As we came in many tables were free and we were seated right away. Those eating seemed to be enjoying their food. We chose our own table and as the waitress came by, she noticed a small piece of straw cover that we did not and immediately went to wipe the table. The soup is $8 for just basic toppings and each add on is between 1-3 dollars with a five dollar combination topping consisting of three to five toppings including egg butter and pork. The waitress had a good balance of taking care of us and giving us space. Her name was Nicole. The ramen came out in around five minutes after ordering. It presented beautifully and we were impressed with the taste, electing not to add any chili siracha or soy sauce. I ordered the pork bone broth with fish cake, nori, egg, bamboo shoots with the free garlic and scallions it came with. The flavors mixed and it was so good! The noodles were the right consistency, not too tough and not over cooked. The warm broth mingled with the salty sea flavors from the nori and the fish cakes, the garlic lightly spicing the background notes in both the broth and the noodles. I came back a again and it seemed okayish?...I couldn't pin-point exactly what had changed but it definitely did... the food the service .. pretty much everything.. including their A grade in the window!...I decided to try one more time and THAT wAS DEFINITELY a BAD decision I noticed that this time ... by the time I got home which was 30 minutes away I was plowing they people to get to the restroom!!! I've driven past this place for years, always wanting to try it. The week of 5/15/2017 I went with an open mind and was blown away by every facet of the place! First off, it was clean and the perfect temperature. The lighting was perfect, and the music playing was current hits, but at an enjoyable and reasonable level. We were greeted almost immediately and with a giant smile. We were sat at table that wasn't too big (fairly intimate) but not cramped. We had four glasses for water and drinks the sauce container, and room for at least four large plates. The chairs weren't anything special, but I had no complaints about them either. I enjoyed the semi-open kitchen, the cooks seemed to enjoy their job but more importantly it showed how clean it was. The waiting staff never let my parties drinks get empty, and balanced the attention given to us impeccably ( the waiting staff was attentive without being over bearing.) The food was delicious. I had the udon noodles which I was warned were very spicy. They actually made my more mild, and it was great. Portion size was feeling without putting too much on the plate. I can't put words to how amazing the food was, because the taste was that good! I left thinking I needed to come back with my family. I came back with my girlfriend for a nice Sunday afternoon date, and had high expectations. I was greeted the same way, by different people but with the same genuine smile and eagerness to help. Every thing was 5 stars the first and second time I've been. I will becoming to this place minimum twice a month. *** I have stomach issues, but both times I are here it sat very well. Ordered the ramen with the miso soup, a deep fired pork. Additionally, add 6 dollars for a curry and rice. The noodle tastes incredibly good, the deep pork is not oily, everything is great. Except that the 6- dollar curry got no meat in it, that's a little disappointing. All in all, a very decent Japanese restaurant, worth to try! read more

I just went in today, the service was great. The waitress with the blonde hair was super nice and friendly. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and I asked if they could make it spicy. The broth was so delicious and the spiciness wasn't too overpowering, great balance. I also ordered a side or rice and 3 pieces of the chicken gyozas, however, the dumplings were alright, not much flavor to them. Definitely will be coming back. read more

