My first time having Kamisama and I was hesitant with getting it because of all the reviews, but I was feeling Ramen today and I didn't want O Ramen so I was like why not. I ordered a simple tonkatsu ramen and the wait was a little bit longer than usual but I think it's because the ramen itself is thicker than usual. The staff themselves are SUPER friendly which is great. This would get 5 stars but the broth wasn't anything special, it was pretty simple actually and the spice I asked on the side to make my broth spicy was an Asian chili sauce you can buy at the store. When a person is obviously still working on his/her food, it's quite rude to ask if a container is needed even after the server was told the first time that we were still working on it. My first experience here was really nice, the soy ramen was really good and I enjoyed it. I took my mother there and she ordered a miso soup and a roll, I had the pan fried yakisoba with beef. When she got her miso she asked the waitress if there should me more tofu in her soup and informed her that there was only two very small pieces, but the girl said no that's how it comes. I mean, it's only allowed to have two pieces of tofu in it? Without asking, my mom was allowing the waitress to fix the problem, but she didn't so, she just left the soup as is. My pan fried yakisoba could have been good, however the whole thing was just oil. I understand it's pan fried, but by the end of my meal all I had was a plate full of oil. I mean, a ton of oil. Maybe I'm jaded because I lived where the top 10 ramen houses in the nation are, but I felt like this was just a step above Top Ramen. Not a fan.. I had high hopes for this place, especially since they have so many locations, but sadly I will not be returning. They were short staffed the day we went, I understood that the service would not be as good, but we spent too much time waiting for our server and our food. We have been here a handful of times and the service had always been okay. Very slow and not attentive to customer needs but the food was good so we returned. Today however was a horrible experience. We went in with our young daughter and we were the only customers in the restaurant. Within a couple minutes of our ramen arriving my daughter accidentally tipped the bowl and it spilled on herself and my husband. The soup was scalding hot! My daughter was crying and my husband had jumped up out of his seat since he was covered in it. Not ONE person came over to see if we were okay. There was an employee standing at the register and employees in the back. After about 3-5 minutes of us scrambling to dry off and me calming my screaming daughter, someone walked over to start cleaning up. Did NOT offer to make a new soup. Did NOT see if we were okay. As we were paying (for the soup that we didn't even eat) the girl at the counter said, "I saw that happen and didn't know what was going on." Really? You didn't understand two of your customers had just been burned by scalding hot soup? You didn't think coming over IMMEDIATELY to see if we were okay was an appropriate response? Then to not offer to bring out another and to charge us for it was just the icing on the cake. Horrible customer service. read more

My son recently returned from Japan and was craving some ramen; Google brought us here. My son informed me the ramen bowl with the udon noodles was extremely close to what he got in Japan. The quality of food was pretty decent as it should be considering it took 30 minutes to be served when it wasn't busy(245 on a Sunday). Service was very poor, something I'm really lenient on. the ramen tastes like it came out of a package, the decor is not Japanese at all, and I left smelling like deep fried food. far from the experience that I was hoping for but I guess what should I expect in Bakersfield. If there was a zero star, I would give them zero star. This is THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE you could ever get in your life. Seriously. There were ZERO WAITERS at about 0800 pm, one girl was handling d front, and NO ONE was available to us at all. After waiting for 15 min on a dirty table, I literally raised my hand, actually 2 hands so that someone could pls take our order or even drinks at least. No one paid any attention. And for God's sake it was not 5 mins before closing time. It was 1 HOUR til closing time. The blond girl in d front seemed to notice my hands in d air but did not pay attention at all. There was a couple who ditched d place before us with an empty table and menus left. No one was available to them too. The place was not busy at all, it was freakin' empty! I guess they decided to open d place not thinking that waiters are needed and that more than one person should handle the kitchen. Hungry and frustrated we left and vowed to spread d word about this God-awful place and to NEVER COME BACK. One advice-- DO NOT GO HERE. KAMISAMA RAMEN-) NO MATTER HOW GREAT YOUR FOOD IS, IF YOUR SERVICE SUCKS, YOU'RE STILL A SUCKY RESTAURANT. Very disappointing. Waited way too long for food that was far from good. Boiled chicken tasted like leftovers that sat in the fridge for a week, pork bone broth tasted like it was made from pork bouillon cubes or perhaps imitation pigs? They insisted it was made scratch, hardly tasted anything but gross. Fried rice was mediocre and so were the gyoza's. Servers were nice, but constantly trying to figure out how they were going to seat the walk-ins when people seated for over 45 minutes hadn't yet received food. One star is too generous! We ordered 4 teriyaki bowls tonight as a take out order and in the phone the guy told us it would be 20 mins. We took 30 mins to get there and when we got there the guy informed us that they ran out of chicken and he had sent his cook to go buy some at Winco. He could have called us before we drove all the way out there to get it to let is know. But that wasnt even the worst part. They took another 30 mins to go get the chicken and 10 mins to cook. We got no discount or I'm sorry for making you wait so long. When we got home we opened our container to a bed of over garlicky rice and bare chicken that had basically no teriyaki. I'm guessing they ran out of teriyaki too. The chicken had so much pepper you couldn't taste anything else. The bowls comes with veggies which were non existent on our bowls which I'm guessing they ran out of or forgot to put in. The front desk let us know that this sort of thing happens all the time due to bad prep in the mornings. I have to recognize a really fantastic first visit. The staff were personable, knew the menu well, and my food was served very quickly. I ordered the pork bone broth, with green onions and an egg. Took us a little while to check out this place since its on a side of town we don't frequent much, but it was absolutely delicious! My husband and I ordered the Vegetable and Tofu Ramen along with the vegetable gyoza. Mine was the perfect size for me, I actually wasn't able to finish.. But it worked out because my hubby finished it off. He has a big appetite so he said he'd just request extra veggies next time we come! I split my time between here and LA since I go to school there so I've tried many ramen places there and I'm so glad that Bakersfield finally has a ramen restaurant for when I'm in town. With that being said, I'd have to say that I'm kind of disappointed with this place. First off, I've never been to a ramen restaurant where you're charged for the egg. Every ramen place I've been to always offers it as standard. Also, I don't eat pork and the first few times I went there I let the waiter know to which he replied the they would gladly replace it with the shrimp tempura for free of charge. I didn't run into problems with this until like the 3rd time I wet back and an older waiter told me I would be charged the full $3 if I wanted to SUBSTITUTE the pork for the shrimp. Why would I get charged full price if I'm substituting and not getting it as an add on? Anyway I was super annoyed by this but I opted for the chicken breast which was free of charge. Big mistake because it was super dry and bland. Portion size is good and price is what I'd expect to get charged for a bowl of ramen. Overall ramen is just okay. I definitely plan on coming back since my daughter loves eating ramen but I hope the business owner pays attention to his customers. PS: I read the other review where someone said that the ramen contains MSG. I would definitely appreciate to have the option of not getting MSG if we don't want it. read more
