The place was clean and friendly staff. I stopped for lunch however it was not what I expected from a Katsu Sando. The meat was soggy/chewy not crispy and the sauce was way too sweet. The plating was nice but won't definitely not go back. I've had better Katsu in other places.

Definitely great quality katsu. Tried their new spicy cold noodles with katsu and although I'm not a big fan of cold thin noodles the spicy sauce and katsu were delicious. Service was excellent with the staff taking the food out to you even if you are sitting outside. Place was clean.

We passed by this location and decided to give it a try after seeing they had some deals posted right by the front door. We decided to try the following: Tteokbokki with Katsu: Thought this was pretty decent for the price. The katsu was perfectly fried and moist. The sauce was not too spicy and have a good flavor to it. Curry with Katsu: It simply is just curry and katsu. There was nothing too special about this one. Katsu still nice and crispy on this one! Korean Gang Jung: We got these in the soy garlic flavor. It was fried chicken with panko and tossed in sauce. I would say this would be a great starter if the chicken on this wasn't as dry. Not sure if this was just small strips of chicken they cut up but it seemed really dry. Overall, I think this place was just average. Nothing really stood out about their service or their food. I don't think I would be returning back here since there are a ton of other food options in the same plaza. I know they do have daily deals if you may be interested in some other items. I can't remember what exactly but they do have a sign right inside the restaurant that seemed like a fair price.

Katsu Bar has a pretty wallet friendly lunch special. Each day of the week has a different special, all at $13 each. I will admit, it is a pretty good deal. We got the curry udon and the katsu udon. Not only is the deal great, but if you're on the go, food comes out pretty fast (about 5 minutes or so). The katsu udon as the name suggest, comes with a crispy hearty katsu sitting on udon and broth. Katsu was on the bit dry side but meaty and delicious. The udon also hit the spot as the day that we stopped by was cold and it had rained earlier in the week. Service was friendly and the interior is a bit small with a self serve drink dispenser. (BTW did I mention that the lunch special comes with a free drink?). Located in the Culver Plaza by 99 Ranch Market, this is definitely a convenient spot to visit if you're hungry and need something fast to satisfy your hunger.

First time here for lunch. It seems like a pretty popular place in general. There was one table occupied inside and majority of patrons from this restaurant ate outside. The inside was very clean and bright. The staff was ok when taking our order. As for the food, we ordered a sandwich with waffle fries and Katsu plate. Even though we ate the food right away, it just seemed like it just wasn't hot enough. Additionally, there was not enough flavor and lack of seasoning on the food. Even with the dipping sauces, it just wasn't that tasty. We both did not finish our entrées. Probably will not return.

TLDR: 2 stars just for to-go The portion size is definitely smaller for to-go orders, their mala tteokbokki has zero spice or mala flavor, and they don't put the katsu separately, which guarantees a soggy katsu. Make sure to dine-in if you want to go here

Quick service! There are two screens you can order from which I liked, then you can sit and wait for the food to come out which they bring out to you. There's also outdoor seating. I got the curry chicken katsu udon and it was quite delicious. The chicken was crispy, I wish I had more! I wish I added an egg as I felt there was something missing from this.

Katsu Bar serves a comforting and flavorful katsu curry. The cutlet was crispy and the curry was rich. If I were to return, though, I'd stick to the curry and skip the sandwich; the combination of flavors with the rosemary felt a bit off. Service was great, and I enjoyed dining outside in the patio area. Overall, still a solid place when you're craving something warm and hearty.

I got the caprese katsu sandwich and honestly it was one of the strangest meals I've ever had. The flavor combination of whatever sauce was in the sandwich plus the katsu was a wild ride. I usually go to the restaurant next door for their lunch special but decided to walk in here today because it had a grand opening/now open sign. Upon entering the store the cashier greeted my co worker and I and handed us some cardboard paper flyers with pictures and descriptions of their food. After looking at it, the worker recommended some popular items to us, so we decided to go with the rosemary sando and the chicken strips. The food was good, but the gentleman that helped us was really nice, his name was Ethan. I think he might've been the owner since he was the only person there working, he was cashier, cook, and server. Would definitely come back here again to try different items and see how they taste. Chose the chicken katsu spicy and large size to split with my husband. It was temperature hot, spicy, crispy and delicious. Just needed a bit more rice and pickled radish but otherwise delicious! The pork katsu sandwich was alright. It was far too expensive for what it was. I got two katsu sandwiches and a strawberry cream sando and all that was 50 dollars. The sandwiches were ok, but the strawberry sando was terrible. They say they make them "in the morning" but the bread part of the strawberry sandwich was soaked with strawberry juice so it was a terrible texture. The cream was hard and just gross. Normally, don't eat out ever. When I do go out, I always go to my comfort spots. Tonight I decided to trying something new and decided to take a chance Katsu Bar that just opened up. I must say I am pleasantly surprised. I tried the Tteokbokki with Katsu. The dish was flavorful and a nice subtle kick to it. Katsu was crispy and most in the middle. Easy to break apart. I ordered a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich from Katsu Bar and received a regular Katsu sandwich. I did not mind, and simply wanted them to correct the order, so I politely called to ask. The first girl who picked up did not know what to do, so she handed the phone to a man. I told them that my Nashville Sandwich was extremely sweet (not spicy at all) and covered in Katsu sauce, to which he rudely replied "That's how our Nashville Sandwiches are." No inquiries on the sandwich, no offers to switch, and no customer service whatsoever. I asked if the sandwich was supposed to be red, like the photo advertised and he continued to gaslight me. I didn't want to argue, so I accepted it. I linked the photos of my sandwich just to compare the photos online, and it's upsetting that this store could not meet the bare minimum to apologize. It is okay that they got the order wrong, but they should work on asking about the order and accept the possibility of a mistake instead of gaslighting customers! read more

