I was absolutely thrilled to have an AYCE place opened up so close to my home! I had tried a lovely place in Centerville, and I was glad when this one opened. It is just a little closer to my home. I figure since they just opened there might be a few hiccups. There have been a couple in my last few visits. The servers have always been very kind and helpful. On one occasion, I don't think they realized we had been seated in their section. It took a bit to get some attention. The food is fresh and delicious! I really love how you have a constant influx of choices. The edamame was warm and flavorful! I loved every sushi roll we tried. The restaurant has some really cool little electronic carts that bring items you order from the menu directly to you! It was super fun having the little car pop up with our order. Kanji is a family favorite! My family and I have been here twice and we did the all you can eat both times. It is such a great value for everything you get. We always leave full and happy, and that's saying alot because we have a picky eater! You can find something for everybody on the menu from sushi, noodles, rice, hibachi, dumplings, and so much more. The quality of sushi is great, and I'm still in awe that you can order from such a large selection of specialty rolls. My boys go crazy for the conveyer belt and train that brings you your food. This place is a dream come true with both AYCE and conveyer belt sushi. I was wondering if such a place existed worldwide then stumbled upon this place on Yelp or Google Maps. My wife and I came last Friday night and it was busy and a wait for a table but two seats at the bar so we ate there. The conveyer belts go around the entire restaurant with small plates in the lower conveyer belts and a model maglev train delivering rolls and larger items. Busses do come by frequently during rush hour so we took one there but when it is not, it is totally worth taking Uber, Lyft, or Empower to and from a nearby Metro. The service is great and the seating selection is modern and great with some accessible tables for wheelchairs. Best of all, the quality of the AYCE sushi is unmatched which is not something I expected in the DMV area, having tried other amazing places in Seattle, Chicago, and Montreal. I heard about this place and wanted to check it out since they have an ayce with a conveyor belt and trains. We got there for dinner on Friday and it got packed quickly. You order on a tablet except for the special rolls for some reason you have to order through the waitress. We went on a Friday evening to celebrate my sister's and my birthday, and it was a great experience. The food was about 8.5 out of 10, and the service was a perfect 10 out of 10. Their miso soup is easily one of the best I've had at any Japanese restaurant. I also appreciated that they serve hibachi on smaller plates instead of one large portion--it lets you enjoy a bit of everything. Best to describe Kanji is Chinese buffet served in a partially automated environment with conveyor belt, robots and tablets. I said partial because you still need a server to order certain items like miso soup, drinks and special rolls. If you want to have quantity and don't care about quality, Kanji is the place to be. We went on a Friday night and shop was crowded. Had to wait 30m to get a table for four. Plates on conveyor belt were not presented well and empty most of the time. Also they actually time dining minutes on their tablet and I did not like that. Their sushi rice is not good quality (it breaks apart and not seasoned well) and they do put a lot of rice in each piece to make you full quicker. I wouldn't visit again because nothing really stood out to me and price isn't also competitive for what you get. read more

I wasn't sure about this restaurant at first. Their first month or so from their grand opening was rough--needlessly complicated ordering system through the guise of technological "advances", pouring refills out of 2-liter sodas, inconvenient system for removing plates from the conveyor belt, music way too loud. My husband and I swore off this place...until some friends of ours told us about "their new favorite all-you-can-eat sushi place" (I thought, "Surely they are talking about another place"?). They were shocked to hear our experience and convinced us to give them another try. I am happy to report that we go to Kanji (not on weekends...WAAY too crowded and an hour and a half wait time) at least three times a month. Their menus are no longer on iPads that need an employee to "unlock", even to look at what the ingredients are, but now simple, laminated, large double-sized menus with ingredients clearly written out. I personally do the ACYE without the sashimi (I feel like it is extra money spent on not a lot in return). I am pleased with the variety of speciality rolls, nigiri (the eel is my favorite) and mochi. Would love to see more protein items on the conveyor belt instead of sliced peaches (looks like from a can), cantaloupe and honey dew melon, but maybe there is enough of a crowd that likes fruit at a sushi ACYE place. This place is amazing and the quality in food is like non other. There are other all you can eat sushi spots in the Springfield/Lorton area but honestly this is the best spot. The menu is large and there's something for everyone. If you go in the evenings during the week the conveyor belt is on and on the weekends it's on during the lunch hours as well. The belt carries a variety of sushi, fruit, dessert and other options that you could also get directly off the menu if you choose. When you order off the menu theres a team that will either bring the food out for you OR there are these adorable meal trains that run above the belt and bring your food to you. Watching them move around is the cutest thing and they're so polite haha. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful and relaxing, they accommodate larger groups in addition to just solo individuals. Tablets for ordering were on the table and the sushi conveyor belt had some options. I couldn't wait to return. I returned a month later and unfortunately my last visit was not good. Hot green tea was served in those hard plastic soda cups, there were practically no options on the sushi conveyor belt, the tablets for ordering food outside of the conveyor belt were no longer available and they were short staffed making service slow because you had to wait quite a bit for the wait staff to arrive. The sushi did not taste fresh. We ordered the tuna sushi and the tuna was more of a tuna paste. It was a complete 180 degrees from our first experience and such a let down that we have no desire to return. Ambiance felt stressful and busy. We saw this restaurant on an instagram post and decided to try it out. We went there exactly when it opens at 5pm which I think worked out great for us coz after there was a line. First of the server was very nice and friendly, he explained how everything works since it was our first time. What's great is the conveyor is also included so you can try different things while waiting. It's a very unique place to visit. I almost don't want to tell anyone about this place, because it's that amazing. You walk in, and can be seated in a booth or at the sushi bar. Covered plates of awesomeness are already rolling by you on a conveyor belt: pieces of deluxe sushi (maki and sashimi), spring rolls, octopus salad (SO good), desserts, fresh fruit, noodles, other stuff) and you can just grab it. Like, just grab the dish, eat the food, stack your little plates and put the clear lid back on the belt, and it disappears. It's like Hogwarts or some stuff. Anyway, that's before the server comes, and it's gametime. You can literally order anything off the whole menu to be delivered to your table. A spicy tuna tower. Gyoza. Tataki. Chirashi. Tempura. Spring rolls. Wings and nuggets and fries (apparently). Several kinds of noodles. But mainly: ANY kind of sushi you can imagine. It's fresh, awesome, and a robot train car brings it to you. THE. WHOLE. MENU. is all you, umm, care to enjoy. You get a plate of fresh sashimi as part of your entry price, but if you want more (like me), it's only FIVE dollars for unlimited sashimi.
