Ordering remotely was fairly easy...I filled out a form on their website with details of what I wanted, and received a response back from them within a couple hours. I celebrated a "milestone" birthday recently and my husband asked Key West Cakes to make a gluten-free cake for the occasion. What arrived (a three-tier, dark chocolate cake with raspberry filling and white icing with flowers) was without a doubt the most beautiful and delicious cake I have had in the 16 years I've been gluten-free! My non-celiac friends were a little doubtful about the idea at first (let's be honest: gluten-free isn't always that tasty!) but they were deeply impressed at the taste and texture of this cake. I've had quite a number of items from Key West Cakes, and have know many people who have sampled a variety of their goods. I've never heard anything but raves. Personally, I have a passion for cupcakes. These are unquestionably the best. They have a huge variety of delectable combinations, all of which (as far as I've seen) are filled as well as topped with rich, perfectly smooth and creamy buttercream frosting. The carrot cake suited our needs. It was just for my husband and me. We bought it to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. They even were willing to deliver it to our hotel. We had a small cake for our little beach wedding and it was beautiful and tasty (we don't have the pictures yet, so I can't post it right now). It was a white cake with Bavarian cream filling, frosted in white and decorated with white chocolate starfish and seashells, brown sugar "sand," and a fine dusting of what looked like multicolor glitter. It looked stunning and was absolutely delicious. The frosting was not a buttery buttercream frosting, and I think that wouldn't have held up in the August heat anyway. Yummy! Everything is good! The Strawberries and cream cupcake and the Boston Cream cupcake are personal favorites. Flowers inserts are metal on top. I had one of my wedding guest almost swallow the metal. They are pointing the finger somewhere else instead. Well the flowers should have been removed. Well nothing was written on box. And place where we ate works with them on a regular basis.. they should have known better. I was so glad there was no little kids at the reception.. otherwise i would have had to rush them to the hospital. I ended up throwing a 175 dollar cake away and could not save any of it for my first year celebration. Watch before you buy.. ask questions.. and find out what the cake is made of! Icing was very very thick and almost impossible to cut into. Try another baker.. Publix would have been better choice. read more

Seeing the bride cry from disappointment is unfortunately going to be a strong memory with me for years to come. It wasn't what we agreed on. A horrible cake with horrible service. Half the agreed-upon decorations were missing and the cake fell apart - just crumbled - when it was cut. The caterer couldn't believe it. $450 on a cake and it was like something that came out of a Easy Bake Oven. That was bad enough, but once the owner knew we were dissatisfied, they wouldn't take our calls. I guess they knew a destination wedding in Key West makes us a one-time customer. read more

Key West Cakes did our vintage inspired wedding cake. Beautiful, delicious and great service....what more can I say. We did a two tier naked cake with drizzled caramel and cupcakes with piped frosting and a sprinkle of toasted coconut. The cake was moist, the frosting was light and the presentation was simply perfect. I will post photos later so you can see just how beautiful the cake really was! Most amazing cake place I've ever been to! I'm not from Key West, but decided to celebrate my 30th birthday there. I checked out their website before making any decisions and their cakes were beautiful. I sent in a request for a quote with a picture of the cake I wanted. They responded within 24 hours and told me the exact price it would come out to. They even were able to deliver it to me since I was staying in a Key West vacation rental. Anyway, the cake turned out just as beautiful if not more beautiful than the picture I sent in and the red velvet was DELICIOUS! I'd give this at least a 3, but the server was just plain horrible. I don't know if she was having a bad day, but my daughter's friend asked a question, and she was just incredibly dismissive and patronizing. The customer was only 19, and I don't know if the server resented her being there or what. Plus, after placing the order, she said there was a $10 minimum on any credit card purchases. And she wasn't apologetic or nice about that either-she acted like I was a moron for even trying to use a credit card. The cookie was nice enough, but it would have had to have been gilded in gold to make it worth dealing with the service. I hope this was an unusual circumstance. read more

Paul (the owner) refused to deliver our wedding cake to Smather's beach. I understand that the zombie ride was taking place, but he didn't deliver the cake late nor did he deliver the cake to the restaurant we were heading to. Nope. He just hung up on me and refused to respond to me and the wedding planners. His response on these online forums has been that he responded in a timely manner an that they should have delivered the cake to another location. Well, neither of those things happened. Even two weeks later I am outraged by Paul's lack of remorse for what he stole from me and my husband. Paul's temper tantrum cost us a major part of our wedding ceremony. They had days to try to make this up to us, bu they did not. We received a half-hearted apology from Lauren (not Paul) at 3:03 PM ---nearly 48 hours after our wedding. We NEVER received any apology from Paul himself in a private medium; he's only "apologized" in this public forum. What an @ss! read more

This is a genuine gem of a bakery and I featured their luscious cakes for 2 separate events, a few days apart. The first was for a birthday cake for my husband's 70th birthday. I provided them a design that I was contemplating. They quickly agreed and I had some of the cake topping items (toys) shipped to them. The result was a beautiful cake that "told the story" for my husband.....and was also truly the best tasting cake we've ever had. Even my husband (who is not a big cake fan) keeps raving about how delicious it was! The 2nd cake was a spur of the moment cake for my 1year old great granddaughter. With little input (only name and age) they designed 2 fantastic cakes (one was Gluten-free) that were decorated in true Key West fashion with sugar starfish and sea shells. SOOOO Beautiful! I love, love, love this place! They are at the top of my list. The staff was also very wonderful, communicating with me multiple times to make certain the order was just right. Love them!!
