We've been ordering take out from Formosa Bento for a very long time and the flavors are authentic. Even my boomer mom who is incredibly picky about what she enjoys eating their food. However, their service and treatment towards their customers is an entirely different story. Yesterday we decided to dine in and I know have a different experience and will probably not ever go back. The woman working there truly hates her job and is incredibly loud and rude. This is not the Taiwanese experience that probably most people expect, which is warm, pleasant, helpful. She is literally barking orders to customers and shouting instructions and order numbers out. For instance, we ordered 4 bentos and instead of her checking with the cook when everything was ready, she called it out one by one and was annoyed if we didn't immediately get it. Every little thing seemed to upset her, why is there even a sweetness level to winter melon tea when it's not possible, and she wanted to let us know how annoyed she is. The food took incredibly long to get. 3 out of the 4 bentos took 15-20 minutes, and the last item took another 15-20 minutes so we couldn't even eat together at the same time. If you enjoy being scolded by an old asian lady who glaring at your table while you eat, and walking by barking orders at anyone in general, "you need to throw away your own food!" It's like, lady, we aren't even finished yet. For the price of the food, you would expect much better service, or at least someone who hates their job but keeps their muttering and bad behavior to a minimum. Or perhaps invest in some robot servers who can bring out the food without guests having to walk up several times to retrieve every single bento box. If I wanted this toxic environment, I would go see my mother and mother in law. Needless to say, it was so off putting that I will stop supporting this place. read more

This is the newest Taiwanese Bento shop in the Chino area that took over the old Taiwanese restaurant in the Costco Plaza near Boiling Point. This place has a wide variety of traditional Taiwanese food and best yet NO tips! You can either order yourself at the kiosk or at the register. Everything here is self service, hence no tipping! Yes you get your own water, utensils, pickup your tray at the counter. The value for the bento sets is awesome! Each bento comes with 3 side dishes along with the main item. The sides change often so it will be different most times! Our favorites so far have been the tomato egg, and garlic napa or bokchoy. Our go-to mains have been porkchop rice or the ginger chicken, but the 3 cup chicken is also delicious. There snack items are also great with the fried tempura or popcorn mushroom being favorites. You can also add a drink to your order at discount or order drinks ala carte. The servers ladies do speak both mandarin and english. They do still bring your order to your table occasionally if they are not super busy. Yes there is a line on peak weekend hours but usually goes pretty quickly. This is definitely highly recommended and our new go-to place when we're in the area looking for delicious Taiwanese Bentos. It has the stamp of approval from Mom and Dad too! read more

This is a very authentic Japanese spot with a strong Asian clientele. I was the only white dude in the entire hour that I was there. I love that! It really shows their authenticity. Not a fan of ordering at a kiosk but I was able to take my time and place my order. The food is good with quite a large serving. This place opened about a year ago, and I finally had the chance to try it out. Love how convenience it is. The chicken thighs bowl is not expensive, and the portion is great. The restaurant does not ask you for tips and offer free watermelon tea. The chicken thighs are tender and Taiwanese cabbages are nicely cooked and lightly seasoned. The pickles add a great flavor to the bowls highly recommend this place for a quick meal. The staff are friendly, but always busy. The restaurant is very clean and organized. read more

