My family of 4 went a couple days ago at lunch time. We payed a dinner price for lunch and got the tiniest portion. 15$ for this is just sad and almost offensive. The "fried rice" was not even fried rice. It lacked any taste and had clumps of normal white rice in it. What a greedy portion. We will not be coming back. When ordering off a certain part of the menu you can get 10 rolls of sushi for $50- or our family favorite 20 rolls for $100-. $5- a roll for fresh sushi that even includes deep fried sushi is a great deal rolled into one. I also, highly recommend their Poke Bowls. The ingredients were very fresh in everyone we've ordered and very well prepared as well. If you know what you like you can create type own. I was honestly so grossed out by the raw rolls I couldn't eat more than 2. The spicy tuna roll was more pale than the salmon. It kind of tasted like canned tuna. Slice level:0/5 taste: 1/5. Very good Sushi and Spring Rolls ! Stopped by this place to grab some food and was not disappointed.

I'm currently on vacation in Ponte Vedra, which means more opportunities to try new food! I ordered dinner from Kazu. I LOVE Asian food (if you haven't seen my other reviews, you know now). So I was craving takoyaki. I searched it and Kazu showed up! I ordered this, Yasai Gyoza, and a braised porkbelly bowl. The first thing I did was inhale the takoyaki. As soon as I opened the container, the katsuobushi flakes were still dancing (katsuobushi is a dried tuna that is shaved VERY thinly. So thin that heat makes it move. Tons of umami! The amount of flavor in these crisp dough balls with octopus and dancing katsuobushi flakes was IMMENSE! I'm sad there's only 4 to an order, but at the same time I'm glad it's only 4, I could eat an adult's weight of these! Next was the gyoza. These are just vegetarian dumplings, but were so incredibly made. Tasty, light, and enjoyable! Very well made! Now for the braised porkbelly bowl. Oh my. The flavor and taste of this is AMAZING! The pork firm in bite but the fatty part melts in your mouth. The amount of spice pairs so well with the fattiness of the pork and the white rice ties it all together. The shoyu tamago (soy sauce marinated egg) was a wonderful touch as well. The food I had was PHENOMENAL! The tuna and dancing eel are mediocre, soggy chewed up tuna on the inside, didn't have much of a flavor. The only that saved this sushi meal was the seaweed on the dancing eel roll, that was quiet good. Overall, I spent $25 to get 4 rolls. Not sure I would come back, we will see. GRAND OPENING of a new Kazu Sushi Burrito that opened up in the first phase of the Pavilion at Durbin Creek in the St Johns area. The first phase will house a multi-tenant shopping area and once complete, it will rival the local Jacksonville shopping areas like the Town Center. They were offering a Grand Opening special, which 50% off on all in store purchases. This of course lured me in. And thankfully I came in at the right time. I did not experienced any craziness of long lines. And I did not witness any first day opening blues from the employees. The employees all seem to work in sync. I am sure it's probably a different story during peak times. I had a great experience. Looking at the menu, we ordered the following: Shrimp Tempura Roll, Spider Roll, California Roll, I Love Bacon Roll and Takoyaki (fried octopus). The I Love Bacon Roll, despite made wrong as it had Salmon on top, was the winner of all of what we ordered. It was a delicious wrong sushi. I stuff this baby with white rice, salmon, edamame, scallions, crispy garlic, and avocado but you can do as you please, that's not my business! I personally prefer my sauce on the side so I got a cup of ponzu along with it but if you want shrimp sauce slapped all over that baby and rolled up, be my guest! These sushi burritos are just to die for, they are tightly wrapped and durable so you don't have to worry about spilling. and if you're not as decisive as I, definitely go for one of their signature burritos on the menu rather than a customized one! Seeing I was extra hungry, I got some spring rolls to accompany this burrito. I've never tried there's before but I was pleasantly surprised. They were not very oily, the inside was starchy and the vegetables were tasty. I enjoyed the sweet sauce on the side and I felt that the texture and flavor worked nicely together. The outdoor dining area was a great place to enjoy this meal in the sun. The food came out quickly and I ate every last bit. Placed an order through UberEats so by the time the food got to me, it wasn't super fresh/the right temp - but I can't fault the restaurant for that! Food was still good though! I liked the salmon roll and the Jimmy Smith roll! I like fried rolls, but I feel like sometimes you taste more of the friedness than the ingredients; the JS was the best of both worlds for me! Fried rice was a little dry but still good, adding some soy sauce helped. Not a fan of the cheese wontons though, the filling was too sweet and wonton shell was not fried/crispy enough - wouldn't order again. I was also disappointed that chopsticks, shrimp sauce, and soy sauce weren't included with the order. I usually get more than enough from other sushi places I've ordered from. It wasn't the end of the world, I had everything but shrimp sauce at home, but I like to put shrimp sauce in my fried rice so that was kind of a bummer. With hungry teenagers, I tend to go out for sushi when there are lunch specials. 3 rolls for $14 sort of deals. Because at dinner prices that same teen could order 3 rolls at $14 each. Adding up to a crazy bill for a family of 5. But at Kazu Sushi Burrito, their "any two rolls for $10" is available all day. So any time I feel like swinging by -- after picking a boy up from practice, after school, after a game, whenever, it's not a big deal, and I don't miss the lunch prices. A twofer roll and Freestyle Coke, and the kids are happy. And if it's Tuesday, don't forget twofer Tuesday at the ice cream shop next door for dessert. For myself, I can custom build a salad bowl or burrito to fit the diet du jour. Low carb? Just cut out the rice and crunchy bits. And the menu is really expansive. Almost as many options as a full service sit-down restaurant. But served up fast food style. Remember, the Kazu on San Jose is the "real" sit down restaurant. Not at all like the Burrito Bowl fast-food spin offs. Really great place, but a very different experience on the palate and the wallet. read more

