What a roller coaster. My experience here was rather garbage and I came in expecting to have a great time. Let's just list some things I noticed. 1) the ceiling is rotting 2) the staff is overworked, they couldn't handle all their tables and wernt able to be attentive because of that. They tried and did their best, I don't blame them for my experience, 3) hair in the coffee, is it mine? My hair isn't that short idk but I found a hair in the coffee, it happens, 4) was told 20 min in my order couldn't be completed, and ordered a different entree, only to be getting the original entree without half of it. And was charged full price. It was not good food, the waffle with any topping or fruit or nut are just waffles with that sprinkled on top. Pecans on top of a waffle. 5) no fire sprinklers in the entire dinning room, I'm confused and honestly looked Not the staff's fault. They were very nice and helpful. Just a little overworked and stressed with their workload. Needs management shift. read more

While visiting family in Waynesboro, we started searching for a place for breakfast. I came across Kathy's Kitchen & off we went. What a great decision! An enjoyable belly pleasing experience from beginning to end! Their pancakes, French Toast, Eggs Benedict. Grits, baked apples, bacon, coffee & atmosphere were all fantastic. Half of the restaurant is "diner style" which we were seated. Carol was our waitress and was wonderful! She took us for a tour of all the neat decor throughout. Perfect place for a down home southern breakfast where the locals go. Chicken and Pecan Waffles and sausage gravy are amazing. Ask for sliced bananas on the side and load on the maple syrup. Farm omelets also good. read more

Lovely surprise in downtown Staunton. Clean. The food and service here is great. We had great biscuits (best), tenderloin & bacon. A thumbs down to the lady working the register. She was coughing, eating at the service counter, licking her knife, & touching food plates-but never washing or even sanitizing her hands. Amazing. Wife had Fried Clams with salad and Fried Squash (a Heather suggestion) that we're excellent. We have found a Go To Place for when we travel in the area. My sister had to buy everything as a side because they don't have breakfast that contains sausage, home fries, and pancakes all in one. I'm local and go for breakfast every so often. they never disappoint, whether the standard eggs over easy and bacon and toast to exotic omelets and pancakes... everything is always great! Service is great, fast, coffee always refilled fast by the Ednas. They always accommodate off the menu orders and changes like add a little cheese, please... This place is amazing. Gabriella hands down is the best waitress we've had and that's an understatement. She is the sweetest and it's so refreshing to find people like her in the world. My family's favorite breakfast spot! The epitome of a hometown restaurant/diner. Great food, friendly atmosphere, and great staff! Everything is cooked to order. Very sad that, due to staffing issues, they have had to start closing at 3:00pm. Wife and I enjoyed very much going to dinner there on some Friday evenings. Traveling thru the area so the three of us stopped in here for breakfast. The menu has a good selection of items but we knew we were in trouble when all the tables around us were not getting their food or items were missing. We ordered an omelet, a waffle and corned beef hash & eggs. We waited for our food for over 45 minutes as tables that came in after us ate and left. We kept asking our server and were told "your food is on its way" 3 times. Finally the manager came over and said that because of take out orders & 2 cook lines it was really slow. When our food finally arrived nothing was hot. The butter on the toast never melted, eggs were so overcooked they were hard. Needless to say we will keep on driving if we're ever in this area again. If we could give it zero stars we would! Don't understand its 4 star rating at all!!!! read more

$12.62 for a lunch special that did not include tip or a drink I ordered the chicken fried steak lunch special and a glass of water. I asked to confirm that it was cube steak for the chicken fried steak and was told yes. The steak was ground beef and not cube steak. It came with two sides I ordered french fries and fries apples. My plate came out and I was amazed at how small the portion was. I never finish my meals but I left hungry. Not to mention the steak was terrible grizzly chop meat. If it were not for the waitress whom was very attentive and kind I would have walked out. I left a cash tip but $12.62 cod a small terrible lunch with a glass of water is ridiculous. Then again, I like Dennys in Roanoke better. We love Kathy's! My husband and I were visiting Staunton for a few nights, and we stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. Surprisingly, the diner wasn't too busy at 11:30am, but it seemed as though their take-out business was booming! The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and inviting. The diner gives a warm atmosphere, and it is the quintessential diner look! And the food is incredible! My husband and I would both highly recommend the pancakes; they are large and fluffy and oh so delicious! The prices are all very reasonable, and the quality of the food is exceptional. Kathy's is your traditional diner. The front of the restaurant looks straight out of 1950 with the little booths, and a "lunch counter" type set-up. They also have a more traditional dining area in the back of the store. They will seat you in either location, just ask. The food is good, traditional home-cooked taste...but portion sizes tend to be a little on the skimpy side. However, for the money, it would be hard to beat. They have daily lunch and dinner specials for $8-9. Breakfast is $5-7 (which they offer during the early afternoon as well). Service is excellent as well - which would you expect from a small diner like this. read more