Pretty good taiwanese food..... plus it isn't as expensive as you would think. So here's the deal.... it's a place you go to for taiwanese "bento-ish" meals. You get there and line up / pay at the kiosk. Good news no need for tips here. Probably because it's incorporated in the prices ... which is a plus. They have a number of choices for meals and, i'm pretty happy with the them and the price. So the bento's have an assortment of side dishes that come with them... Since , i went for to-go .... i just got bowls. These do not have sides but they do come with the protein, rice , and stir fried cabbage... so pretty good meal already... I particularly liked the chicken - ginger scallion.... the sauce made the dish.... their porkchop were pretty good too. Ambiance wise, they do have a number of tables and chairs available... Saw a few videos of this place on TikTok and was excited to have another Taiwanese spot in the area. I ordered online, but the restaurant has a kiosk inside for dine-in. I personally love ordering through kiosks - and wish more fast casual places offered this. Popcorn chicken - they give you a huge portion and nice sized chunks of chicken. On top of the basil they also prepare it with some whole garlic cloves, which I loved. Flavor was fantastic though I wish it was spicier. Fried rice with pork chop - fried rice was definitely on the stickier side. I prefer a drier texture but the flavor was good. I'm a sucker for egg fried rice and this hit the spot. Pork chop was also super flavorful. Nice light batter. Cut into bite size slivers. Fried noodles - pretty typical stuff. Again the portions here are very generous so you're getting bang for your buck. They use napa cabbage in their noodles so gives you that nice bit of sweetness. Really good food. Good prices. I was craving a garlic butter shrimp burrito but I couldn't find anything nearby that could really hit that spot for me. So let's go Asian style, it's my first time ordering here I called in my order and ordered the butter garlic shrimp bento plus the radish pork soup. When I arrived in around 20 mins the lady seemed to be a bit confused on why my order was labeled "delivery" and she thought I had already paid. She was about to hand the food to me when I took out my card to pay she was confused and had to ask the other staff to ring me up. Minor confusion I didn't mind but she also just grabbed my card w a greasy glove. She apologized for getting food oils on my card and it wasn't a big deal but I didn't think that was very sanitary if she wanted to continue to use that glove. The spot is in a little plaza across from Costco. I didnt sit down to eat but it was pretty empty and I would've stayed if I wasn't on my lunch break. I'm really digging the flavor on the bento. The amount they gave was really satisfying: it had two types of green veggies like cabbage and some carrot Stir fry Choi. This is what I would subtract 1 star for. The stir fried choi tasted like the grill. Like they kept using the same grill or wok without cleaning it. Upon closer inspection, I saw lil black dots of the wok/grill on this item. I just ate some of it and didn't finish that part. Tasted more fire grill burnt than I would've liked, although the presentation was nice, I don't think that was what they were aiming for with that burnt grill taste. then they also had this king oyster saucy mushroom in the center of the bento. That was gooooood. The shrimp was a flavor bang it really hit the spot for me. I loved getting the rice all saucy with that garlicky butter pepper flavor. They didn't skimp out on the amount of shrimp either. I counted 9 pieces of shrimp. It's headless tail on shrimp so don't forget to remove the tails! Unless u like crunchy lol. They did that shrimp butter garlic flavor mixed w onions so well!! I also really enjoyed the spicy mustard greens on top of the rice and wished that they put a bit more of that in it. My total came out to be around $20. I haven't tried the pork radish soup yet but maybe I'll update my review after I try it. I'm just already pretty full. I came here after shopping at Costco in the same plaza. I usually get their popcorn chicken bento box to-go. They have kiosks and you can order ahead on their website. It comes with sauteed cabbage, steamed bok choy, mapo tofu, and rice with minced pork. The side dishes were seasoned nicely and the popcorn chicken was crispy and not too salty. They are marketed like a ready to eat bento place. You would expect that things are quick. But the dine in experience was very slow. They kept delaying because the fried items were not ready. The experience was similar with a order ahead take out when they missed the estimate time by 15 minutes. You probably have to order ahead like 45 minutes to get a takeout order on time. The price per value was otherwise fine and the taste was otherwise standard. If they could fix the wait time they would have something. read more

This is the newest Taiwanese spot in town and locals are already lining up for it. Being Taiwanese, I'm proud to say it's got all the core elements of that Taiwanese hospitality--self-service AKA no tipping, kind and gracious service, and, of course, BANGIN' food. They specialize in what they call railroad bento boxes, vintage-style drinks like kumquat lemon green tea made from real fruits, and even traditional Taiwanese desserts like tofu pudding. I had to get the classic fried pork chop in my bento and this really satisfied my major food withdrawals coming back from Taiwan. But the SIDES omg. Usually side dishes that come like this are prettyyy forgettable but I might've liked the sides like the mapo tofu and king oyster mushroom more than the entrees. This is located in the same plaza as Meet Fresh by Costco. It's very convenient to pick up some quick bento boxes meals after Costco. Plenty of parking. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There are around 10 tables if you want to dine in, very clean. You order at the kiosk right when you walk in and they will call your number when your food is ready. Your meal comes with a complementary drinks (black tea or winter melon). If you dine in, there are self serve stations where you can fill the drinks at the drink station. You can also order online through the link listed on Google. The portion is very generous and big. I ordered the popcorn chicken combo and braised chicken leg combo. Saw this new Taiwanese bento spot pop up and I knew I had to try! Parking was easy in the shared lot and upon entering, we placed an order at the kiosk. We got the fried sausage bento and the golden crispy chicken thigh bento, both of which came with a soup and a self serve drink (wintermelon tea or unsweetened black tea). The food was ready promptly, and you pick it up at the front and find your own table. The food was really good! My picky Asian mom ate the entire thing with no leftovers and approves. The staff members were also nice, walking around to each table and asking how everything tasted. If I could suggest a couple of small improvements, I think the pork chop would be even better with just a touch of sweetness to balance the seasoning, as it was slightly on the salty side. only had 30min to grab dinner and saw the high reviews on this place. came in around 5pm on a Wednesday. only 1 table was filled. the place i clean and the lady immediately asked if I'm there to pickup, order to go, or sit down. then asked me to order from the colorful machine at the entrance. I like that all the menu item is large fonts and with a photo of what the meal looks like. very easy to navigate. I ordered a fried chicken bento. pickup at the counter, grabbed the cup and get your selection of drink: water, iced tea, or winter melon drink. both tea and melon drink are a little too sweet for me (I had to dilute them with water). the bento was large portion, came with 3 side dishes and a good portion of daily soup (I think it's vegetable clear soup today). the chicken was juicy and crispy with lots of flavor. the breading is a little too salty for my taste. for $16 for a whole meal, that I couldn't finish, is a great deal nowadays. I've had the bento from Formosa before and they were all good. However, today I went with the a la carte mapo tofu and was not thrilled. There is a strong Szechuan flavor in the oil, and there are no meat or mushrooms. I guess I was expecting the more traditional mapo tofu.
