curry with pumpkin and chicken with sweet basil, bell pepper, and baby corn. The sauce was creamy and not too spicy. Large pieces of chicken breast strips were used and they were very tender. Lots of vegetables were used which made the dish look very full. Ginger Eggplant ($13) - Sautéed eggplant with shrimp and chicken in basil ginger garlic sauce. It was delicious. The eggplant wasn't overcooked and the shrimp and chicken were succulent. The flavors reminded me more of Chinese than Thai. Beef Shish Kebab ($17) - Marinated filet mignon cubes on skewers served with spicy chili garlic sauces. The beef cubes were more like strips. They were pretty tender. The sweet marinate was a bit overwhelming in my opinion. Some vegetables could use a bit more grill time. Gang Gari Gai ($13) - Yellow curry with chicken cooked in coconut milk and potato cubes, served with cucumber salad. The curry sauce was mild and sweet. Chicken thigh meat was used and they basically took on the taste of the curry. I loved the potato cubes. They were soft but not mushy. Moo Yang Gratiem ($13) - Grilled marinated thin slices of pork, served with chili garlic sauce. The pork was tender and flavorful. It had a nice smokiness from the grilling. ***Desserts*** We ordered the Mango with Sticky Rice ($7), Tiramisu ($7.50), Mango Panna Cotta ($7), Chocolate Fondant ($7), and Fried Banana with Green Tea Ice Cream ($7). Out of the five, I liked the panna cotta the best. It was smooth, creamy, and not too sweet. The mango sticky rice was pretty good also. The mango was ripe and sweet and the glutinous rice was had a nice coconut flavor. I did not like the tiramisu. It came out frozen. ***Drinks*** We ordered one Sierra Nevada ($6), two Thai iced teas ($3.50 each), and two sodas ($2.50 each with refills) Service we received was excellent. The staff was very attentive to our needs and checked on us frequently. The smile on their faces also left me with a very good impression. With T/T, our meal was $230. It's a bit pricey but I thought it was worth it. The food was overall solid and the service was exemplary. This is a good Thai option in the 680/24 area. I will definitely come back. Came by for dinner the other night and it was an interesting experience. This is more of an Americanized Thai restaurant with staff that seemed to be ready to close towards the end of the evening... Started off with the tom yum prawns which was decent. Flavor was ok and prawns were of a decent size. Satay chicken breast was impressive as the chicken was juicy and fresh. The skewer sizes were more Americanized vs. the traditional tiny skewers that are found in Asia! The pad khee mao pork was challenging with dry and flavorless pork and a dish that wasn't well seasoned... ...I'm not sure I've seen all these interesting vegetables in my Pad Khee Mao in Thailand! read more

