My least favorite was the tuna since it was just really lean and nothing special. The quality of the fish is good. Nice Japanese draft beer. The decor is cute with a fake cherry blossom in the corner. Ambiance can be improved with music and maybe if the sushi chef chatted/interacted more with the customers.

I ordered the C5: 6 Handroll Set (Crab, Salmon, Tuna, Scallop, Lobster, Daily Special (hamachi this particular day) $35. Crab 6.5/10 Salmon 6/10 Tuna 2/10 Scallop 0/10 Lobster 3/10 Hamachi 0/10 At first glance, I noticed how big the fish portion was for a handroll but if you're going to serve that much fish, you want to make sure it's as fresh as possible, otherwise the taste will be overwhelming...in an unpleasant fishy way. Also I've never been served cooked scallop at a sushi restaurant, generally it's slightly torched or dressed in some creamy mayo type based. The scallop handroll caught me off guard bc it was cooked and chewy. By the 4th roll I literally couldn't eat anymore bc of how much fish was served in each hand roll which generally should be a plus but because the fish seemed not as fresh, it was hard to enjoy. The girls I was with ordered several nigiri which also had noticeable large portions of fish but most of them were covered in additional toppings/sauces which help offset the fishiness. But if you just want Japanese without paying a gold brick and taking out a second mortgage on your house, Miyo Yakitori and Sushi is pretty damm fine. * * * a) Japanese curry is a utility dish in most Japanese restaurants ... and when you get down to it, in most Japanese homes. It is often what you serve on "cheap" night. Airport hotels offer it as the "free dinner" for tired travellers. The curry sauce itself here is standard issue. But they serve it with a Pork Katsu the size of Williamson county. And it is a very good Pork Katsu. That Katsu was good from Liberty Hill to Thrall and from Hester's Crossing to Jarrell. b) My carnivorous partner's Fireball Udon with Shellfish blew him away. Temperature wise and aesthetic pleasure wise. He raved about how good his udon was all the way home. c) Service was instantaneous. I think there was some sort of event horizon distortion of the space time continuum that allowed them to prepare the food and then go back in time and deliver it within a minute of it being ordered. Both of us were impressed. d) The service staff was as nice as any human beings could possibly be. * * * Great food. Great service. The folks who live in the apartment complex that Miyo is in are very lucky people indeed. Either the apartments are lovely and they get Miyo on top of that. Or the apartments are terrible, but they can still spend all their time in Miyo to compensate. Seems like a fair trade. **************** If you read the other reviews, There seems to be some controversy about this establishment. Miyo has fans and Miyo has haters. * * * Here is my read on the conflicting opinions: a) Earlier in the restaurant's history - Say about 2016, 17, or 18, The restaurant was not very good at all. I think at that time it had another name. b) There was a name change and quality went up. Sometimes when this happens there is an ownership change (or there is an owner who swaps out the management and cooking team to put in new blood.) However, things got fixed, they got fixed. c) Miyo's yakitori is apparently still not where it needs to be. I am not a huge Yakitori fan. If your broiled meat on a stick is not $80 an ounce Wagyu, Or amazing organ meats grilled in the Caucasus Barded with lamb fat and with farm fresh vegetables On another skewer for serious taste contrast ... If you are not at that high level, I don't want to pay for meat on a skewer. There are people who DO like Yakitori. They do NOT like the Miyo versions of that. * * * Yakitori is less than 20% of Miyo's menu. The rest is sushi or wonderful cooked dishes. Lay off the skewer food and you can do well here.

But when it's done REALLY well, apparently there is a huge difference, because Japon has completely ruined mediocre hibachi for me. Everything tastes incredibly fresh, the meat is always cooked beautifully, the vegetables are perfect, the rice is ridiculous, and I could probably consume an irresponsible amount of their sauces. The food is actually so good that it inspired me to start buying fresh vegetables, good meat, rice, yum yum sauce and sriracha and making my own little version at home. It isn't Japon, obviously, but that's how much we love this food. What really deserves recognition, though, is their consistency. We've visited both locations, they've been absolutely SLAMMED, and somehow the service is still exceptional. We've never sat around forever waiting to be acknowledged or wondering where our server went. The staff is attentive, friendly and efficient every single time we've gone. The atmosphere at both locations is beautiful and lively, and of course there's the whole experience of watching your meal prepared right in front of you. Even the little details make it feel like a complete dining experience--from sitting down with a cold Topo Chico and fresh lemon to the little orange treat at the end. It's one of those restaurants where you leave already thinking about the next time you can justify going back. Yes, dinner for two can turn into a splurge. When we finally sat down at a regular table, we waited about 15 minutes without a server coming by. I eventually flagged a server down, and we got our order under way. We requested the manager stop by to tell him about the issue with the reservation and the fact that his hostess needs additional training, and surprise, the manager was also not helpful. He did apologize for our reservation being lost, but blamed it on the system and denied any responsibility for taking care of it - basically just told us that "life is life". He did not offer a discount or any kind of relief for the setbacks or bad service. I wasn't expecting the world or anything, but good hospitality dictates that you do more that basically tell us to just deal with it. For the food: the sushi was pretty gnarly - it looked like somebody was angry at the fish when they were slicing. Most things needed salt. Steak and fried rice was good, but the vegetables were pretty much raw. I can forgive quite a bit when it comes to service, especially on graduation/mother's day weekend. But honestly I'm a little impressed at how little the entire staff cared about their guests.
