The best place and family friendly. The food and set is spectacular. Everyone is so helpful and they have great knowledge of the menu.

Had this on my list for sometime to try. Finally took my wife here today and the menu and reviews paid off, so many great choices that it'll definitely be a place we return to again and again. What happened here? Was the regular kitchen staff off for the Memorial day holiday? My wife and I were disappointed with our food this morning. My Meat Lovers Scramble was flavorless, even after adding pepper. She was disappointed with her Scramble as well. We hadn't been here in awhile, but we always enjoyed our meals, we thought the kitchen was top notch when it came to quality and attention to detail. Somebody dropped the ball today. The service was good. The waitress kept our coffee mugs filled. The food, as mediocre as it was, was delivered quickly. I'm writing off today's experience as a, "it was a holiday, so the 'B-team' was in the kitchen", kind of a thing. read more

Server- Mary Greeted with strawberry chocolate chip mini muffins, a nice touch.... Pretty good would of liked them warm... Hey it FREE! This place would never be found without Yelp.... Hidden in a crowded shopping center... A little outdated, but you can tell they have their repeat customers... Resturant can be split into two sections.... When we were there there was a business meeting in the other section.... My Wife order the special... Mexican Omelet and I decided to order the Skirt Steak which was the reason why I drove up here from Elgin when I saw the picture on Yelp.... The skirt steak was amazing with the country style Potatoes... Skin on like it should be... Omelet was really good as well. The Syrup they use is really good and different from all other places we have been at. Drink wear is unique compared to typical breakfast places... Square top and much smaller coffee mugs which I love, more visits from the server and my coffee is always hot. Mary was the only server for 8 tables and never skipped a beat.... Came here for a Valentine's Day brunch with my boyfriend. Found the place by solely searching the nearest brunch place to my apartment and am so happy we found this place! I couldn't believe that the wait was only about 10 minutes (they don't take reservations). I got some variation of the Country Scrambler (after a long deliberation since the menu options were extensive and everything looked so good) and it was delicious! The pancakes were also sooooo good. They had a cute Valentine's Day specific menu as well. We will be back! read more

I rarely if ever write reviews but feel compelled to. I don't know who is rating this place so highly. I have been here 4 times in 4 years and everything about my experience has been consistently poor every time. My grandmother is a fan (...she's senile) so now and then I'll humor her since it's nearby. Here's today's experience. TLDR: Rude staff, cold food arrived 90 min after ordering, and someone needs to call the health inspector. 1. Walked in; as expected, it was crowded. The same person is always at the front, an older woman, and I remember her because she is extremely rude to everyone. Today was no exception. She snapped at the elderly woman ahead of us and when we got to the front she asked if we had a reservation. I pointed out that my 96 year old grandma, who was with me, had called yesterday and tried to make a reservation. She was told "it's not necessary." Then we arrive and you ask if we have one? And because we don't it's a 45 minute wait? 2. Upon sitting I noticed that the dining room was packed to capacity and no one had any food. We ordered intentionally easy meals - eggs and bacon - since the kitchen looked backed up. We waited NINETY (90!!!) minutes for this food. 3. There seemed to be no servers. Every 15-20 minutes a servers assistant (I.e. busboy) would refill our coffee. Once our server came by and apologized for the wait. After we received our food 1.5 hours later, she never came back. I flagged down another server for the check. 4. The food was ice cold! If the kitchen was backed up and working to crank out orders, presumably they'd be fresh and hot - why was it served to us cold?? At that point we were so hungry we ate it anyway. 5. Food quality is consistently sub par - seeds in the food, cheese sprinkled on a plate of pancakes, moldy lettuce... one time there was plastic wrap in my breakfast wrap. Today was again just terrible food... a slop of eggs and bacon on a plate. I get that it's a pandemic now and you're trying your best but did you not expect a bigger crowd today? Truly, how is this place still open with so many things consistently so wrong for so long??? I have never had such a reliably poor experience. Ever. Another Yelp search find! My office is over in the area and I rarely eat in the neighborhood. Tried to switch things up a bit and I'm glad I did! The place is very clean, everyone was wearing their masks and wearing them properly! QR code menus worked nicely and I ordered the Heuvos Rancheros Benny. Delish! Had a VERY bad experience. Walked in with my father and had tea because I have a sore throat. Was told "we don't allow outside beverages inside....becauSe of cross contamination" which I know is bullshit because it's not crossing with anything else and they want us to purchase a beverage from them. Also every other place I've been to that serves, breakfast, lunch and dinner don't have this "rule". So I walked outside to put my HOT tea in my COLD car. Then came time to order, I ordered an omelette which NEVER CAME!! She brings my father food and brings me some toast. She came by to ask how the food was about 8 minutes later. My dad asked where my food was and then said "he didn't order food" and then we both rolled our eyes in disbelief. Then I got charged for the toast. She was friendly and apologetic but that didn't help. She offeredd to have my order cooked up right away but my dad was already half way through his food. Although my dad had high hopes I would NEVER EVER RETURN. I wouldn't recommend it to someone starving. Sorry but thats just how I felt after going here. I was in Chicago because my daughter had a baby. We came right here after we got off the train. The lady who greet us was so warm and welcoming on a Saturday afternoon June 2. The food was good but it was something g I could made at home but loved my service and the restaurant. Felt like I was home with mom. The down fall is we went back on Monday June 3, the young lady that open the store was nice but. It as friend as the lady on Saturday. My problem with her was she continued to play with her hair and I have big thing about people touching their body being around food. She seemed to just get her hair done and she was excited. Please be mindful not to do it around peoples food. Other then that I would love to go back. read more