The food was terrible the one on Calloway. My wife and I just wanted to try a ramen restaurant for once so we decided to go out the day before our anniversary. Never ever going to goto another one again, we ordered the ramen and both bowls looked good but when we started mixing everything together it started smelling like raw fish, at first we thought it was just the seaweed and the small fish cakes. NOPE, it was the whole dish itself and we had fish breathe till we got home and brushed, and rinsed out, so we agreed this will be the first and definitely the last time ever going there. There is such a great dynamic with the staff at this restaurant. They are very personable and they all seem to communicate and get along well. The Tonkotsu is truely the best ramen on the menu, but please do give the others a try. They have good prices for side items, garlic fried rice is amazing! I have never had a bad experience thus far. From the outside it looks very professional, the signage is finally up and the stylized Japanese man on it beckons you inside with his chopstick and his jolly thumbs up. Something about the decor inside still feels a little unfinished, though, as if they are still trying to find themselves. This place is tiny, with only six tables in the restaurant. There are two different raised bar areas, one facing the kitchen with ten tall stools, and another facing the windows with another ten stools. There is a flatscreen television showing a football game and people scampering about trying to service the customers as every table is occupied on this rainy Sunday afternoon (as are a few of the bar stools). There are raised dividers separating the tables from the bars which look like someone made them in their garage, very unfinished looking. Honestly, if someone stained them or painted them it would make all the difference. However... I didn't come here for the decor; I came here because fellow Yelpers that I trust have been extolling their virtues as the first AUTHENTIC ramen restaurant in Bakerfield and I'm willing to overlook a few cosmetic flaws to find out if they are correct. My companion and I start surveying the menu. On the back there is a brief history of ramen noodles in Japan. Now we're talking. I'm happily educating myself when our waiter arrives to our drink order and I have to scramble. My companion tells the waiter it is our first time here and asks him to give us an overview of how we order our ramen and what the various options are. He's young and untrained so he ends up just reading straight from the menu which is fine as the menu actually explains it very well. Basically, you can order your ramen with one of five different broth bases, shoyu (soy sauce), shio (salt), miso (bean paste), tonkotsu (pork bone), or an all vegetable and tofu ramen. My mom asked me to check to see if they had any menu items she can order (she's vegan) so that last option is welcome news. With every bowl of ramen comes noodles, green onions, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and two slices or pork (except the vegetarian version, obviously). You can add a variety of toppings at an additional price. The menu says "If you are hungry today please leave some of your soup and ask for "Kaedama" (extra noodles) Plus $1.50 and Extra Soup plus $2" So, let me get this straight, a large bowl of ramen cost $8 but they'll refill the broth AND the noodles for $3.50? I planned to take advantage of this incredible deal. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and added some hard boiled egg and nori (seaweed). I made it a combination for an additional $5 by adding 3 gyoza (potstickers) and rice. My companion ordered the tonkotsu ramen with the curry bowl and rice on the side. The potstickers and curry rice came first. The gyoza were done perfectly and the filling was tasty. It came with a tangy dipping sauce but they tasted good with or without it. I tasted my friend's curry rice which was good but nothing fancy. The ramen bowls arrived quickly and were very generously sized. The broth was full of flavor, well seasoned, and the perfect prescription on this gray and rainy day. There were plenty of noodles, and they didn't hold back on the pork slices on the top. My egg was sliced in half, making it easy to pick up with my chopsticks, and the slices of nori tucked in along the edge. It was a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds. I settled in to attack this large bowl of warm and tasty goodness. It was quite satisfying. In fact, I was so full by the time I could see the bottom of the bowl I lost all aspirations of tackling that "Kaedama" refill. Maybe next time. And there will be many "next times". Ok this was my 3rd try at this place. The new service staff got a whole lot better then the first 2 visits. Drinks were always checked on and the two servers were very friendly and nice, even when the place was busy. The ramen broth this time had more depth and flavor into it which is correct. The ramen noodles on the other hand does the broth no justice. The noodles needs a makeover. If they were Osaka style noodles then the broth would bind its flavor more onto them, not glide off so fast. The eggs also needs to be marinated in soy sauce and not so over cooked. If this place can correct its noodles and eggs they will definitely lock in this town as the first staple ramen shop in Bakersfield. So in the near future when other ramen shops try to set grounds in town they won't stand a chance for the ramen crown. read more

Worst experience ever! They ran out of almost everything they had to offer on the menu. Literally got to choose four things off the menu if that! Even the waiter had informed us they always run out of stuff. Not because the fact they are busy but because owner doesnt keep up with its stock orders! Very disappointed! The soups are really good, the appetizers are basic and the wait is horrible!!! My whole family finished their food and I was still waiting for mine for over an hour!! Half of the customers ate and left and I still didn't get my food! They waited like 30 minutes just to come back and tell me they ran out of what I had ordered twice?! If your not ready to open a business, then wait till you are! There was no excuse for this! I didn't even get to enjoy a meal with my family because they finished before I even got my food and waited on me to get my food! Finally I just asked to get it to go! I will come back in a year and hopefully they can get it together! I tried a little of my wife's soup and that's the only reason I'm giving them a star! Kamisama Ramen - Outside - Japanese Near Me - Bakersfield, California

