It's been over 10 years since the last time we went to Kihei Caffe, and indeed this place still holds up! Some changes over these 10 years: first, they accept credit cards (woot!). Got some breakfast at this highly recommended spot around 10 am on a Saturday. There was a bit of a line outside but it didn't take more than ten minutes until we were able to order inside. We got the berry parfait, the corned beef hash and ordered some drinks. Once we ordered we got a small table outside. Food arrived pretty quickly. The corned beef hash was a fantastic dish. Can see why it's a local favorite. Together with the eggs and fries, great combination of flavors. Biscuit was also excellent. My wife didn't enjoy the berry parfait as much. The vanilla flavor of yoghurt overpowers the flavor of the granola and fruit too much. Overall still a very good breakfast. read more

We used to love Kihei Caffe and come here every time we were in Maui. The banana macadamia nut pancakes were phenomenal - but now they are kind of a let down, very soggy and not a ton of macadamia nuts anymore. They also got rid of their pineapple syrup which was what really made the pancakes a huge hit and accentuated the other flavors to make it a flavor bomb. The food has gone down hill drastically and I wonder if it is because of their creation of the chain. The restaurant is almost all outdoors with many tables and a very slanted countertop with stools. It's shared business space with the bar next door. You go inside to order which is a tight space and tight entrance/exit. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Overall, hit and miss at this point. Hope they can redeem themselves and stop worrying about all the chain restaurants that seem to be making their quality go down. read more

Top notch, but don't come here because you will make it crowded and it's already super busy at breakfast! This place is a staple for us when we visit Kihei side. I came late today at noon and got the last giant cinnamon roll. Was it still good? Of course it was! Chia bowl and an iced coffee rounded out my snack after snorkeling Wailea. I was able to walk here from my condo. It opens at 6:00 AM so you can enjoy breakfast as the sun is coming up across the road! You pick up a menu, which has most types of breakfast items, including a killer cinnamon roll, and then you order and pay. Your name will be called when your order is ready. I had the oatmeal with huge fresh blueberries, nuts, brown sugar and milk. Along with that, I had a latte. Both were very good. I was there on a weekday and at a very early hour, the restaurant was not that busy. The second time I came, I ordered the two pancakes with macadamia nuts and bananas. Mmmmmm good! Oh Kihei Caffe, how I miss you! We enjoyed this place so much during our trip, came three times, and we made it a point to eat brekkie here before flying back to Cali the same day! The friendly staff here is efficient, and it amazed us how fast they got our food out (bonus stars!). Not only does the food come out hot and fast, but everything is massive and packed with so much island flavor! I've had loco moco countless times in Cali and Vegas but for me, it was just so-so. However, I was WOW'd at theirs!!! WOW'd! Whatchu mean I get a choice of either 1/2 lb Angus beef burger patty, Kalua pork, Spam, chicken fried steak, or corned beef?!? This "traditional Hawaiian breakfast" over here at this place totally set the bar for me. Okay so, I am going to try and replicate their amazing Pork Fried Rice at home because that's how much we enjoyed it! Don't think it will be quite the same, but I will definitely try! Yelp pointed me to another great restaurant! Katie want to eat somewhere in the area. We had not been to this part of the island before. With the review rating and the number of reviews, I figured not only would this be a great place to eat, but we'd probably have a hard time getting in. Fortunately, we missed the crowd, or hit a lull. We found our way to the order area and I asked for eggs Benedict with something I'd never had before - cheesy grits. Breakfast and coffee was delicious. We arrived at 7:15am which was right before a major line started forming so we felt lucky. The lox bagel--for people who are used to getting this as a bagel sandwich, it comes as a plate and you have to assemble it yourself. They have a system--give them your name, order drinks first then order your food/pay No inside seating so once you walk out, the staff will guide you to a seat! Staying close by we wanted a breakfast spot. The Kihei Caffe was about 1 1/2 miles and had good reviews. They have a good breakfast and lunch menu. Seating is outside but it was comfortable. You order at the counter leave your name and go out to find a seat. They bring your food out as it's cooked, which can mean not all together, but that's cool. We got the BST sandwich, this is a bagel (your choice) bacon, spinach, avocado, tomato and cream cheese, it was awesome. I had the cheese omelette with spinach and mushrooms, it was very good and it's with home fries. We also had the fruit bowl, lots of fresh fruit very tasty. We were visiting Maui for our honeymoon and found Kihei Caffe through Yelp. We could not have been pleased. The food was delicious! My wife loved her eggs and bacon breakfast plate and turtle shaped pancake. I got the loco moco, the first time I've had it. It was delicious. The line was long but it moved quickly and the staff was very attentive and friendly. The ambiance is cool beach side cafe, eating outdoors and watching the friendly chicken and cat roam about. Okay, I never leave reviews, but I feel compelled on this one because we tried SO much of their menu and visited on 2 occasions while we were on vacation. We ate there twice and the first time was fine, the second time terrible. food is fine, the second time they lost our order and when we finally asked about it, they returned with our food the was cold and did not look appealing, tasted far worse than our first visit. The negatives are inconsistent food quality, there are extra charges like $2 more then the price on the menu if it includes eggs (other than scrambled), automatic gratuity charge if you are more than 6 (even though you wait standing in a long line to order your food and then pick up your own napkins and place setting). They do not provide any water, you have to purchase water if you would like some. There is even a fee if you want to take the food to go! Also, seating is outdoors and there were lots of flies which was bothersome. Between the six of us and the 2 visits we tried a big portion of their menu and nobody ordered the same thing twice, everything was meh. read more

