The food was surprisingly good. The service was nice, we just didn't get seen at our table very often. Kayak Cafe was an amazing pizza and burger experience! We loved how fresh and flavorful everything was. The fries were perfectly crispy and soft on the inside with nostalgia of curly fries type of seasonings. Mushroom and sausage pizza reminded us of a slice of Italy but more cheesy. Catalina, our server was attentive, helpful with solid food recommendations and provided great service. Also, don't be deceived if they have a lot of open tables, this is a great find for good food. A group of 8 of us had an amazing experience at Kayak Cafe which is located on the corner of Ala Moana Blvd and Ena Road. The service was exemplary and the food was delicious. Our server, Roxanna, was very attentive, very personable, and took excellent care of us. We couldn't have been more pleased with the service. The food was cooked perfectly to order, arriving hot to the table, the salads were fresh and crisp, the portions were generous, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choices. We were there between the time that brunch is usually served and the lunch hours, so we were given the choice to order from either menu. Some of us opted for lunch and some for breakfast and everything was perfect. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and very clean and they offer outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. They have really good coffee, espresso, cappuccino and other specialty drinks. I had the cappuccino, which was excellent, and when two of us ordered regular coffee, they brewed us a fresh pot! The also have excellent fresh brewed ice tea. If anyone is gluten intolerant as I am, they have delicious gluten free pizza on the menu as well as other gluten free choices. The management has recently hired new staff and they obviously have gotten excellent training. We will definitely come back again and highly recommend that you give them a try! So...you start by ordering your food at the cashiers/hostess desk. After ordering you take your table number and silverware to the open table of your choosing. For the three meals and one iced latte we paid around $68 total, before tip. I didn't tip until after the meal, and why would you, no service has been rendered. We did tip after the meal. The music is about average, I could hold a conversation with my daughters if they weren't stuck on their phones. It took several minutes to get the water and iced latte we ordered. The food came out a little after the drinks. Everything tasted good, I really enjoyed the bulgogi eggs benedict, I thought the hollandaise was a touch bland but overall good. The potatoes weren't anything special, so if that's something you weigh your breakfast decisions on you might consider trying something besides the potatoes. My girls liked their respective versions of French toast. The guava French toast had a nice flavor but not overly sweet. Overall we would come back to Kayak Cafe. We ate at the Kayak Cafe after an unexpected stopover in Hawaii. Our plane had mechanical issues and we were on the runway 3-1/2 hours before deplaning. So we arrived at our hotel quite disgruntled. We decided to eat at Kayak Cafe because it was very close to the hotel. From the moment we walked in our mood changed. The person who seated us was very pleasant and gave us a nice table on the lanai. Unfortunately I didn't get his name. Our waiter, Devon, was awesome. He was the only waiter serving the side of the restaurant that we were in but he managed to give us excellent service. He actually apologized several times because he didn't think he was attentive enough. He checked our table several times and we thought he was very attentive. The food was excellent. We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer then we shared one of the pies and a cucumber feta salad. The salad was beautifully presented and was very fresh. The lanai is really nice and overlooks a busy intersection so we were able to watch all the comings and goings on the street below. We would certainly return if we found ourselves in Waikiki again especially if Devon was our server. read more

I live across the street from the Kayak, I called repeatedly to order a pizza to take out. After an hour I went there to place my order, the hostess was polite. She told me the phone was missing so that explains no answer. I ordered the sausage and mushroom pizza. When I opened the box I was disappointed because it was very dry and only 13 pieces of sausage, no mushrooms. It was totally dry and I didn't see any sauce on the pizza. Returned back because we enjoyed our previous experience however, we didn't have the same experience. The outdoor seating is very nice to enjoy Hawaii's beautiful weather. I tried the veggie burger this time and yuk, the patty was not good. My friend had the spaghetti and said it was good. While the server seemed nice, she was not efficient at all. We spent most of our time waiting for our drinks, food and bill than anyone should ever have to wait. I had the pizza before and if I return, will stick to that. Everyone raves about this place being "elevated plant-based dining," but after one visit I'm convinced the hype is just Chelsea people trying to justify $35 plates of vegetables. First off: no burgers, no chicken, no recognizable comfort food of any kind. Fine, that's their concept. But when your entire menu is built around "reimagining produce," it better be mind-blowing. It wasn't. It was aggressively average at best, pretentious at worst. We started with the grilled maitake "steak." It's a big mushroom cap with some black garlic miso smeared on it. It tasted like... a mushroom that someone forgot to season properly until the very end. Chewy in spots, bland in others, and the crispy shallots were basically just fried onions that fell off immediately. $18 for that. Then the roasted cauliflower "tikka masala." I love tikka masala. This was not it. The sauce was thin, overly sweet, and had zero depth of spice--more like a mildly curried cashew cream soup with some cauliflower chunks thrown in. The house naan was okay but tiny and overpriced. My partner took one bite and just pushed it away. Mains were even more disappointing. The sunchoke risotto tasted like someone boiled potatoes in oat milk and called it truffle luxury. The texture was gluey, the hazelnut gremolata was a sad sprinkle that did nothing, and the whole thing was lukewarm by the time it arrived. The rest of the menu was a greatest-hits collection of "things that aren't chicken": overpriced cauliflower, some sad pork thing, and approximately seventeen different ways to eat kale. I get it, you want to be "elevated" and "chef-driven," but when your chef is apparently terrified of poultry, maybe just put "We Are Afraid of Birds" on the sign out front so people like me don't waste 40 minutes of their life.