I'm a big fan of Thai cuisine and always wanted to try Kacha Thai Bistro. Well today was the day! Tonight was Yelp's Big Night In 2.0 and I wanted to support a local business for dinner. I placed my order using DoorDash's takeout option. Parking isn't the greatest in Downtown Walnut Creek. We didn't want to use metered parking so I had my daughter park at the nearby bank while I quickly picked up the meal. Once inside the restaurant, my order was waiting for me on a table with my name on it. The woman smiled and said, "Enjoy your meal." We chose chicken wings, Tom Kha soup, green chicken curry, grilled marinated pork and chicken Pad Thai. Everything was flavorful. I especially enjoyed the marinated pork with the nice grill marks. The accompanied sauces were spicy, zesty and bright. Yum! Although the Tom Kha was full of tender chicken, there were big pieces of galangal that should have been removed. I accidentally bit into one thinking it was chicken but it was hard like a small bone. I'd love to visit Kacha Thai once we can dine-in again. A friend suggested I order the pineapple fried rice next time. 1/29/22 Overall I liked the ambiance which was somewhat modern and a little hip. I guess they are going for "modern Thai" but I'm not sure they did the best job with the food... 1. Ahi Tuna Larb $16 "seared ahi tuna in roasted rice powder, chili, and spicy lime sauce with a touch of fresh mint, onions and plain organic yogurt": So, this was more like poke than probably what you'd be picturing in your head. I didn't even know the ahi was supposedly seared until writing this review and seeing the description. It tasted pretty much like raw tuna, diced up poke style. That said, I liked it--very spicy and somewhat creamy. I also like the red chips it was plated on top of which had a nice doritos taste to them that matched well with the spicy poke. 8/10 2. Goong Gra Bok $11 "served 5, deep fried marinated shrimp wrapped with egg roll shell, served with sweet garlic sauce": Super disappointed. First off, their English description is written wrong. The way it reads it sounds like they wrapped fried shrimp inside of egg rolls, but what they really mean is that the shrimp was not specially prepared, but the egg rolls are fried. So yeah, there were 5 tiny rolls of shrimp wrapped in wrappers, fried up. And tastes just like that. Nothing more than that, except they were a tiny bit burnt. 2/10 3. Ped Yang $18 "slices of roast duck, served with sweet spicy black soy sauce": Tasted pretty much like Chinese roast duck, but 2x as expensive for the portion. 3/10 4. Pla Muk Pad Ped $21 "sauteed calamari in sweet basil spicy chili sauce with bamboo shoot": This was kinda wrong too--pretty much "home cook" level cooking here. Funny thing is with the calamari sliced so thin we all thought they were udon noodles! But anyway, it's just sliced calamari stir fried. Tasted fine, but totally nothing great. 3/10 5. Pad Kee Mao, Beef $15 "pan fried thick rice noodle, garlic, basil, chili, egg, and vegetables": The noodles were mostly broken. Nothing particularly special either, but the chef did a poor job prepping the noodles and ended up making a pile of broken noodles. 3/10 6. Bangkok Rib $24 "grilled marinated baby back rib with Thai style sauce, served with steam vegetables": I did like this, but again, it tastes nothing like what you'd think from the description. The ribs don't have any particular marinade flavor--but they are certainly extremely charred, in a good way. The char is the flavor. The sauces were thin and dipping isn't as effective as simply pouring the sauce over the meat. Portion size was okay, but it's less than half a rack. You get 5 pieces, generally on the meatier side. 6/10 7. Brown Rice $3: PERFECTLY cooked brown rice. Each kernel is distinct and the whole thing managed to be fluffy despite typical brown rice texture. I wouldn't consider Walnut Creek the epicenter of ethnic food in the East Bay, but Kacha is a decent option if you find yourself craving Thai while shopping in downtown. I've been to Kacha several times over the last few years during lunchtime, and I haven't been disappointed with their lunch specials yet. I'm inclined to believe that rice plates ($11-15 for entree, rice, side salad) might be a better value than the combination plates ($15 for two items, rice, salad, soup), as portion sizes are understandably smaller than what you might find at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. For instance, if you were to order a curry as part of a combination special, you'd likely only get a small bowl with a few pieces of meat and vegetables, as was the case on my first visit. That works fine if you're just looking to taste a variety of things, but you'll be disappointed if you're expecting extra large portions. More recently, I ordered the pad prik king ($12), which featured a healthy mix of sliced pork and green beans in a spicy sauce. It wasn't the best version I've tasted stateside, but it satisfied my cravings. My friend was satisfied with his pad kee mao ($12), and from a brief taste test, I can confirm that it seemed fine. A la carte / family style might be the best way to go if you're looking to try a lot of things. The restaurant has a nice ambiance, as one might expect from something located in downtown. It's modern. It's airy. It's trendy. The staff is friendly and efficient. Free parking is still available in the Olympia Place garage. read more

Thai food for a date night sounds perfect to me! I made reservations through the phone for 7:30. My husband and I make it in by 7:30 but had to wait about 15 minutes until our table was ready. We were seated by a nice area and our waiter was great. We didn't know what to order because there was so many delicious options. I don't remember the name of the dishes we had but all of them were good. We ordered a dish that had chicken drenched in peanut sauce and pomegranate, the second dish was veggie thin noodles, the third dish was beef with peppers, the fourth dish was the papaya salad, and last dish was the beef skewers with peanut dipping sauce. I loved the papaya salad it had a nice tangy kick row it and the beef with peppers was really good. The beef was tender and seasoned very nicely. We also ordered dessert and got the sweet roti with green tea ice cream and that hit the spot. Overall, everything was amazing! The service was great and this place is so cute! Got take-out the other night and it was pretty good. We had rice, curry and roti which was such a small serving, pad Thai which was good, and Thai Ice Tea which was not as good as it usually is at a Thai restaurant. It was bitter. The service was good and the items were packed very nicely. I wouldn't go back but I wouldn't tell people not to go either. I love Thai food so much and have the best places in San Ramon and Dublin to compare with so it is hard for me to like another place, I guess. Now that I live in Walnut Creek, I want to find a new place but Kacha is not the one. It is still good but not great. read more

