Kaite's is a nice place in a strip mall in Des Plaines. Its well appointed and the staff is engaging too. Friend had crepes and I had the eggs benedict. Three lite and large crepes were simple enough. The EB was nice because the Canadian bacon was very thick - it felt like a real piece of meat. The hollandaise was a bit weak and runny. Hashbrown were on the skimpy side but crunch. All in all - nice place and pleasant - but not really memorable. read more

The food is super to an ihop or chain diner, and the prices are more affordable too. They were kind enough to split our shared order into separate plates which is always such a nice complement. I have eaten here several times for both breakfast and lunch and have always had good food and service. On my most recent visit I had their famous cinnamon swirl French toast with a side of bacon and my hubby had the chorizo quesadilla special and mom had the amaretto crepes. I noticed that they have recently remodeled to a more updated look- they have been around over 10 years so they must be doing something right. My husband and I were in the area and were looking for somewhere that wasn't Omega. Came across Katie's Kitchen and I'm glad we did! We were here on a Sunday around 11 am. Which was super busy but to be expected. We only waited maybe 15 mins. There is a wide variety of breakfast items. And things I've never even heard of! I ordered one of the monthly specials and so did my husband. I tried the Brussels sprouts scrambler and it was really good after I added salt. He ordered the cranberry chicken sausage skillet also needed salt. Both were good but very under-seasoned. Service was as good as it could be with how busy it was. I love the creativity's the menu! I wasn't impressed with their service or food. I came with 3 kids and asked the oldest to go inside and get us a table while my toddler walked(slowly) inside. By the time we get there, he's still waiting, there were plenty of open tables. We were greeted by our waitress right away and she seemed nice. She hugged the people sitting next to us with made me feel they come there often (they knew everyone's names). They serve muffins which I thought was very cute. I would have preferred them to bring it out with the food of after so the kids don't dig into those first. I ordered the veggie skillet, chocolate chip pancakes, and a letter pancake. I think it's great that they do special things for the kids, makes them love eating their food hat much more. Kids loved their pancakes (obviously they would). The skillet was horrible. I was out and about in the NW suburbs and decided on brunch. When I think of good, better than average brunch in or around Mt Prospect there's only a few places that come to mind quickly. Le Peep, Egg Harbor Café and Egg Factory Inc, the latter for some time has closed for business. Quickly checking the Yelp app on my phone, I was reading about Katie's Kitchen with almost ten reviews and each one is rating 4-5 stars. Brunch out here with 4 to 5 stars, really? I've dined in that area before so I know this restaurant must've opened recently. Katie's is located inside a strip mall and isn't easy to notice for those traveling northbound on Wolf. Thinking back I can't remember if there is a placard stating the name of Katie's on the main sign for the Wolf road Plaza. I don't typically eat at strip mall restaurants, it's a strange reason and it's because I feel that they are never homely enough. Its just a business without care for its patrons and if for some reason they closed their doors one day, you wouldn't even miss them. Well, Katie's is different and she's got something to say about this type of thinking. Personal touches all around, from the wooden seats and tables out front to the full size mural on the wall which all within the restaurant can admire. Ceiling to floor a lot of thought has gone into making Katie's a more interesting dining experience. I like it when a restaurant personalizes the food with the right flatware and dishware. I was having brunch so the plates my food came on looked to be inspired by a crepe maker, that's what my imagination leads me to think. A small crepe shaped plate held my single French toast slice and a large crepe plate held my superb Eggs Benedict. Just the right amount of Hollandaise sauce, that's something which usually lacks when I've had this at some other restaurants. For a Friday mid afternoon the place was 95 % full, looked to be mostly locals. Katie's may not be advertised much locally, if it was it would've been over run with the local corporate types being that it was a weekday. Great food, service was on the ball, waitress checked in every so often and my coffee cup was never empty. Reasonable wait time, prices and the menu offered many desirable items. Eggs Benedict, they carry 4 - 5 types and they have Pecan or Cinnamon roll French toast; makes me so happy. Another reviewer stated the brunch here at Katie's is better than any brunch place she'd tried in Chicago. I say, you need to get out more. Out here in the Northwest suburbs there happens to be a new five