This review is long overdue. I've been coming here for years and have never had anything other than great service and food! Due to Covid, I ordered carry out breakfast this morning from them for the first time. I was skeptical as breakfast carry out can be iffy. On a Saturday morning, I expected a wait between 40 mins to an hour and to my surprise it was ready in about 15 mins!! The food was warm and delicious just as it would be dining in. My eggs were cooked to perfection and we even had a few modifications to the order which were all done. This place is amazing and deserves credit for ALWAYS keeping up to their standard, take out or dining in, especially during this hard time. Props to Katie's Kitchen!!! Wow, what an experience. I have never felt as horrible as I did today. Sitting in a table with no acknowledgment for 15 minutes is ridiculous. They obviously don't need my business. The worst part was the waitress telling the "owner" who ever was working as the hostess that I was crazy and then the "owner" asking me to go back and covering up and making excuses for the waitress. Again, the perception is that, that restaurant or maybe the waitress with the long blonde bob does not or will not cater to the Hispanic population. The service at this restaurant, especially on the weekends is atrocious. The owner of this establishment and her husband are extremely rude and condescending. The wait time they give you is often longer than they say and when this happens, there is no apology. Instead, be prepared to be given a "take it or leave it" approach. Id rather give my business to Elly's in Glenview, Rise and Dine in Wheeling or anywhere else where service is important. The coffee was also very good but my only complaint is that the coffee started leaking from the seam on the side of the cup, other than that I will order from here again read more

We got there Saturday morning and it was 10 of us and it didn't take long for us to sit down. Or server was nice and did good. The food was good and dessert was awesome. After reading all the great reviews, we had to come try the place. But we've now been here three times and each time I left thinking, "Well maybe it was an off day for them." I'm done giving this place a chance. One of my main complaints is the way they season the food. People raved on and on about the skirt steak, but when I tried it, it was way over marinated and too sweet. It was tender, but it seemed like they soak the meat in a sweet sauce for 3-4 days. 2 other people at my table also found it too sweet. The last meal I had was way too salty - in fact all I tasted was salt! I happen to like my food a bit salty, but this was ridiculous. I could feel my fingers swelling by the minute. The salty dish is called Stuffed Portabella Mushroom dish - Grilled seasoned Portabella mushrooms topped w. shrimp, spinach, red peppers, green peppers, onions & baked w. American cheese. Service is very iffy. Either the waitress asks if you're ready to order every 30 seconds, including when you just sit down, or she completely disappears. When I'm over in this part of town (usually to see my dentist next door) I always end up at Katie's. While I rarely stray from my regular pancake house, my husband insists that Katie's is better. To me it's really comparing apples and oranges. Katie's takes your classic pancake house fare and turns it up a little bit into something more chic but not too snobby. It's really more subtle and simple changes that make it a step above. Their menu is extensive. You'll honestly spend a lot of time trying to decide what you want because it all sounds so good. I've had the eggs benedict and they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I've had a basic breakfast, pancakes, french toast, scramblers.. you name it. Their potatoes are incredible and the coffee is spot on as well. I docked them a bit for the service. I was pretty much already sold after reading the reviews. I bugged my bf to bring me here. I got the garden nest (spinach onions mushrooms and green peppers) with a side of canadian bacon. yummy! and it was a huge portion! i barely ate half of it. My bf got the skirt steak nest and he gave me a sample of the steak. It looks unassuming from the outside in a little strip mall at the corner of Wolf and Central, but the inside is super cute, complete with a fire place and painted mural. While it's only been open for a month or so, one would think it has been open for years based on the quality of food and the consistently packed dining rooms. To put it simply, the food is phenomenal...better than any breakfast or brunch I've had in the city. I rarely stray away from eggs and bacon, but I dare you to try to find a better steak and eggs...anywhere. There are no words for the pure deliciousness of the steak. Extremely tender and full of flavor - quite possibly one of the best things I've tasted in a long time. The breakfast menu is fairly extensive; many of the items are traditional breakfast foods, but a twist here and there with unexpected ingredients makes them more gourmet and sophisticated than your typical omelet or skillet. Perhaps this restaurant is better as a breakfast place, it certainly has a nice atmosphere and what appears to be a strong following. But the menu is overly pretentious and the prices are not in line for the neighborhood, especially since it can't quite deliver on quality. If you go in looking for a run-of-the-mill diner, Katie's Kitchen fits the bill. Unfortunately, for a menu that waxes over cajun remoulade on foccacia or chipolte and garlic mayos, all at nearly twice the price of quicker lunches, it falls far short. My meal was a specialty beef brisket sandwich with a side soup, fries, and fresh baked beans. The fries were overcooked to the point of being chewy. The baked beans were a watery mess of beans, bacon, and bits of crumbled hamburger. The brisket was surprisingly well cooked, but marred by the sickly-sweet flavor of what seemed like cheap store bought barbecue sauce. The soup was a broccoli cheese which tasted almost entirely of corn syrup and potatoes and had the tell-tale sign of overthickening - when the spoon can be left in without falling over. In the reviews I've heard from co-workers meals here can be hit or miss. Perhaps if it had a menu that didn't overreach and more reasonable prices it would be more often a hit, but as is, this one was a miss for me. read more

