Had breakfast here on a weekend day. Was very busy but didn't have to wait too long. Very clean, staff was friendly. Food was ok. Thought the pancakes would be better.

Came here for brunch Pros: - The pecan pancakes are delicious, big chunks of pecan in every bite - The gravy for the Chicken and Waffles was well seasoned and had good chunks of meat - The cheeseburger was very satisfying - Place is very homey - Very friendly staff - Clean bathrooms - Plenty of parking out front Cons: - The chicken tender for the Chicken and Waffles were a bit dry and flavorless

I had the Country Club Omlette with Pancakes and my Girfriend had the Sausage Omlette with English Muffin today. We both agree the Pancakes are Great The sause on Country Club Omlette is not anything like Hollandaise I have had. It is not bad, just not Hollandaise. Girlfriend said Sausage Omelette was OK but worst English muffin she has ever had. Waitress was great and ambiance was good. Search continues for good Hollandaise.

This place is hopping and just a short jump of the interstate.

Definitely a reason why this place has been around for more than 3 decades. Good country cooking with solid flavors and wonderful service. Such a nice accidental find as well got off the internet for another place that was closed. Will add this to my scheduled stops when passing through Virginia. Highly recommend the Benedict's Cousin!

Our first visit to Kathy's started with us wondering if we picked the right place for a quick, light lunch. We arrived 40 minutes before closing ( we were traveling & it ended up being a late lunch for us) - they close at 3:00. We stood at the "please wait to be seated" sign for a few minutes before anyone acknowledged us, finally a customer (she must have been a regular) got up from the counter stool & said she'd seat us. We waited a while before anyone came to our table. But, once we ordered the food came in a timely manner. The grilled cheese was very tasty as was the vegetable beef soup. My hubby got a burger - his was good too. We decided to go back the next day for breakfast - it was a totally different scene! We were seated immediately, waited on immediately and our food came so quick, in spite of the fact that the place was packed! We both got pancakes - me pumpkin & my hubby blueberry. They were both delicious, they were so light and fluffy! Both were served with a cinnamon butter - very delicious! Everyone was very friendly & personable. The place was very clean, and I loved the decor. I would definitely recommend this place and would come back again!

I lived in Staunton for a few years almost a decade ago and was recently back for the first time since. There were a few places on the list to revisit, one of the big ones being Kathy's as it was always a favorite. Their breakfast is still great! Service is still excellent as well. And prices are almost the same as they were 10 years ago which were always fair! I always loved their bennies, but the crown jewel for me was always the waffles with bacon in the batter so I had to get that. It had a touch less bacon than I remember, but it was still great-smoky and sweet with a little applesauce and syrup on top. I added a couple of over easy eggs and was good to go. Definitely recommended if you're in the area.

Just an amazing place for breakfast. I'm no a huge breakfast person but this place is at the top of the list. The eggs are just so fluffy and fresh the best I have eaten in a while. The pancakes that come with the eggs are jus perfection. Great coffee too sometimes an after thought. Cool ambiance and good service

We were very impressed with Kathy's. The service was excellent, and the food was simple but really well done. The country ham portion was very generous. I mean, look at the pics I attached. Ridiculously generous. Eggs were perfect. Sausage gravy tasted like it was cooked well, not a hint of that flour taste you sometimes get. Grits were very good. Coffee was strong and welcome. What more could you want? Look, this is a simple place with basic American breakfast and lunch. But when a restaurant does a simple thing well, it is a really good thing. Kathy's does it right. Five grateful stars for a great breakfast.

The prime rib was cooked well, the mussels were flavorful, and the barbecue platter had a good variety. The service was great--fast, courteous, and attentive without making us feel rushed. The inside reminds me of a Chili's or Ruby Tuesday, but a bit darker. I think it's a nice atmosphere, appropriate for date night, a group, a family, etc. Our server (who has worked here for 3 years) was friendly and efficient. To start, we ordered a bowl of yesterday's soup special (She crab) and a small order of boiled shrimp. The soup was excellent, creamy, and with small pieces of crab throughout. The shrimp (six in the small order) were prepared well and came with a tangy cocktail sauce. The server brought over a loaf of their complimentary bread, which is actually three breads together in a single loaf. The bread was good (I preferred the dark loaf part) and came with a peach butter. We were told that the butters change periodically. The butter had pieces of peach in it (!) and we enjoyed the novelty. Our server mentioned that they also have a pistachio butter and maple butter. Yum. I ordered a salad with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing on the side. The salad itself was good - fresh, with crisp lettuce, tomato, cucumber, apple, almond pieces, etc. Then there was the dressing. Although I mixed the salad dressing in the cup before tasting it, when I did taste it, it was almost all oil with no discernible vinegar or other flavor. I kept stirring and tasting and nothing. So I abandoned the dressing. For entrees, my partner ordered the charbroiled salmon in herb butter with a side of broccoli. The salmon was prepared well and very tasty. I ordered the mahi-mahi, with the sun-dried tomato butter sauce on the side. The mahi-mahi was well prepared and tasty on its own. Honestly, I tasted the sun-dried tomato butter sauce and it was essentially whipped butter. I didn't think it added anything to the entree so I didn't use it. The potato came with butter and sour cream on the side. The potato was very good. Although we were full and not planning on dessert, the server came over with small cups of peppermint ice cream, calling it a "palate cleanser." It was very good and a nice touch. Other than the salad dressing and the sauce for the fish, it was an excellent meal in a nice atmosphere with good service. When we were leaving at around 7:00 pm, the line was out the door.

