I planned to grab my favorite Panda Express for dinner tonight but noticed a new restaurant opened nearby. Not sure how new it is, but since I love chicken katsu, I decided to give it a try! I placed a take out order and waited about 10-15 minutes for my meal. Initially, I just wanted the chicken katsu without any sides, but the price was the same with or without them, so I went with the plate. Choosing a sauce was tough - I love curry sauce, but the original katsu sauce sounded like a classic option. When I asked the staff for a recommendation, they said the original was their favorite, so I went with it. Unfortunately, it wasn't mine. It was surprisingly sweet and a bit watery for my taste. Strangely it kinda tasted like tomato sauce. I'd rate the original katsu sauce a 2. However, the chicken was solid, and the sides - salad, radish, and macaroni pasta - were enjoyable. Next time, I'll definitely try the curry sauce! The restaurant also had a photo booth area, but it didn't seem to be working. At least I don't think it was or maybe no one was using it? I came here on a Friday and it was not busy at all. You have the option of ordering at a kiosk or you can sit and a server comes to you. I like the two options because the kiosk lets you see pictures of every item. This location compared to their OC location is much nicer and has better service. I also like how they have a lunch special it makes for a pretty good deal. We got the pork katsu rice plate with katsu sauce, katsu Sando with berry sauce, and sausage rice cakes. The rice cakes were delicious and chewy but the sausage had a weird mushy texture. The katsu plate was good and a huge portion but the sides were nothing special. 3.5 stars for food and service (regardless of my experience with their Grand Opening BOGO special). The line wasnt too bad when I arrived around 11:45am, however, I could tell that their kitchen was backed up and the staff was all over the place. Outside of this crazy BOGO day, I do feel like they have the capacity and staff to operate efficiently on a regular day. (they accidentally gave us the wrong order before we realized and corrected for udon). Shrimp Katsu Rice Plate - This was just ok cause the rice was undercooked and hard. You have the option to choose Katsu sauce or curry. I shouldve went with the curry since their katsu sauce might contain ketchup as the base, so it tasted very ketchupy. Just tried the chicken sando and immediately the sauce had a weird flavor. It was not good at all. The waffle fries were ok at best. Both GF and I could not finish the Sando's that's how bad it was. Their fried chicken was like something out of a bag and thrown into an air fryer: dry and tough, and the sauce (just kind of drizzled on, so it pooled at the bottom and didn't really coat the pieces of chicken) wasn't enough to hide it. Curry pork katsu with rice - Good sized pork cutlet that was a little heavy on the breading. They only put dressing on the tomato which left the cabbage slaw dry. Overall average. 2. Curry chicken katsu with udon - Good sized chicken cutlet. The udon was thick and chewy. Only downside is they charge and extra .50 cents for extra spicy. They also didn't tell us there's an extra charge, we only found out once the bill was given to us. 3. Chicken katsu tteokbokki - The tteobokki was good. I don't know if we were unlucky, but the menu said it came with fish cake and there wasn't any. They give a generous portion of cutlet, but that doesn't make up for the flaws. Also, their other katsu sauce is tomato based. I got the katsu sandwich and it was a thick piece of meat. I got mine with chicken and it basically tasted like a flatten chicken burger you would get elsewhere. The jalapeños and coleslaw though added so much flavor. We also got the mushroom tempura and if you're a fan of fried mushrooms these are so good. The light tempura batter is crispy while not taking away from the juiciness of the button mushrooms. The space is really clean. Also I need to address how the plate kept on SPINNING every time I took a bite to eat, I have to hold it down for the plate to stay still. Finally had a chance to try the Katsu Bar located in the Spectrum shopping center in the city of Chino. The interior is modern, bright, and welcoming. Ordering is completed using a self-service monitor on the front counter. The self-service ordering system is not clearly marked, so we observed people standing at the counter waiting for someone to take their orders. After several minutes, the customers realized it was self-service ordering. Regarding the food, we ordered both the pork and chicken Katsu. Both options were very good. The taste rivaled Katsu you might find in Japan, and the portions were excellent for the price. We also had a side order of the waffle fries, which were also very good. Regarding the service, it was excellent. The employees were friendly and attentive. The employees were also cleaning the tables after each customer finished their meals. If you're familiar with the Chino Spectrum, you'll remember this location was formerly Pho Grand Vietnamese Noodle and Grill. My sister and I came in on a Friday evening and were luckily the only customers at the time. We opted to order on the kiosk as no employees were present at the counter but, as we were ordering a female employee appeared and offered to take our order. We ordered the Yubu set (4 yubu pockets) and the cauliflower tempura to share. I opted for the egg salad and the seaweed yubu pockets. My sister had the spicy cali roll and the spicy tuna pockets. After placing our order, the female employee was so sweet and offered us water while we waited for our food to be prepared. Everything is fresh and made to order so our food took a little while. The cauliflower tempura was delicious and a GENEROUS portion! It was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. A side of their house garlic aioli was included for dipping but the cauliflower was good on its own IMO. The Yubu pockets were also great. The rice to filling ratio was balanced unlike other places where they give you more rice than anything just to fill the tofu skins. I loved how sleek and CLEAN the restaurant is and how friendly the employees are. There is an ample amount of seating Inside if you choose to dine in and plenty of outdoor seating in the "food court". Also, there is a "self photo studio" with props on the left side when you walk in for use. :) I will definitely be coming back to try their Katsu, they are called Katsu Bar after all! :) lol read more

