Kelley's is about a twice per month choice. We often order the steak finger appetizer. It comes with gravy and is a meal if you have a small salad with it. All of the food is good country cooking with huge portions. The management has improved service. Everyone is cheerful and eager to please with just the right amount of attentiveness. I've thought about eating at Kelley's but honestly the 3 star Yelp rating kept me away. Also the prices seemed a bit steep for what it is. Well today, I decided I'd give them a shot and while I wasn't blown away I'd say I was satisfied. I ordered the Sunday special. It's actually a pretty good deal. For 13.99 you get an entree and three sides. I chose Turkey & dressing and the sides: yams, broccoli & cheese casserole, and green beans. The yams, unfortunately, are still on my plate and will remain there. They're bland and not very good. The casserole was good, rice was thoroughly cooked and broccoli cooked just right as well, cheesy and not bland but also not too salty, green beans were your standard green beans, the turkey and cornbread dressing wasn't the best I've ever had but definitely hit the spot I needed it to hit and is something I'd eat again. I wasn't sure if they'd also included cranberry sauce with my order. They did and that was a nice surprise. The dinner roll was huge and very soft. Cornbread was ok, I guess, but a little plain tasting if flavor is something you're expecting. I'd say they met my expectations and I'll consider them in the future for possible "after church" or "family dinner" meals when everyone wants homestyle cooking with a variety of options. I was visiting my family in Pearland and my sister wanted to take me to breakfast . She said she is always treated well at Kelly's so off we went. Shelley came over and greeted my sister to see how she was doing and to let her know to reach out to her if she needed anything. My sister ordered the French toast short stack with crispy bacon. My family eat at Kelley's twice a month, always good until today. An older couple came in with their Pomeranian dog and had it sitting on their lap with its paws and head on the table. We called the manager and she said there was nothing they could do they had a "service animal card" and the couple with the dog said we should mind our own business. If you can't go to a restaurant w/o your dog because you're so distraught, you shouldn't be eating out. And shouldn't true service dogs sit under the table? Anyone can get one of these cards. I've always been a fan of Kelly's. I've eaten breakfast there several times and have been completely satisfied with the amount and the quality of the food. This afternoon I ordered the chicken fried steak, not the lunch special but the one on the dinner menu. When they brought my plate to the table, I was shocked, it was huge. As I began cutting into it. I realized it had a very thin piece of meat inside there and lots of batter. My estimation is 2/3 to 3/4 of what was on my plate was just batter. Eggs were slightly over cooked to my liking, grits were a bit watered down, the chicken fried steak was a bit tough but all in all I still enjoyed it. I didn't come in with high expectations but what I can say is OMG the chicken fried steak was a massive portion, the gravy was good, a great crispness to the fried steak. My boyfriend got the meat lovers breakfast with hash browns and biscuit with gravy. The biscuit was cooked perfectly and nice and crumbly. I kept passing this place on my way to work, and I finally decided to give it a try during my lunch break. The outside of the restaurant looked very welcoming. Sadly, the interior of the restaurant actually felt grimy and dirty. That was a pretty big turn off. I read online that the chicken fried steak was enormous, so obviously I had to give it a try! This was probably the biggest portion I've ever seen in my entire life. The chicken fried steak took up the whole platter. It even came with a baked potato that was bigger than my head. Kellys of Pearland has good food, but after what my family and I experienced tonight I can only give them one star. The three of us seated ourselves as the sign instructed us to. A staff member taking drink orders and serving them came by our table and she was very pleasant. Meanwhile after getting our drinks and at least five minutes later, no waiter or waitress. We was not sure who our waitress was, so we asked the lady seving drinks and she pointed our waitress out. This waitress had taken the orders of two other tables that had come in and been seated after us. Now after about ten minutes of being there, she had not said a word to us. We got up and went to pay for our three soft drinks and the manager realized something was wrong , so we told her our story and she was very polite and offered to make things good. We had a bad taste in our mouths at this point. Its now four hours after all this occured and no one in my party can figure out why our waitress would not serve us. We were dressed nice, we smelt good, and we are always nice. One thing I can tell is that we happen to be the only people of color (African American) in that half of the restaurant and our waitress was a mature white lady with blonde hair and the area was near the kitchen entrance. I'm not sure if she would not serve us because we are African American or what, but anyone else experience this type of service, then for awareness everyone need to know and stop eating thre. I am also curious to know if the Manager spoke to this waitress about what ever her problem was with serving us or just swept it under the rug. There will be a long time before I go back there. For some reason, I came here and decided to try it since I had seen it before n thought it looked good along with being grilled and not just serving the fried kind.
