Had a friend suggest this spot for dinner tonight, and I'm so glad she did! The food was fantastic, the service was prompt and very friendly. We started out with the Asian pear mule to drink, which was tasty and refreshing. We couldn't decide on which appetizers we wanted so we ended up with 3 to share. We got the Vietnamese egg rolls (more like a large fried spring roll), dumplings (got ours fried), and the shrimp and pork spring rolls. (also know as summer rolls at other local Vietnamese places.) These dishes were all great and had perfect dipping sauces with each dish. For dinner I got the Bao, with one each pork belly, chicken & shrimp. These are like small steam bun meets taco, and they were perfect! My friend ordered the Bahn Mi with BBQ pork. I was slightly jealous of that tasty looking sandwich! To be fair, I had food envy looking at all the dishes being brought to other tables...which is why I know I'll be back! Last tip, this restaurant is in down town. This means the parking is awful. Carpool if you can, or Uber is even better. I don't think the location will ever keep me from dining here, but the lack of parking is something to keep in mind. read more

Went here to grab lunch with a few friends. Very nice and cozy place. Although the service could be a bit better. We were greeted and seated within 5 minutes of arrival. After waiting for 15 minutes with no water or drinks, one of the waitress came. Before taking our orders, she legit threw our straws on the table, that was very uncalled for. We ordered 3 appetizers, a bowl of pho, a vermicelli noodle dish and a broken rice platter. When our food came out, the same waitress kept pushing all of our plates around the table, like she was annoyed of us for not finishing our appetizers before our main dish came out. Had a larger number of items than usual but everything looked so good. I ordered the vermicelli noodle bowl with grilled chicken which had lots of crisp veggies. Hubby had a fried rice. Both of us really liked. We also got the steamed dumplings, the steak skewers and the spring rolls. The rolls were enormous and very filling. We ended up taking half of our meals home as left overs which we greedily ate for dinner later that day. The restaurant is very nice, bright and airy and there is a also a cool little bar. Ordered stir-fry and noodle dishes with tofu, plus egg rolls. I think we ordered wrong because both dishes were light on flavor, tasted very similar when I don't think they should given their descriptions? Also the person on the phone said she could not remove egg from the fried rice, since everything is prepared beforehand. I thought that was odd, but I will say I am not very familiar with Vietnamese restaurant culture. It is possible that it's not necessarily fair to judge a place on their takeout ware. However, it is jarring to come from out of town and to see how much styrofoam, plastic, and paper waste was used in packaging such a small amount of food. It was nuts to me. i've been about this place lately & there's a good reason why. downtown continues to find ways to add new restaurants in areas that lack such. kai's in a perfect spot, across from a brand new hotel & caddy corner from the mayo. i ordered from the vegetarian section on the menu & got the vermicelli with tofu (v4) & it was JUST what i needed. the noodle bowl comes along with lettuce, fresh herbs, cucumber, bean sprouts, roasted peanuts, scallion, carrots & daikon. between the vegetarian fish sauce & sweet soy, i went with the fish sauce. real light & refreshing while at the same time very filling. more than enough tofu. the fish sauce stole the show, i don't recall fish sauce tasting that good, HIGHLY recommended. imagine a spring roll being a bowl, that's the best way to describe it overall. the employees were very attentive. i look how it looks indoor along with the patio seating. i like their bar & that they had a nice size tv on deck. a VERY wide selection on their menu, a lot to offer. check them out. read more