Good food, good service, and good location. You can park in adjacent parking garage, and take stairs down to the restaurant off of Mt. Diablo. Every time I scan the menu, I am attracted to the lovely hearty soups. We have had the Tom Kha Talay several times and is consistently delicious. Thai spices in coconut soup, with combo sea food (scallops, shrimp, fish). Comes heated on a burner. Have ordered the lady fingers as an appetizer, was crispy and crunchy. Also had the Pad Prik King with chicken (non GMO) with green bean with chili sauce :) very good. Service is good & friendly. I really like to support local businesses so I Will def be back again. The food was great and full of flavor but the service was awful. I went when it had just opened and it was the slowest service ever. Waited 25 minutes for water and Thai tea and by the time it came out to the table so did the food. The waiter kept questioning why we didn't want to order rice and when we replied we were okay we didn't want it 3 different times he rolled his eyes like it was a problem for him we didn't want rice. After the food was brought to the table all staff members disappeared to the back which was odd. Sad to give 2 stars but the service was not good at all. We ordered chicken satay, Tom Kha soup i can't 100% remember if it was Tom yum but anyways, generals plate and pineapple fried rice. The chicken in the soup reminded me of canned chicken meat. The flavors were good but i wish i didn't order the chicken. My favorite dish was probably the Thai ice tea and the chicken satay. My mom and I tried this place a few years ago when I visited during college, and we had a pretty delightful experience. So we decided to have Kacha again for dinner recently, but we were highly disappointed this time around. The dishes simply did not taste the same as before. Maybe the chefs changed over the past 2 years..? Every dish we ordered was below par. The shrimp pad thai was flavorless and lacked depth. It tasted nothing like what they used to serve. The whole striped bass (pla rad prik) was pricey and wasn't worth what we paid. It smelled wayyy too fishy. Most places take the step to eliminate the unpleasant fishy odor but they did a poor job in doing this. Pra ram is one of my absolute favorite Thai dishes, but what they served at Kacha did not hit the spot. The restaurant interior is very nice and deserves a 4.5 star, but the food... not so much. I probably won't be going out of my way to order food from this place again. read more

Located near Broadway Plaza and the AMC theater in Walnut Creek, this is an excellent Thai restaurant option where the service is efficient and friendly, and the food is pretty consistent and solid for traditional Thai options. We've dined at the restaurant (they do check for vaccination status) and also done take out multiple times, with ordering through their own online restaurant site. Their online ordering system was easy to use and they give pretty accurate estimates when food will be ready. We love duck, so we usually get either their roasted duck with spicy dark soy dipping sauce or pineapple duck curry to enjoy over jasmine or brown rice. These duck dishes are very good, although sometimes they can be a bit salty and the duck a little dry depending on the day. The ginger basil eggplant with chicken is another favorite, along with their pineapple fried rice. The shrimp pad thai includes pleasantly chewy noodles with pretty large shrimp that are usually not overcooked, along with firm tofu and topped with bean sprouts, shredded carrots and peanuts and a lime wedge to add some acidity. The fried shrimp "lady finger" appetizer is also one that we get frequently too. Prices are on the higher side compared with some other local Thai places, but we like the quality and general consistency of the food, their restaurant environment, along with the service. read more

We've been coming to Kacha for a number of years and it's one of the best Thai spots in the Bay Area. We were celebrating a birthday and were able to get a reservation pretty easily. Ordered the lamb hot plate (meh), beef kabobs (yum!), curry, fried rice, rad na - flavors were on point! The minus 2 stars are simply for the terrible service. We sat down at 7pm and at 7:30 I finally had to wave someone down to take our drinks order. Our server barely checked on us. Dropped off the dessert menu - didn't come back for 10 mins. Dropped off the check and didn't bother coming back till we waved her down again. Since we were celebrating a special occasion, the service could have been heck of a lot better! read more

