Went with friends for dinner and its the first time after 35 years living in LA that I have experienced a restaurant for dinner that does not have an Alcohol License.....they don't mention this in their advertising. To be honest, I'm pretty thrown off that my experience varied so differently than the 4.5 star average experiences I saw on the Yelp page. I love Thai food so much and go to Thai restaurants frequently, and this is by far the worst Thai place I have gone to so far. The restaurant is located tucked in the back of a small but cute shopping center off Ventura blvd. Parking is pretty good especially in the evenings, since the parking meters are no longer in effect. The location and the atmosphere of the restaurant is great. The inside is clean and the outdoor area has lights stringed up to take you away from the fact that you are a footstep away from the parking lot. In that aspect, they do a great job! The issue started as soon as we waited to be seated. It was a Friday night, but not at all packed. We waited for 30 minutes to be seated, as there were several clean open tables of seats that could have been sat in. There was a group of four ahead of us waiting, and they literally waiting 30+ minutes with us just for a waiter to eventually come along and push the two tables together (that were already super close together anyway). In my opinion, that is wasted time. If you cant take orders thats fine, but at least seat us while we wait if there are literally clean and open tables. The person I was with was incredibly frustrated because he himself is in the service industry, he basically summed it up as they care too much about the current customers and not at all about the potential customers. Once we were finally seated, the waiter was rude and not at all apologetic for the unnecessary wait. In terms of the food I have mixed reviews. I had a yellow chicken curry dish that was too watery and not at all as flavorful and delicious to the usual versions I have ordered. I was really disappointed with and out of a scale of 1-5 I'd easily put it at a 1/5. The person I was with really loved the spicy basil over rice, but I tried a few bites and wasn't crazy about that either. I'm not sure if the people rating this place are just loyal customers or if we caught them on a bad night. But this was a pretty bad experience. read more

I am always curious about all 5 star reviews... If you check the other reviews of the people who gave this place 5 stars... You will see that there is not a place where they go that's not 5 stars... They say this authentic Thai food... I guess I am more of a Pink Pepper and Rustic Spoon type of guy... I thought the Chicken Curry was okay at best... I would never order it again... There was very little chicken... The grilled beef was much better... The place is nice and clean... But, if your there, just go to Chin Chins... Much better food and you can get a beer... Amazing service! This is probably the first and only review I have done. The food is great and consistent. After the delivery driver mixed up my order and delivered someone else's order the restaurant took it apon themselves to fix the problem with out any question. They apologized for the inconvenience even though it was not their fault, They redelivered my correct order at no charge. Will be ordering again. read more

This place is new and clean with free parking. As for food, spring rolls barely had any vegetables inside. Green papaya salad was delicious but too spicy even after we asked for mild. Thai salad with tofu was a total disappointment. If you are going to name a salad after a country, it should be more than chunks of iceberg lettuce, tomato and cucumber with few tiny strips of tofu. Tofu is fairly inexpensive source of protein for vegans and should be used generously. Green curry dish with eggplant had undercooked eggplant and was not edible. Spicy green beans with rice was tasty though. I don't think we are coming back. read more

We just finished an absolutely delicious dinner of Panang Curry with chicken and brown rice and roasted duck (with spinach) over rice. Quite authentic and made without MSG. The owner told us he has been to Thailand 61 times. We sat in the outside patio, surrounded by ficus trees with mini lights. I am thinking this would be nice with a group of friends as well. The khao soi noodle soup was one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life. I want to eat it everyday until I die. Also had the drunken noodles, which were very good, but paled in comparison to the khao soi. Delightful patio to eat on and friendly service. They don't serve wine or beer, which would be a nice addition to the menu. Dropped to four stars bc of their seemingly erratic schedule. Closed for about five or six days for Labor Day weekend. Finally an authentic Thai restaurant of amazing quality in our neighborhood! Our office is nearby, so we have ordered lunch many times. It's consistently superb. The ingredients used are fresh and of good quality, the taste is impeccable full of culinary surprises. If you are trying to deviate from your daily boring options, you'll be very pleased. You may have to ask them to tone down on spicy if you are not used to it. The service is superior. The outdoor patio is a great plus. This is really the BEST thai restaurant in the valley, the food is ALWAYS on point and the service is really really great. The owner has even helped us out personally a couple of times and I cannot say more good things about this place. My favorite items are the fried rice (regular and crab), the pad thai is excellent- flavor on point, not too sweet, the shrimp cake balls are THE BOMB, as well as the Tom Kha Soup. Pretty much everything I've had from here has been excellent and I am very very picky about Thai food. 5 stars isnt generous enough.