There are so many options in this lovely town but I made a reservation at Zynodoa because I have been on a farm-to-table kick lately. The servers and hosts were all lovely, interacting with both the guests and each other professionally and amicably. My server Sarah gave me as much attention as anyone else, even though I was the only person dining alone. I ordered the tomato and burrata appetizer. I am not a big raw tomato eater but I knew if these were truly farm-to-table, they would taste good, and they did. The flavor felt like a combination of sunshine and a warm hug! The cheese tasted like a sweet kiss. The portion was substantial, and there was balsamic reduction and a generous amount of coarse pesto. I ate the whole thing! For the main course I ordered the flat iron steak. Because I was traveling and didn't want leftovers, I asked the server for a smaller portion than listed, but either I wasn't clear or it wasn't an option--It's okay, though. I ordered the steak medium rare but it was a shade above rare; again, okay. Sides were good but I added salt. The meal was a bit pricey but probably fair given that it was sourced locally. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the chef is heavy handed on the sauces, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. Oh, I ordered the pinot noir and it was good, smooth, balanced. Overall impression of Zynodoa was it felt like visiting the home of a friend with a garden who loves to cook and share with her friends. The portions were generous and the seasoning was substantial. I highly recommend to anyone visiting Staunton.

The cocktail and mocktails were flavorful and well priced. Our waiter was great. Very knowledgeable about the menu, town and ingredients. We started with the Chicken Liver pate. This was well prepared, although I hate when a restaurant provides an odd number of toasts for two people. We asked for an extra piece and thought it was funny that they gave us exactly one. FYI- it comes with several accoutrements which were tasty, but the mustard was really the most satisfying. My wife had the brisket, which I would call a must have. Fantastic Asian spices, fried rice ball and Kimchi. Just an explosion of flavors. I was glad she shared. (This is uncommon) I had the pork chop and it was really pretty. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor and I had to carve off the fat which made up about 1/3rd of the chop. The bone was the other third...so it turned out to be a thick but modest cut. That said, it was on a lovely bed of mash and some of the best blue and white carrots I ever had. We finished with the carrot cake. (All of the desserts are made onsite.) which we learned was gluten free. Honestly if it was marked GF I wouldn't have ordered it. Anyway, when it arrived I thought we received the wrong thing. It looked like a decorative cliff bar. Once we took a bite we were blown away by the flavors and texture. It was delicious. Such a great experience. We were near the kitchen, so we got to see the head chef get orders out. There were some highs and lows, but the overall experience was really nice.

When we walked it we were overwhelmed with choices. The menu takes up an entire wall and there are sweet, savory and traditional meals to choose from. I'm sure no matter what your preference is, you will find something that meets your palate here. We chose the chorizo, egg and avocado waffle and my wife had the wiskets (waffle+biscuits) and gravy. So this is where things started to become a little disappointing. The staff pointed us to an electronic kiosk to take our order, take a pager, and pay. Oh of course we were asked for a tip. (More on this later) We took a table and waited for our pager. We found silver and napkins at the service counter and wrangled those. When the pager went off, we went up to the counter and retrieved our food. So...the food was really well presented and designed for the Gram. It was tepid at best, and unfortunately, not really flavorful. The waffle was soggy, with more of the consistency of a pancake than a waffle. My wife had the wiskets and I'm not sure if the staff has ever had sausage gravy before, but they may want to try a different formulation. When we finished, we found the Dishroom where we needed to scrape and bus our plates. So if I have to ring up the transaction, seat myself, wait on myself and bus the tables, what am I tipping for? Maybe I'm just salty because we were very near $40 for a mediocre breakfast for two, but the tipping thing just feels a bit tone deaf.