The decor inside is beautiful and the service is top-notch as well. During my visit, I was greeted, seated, and had my order taken all in less than 10 minutes! They definitely understand some people are on a time crunch for lunch, because a lot of local businesses are nearby so employees tend to stop by on their lunch break (including me!) Moving onto the food, WOW. I've ordered the chicken pad Thai, yellow chicken curry, papaya salad, and the roti and curry appetizer. I'd give everything 5 stars! Everything was cooked to perfection, and the portions are great for their lunch menu too. I'm sad cause I really wanted to like this place. The prices were a bit expensive but it's understandable since it's a pretty spacious restaurant with beautiful decor in the heart of Walnut Creek. I got the lunch special with green curry and chicken satay. The green curry was 60% veggies, 20% chicken, and 20% sauce. When I poured the tiny cup of curry over my rice there wasn't even enough sauce to cover most of the rice... it was mostly just bell peppers and other various veggies. The actual bit of sauce i did get to taste was very watery. I could barely taste any coconut! My boyfriend got the pad graopao and lady fingers as his meal. The lady fingers were very average, it tasted like any other egg roll esque appetizer. The pad graopao was flavorless and very soggy. The only really *edible* part of this meal was the satay. The satay & the sauce it was served with was absolutely divine! For the price we paid I would say it definitely wasn't worth it. Delicious Thai restaurant with amazing ambiance! The interior is well decorated with touches of Thai artifacts and the servers are dressed in traditional Thai clothing. I would considered this restaurant to be in the upper middle range, not casual, but not super fancy. There is plenty of seating and I love the high ceiling making the restaurant feel very spacious. There is also free parking in the back. I wish I took notes as I ate so I could describe each dish more in detail, but I remember everything we ordered tasted great. We got the Papaya Salad, Pad Kee Mao and Pad Thai. I came with 3 friends (so 4 people total) and we first thought 3 plates wasn't enough so got another Pad Thai (yes it was that good), but then we were way too full so I guess you can say the portion size is good. After living in WC for nearly 3 years, we've been saving Kacha for a date night and finally decided to stop by this weekend for an early-bird dinner (5 pm). We were surprised to see the place almost completely empty, but went ahead and took a table. The decor of the place puts it on par with the dates, grad parties, and business gatherings we saw happening around us as the dinner hour hit. A large, arched mirror over the bar makes the whole place look much larger than it is, and is a great effect. Service exists, but doesn't offer much beyond that. We never had anyone stop by to ask if we were doing okay, it was just the standard Take the order, Here's the food, Clear the plates, Here's the bill. Given the vibe and general ambiance, I was expecting a little bit more. The food was about 40% more expensive than the places we usually enjoy in the Bay Area (Vanda Thai in WC, Imm Thai in Berkeley), and while the serving sizes were great, the food wasn't especially memorable, though the Green Curry ($13) was delicious. Having some more chicken/vegetables in it would have made it perfect. The soup I ordered was really bland, and the Curry Puffs weren't worth the $9 they cost. In all, it was an acceptable meal, but given the quality and relative cost of other places in the area, I can't imagine us immediately coming back. If you're looking for a nice Thai place downtown to bring guests or have an event, I would recommend ordering a bunch of the curries at Kacha and sticking to that. Cheers! read more

Food: Lunch special is awesome. I was able to choose two entrees to go alongside my choice of white or brown rice, salad, and soup. I loved the yellow chicken curry and beef with vegetables. Great value. So tasty. Ambience: love ! Happy hour: can't wait to return to give this a try! The menu for cocktails and food looked great! Service: Amazing. All very attentive and welcoming. I came on a Monday afternoon ( first time visiting this place). They have many options of food, I order Papaya Salad, Pad Thai and Pad, See Ew. Papaya salad was really good ( Sometimes you can decided how level of spicy you want it but I didn't see the option) so It came out regular ( no spicy) which was still pretty yummy. read more