Looked in Yelp for some help in finding a new place to try for breakfast and decided on Katies Kitchen. I had the San Francisco nest. Very good with asparagus, jalapenos, cheese, scrambled eggs and overdone chicken sausage wrapped in hash browns. My wife had an Italian that she didn't care for. Me.. personally...I don't like Italian sausage with eggs for breakfast and I think my wife found out she doesn't either, since she was picking it out of her nest. The meat on both orders was hard and over cooked. This kept it from a 4 star rating. We will go back and try other things on the fairly large menu along with specials on the weekends. read more

Friendly service, decent food. I got the meat lover's skillet and it was OK. The bacon was cut into chunks and it was very hard, like it was put in the oven too long. The eggs were cooked nicely. The pancakes were fluffy and sweet. My girlfriend had the steak burrito special and she wasn't a huge fan. The steak was nice and tender but it could have been seasoned more. The burrito as a whole had kind of a bland, sweet-ish flavor to it that wasn't all that good. It would have been great if they put some sort of tomato or hot sauce inside instead of serving it with salsa on the side. Next time I'll try an omelet or something else. It's a nice friendly place in the area with decent breakfast. It's slightly on the expensive side though. read more

This is a solid four-star dining experience. The parking lot is a bit small, so I imagine that could be a problem. The atmosphere is also really standard, like every Greek diner I've ever frequented. We were seated immediately on the morning of New Year's in a cozy booth. Our coffee was poured immediately and it was endless. My favorite kind of coffee, clearly. Our waitress brought over an amuse bouche of two mini muffins, which were delicious and welcome as I was starving. I ended up ordering the healthy breakfast option, which included nine-grain toast, scrambled egg whites, yogurt with fruit and granola and turkey sausage. It was excellent. Just the right amount of food and all cooked as I specified. One day, after I've run a marathon or something, I'm coming back for he peanut butter banana stuffed French toast. Damn. I really wanted to like this place because of the proximity to my house and the slew of positive reviews that made it a four of five stars restaurant on Yelp. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling it. We waited almost an hour for only two entrées. Our server looked like she was doing her best, but she just didn't have any help. By the time our food arrived, it was lukewarm. Clearly, the food was plated long before it was finally served to us. Why it took so long to get from the serving station to our table, I'll never know. Everyone was friendly, but wow -- when it's obvious the wait staff is overwhelmed, the manager shouldn't be sitting around gabbing with patrons. He should've been helping out the overwhelmed wait staff. The Skirt Steak Benedict I had was okay. The steak itself was very good. The poached eggs, however, were cooked too long. They weren't runny like they're supposed to be on a Benedict. The rest of the plate was pretty boring. We ordered a side of bacon and asked that it be prepared extra-crispy. It came out with the consistency of wet jerky. I ordered a side of corned beef hash. The (overwhelmed) server neglected to put the order in. Why she didn't write it down, I don't really know. Regardless, the plate didn't come out until we were almost ready to leave. I'm not really sure why everyone raves about this place. Normally I'll give a spot a few visits before I write it off, but this place just isn't worth the time. read more

I stopped in for the first time today as I noticed that the old Dave's Bistro was gone and Katie's Kitchen has taken its place. The atmosphere is pretty much the same as it was previously with the exception that they have now opened the shades to let the light in which is nice. The menu has a wide select of breakfast items and also a good variety of salads and sandwiches. The skillets are good with lots of fresh ingredients and the prices are pretty reasonable. Family managed and the service was very good. When I asked the lady at the register if she was Katie, she said "no, I am her mom" and then pointed out Katie who said "hi" as she was walking by with someones order. My first impression was a nice clean place to eat with good food and great service at a reasonable price. I hope they make it as I am sure to be a regular customer. read more

I don't know why you WOULDN'T give Katie's Kitchen a 5 star review!! The food is always really great, the price is right, and the portions are large and in charge. The breakfast specials menu is fabulous; I almost always order one of their new creations. And for sure, if you come for lunch or dinner, GET A SOUP WITH YOUR MEAL. The soups are always to die for. Sundays can be busy but the waiting time is almost never as long as they tell you. Friday nights are fun and BYOB... hardly anyone has BYOB in the burbs, so i'm glad they jumped on that train. Also, if you come on a friday night, get the coconut shrimp. Crazy good. I like being seated and finding out that Katie, herself, is actually going to be the server at my table.