So I've been to Kamisama several times since my first review. I've had mostly ups, and a couple downs. The place is always enjoyable, that's for sure. The tonkotsu broth isn't as consistent as I'd like. Sometimes it's a bit sweet, which I don't like. Most of the time it's fine, although I'd like something more complex, more savory, porkier(?). The chashu is good, I'd love a deeper flavor and more tenderness (and more of it in the bowl). I'd love if this place started stocking hot mustard leaves, or something different with which to heat up the soup. I'd also love if they had small combination sides a la Daikokuya (they do have sides, but they need work). The noodles are still good, but it would be cool if they explored Sun Noodle. The marinated egg is usually cooked well, if just a hair overcooked. These are all nitpicks, I just want this place to be amazing, because right now it's great. I ask everyone to try it. The curry tastes like what you get from the grocery store fresh out of the box. And the chicken teriyaki was so bland it was almost welcome after the salty Ramen, but no teriyaki flavor. When I opened the food it had a foul odor. We got the Shio Ramen with chicken and they top off pork slices. I looked at the pork and it had some dots, meat only has that when it's rancid. Went here on a Tuesday night and it wasn't busy at all. It was my first time and when my wife and I walked it we weren't sure if we were supposed to just take a seat or wait. They told us to sit wherever and we sat down and waited. We weren't sure what to do. An employee walked up to us and asked us if we wanted a menu but asked in a way that made us think we weren't supposed to have one. It was super awkward and I am the least awkward person ever. I told them it was my first time when they came to take my order and they recommended the pork bone broth. We also ordered pot stickers. They brought the pot stickers out but didn't bring us any plates. I'm cool with that but it made the table messy. All and all it was okay but to be honest I felt out of place the whole time. Came here a few weeks ago with several friends. The restaurant was basically empty and the waiter hovered awkwardly around our table trying to make small talk for way too long. The food took a reasonable amount of time to come out and it was nice and hot. Getting refills on our drinks was very difficult as the wait staff never came around after we got our food. So I figured after reading thousands of reviews on Yelp I better give back and finally start writing a few myself! Let me start by saying like many others that I am no Ramen expert, my vast ramen expertise ends at 10 for $1. With that being said we definitely enjoyed the food. We shared the Veg Ramen with a boiled egg and the udon noodles. Everything was fresh and the favors were really good. I knocked them down a star due to their struggles with being busy and being new. Service was friendly but slow, and getting seating was unorganized to say the least. They also made a mistake in our order, but quickly fixed it. I chalk the mistakes up to being new, but hopefully they get systems in place as I think their food is great, we will definitely be going back! read more

The Raman here is absolutely amazing. I had the pork bone Raman and went back the next day to order the same thing. The owner is a very sweet and funny man. The only reason there is even a star is because the miso soup Ramen was really pretty good. They just need to get it together. We waited for our food. Mine and our 2 children got ours so we started to eat thinking my husbands would be right out. We ate and his never came out. I felt bad so i gave him half of mine. But that's not all. When we first ordered our food we ordered a roll and curry rice 25 min later we were told they didn't have the curry and because the person who makes the rolls wasnt there so we had to order something else. It seemed like the waitress was running around but our drinks never got refilled. Several people came, ate, and left while we were there. To me I think they are not equipped to handle the customers and obviously communication is an issue because the poor girl didn't know what was in Stock. That is bad business and it shows a lack of preparation. I suggest going when it's slow and be prepared to wait and ask what they have first instead of going off the menu. read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I went here last night and it was packed and apparently they sold out. I can't see why considering I got not just one, but over 5 inedible chunks in my ramen. A huge piece of chicken cartilage, uncooked chunks of ramen, and other fragments of inedible chicken. The taste was okay but I will never come back here again because that was unacceptable. I told the waitress and she used the excuse that it was the last of the chicken. If they didn't have good food to put out, they shouldn't have served it. I was not refunded or given any type of compensation even though I could not eat my food. I really wanted to like this place and was excited about a ramen place popping up but I will never return here. read more
