The food is a creative take on Indian classics -- the Stuffed Banarasi Aloo and Ragda Pani Puri were incredible starters, and the Jackfruit Cutlet is a must-try for any vegetarian. The cocktails are equally well-crafted. Portions are on the smaller side and prices reflect that, but the quality makes it worth it. End the meal with the Rasmalai Tres Leches -- it's a showstopper. This place has food from various areas of India and they seem to be adding their own flair to the traditional dishes. Def a lot of creativity but not necessarily hitting the mark with flavour. While some dishes were unique, the inflated price points seem to offset the value here. The naan was typical/mediocre, smaller than normal tho. The Biryani rice was basically tiny broken pieces of rice with mounds of unseasoned broccoli and carrots. It lacked the flavour profile I was expecting for a $30 small pot dish. The server was very friendly and helpful with the suggestions. It was loud, as expected for a Saturday night but not terrible. The drinks were interesting, def worth trying. We were supposed to go to the Lot but went past Khaki so we decided to try it. We got there around 8:50 pm and didn't realize they close at 8:30 pm. Great Christmas Day food experience. When we circled whole San Ramon trying to find a place to have a bite, we saw this Indian restaurant in City Ceneter. Manager greeted us with open arms. We ordered two chai tea - delicious. For started we had charred lamb chops - four charred chops crispy outside and tender and juicy inside, very impressed. We had the Malapayalam chicken, and the salmon tikka appetizers. The chicken was absolutely delicious. A bit spicy, but doable, if you're a veteran. For meal, we had the mutton (beefy tasting), in-bone chicken, the prawns, and the paneer pinwheel. In-bone chicken was superb. Pinwheel paneer quite ​distinctive. I was excited to try Khakhi mainly because the menu is designed by the chef of Tia Restaurant -- one of the best Indian restaurants in the U.S. and my personal favorite -- so expectations were high. The vibe was okay and has upscale potential, but there's room for improvement. We had a reservation but still waited to be seated, and water service was a bit slow. The complimentary mini cocktail samosas were a nice touch. Chicken tikka was decent but not the creamy malai-style we expected. The mushroom dish was good and reminded us of Tia's version (though Tia's is better). Drinks were a highlight -- guava punch and cherry cardamom soda were both excellent. Champaran mutton and dal makhani were overall decent, though the dal had a bit too much cream. Parathas were good but turned hard within 10 minutes. I know this restaurant is new, so I really tried to show some grace -- the food itself was good -- but the overall service and organization definitely need work. When we arrived for dinner, the maitre'd seated us but forgot to give us menus, which she brought back a few minutes later. Our server never introduced himself, and throughout the meal checked on us maybe twice. After our appetizers came out, there was a long gap before anything else arrived. We later noticed our server sitting in a booth behind us, seemingly on break -- without letting us know or arranging for coverage. Even at a casual chain restaurant (Applebees and Chilis), that sort of thing is handled better. I asked two different staff members for yogurt, and the wait for that was so long that I eventually just asked for the check and had our food packed to go. When I paid, there was no "thank you for coming in tonight!" or "have a nice evening" from the server- bro had me tap and that's it's . The maitre'd was polite enough to say goodbye on the way out, which I appreciated. There were also a few odd moments during dinner -- the entire staff disappeared for a few minutes for what seemed to be a team meeting (complete with a loud cheer in the kitchen), leaving guests looking around wondering where everyone went. A delivery came through the dining area mid-service, and I was asked to move my baby's high chair so boxes could be brought through. It felt very disorganized. A few other things: only two bottled beers were available, and the taps seem to be for decoration. The chefs walked around the restaurant a few times but didn't greet anyone or smile -- it all just felt cold and awkward. Also no baby changing stations in the bathrooms, FYI! Overpriced & Poor Service Despite Nice Location I visited Khaki recently and was quite disappointed. The location is great, and we chose to sit outside, but the experience overall was not pleasant. The food was very expensive for the portion sizes--definitely not worth the price. The service was unsatisfactory: the staff forgot to bring our appetizer, and even water had to be asked for multiple times. To add to this, the tea plate served was chipped/broken, which made the experience feel careless. For the reputation and pricing, I expected a much better dining experience. read more

Khaki is newish Indian fine dining restaurant, though I'll probably put it between casual and fine dining. We went there at around 6:45pm on a Friday evening. The place was already half full. There signature cocktail and Champaran meat were good but nothing to write home about. Their Lamb Bihari Kabab was very good and their rotis were excellent. By 7:30pm the place were full and the staff were running around serving customer. From that time onwards, the quality of service started to go down. I felt that they had way less staff then needed for a busy restaurant like Khaki. For the price I expect more prompt service. read more
