The sliced beef was so juicy and tender. The mango fish was perfectly fried. I topped the fish with mango and it was so good, my mom couldn't stop eating it's I also got the basic pad thai noodles and silver noodle with seafood. If you are a seafood lover, try the silver noodle with seafood. I also got the Tom yum soup with seafood. The broth was so flavorful. I ended with mango sticky rice. Came here last Sunday about 50 minutes before they closed for the night. Took us a bit of time to find the place from the parking lot because there's no "big sign" on the building that you can easily see. Walking in, it gave immediate "home-y" vibes and they were very welcoming. I love small family owned businesses because you know you get to eat mom and pop recipes that are past down through generations. We ordered three items, 1 app, 2 entrees and they were all really good. - Chicken Satay Skewers (8/10) : served with 6 skewers, peanut sauce and a vinegretre cucumber small dish to balance everything out. Skewers were juicy, perfectly slides off the stick, and loved it with the sauce. - Thai boat noodles (9/10): my godddd, this was one of the better boat noodles I've had. Generous about of meat, which I appreciate because there are places that tend to be skimpy. Also, the brisket in the bowl was so tender, you can split the meat with your chopstick, amazing. The depth of flavor it had was perfect. The owners mentioned they're trying to re-add this into the menu since they were trying to perfect the dish, I would be so happy if they did. Only thing I recommend is to offer some additional bean sprouts and maybe some basil on the side. Everything else should remain the same. Tom yum soup (7/10): the soup was just like any other, however this place does have one leg up compared to others because the depth of flavor they have in their food. For the cost and the portion, I would recommend offering plain rice or noodles at no additional cost. The soup was good, but not enough as an "entree." Overall, I would return to try out the boat noodle soup again to check the consistency and try out a few other dishes on the menu. read more

Went here on a Saturday around noon with my wife after shopping at target in the same plaza. This place was empty but the menu had a lot of great options. We had pad see ew with fried tofu, Tom Yum soup with shrimp, chicken satay with peanut sauce, and a fried banana dessert with ice cream. Everything we ate was delicious, fresh, and bursting with flavors. Best Thai food we have tried so far in Costa Mesa. We had plenty of leftovers which we had packed up for home. Been wanting to try this place and there are so many items I wanted to try so I'm happy my family came to visit so that I can order a variety of dishes. This is what we ordered: Fried tofu BBQ pork spare ribs Nam Sod Kao Tod Chicken Curry Trio Thai Sampler Crab Fried rice Salmon Everything came out at a timely manner and service was great. I wouldn't recommend getting the bbq pork spare ribs, a little too fatty and there wasn't anything great tasting about it. Everything else was delicious, but especially the Nam Sod Kao Tod which was a salad, it was suprisingly the highlight out of all the dishes. I saw that a lot of people on their Yelp page ordered it and I could definitely see why. I would say the second best thing was the Crab Fried Rice, so flavorful. Unfortunately I didn't get to order the mochi ice cream which was another reason I wanted to go here but definitely will have to try next time because they have a good variety of flavors. Kanok Thai Bistro is a hole in a wall restaurant that claims to offer authentic Thai food where each dish is created from scratch. They've been opened over 3 years and has been a choice for some as a takeout spot for Costa Mesa residents. Atmosphere (2.5/5). The restaurant is small and seats about 8 tables. As you walk in, you'll see the kitchen and fans placed on dining tables to reduce heat. Friday night and half the tables were empty. The booth furniture was somewhat modern, but I wasn't a big fan of the mosquitos that bit me and gnat bugs flying inside. Service (3/5). We seemed to have different servers coming to our table. Although they were usually nice, it was awkward trying to flag someone down for something. I had to take note that the original server took a wrong order of ours. Although she offered to bring it back, my friend and I ultimately accepted it. I'm not sure who the gentleman with the headphones on was but he also brought out a dish for us. Food (2.5-3/5). There were some items that were spot on while others were mediocre. Chicken satay was surprisingly good for a lighter white meat dish that was accompanied with peanut sauce and cucumber vinegar. Red curry. Sweet and had good bell peppers and bamboo shoots. Coconut soup: Unusual taste and mediocre. Pad Thai: Mediocre and came with a minimum amount of herbs. As much as I want to support small businesses, I'm a bit hesitant coming back because the food we ate was adequate and uninspiring. This was such a great find on our trip to Orange County! The food was delicious. We got the yellow curry, massamun curry, pad thai, crab rangoon, fried wanton, and the golden pouches. I totally advise against visiting this place, I would even say that it should be avoided at all costs. My friend and I went there, we were very hungry. We ordered appetizers and main courses. Orange Chicken is served without rice and does not taste like this dish. The chicken in Pad Thai was hard, half raw, the sauce was disgusting. It was absolutely impossible to eat! We reported it twice to the waitress who came to the table. We left all these dishes on the table and asked for a discount on the bill. We were offered a free canned drink or a $3 discount on the bill of $66. Finally, 1 dish worth $15 was taken off the bill, we paid for the rest normally. And now ATTENTION!