We originally came on for a sushi burrito, but after we saw that they offered a "buy two signature sushi rolls for $10," we knew we couldn't pass that up. So, we ordered the sweet potato roll, avocado roll, dynamite roll, two fried spicy tuna rolls, and fried spicy salmon roll. We also ordered a surf and turf sushi burrito. The place is clean and well kept, and we were so happy the water was filtered! The sushi burrito came out really quick, and it was decently sized. Not even to split and feel full, but definitely stuffing if you eat it yourself. The sushi came out looking fresh and it was beautifully plated. The fried sushi we got was crispy, fresh, warm, and the cream cheese melted in your mouth. That and the crunch and flavor the jalapeños and sriracha being made the two fried rolls one of our favorites. The sweet potato roll is so good! Highly recommend. The dynamite roll is great as well, even the avocado roll was great and it was just simple avocado. We loved all of the rolls we got, and it had all the qualities you want for your sushi. I was able to walk in with no wait and look at the menu to decide. I picked the Hawaiian sushi burrito, with corn, mango, cucumber, crab, and seaweed. It was easy to order And I was able to sign up for their rewards program, which I didn't know they had. I didn't have to wait long for my order, and the lady brought my food to me to take out. I have always liked this place, but writing a review now because of their amazing service after hours on 4th of July. We got back from the beach late and wanted to get a quick dinner. Family decided on Kazu, but stated they were closed at 5pm. We got there at almost 6pm. There were people seated inside and out, so I peaked my head in. The owner/manager said "come in". I asked again to make sure and he insisted that they were still cooking and still taking a few orders. Wow! We were so excited and placed our order and were out the door in about 10 minutes. Looked like they were having a staff/family meal and had already been putting out food. They still welcomed us in and weren't put out at all. This is how you run a successful business, especially a restaurant, in this area. As for the food, always well done. We had various sushi rolls, coconut curry soup (my favorite) and an assortment of dumplings. All are delicious and exactly what you'd expect. Buffalo Chicken dumplings are a highlight. We've also had the salmon fried rice (that needs to be on the permanent menu!) and hibachi, also flavorful and delicious. Thanks Kazu for making our July 4th that much better! read more

Both are great, but tonight sealed the deal when they made us another shrimp tempura roll to make up for missing a detail in how I ordered it (trying to get my youngest to try sushi, I'd requested the rice on the outside.) They went above and beyond to make us happy. The food is fresh and tasty; We recommend their poke bowls, sushi, the coconut curry soup, and the steak hibachi. Good drink options, too. BEST NIGIRI SUSHI IN JAX. I've tried nigiri sushi at a few places in the Jacksonville area and no other places compare to Kazu. I thought this place only had sushi bowls and burritos so when I asked if they offered nigiri, David was more than helpful to guide me through the menu. I got their sushi special which came with 7 assorted nigiri sushi pieces and either a California roll or tuna roll. However, they allowed me to replace the tuna roll with a salmon roll since they had a feeling I loved salmon! They even went as far as replacing the white fish sushi which I'm not really fond of with salmon belly! (Amazing customer service) Kazu also offers Uni and Fatty Tuna which I've noticed not many places do. So if you ever get a chance, definitely give those a try. (I have yet to try the Uni but in sure it's as fresh as can be) As for the nigiri, absolutely amazing. Fresh, plentiful, melts in your mouth. Lots of places go more on the rice and less on the fish but this place, has the perfect amount of fish to rice ratio. 10/10. This was the first time I had been, and it was pretty good. However, I was super annoyed that their pricing is incorrect on their laminated menus and on their ordering slips. When you order a bowl or wrap, you fill out a piece of paper that says what you want in it. It then says things like "2 proteins $12" or Kazu Bowl $15 -- and gives prices for any add-ins. It turns out that everything is $1 more than what is stated. When mine rang up $1 extra, I asked if it should have been $12. She said everything went up a dollar, but they hadn't updated the menus. She also said they had a sign up for a while, but it had been a long time, and it had fallen down by this point -- but they had too many of the ordering slips. Considering that the ordering slips are just black and white text on a half piece of paper, this seems like purposefully deceptive pricing. read more