The bathroom walls, doors etc have built-up grime, the menus are sticky, I have watched more than one staff person clean tables and push down trash in the cans, then touch food/utensils without washing their hands. I decided to try this place after seeing a video on Instagram! The server was super friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself was clean which was great ! My friend and I came specifically after seeing the strawberry Sando online but unfortunately it was out of stock which was really disappointing. I tried the curry udon with chicken katsu and the beef bulgogi yubu. The yubu and chicken katsu itself was delicious but the curry itself was only ok. For the price I expected more flavor and for it to be less watery. My friend and I were looking forward to trying the photobooth but the photobooth was down. Another downside was that the bathroom wasn't as clean as I thought it would be and there was no holder for toilet paper. I had been eyeing to try this place for a while, so when we saw a BOGO 50% off deal pop up for a few days, we figured this was the time to go and this was our chance to try many dishes for a bit of a discount. After all, the limited deal did say 1 per costumer, so we figured with myself, my husband, and my friend, we could try 6 dishes... We entered the decor and it was bright and inviting. They brought us a high chair for my baby... and I do not know what kind of high chair they ordered, but it was the SMALLEST high chair ever. We could not get our baby in the high chair and ended up just keeping him in the stroller. Anyways, we went over the menu and decided to order our food. It's a causal place where you order your food at the register and pay and then they bring it out to your table. So, when we ordered, we were pretty disappointed when we were told that we were only allowed ONE BOGO deal since we all came in together... so their deal says one per customer but when you try to use it, they tell you one per table?? Sounds like a bit of a bait and switch and that rubbed us the wrong wrong. So if we all walked in separately and ordered at the registered separately, then we would be able to do BOGO for each of us, but since we walked in together, we were only allowed ONE deal total. My friend was not even paying with us! So we pointed that out and after some discussion, they said they would allow that... that left a sour taste in our mouth from the start. Anyways, so I ended up ordering 3 dished for my husband and I because we still wanted to try the items. We got the ramen, Katsu plate, and the yubu. The ramen was okay. Just get ramen at a ramen place. The flavor was not there for me. The katsu ended up being the best dish, and you can get it "large" which comes with double the portion of meat. I think it was an extra $4 which I thought was a pretty good deal. The katsu was crispy and tasty. I would recommend the katsu dish. As far as the yubu pockets, we got bulgogi and butter shrimp. I know there's this hype around yubu pockets, so I wanted to try it... but for me, it is NOT my thing. I did not like the sweetness of the tofu shells and they are also soggy. In my head, I was thinking it was a crunchy tofu shell. The bulgogi tasted better than the butter shrimp. The shrimp was TINY, really cheap quality shrimp. The yubu pockets have rice under and just tasted like mushy sweet goo and I thought the combination of everything was gross. I would not get those again. Lots of parking options around the complex, though the place might be hard to spot since it's tucked away in the middle of a stretch of other restaurants. But there's lots of open, clean space when you walk in. Visitors (myself included) may miss the sign at the front specifying that the digital kiosk is available for takeout orders, while table service is available for those dining in. The katsu sandwich and waffle fries were pretty good (especially with curry dip), but the highlight is the katsu plate with curry and cheese. I got a side of spicy curry to go alongside the plate and it was worth it. They also had photobooths on the other side of the restaurant, which we briefly checked out. I visited Katsu Bar for the first time on Christmas Eve, and the space was spacious and welcoming. The first thing that caught my eye was a large self-photo studio to the left, featuring three booths for photos, though there were no curtains to provide privacy. My family and I decided to try the Photo Booth, which cost $9 for the prints, a QR code to access the photos and a video of the entire session. They had a cute Christmas format to take pictures. At the end, my print didn't come out so I went to let the cashier know and she told her manager. The manager came quickly to fix the printer and gave them to us, and it was a fun experience. I ordered from a friendly young lady who was helpful in answering my questions. My meal included the Katsu Plate with beef and curry, a Katsu Bowl with chicken, sausage rice cakes, a slice of tiramisu cake, and a fountain drink, totaling $54.40. The chicken Katsu was crispy and delicious. The Beef Katsu was a bit soggy, though the beef itself was tasty, especially with the mac salad. The mild curry had just the right amount of heat and tasted great with the beef and rice. I didn't eat the salad on the plate, and would probably opt for a different side if they offered it. The sausage rice cakes were yummy, and had a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. I've been looking for a place in the IE that serves sausage rice cakes, so I'm glad to have found this one.