Probably a 3.5 star Always a line out the door but it goes quick. They handle the people well by turning over tables after ordering at the register. This location of Kihei Caffe is located in Sourh Kihei right across of the beach. Parking is kind of difficult due to no designated lot and only street parking - especially during rush hour breakfast it can be hard. The seating is located outside only and there are many tables - they were able to accommodate our party of seven fairly quickly. The inside is tight and can get pretty hectic. The way this restaurant is run is you stand in line and wait to order your food at the front, you tell them how many are in your party they find a seat for you, and then they bring your food out once it's ready (except for your drinks, which you wait for at the counter after ordering). We ordered the breakfast burrito, pork fried rice and eggs, mochi pancakes, build your own omelette, and a side order of spam. We came during the morning rush and received our food in ~18 min. They don't offer tap water but you can buy it boxed. Everyone enjoyed their food but the highlight was the mochi pancakes because they had a chewy glutinous texture but still light and fluffy, and the strawberries were the perfect touch of freshness that came with it. The burrito was good and hearty but it only came with potato eggs and cheese - you had to pay an additional $5 to add meat to it. The pork fried rice was flavorful and a large portion but we just wish the presentation was better. We also really enjoyed the omelette; we added in ham, onions, tomato and green onions - but the onions were still undercooked the kine where it makes your breath stink like an ogre after eating it. We also got a side order of spam and I thought you couldn't mess that up because isn't spam already cooked so you just heat it up on the pan? It was deep fried and felt like had salt on top as if the sodium content isn't already high enough. Overall it's an ALRIGHT place for breakfast but nothing super special. I heard they're popular for their cinnamon rolls too so maybe next time if we come back we'll try that. The food and portion sizes are good, but we just weren't a fan of the way some things were cooked and I feel like it can be organized a bit better in terms of arriving to the restaurant and being seated. I also got the ube cold brew and the coconut one as well, I was disappointed in both. The ube one barely had a tiny hint of ube in it. Cute place when you want to eat breakfast outside. Since the weather is always nice, it's not a problem. You go inside and order first, pick up any drinks inside and then someone will help you find a table. When your food is ready they will yell out your name and bring your food to you. The food was great. They had a special menu item, the strawberry mochi pancakes. The pancakes had a nice chewy texture any the cream on top tasted like it had cream cheese. We ordered, paid, and then were seated by a host. It was all just simple patio tables and chairs, seated close to the front walkway by the street. We sat out front, and waited for our food. There were locals and tourists sitting around us. That's a good thing to find. When our food arrived, we found the reason for the recommendations we had read. It was great tasting and prepared well. A Denny's on steroids! During our visit here, we sat outside, and unfortunately, the area was dirty, which took away from the experience. I asked one of the waiters for an extra chair and he said no and did not provide an explanation. I asked another waiter and he quickly gave me an extra chair to put my things down. The service was just uncomfortable. I ordered the veggie omelette and it was loaded with onions and the cheese was watery--not appetizing at all. My husband ordered the steak and eggs, and that was a disappointment too--the steak was bland and chewy. Our kids ordered the typical breakfast, yet it was nothing but overly sweet carbs and tasteless eggs. Overall, it felt like a tourist trap or cafeteria food. We were recommended to try this place out and came for breakfast. This is located across from a beach park and close to the south maui garden we were at yesterday. You order inside the restaurant and sit on the outside. The food is delivered to the table. The bar area we sat at was a bit crooked so plates slid towards us which was amusing to me. Special was the ube coffee which was really ube flavor coffee. Some places color it purple and call it ube, this is not that kind. The POG probably had too much ice but I think it's fresh as it gets more concentrated at the bottom. The chai latte didn't reinvent the wheel. We ordered french toast and the pork fried rice with a sunny side egg. These were marked as popular menu items for breakfast. The french toast was what you expect but we poured coconut syrup on it. The better plate was the pork fried rice. We added the shoyu and pepper in the condiment basket on the table. This made the dish better. What it could really use though is some good chili pepper water! That was not out on table so not sure they had it. Overall I'd say it's a typical breakfast place. They do serve lunch so maybe the lunch is more better? I'd come back to try lunch next time we take a trip to Maui but with so many food trucks and a DDD restaurant near by, this place has some steep competition to contend with. read more

Ok so Monday morning we get into the restaurant to wait in a long line of people from our resort hotel. When we get there they have signs all over for coffee and so I ask when it's my turn, I'll take a decaf at which time the man behind the counter yells at the top of his lungs "WE DON'T HAVE DECAF HERE!" Which embarrassed me and I said alrighty then. We bought breakfast which was ok not great and decided we didn't need to give our business anymore to this "gentleman" I'm using that word lightly. Cute restaurant but not worth your time or money if you have to wait more than 15 minutes to order and you can't get what you want. Medically i can no longer have caffeine. The location and food here is phenomenal. Unlike a normal sit down restaurant, you order your food at one side of the restaurant and your drinks are served on the other side. Everything on the menu looked and sounded good but for some reason the Kalua Pork Benedict really caught my attention and I'm glad it did. Absolutely delicious from beginning to end.