star brunch spot, Katie's kitchen. Better try it before the word gets out. It will be sooner than later that I'll be back and while I did see others with lunch that day; savory looking sloppy Joe's and the steak mentioned in reviews.. Well, if you are not a parent, apparently you should do yourself a favor and skip this review. I received a nasty message - a "compliment" from a seemingly childless Yelper who was bored to tears by what follows this paragraph. I get it, but, good news: I didn't write it for you childless types, who may go anywhere and do anything with abandon (and in silence and with no bag of kid crap, literal and figurative). And may the toasty Yelp guy be blessed one day with at least triplets and find himself trapped in some restaurant with no crayons, no booster seats, and waitstaff who think toddlers can wait 15 minutes for their milk. I digress. This is a pretty decent spot to breakfast with toddlers, if you are forced to be in this part of Chicagoland. They got us in on Mother's Day with no reservation in 5 minutes, not 30 like they told us at first. But as important to ensuring that the youngest members of our party continued to be kind to the other patrons: -kids cups with lids and DINOSAURS on them and crayons/colorable placemats. -kids menu with letter-shaped pancakes and also Mickey Mouse pancakes (w/ chocolate chips but I bet they would skip those); and -seemingly flexible waitstaff and kitchen...no annoyance when we, in typical people-with-kids-who-think-their-kids-are-special-and-need-more-than-sugar-for-breakfast fashion (sorry, childless Yelp guy!!), asked them to skip the sprinkles, whip cream, and dental fallout causing fairy dust and instead throw some kind of fresh fruit on them. These things together ensured that the childless (at least at the time) people around us could enjoy their eggs benedict - and that I could enjoy mine! read more

This restaurant is close to my work and I always wanted to try it. I came in on a Thursday morning and the place was empty. I walked in to find no hostess, I stood there for a bit looking around. She finally came over and seated me. The place is very spacious, pleasant looking. She asks me if I want coffee and I say yes, she asks if I will be needing cream, I said yes. She brings over a tiny little cream pitcher but no coffee. I sat there waiting for her to return, about 5 minutes or so and I ask her for coffee. The fact that she forgot to give me coffee and the place is dead is not good. I looked over the menu and they have a lot of yummy options. I went with the huevos rancheros. 2 poached eggs, with skirt steak, salsa and avocado. It came with a side of over roasted potatoes. Food came out quickly and my meal looked delicious. I found it strange that my eggs were kind of Benedict style with an English muffin under the steak. I didn't care for the English muffin so I removed it. My steak was absolutely perfect! It was a nice size, it had a fantastic flavor and it was so tender and juicy. My entire meal was delicious! The server ended up being really nice, she checked on me and was pleasant to chat with. This is a solid place for breakfast with generous portions but the atmosphere and mediocre service take away some stars. The lady at the register was not very nice upon us entering when she asked us how many in our party to seat us nor when she rang us up at the end of our meal. She was very abrupt and had a pretty rude tone when speaking to us. The food served here is your standard breakfast items and I ordered the Meat Lovers skillet and my friend had the Berry Belgian Waffles. My skillet was a bit greasy but I suppose that's to be expected when it comes with ham, bacon, and sausage! The coffee served here is your basic diner coffee so don't expect anything fancy but it does the job. Have to knock this down a notch given my latest visits. The service has been if-y. With all the bus boys running around picking up plates or rolling the sweeper on the floor, no one comes by to fill up your water - every single visit. It isn't as if there is a shortage of busboys. One waitress there is excellent, the other not so much (only seen two waitresses in my 5 visits) . Similar to Shong's comment on the service that he received. Last visit, I had to alert a bus boy to get our waitress who disappeared into the kitchen as it was near end of lunch and had only a few tables. Patty melt tasty and substantial. I'm pretty picky when it comes to hashbrowns, these are the best hashbrowns I have had in years (I had the regular ones, not shredded). It is close to home and I would visit more often if they had lower prices - as far as service, if only I could have the same (good) waitress each time read more

