This is a honest review. 1/10 - Hard pass. Crab Benedict tasted super fishy and sent back. Wife took one bite and was very ill with food poisoning that night. I had a delicious brunch here. It has a really confusing system to get a table here for brunch however. You order at the counter and then you go up to a host stand where you get seated. Some people tried to grab tables before going to the host stand and they were told to move. So definitely follow the system. The waffle that I had was so good though and really rich and heavy. We're genuinely confused by the hype. We ordered the crab cake Benedict, pancakes, and the pineapple coconut French toast, along with three drinks. The total came out to over $100, and unfortunately, nothing lived up to the price. The Benedict was SO bland and looked unappetizing, the French toast was very undercooked and topped with canned pineapple, and overall everything just felt underwhelming. Kihei caffe is always busy with long lines lining up from 7am-10am every morning when I pass by on my way to work. They do follow the state and county guidelines so please make sure you stay 6 feet distance while waiting in line. You can choose where to sit after you order and they will call your name when they have your order ready and bring it to you. While waiting in line you can scan the QR code to check out their menu. When ordering it can be fast so be sure to have your order ready while in line. Today was a Sunday and they open at 6am every day. We decided to eat breakfast at 6am and started to line up at 5:50am. We were 5th in line, but once they opened up the line went by pretty quick. I've been here a couple of times and it's never a disappointment. We got a free cinnamon roll for supporting local and being a repeat guest. Everyone there is very hard working and kind. We got there macadamia nut cold brew which I've never tried before and it was so delicious and not too sweet. They also ask you if you'd like cream inside your coffee and they can control the cream in front of you. We also got a freshly squeezed orange juice, but the size of the cup was really small like for a child. My usual is the pork fried rice with eggs which is delicious. My boyfriend got the 2-2-2 breakfast which includes 2 eggs, 2 bacon, and your choice of 2 pancakes or French toast and you can also add fruit toppings on your pancakes if you'd like. I went in for a takeout order and had a lovely experience. The staff feel like friends and family with the way they interact with you. I had a great time chatting with the cashier who took my order and loved her recommendations. I ordered the Atkins omelette for my husband with a side of potatoes and an English muffin. For myself, I was recommended the waffle with banana and macadamia nuts (local) by a friend so I got that, side of eggs scrambled and a side of corn beef hash. Did I need all of that? Probably not but I'm 7 months pregnant and all of it sounded good so I got it all! I also got a little POG (pineapple, orange and guava) juice which was delicious. I went around to the side to pick up my order - the wait wasn't long at all. They're hustling back there in the kitchen. When I got home to indulge ... WOW. The waffle was amazing and perfectly cooked on its own. The toppings I chose plus the homemade coconut syrup, absolutely delightful. My eggs were fluffy and cooked perfectly - it has to be the local chickens, because I've never had plain eggs that tasted so good. I mixed those with the corn beef hash and YUP that right there is where it's at. I'm currently in a food coma so I'm not sure how my husbands food panned out but I can say I gave it to him before a work meeting and it was gone within what seemed like seconds, so I'm gonna say he enjoyed it. If I was you, start looking at the menu while you're in line so that you can just hand your order over when you get to the front of the line, which is the cashier's. After you've given your order, then you can find a place to sit. Your food will come to you. This isn't a sit-in, full-service restaurant where you get in line to get seated and then a waiter comes and takes your order. Don't be like the Karen I witnessed while I was in line and start demanding to get seated before you place your order and then demanding to see the manager when told that this is the policy and practice here. This is a great place to grab breakfast and it seems super local as well as a great tourist attraction. My favorite definitely had to be the loco moco - I feel like loco moco at any local Hawaiian restaurant is absolutely amazing -- so much flavor and it's extremely savory. It's very filling for breakfast, and the gravy sauce is absolutely to die for. The banana & macadamia nut pancakes were also very yummy. The pancakes were extremely fluffy and the inclusion of the nuts made it extrat nutty. It's served with powdered sugar on top as well so that's a plus. I loved the breakfast potato wedges that came with the egg's benedict -- it was very crispy and had the perfect seasoning. Just like any Hawaiian restaurant, the service was phenomenal and we felt the aloha vibe for sure. Came here for brunch on a Sunday at 1030am: Surprisingly the wait was not as long as I thought- maybe around 20 mins, the line moves pretty fast. We tried the loco moco and pork fried rice- both delicious. Also got a side of Portuguese sausage. Seating is outside only and casual. Five of us came on a sat morning around 10. Waited 20' in line. The ordering was efficient. The food came quickly!! And they were delicious. I tasted all five plates my group ordered. Here is what I recommend: - the waffle was well done, fluffy with a slight crest, toppings are a must! - French toast was good, not as good as the waffles. - scrambled eggs was nicely done, although I asked it to be soft, it came as normal, could be more fluffy and softer - the omelette was huge and well done - the potatoes were very good, soft inside and crispy on the outside, don't miss this - loco MoFo was good, above average - eggs Benedict was awesome, the poached eggs were done just right!! Anyway, you get in line, place you order and you take your receipt and go back outdoors where there's free seating open air setting. Next the waiter will call on you once your order is ready and he'll bring it to you where you decided to seat yourself. Tables were dusty and had a nice trail of ants and lovely chickens criss crossing beneath the tables. I'm a country girl so i loved that but I could see the visitors weren't so enthused. They (the establishment) seem to have raves about their portion sizes and especially over their eggs benedict so I gave the Irish style eggs benedict a try and was disappointed bc it came with fries ( I felt like we should have been given an option of what type of sides we'd like and the English muffin sitting at the bottom of the stack of corned beef and eggs were so soggy that it just became inedible. This review is strictly for the cinnamon roll which we tried based on a blog suggestion. There was nothing extraordinary about the roll, except that it was larger than most. It was on a warmer but could've done with a quick few seconds in the oven. The place was small but I'd like to return on a future trip to Maui to try other items on the menu including breakfast items and drinks. After reading many good reviews we planned to have breakfast/brunch here for the majority of our 10 days in Kihei. On our first day we arrived close to noon. The place does not look/feel inviting, but we still wanted to try it. We ordered (at a counter) cheese burger, fish tacos, fish and chips, tea and a soda. They don't offered complimentary water. Husband realized the fish was raw after starting the second piece (out of 3). He took his plate to the counter and they offered remaking it. They presented 2 smaller pieces next time. My partner I went there for comedy night. Last Saturday. It was a special event produced by Kihei Café and local comedians. Food and drink menu was actually good and fairly priced. I had a Cobb salad and my partner had hurricane fries which were devilishly good with bacon and blue cheese. They use the front dining room of the Maui Coast Hotel is their dinner theater space. It is an open air space which we prefer . The comedians were all locally based people in Maui who I've seen on and off at open mics and comedy nights.
