I sat at the sushi bar, with the head sushi chef in front and center. He was very nice and cordial. Local kine guy. Really nice! The menu is pretty large for an all you can eat sushi place. My favorites were the salmon, hamachi, and snapper. Unfortunately, I was only allowed to order up to 4 pieces of one type of nagiri at a time and only 5 types of nagiri at a time. If this weren't the case, I would've easily ordered a whole set of salmon. Note to self, stick to the nagiri. The rolls were really filling, but they charge extra for wasted food. You cannot beat the price you pay for this kind of quality sushi! $25 dollars for all you can eat sushi? YASS PLEASE! The only reasons why they get a star deducted are that you really do need to have reservations on busier nights because they have VERY limited seating. Also, you need to have finished everything in your order before even placing another one... so the food takes a while to get to you. They are limited to only nigiri and hand rolls, as well, but that doesn't even bother me one bit. :) You are able to order up to 5 ITEMS per order. For example, if there are two of you, you order five items. We ordered three different nigiri and two different handrolls. They get to you as soon as they're done making it and the nigiri is 4 pieces of each item. So we had 12 pieces of nigiri get to us first. Only one of our handrolls made it out quick because the other one needed to be broiled. We sat there for a while without being able to order anything because we hadn't received our last roll yet (one hand roll per person, by the way). So between our last hand roll getting to us and the next order being completed, it was about 15-20 minutes. And this was on a slower night where six people didn't show up. Other than that, EVERYTHING they serve is such high quality. It's just the right amount of rice and the fish is cut perfect to almost melt in your mouth. Everything is made to order which makes the wait worth the time. I don't normally eat sake (salmon) but I could eat a million pieces there if my stomach would let me! Came here for the first time last night. I don't go to many sushi places because I honestly have a pretty simple pallette and don't like a huge variety of sushi. But I'm glad I tried this place out. I came here with my friend that comes a lot. What I really liked was the patience of the woman working there. We had to push back our reservation 3 times because we were having trouble getting our group together. In the end our party of 3 turned into a party of 2 and placed our orders around 8:40. The woman taking our orders and handling the service was very sweet & understanding and even explained the different types of fish to me. Literally all I knew was 'ebi' because I love shrimp. Me and my friend had the AYCE and ended up placing orders 3 times! All of them were prepared perfectly and quickly. The only reason this didn't get a perfect 5 star was that although I love small cozy resturants it would suck to go all the way into town, pay for parking and then not get a table. Yeah you can make a reservation but I like being able to go somewhere spontaneously. Especially with a place that's open til 10. The chef also seemed to get irritated. While we waited outside i could see him gesturing to us and talking to the woman with an obvious aggitated face. He also quickly (almost rudely) told a couple walking in that they were too late and that the kitchen closes at 9:30. I went to Kats Sushi the other day and I overall had a good and fun time with my friends. They open at 5:30, which is when we had a reservation for dinner. It's recommended to have a reservation in advance! My friends and I chose to do the All You Can Eat option which had a good variety of nigiri sushi options and hand roll sushi. You should definitely pace yourself while ordering to make sure you don't over order or waste any of the food! Service is good here since it is a smaller restaurant, so you can expect the server to come around often to fill up your water and take your sushi orders. I made this account just to share my horrendous experience here at Kat's sushi. I visited this establishment recently, expecting a good night with my family. However, that's not how things turned out. I was greeted by the lady waitress and she seemed to be in a bad mood, as the tone in her voice was very aggressive. I don't think the all you can eat sushi is worth it. I try to eat as much as I could but in reality I probably only ate about $12-15 worth. I don't care what people say I think Genki is still better- you get a lot more Sushi, a lot more variety & the fish seems fresher. Kat's had good Nori that's about the only Plus I can think of. The inside of the restaurant is literally 300 square feet or something. Kats Sushi - a place for those who are capable of eating more than ~6 plates at Genki Sushi. The price is about $24 / person, although you can order ala carte if you think you won't eat $24 worth. I'll start off by saying that the mark of a good restaurant (especially an all you can eat one), is one that makes you want to go back and eat MORE, even after you left a few hours ago...Kats has a way of making me feel like this....I need help... Let's start with the pro tips (I've been here at least 5 times so I would consider myself a Kats expert): 1) Parking: go before they open for dinner at 5:30PM to try and get street parking (free after 6PM). If not, go up the steep ramp to an open parking structure and pay $2 in the box. 2) Reservations: ALWAYS make one (I've walked in at 5:30PM before and gotten seated, but it's best to call during lunch hours to make a reservation for dinner). 3) When ordering: It's all you can eat, and your table can order up to 5 different types of sushi at a time (e.g., for the first round you can order as many pieces of ahi / salmon / hamachi / ebi / ika as you want, but you can't order a 6th type of fish until the next round). If you're a first timer, I would recommend doing one order (two pieces) of each fish to get a sense of what you like (even if you know what you like, it could taste different here), and then order more quantities in the following rounds. 4) For nigiri: I recommend the ahi / salmon / hamachi / mackerel (A-Team), and the ika / tai / ebi / tamago (B-Team, but still good) 5) For handrolls: I recommend the California hand roll and the spicy hamachi hand roll; I wouldn't order too many at one time otherwise the nori won't be crispy. There's usually two sushi chefs assembling the sushi and ample wait staff. I've never felt like I've waited long for my food. Some might say the fish to rice ratio on the nigiri could be better (and I have seen better at some California all you can eat restaurants), but I don't think it's overboard (in fact, at times it may be less than Genki's). Would I always choose Kats over Genki? I love Kats sushi. I always go with a group of my coworkers which always makes the AYCE worth while. Highly recommend making a reservation, it's always pretty busy. The nigiri is very tasty with good quality fish. In between nigiri platters you can order different hand rolls which I think is a nice switch up. I love this place! For $23, it's all you can eat sushi so it's definitely the best bang for your buck. I used to live in Las Vegas where there were several All You Can Eat sushi places for between $25-$30 so it's nice to know that I can just drive down the way for the similar price. Only difference is the selection and quality of course. The $23 all you can eat is only nigiri rolls and hand rolls. They don't serve fancy schmancy rolls but I prefer nigiri and hand rolls over a Philly Roll any day. This place is quite small and usually doesn't take reservations so the earlier you get there the better chance of getting a seat and not having to wait. I've come here a couple times when they first start dinner service and never had to wait but I see the place quickly fill up as the night goes on. They open for lunch as well where you can find plate lunch specials because most of those patrons are on a lunch break and who's really gonna pound $23 worth of sushi then? Their dinner hours are from 5-10 and only service sushi. Kat's is also BYOB so you can bring some sake or Kirin to wash down the sushi. Parking is a little of a hassle but you can either park in the parking garage or in the lot next door which is just for that one business there but since it's outside of their business hours, the sushi chef said it's fine to park there for Kat's. Ahi is usually my #1 choice for nigiri and Hamachi is a hit or miss for me but here the Hamachi is my fave. I've also had the red snapper (tai) which to my surprise was goood. Unagi and the tamago are also delish! My favorite hand rolls are the salmon skin, spicy tuna and definitely the California roll. If you go with others, you're only allowed to order 5 items at a time and no this doesn't not mean 5 per person it's 5 for the whole table. There are only two sushi chefs so if it's busy be prepared to wait a little longer but the sushi usually comes out pretty quick and most definitely worth it.
