Well, I hadn't stepped foot into Katie's Kitchen in 5 years but our men's club lunch group gave it a try for a new weekday lunch venue. It was a lot more upbeat and vibrant than I was expecting and the place is very popular. I noticed it was particularly popular with several women's groups and that should tell you something - and that is, the restaurant is clean, comfortable, cozy, and has a decent menu. It's also on the loud side, and we'll have to see if some of hard of hearing members can make this place work in the longer run. As far as brunch, they have the full assortment of offerings and they are all fresh and good and reasonably priced. I had 2 eggs over easy with potatoes and pancakes for $10 - can't beat it! Service was quick and friendly also. Their space is also contemporary and airy and I thought it may have recently been remodeled, but my 2020 photos say it's the same decor from 5 years ago, but all is well maintained with a nice clean look. Thumbs up!

I really enjoyed my breakfast! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I really liked the menu. Definitely will be back! Got the steak skillet and biscuits and gravy. Both hit the spot. The were on Chicago's Best for the Huevos Rancheros. I almost ordered that; next time!

I got my Reuben omelette that I have waited for all year. I get this every March. It is very delicious. Great service by Katie and her crew. Our retired group meet here once a month and they take very good care of us.

We were in the area and looking for someplace new to try for lunch. Opened up Yelp and found we were minutes away from Katie's Kitchen. A hidden gem! Food was hot and yummy! Wait staff was very well informed and pleasant. It was busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. Great breakfast and lunch options. We met the owner. I had to stop and tell her how great the food was and just as importantly, how nice all the staff were. Everyone who made eye contact smiled. What a refreshing and welcoming group of people! We're going back!!

It came as a great recommendation! We didn't have it for a while since we live the low-carb life but were thrilled to learn they do a "sub in a tub". I love their tuna salad/sub. Their bread is soft, back when I could eat it. They don't overfill it with mayo either and add some mild peppers or hot on request. I like that they don't have onions at the deli so it doesn't overpower everything else. My husband typically loves the club. They rolled a generous amount into a container and I used scissors to quickly and easily cut it. It was a perfect lunch and I have enough for another tomorrow! For $8, or $11 for a generous tuna scoop, you can't beat it. Staff is also quick and friendly at the deli, as well as checkout. You can find all kinds of things for the house or to gift someone whether it's food, a cookie jar, something imported from Italy, or a homemade meal. You'll find something for everyone.

I followed up and called Big Ange's mainly to let them know about the missing BBQ sauce issue just so it doesn't happen to others or to clarify if customers are supposed to know to ask. I spoke to the owner Rocco and he said sauce is normally provided for the Barbarian platter, and it must have been forgotten, and he apologized. To make things right, he graciously offered a complimentary sandwich upon my next visit and took my name. Well, I was in the vicinity today and swung by. Rocco not only gave me a 100% tip-top delicious brisket sandwich, but also a side of potato salad, and a bottle of their BBQ sauce to boot! I offered to pay for the sauce which was such a nice gesture as well, but he declined. Wow! Rocco is the youngish and energetic owner, and the Eatery is actually named after his Mom. He's been at it here since they bought the property back in 2012. Great place, great food, and we will always be fans, and will visit again sometime.

Though a bit obscure and hard to find, those who want a good sandwich know where to go. There is a curated selection of Italian, French and German sandwiches. This was my first visit so ordered a Cipriani with Italian mortadella, marscapone(!), arugula, pistachios and balsamic. It was the marscapone that sold me, but this was generously portioned and (let's be honest) messy for me to eat because the sandwich was piled high. I had to take half to go. I heard a few orders for the Gusti dal Nord (prosciutto, Gorgonzola, arugula and pear), and that sounds enticing as well. The bread is fresh and crusty. They had a tomato soup the day I was there, and I read on the website that they have pierogato -- Eastern European dumplings.

The mascarpone was more like mayo or butter which I didn't like. The pistachios they add to the sandwich are literally pistachios which is odd. A spread or something would be better. The prices were very fair but we did have to wait about half hour to receive our order. There was one person making sandwiches and one person doing the payments. The place has crummy ambience. The interior is kinda gloomy and the music was loud and unappealing so it would be hard to have a conversation inside and there are two tables outside but they are right along the parking so, again, not appealing. The menu could be bigger and include maybe a couple salads or something else. We liked what we had but I think they need to do a little more to create a place that's really craveable. It's good to have a local sandwich shop option. It this place needs a bit more on its menu and a vibe inside to make it really something special for sandwich lovers.

Out of curiosity, I decided to check it out. Located across from the railroad tracks and near the Metra station, Dario's is a local institution that serves up tasty sandwiches and more. I liked their sandwiches options on the menu. The variety was good. I ordered their Fiesta Panini that's made with pulled pork, habañero aioli, muenster cheese, red peppers, red onions, and avocado. I wanted something to drink and I saw that they have homemade lemonade with cool, different flavors. I got me a small Guava Lemonade. My panini was freshly prepared. It had a good flavor w/ a nice kick of heat from the habañero aioli (but not spicy in the typical habañero flavor sense). The pulled pork was delicious in taste and texture along with the toppings of muenster cheese, the habañero aioli, red peppers, red onions, and avocado. I should've eaten only one half of the sandwich but I couldn't resist having more, so I finished it. The panini was darn delicious. However, my issue is that I went in with one other person and we ordered two paninis and two cans of sprite (one of each for each of us), with one salad bowl to share. It was $55 dollars after tax. Maybe it's me but it seems like a lot. The service isn't really a question here. It's not bad. They call your name, you grab your food, and bus your own table when you're done. Pretty standard. However, If they did that for you, the price wouldn't bother me as much because thats a proper service. To talk a bit about the restaurant itself, it's small with more space to eat outside than inside, but thats just lovely right now in the summer. The place looks clean too. They had complimentary coffee which was nice. The staff are reasonably young. Probably late high school or freshmen in college but that doesn't mean they can't do a good job. Overall, I don't know if I'd recommend this place to everyone. Im conflicted. I like big portions and quality foods of course, and this was great in flavor, just pricey. To reference the surrounding area, I can go here, or to Emits across the street which is consider the finest dining in downtown Palatine past the Argentinean Bendita and Bella Pizza, and spend around the same amount of money. Still the best panini I've had in a while though.