A 5 Star brunch joint in my neck of the woods?! I had to try it... It was pouring rain when we went Sunday morning, but it didn't stop us. We spotted the place a few blocks south as we approached it, so it wasn't too difficult to find. As we walked in around 11:00 am, the line wasn't bad either. We put in our names and waited for about 10-15 minutes before getting a table, but we did only have a party of 4. The place is somewhat spacious so I don't think it'll be difficult trying to get a bigger party in. I immediately noticed the decor. It was fairly elegant for a breakfast joint and I was afraid the price was going to reflect on the decor. fortunately I was wrong. The prices are comparable to other breakfast/lunch places but their food is a step above. I read some of the past reviews about the skirt steak, so I had to experience it for myself. It was EXCELLENT! I loved it. The portions were perfect. The temperature perfect. The taste and texture, awesome! It was a bit pricey, but reasonable. I wish they would drop it just a tad and I'd be there every week. My other friend had a tuna fillet sandwich and I took a bite. It was very.. uh.. cheesy.. but it WAS cooked to perfection. I guess I'm just not a big fan of too much cheese. I would have given it 5 stars but the service was sub par. Our waitress disappeared on us a few times for quite a length of time when we needed some service. Anyway, I recommend it a try if you live in the area. In addition to your usual breakfast fare you'll enjoy creative menu options like the huevos rancheros benedict, some truly fabulous crepes, and more. Service was prompt and friendly (my friends say Sundays usually involve a line, but on Saturday we were seated immediately). First time eating here and I will not eat here again. the Skillet was 15.99 and I did not enjoy it at all. It had no flavor at all. I had to add a bunch of salt to it and still tasted bad. I ended up throwing it away, just a waste of money. I am not sure how the rest of their food is but DO NOT get the steak skillet its gross and not worth the money! read more

On this particular day, My husband was going to take an international flight, so we went to the airport, checked luggage and then made our way to Katie's Kitchen. The menu was wonderful and offered something for everyone. I had the sunrise oatmeal which actually had these fabulous dark cherries, bananas and macadamia nuts.We also ordered the multigrain waffle topped with bananas and fresh strawberries.Service was great, restaurant was casual, friendly and clean. I ate here on a recommendation from a friend. It was a good recommendation! The place is medium/large sized with ample space between the booths and tables. It wasn't very busy during my visit - a rather blustery Monday at brunch time. Service was seriously speedy - so much so that I commented on it. The very pleasant waitress said that it was because they weren't busy. But I suspect that the kitchen always gets things out pronto. It's a pretty standard menu for an American Diner type place. But the food was a cut above the usual. You won't confuse it with fine dining, but you won't be disappointed either. During rush hour you might find it a bit difficult to get in and out of the parking lot. It's in a strip mall right near a busy intersection. I rarely if ever write reviews but feel compelled to. I don't know who is rating this place so highly. I have been here 4 times in 4 years and everything about my experience has been consistently poor every time. My grandmother is a fan (...she's senile) so now and then I'll humor her since it's nearby. Here's today's experience. TLDR: Rude staff, cold food arrived 90 min after ordering, and someone needs to call the health inspector. 1. Walked in; as expected, it was crowded. The same person is always at the front, an older woman, and I remember her because she is extremely rude to everyone. Today was no exception. She snapped at the elderly woman ahead of us and when we got to the front she asked if we had a reservation. I pointed out that my 96 year old grandma, who was with me, had called yesterday and tried to make a reservation. She was told "it's not necessary." Then we arrive and you ask if we have one? And because we don't it's a 45 minute wait? 2. Upon sitting I noticed that the dining room was packed to capacity and no one had any food. We ordered intentionally easy meals - eggs and bacon - since the kitchen looked backed up. We waited NINETY (90!!!) minutes for this food. 3. There seemed to be no servers. Every 15-20 minutes a servers assistant (I.e. busboy) would refill our coffee. Once our server came by and apologized for the wait. After we received our food 1.5 hours later, she never came back. I flagged down another server for the check. 4. The food was ice cold! If the kitchen was backed up and working to crank out orders, presumably they'd be fresh and hot - why was it served to us cold?? At that point we were so hungry we ate it anyway. 5. Food quality is consistently sub par - seeds in the food, cheese sprinkled on a plate of pancakes, moldy lettuce... one time there was plastic wrap in my breakfast wrap. Today was again just terrible food... a slop of eggs and bacon on a plate. I get that it's a pandemic now and you're trying your best but did you not expect a bigger crowd today? Truly, how is this place still open with so many things consistently so wrong for so long??? I have never had such a reliably poor experience. Ever.