Food was exceptional. I had the large pork katsu, which apparently means an extra serving of katsu. This is enough to feed two people. The katsu here is not your traditional panko crusted log, it is light, flaky and cooked at the right temp. It comes with a side of pickled radish and arugula salad. My wife had the chicken katsu and although I am not a particular fan of chicken katsu, it was amazing. The service fine, but please note that you have to enter your order into ipad...you do not speak with anyone to place your order. It took a little while to get your food, but the juice was worth the squeeze. This is a fast food place so dont expect any fanciness, just simply good food and a great substitute for ultra-processed cardboard. Portions are good so you should be careful about ordering too much. It seems like they are relatively new and getting the process down so be patient and get ready to grub. read more

We ordered through the QR code that was made available on the table. I did notice that other tables had servers come in to take order but no one ever came to our table. So we opted to ordering via the QR code. Everything is paid once the order has been made. Our total came up to around $113. We were about half way through our meal when the sever with pink highlights in her hair came up to us to verify our order. She repeated an order that sounded ALMOST identical to ours however, the price was set at $89 which really confused us since we already paid $113 for our entire order. Then this server got impatient and told us "It's a YES or NO question... Is this your order or not? Do you not know?" Again, we were mostly confused as to why she presented us with a tab of $89 when we already paid $113. And not just that, we were still mid-way through our meal. Her rudeness really ruined our appetite. We weren't rude to her. Why did she have to speak to us like that?

This came with fried soft shell crab served in a gravy-like curry which was slightly sweet and savory. I asked for it mild and it didn't have any heat, perhaps next time I would go with medium. It was served with some bright red pickles and rice. I wasn't too impressed with the crab, the quantity was on the smaller side. Curry Lunch Special ($13.50) - This comes with a small curry and half of a side appetizer. On a subsequent visit I ordered this with chicken katsu and the gyoza appetizer. This came with 3 fried chicken gyozas that weren't bad, but I think I would have preferred if they were steamed. For my curry I went with the chicken katsu, which was slightly overcooked but still went well with the curry. Overall, the lunch specials are reasonably priced here and I would stick to getting that when I visit again. It's not a big restaurant inside, with about 8 tables and a good place to go to get one's Japanese curry fix.

This place is such a cute and cozy spot for a quick lunch! They have an awesome variety of Katsu dishes--everything from Katsu Sando and Katsu Udon to Katsu Ramen and tteokbokki with Katsu. You can pick from pork, chicken, shrimp, portobellos, or even caprese, which makes it fun to mix and match. I'm definitely excited to try all their options! On our first visit, we ordered the Katsu Sando with waffle fries and the tteokbokki with chicken Katsu. The friendly girl behind the counter walked us through the different sauce choices for the Katsu Sando. I picked the ?berry sauce, but it ended up being a bit too sweet for my taste and didn't quite go with the Katsu. After reading some reviews, I'm regretting not choosing the rosemary sauce--definitely going to try that next time. But the tteokbokki with chicken Katsu was a pleasant surprise! I'm not usually a fan of tteokbokki or spicy food, but this one was really mild and I ended up finishing the whole dish. It was surprisingly good! Overall, it's a great spot and at least one of our orders was fantastic. I'm not ruling out trying other dishes. Next time, I'm definitely going for the rosemary Katsu Sando and the black garlic Katsu Udon. I also really want to try their strawberry and egg Sando--it brings back memories of my trip to Japan last year. Looking forward to going back! read more

Come check out Katsu Bar in Irvine; it's a hidden gem for anyone who loves Japanese comfort food. The menu has a solid selection, and everything I tried was fresh and flavorful. The katsu was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and I really enjoyed that the meat quality isn't too fatty. Visited Katsu Bar for lunch on Memorial Day and had a fantastic experience. The girl at the front was incredibly helpful, I had some trouble with the Kiosk and she was more than polite. She was also impressively efficient, as she was the only one delivering orders to tables both outside and inside. The food was delicious and presented well. The interior was spotless. Loved the Katsu Curry Plate too; it comes with rice, salad, and korean radish, and the curry was tasty and not too spicy.
