    House pho (large)

Just realized that many restaurants in SF were closed on Tuesday! How random!!! My family and I drove by three restaurants and found out two other restaurants we thought about going to were closed. We intended to get dumplings next door but of course they were closed as well! Back up was to go across the street to the Shanghai dumping, which also happened to be closed on Tuesday! Coincidence or what? Ended up coming here to eat since it was already 6:30pm. My husband and I wanted to make sure our toddlers were not too hungry so we settled here. There were a few smaller tables and a big round table. Ironically, the lady asked if we were willing to share a bigger circle table with two other customers. We opted to wait and it was less than five mins for the next table of four. Not sure why they seated two people at a bigger table for six instead of seating four of us at that table and giving the two customers a smaller table. Super ironic! After getting seated, we ordered our noodles; one large house pho, one bun rieu, and one egg roll. All the food came out burning hot! Terrible to feed hungry toddlers.. had to ask for small bowls to put aside the steaming hot noodles for our boys. The soup was so hot, it was like drinking something that was just boiled. The house pho had a generous amount of beef. However, the more I drank the soup, the saltier it got. It started to make my tongue uncomfortable. The bun rieu was so hot and light in crab flavor. The crab meat was bland. The eggrolls had noodles in them, which I liked, but it was definitely not the best ones we tried. Services were slow! Even when the older man came by, he dropped off ONE napkin and attempted to wipe my 2.5 year old son in the mouth (not sure why he thought it was ok to touch a customer's child). Super random! Definitely not a place we would go back to even if we had to find another restaurant to eat at.

We made reservations for a Tuesday evening and our table was ready for us when we arrived. We have probably not eaten here for 15 years. Not sure if same owners from years ago? There was only 1 table with a couple when we walked in at 6:00 p.m. dinner so it was questionable thoughts that ran through all of us! The waitress greeted us and was friendly. There is an extensive menu so it took us a few minutes to decide what to order. We decided to order family style and share the dishes so we could all try more than our own dish. Overall the food was tasty, good price and fast service. We ordered a vegetarian, beef, pork and seafood dish. The only dish most of us did not enjoy was the seafood claypot dish because mainly it had too much ginger for our taste buds! The restaurant is nothing special, very similar to most restaurants in the Richmond, but service and food is good. We did not order Pho soup, but almost everyone else in the restaurant did and it looked like a generous bowl of Pho and we probably could have ordered one to share. So it was empty when we walked in at 6, but the whole restaurant filled up with no more tables available until we gave up our table. We liked that they have 3 round tables which is good for a larger group to share dishes and be able to socialize.

They are open again! Still my favorite restaurant around the area. Same order every time I visit this place.

The service is quick and the food hits the spot! We got the imperial rolls, tofu and vegetable in curry coconut and a vermicelli bowl. All hit the spot! It's a busy location especially when the balboa has an event. It was our second time here and it was a solid choice! We would go back again.

Been coming here since I was a child and I still love it! Great people and good food. Five spice chicken - 4.5/5, so much flavor, especially on the skin. Tender meat and large portions. Combination #1 pho - 4.5/5, huge serving of pho with loads of meat! Broth tastes good, not overwhelmingly salty. Bun rieu - 4.5/5, good flavor and a decent amount of food. They give shredded lettuce to add yourself. I really like the meat they have. Imperial rolls - 5/5, crispy and hot! Paired with fish sauce.

A classic spot for your casual viet food needs. A staple of outer mission for a go to spot for pho of rice plates. Busy on weekend afternoons, we came by and had to wait a few minutes to get seated. A standard pho spot interior with just the right amount of grunge to know your soup is gonna taste good. FOOD: PHO. Always a classic and can't go wrong. Flavorful soup, but still light and with the right noodles that aren't overcooked. Excellent meat options for whatever part of the combo you like. Feel confident coming here for a solid bowl of pho. Imperial rolls. Definitely a necessary part and they hit it just right. Crispy outside, with a little bit of chew and flavorful, juicy filling with the right fish sauce dip. Classic and recommended. BBQ pork rice plate. One of my personal go tos and they do it well in their own way. A little sweeter than a lot of other places, but their pork is also a bit fattier which I appreciate as there were no dry pieces. Served with the standard sauce and always tastes good with Sriracha. Definitely a good option. Just wish it was a bit more charred. Overall a go to place for your simple viet needs. Reliable bowl of pho or rice plates. Friendly and helpful staff. I will be back.

amazing service, such flavorful pho. i loved it as is and even more with the chili sauce. couldn't finish it, was able to take a substantial amount home for a second serving

Friendly staff and seems like the locals love it here. The table carries all sorts of condiments for you to enjoy. I got the broken rice plate and bun rieu. Bun rieu was ok, I think it needs to be punchier with more shrimp paste or something. But the combination broken rice plate with egg cake, pork skin, and pork chop was excellent. They're very generous with the pork chop because it came with 2 pieces. Definitely try the com tam if you go here.

We were greeted and seated right away by a friendly waiter upon entering this mom and pop restaurant. They have an extensive menu. We decided to order the bbq pork with egg roll over vermicelli and the special combination rice plate with pork chop and egg roll. The food came out in a timely manner. The bbq pork was kind of dry and flavorless even eating it with the sauce. The egg rolls were crunchy and tasty. The pork chops were very tender, juicy, and flavorful. I can taste the lemongrass that was used in the marinate. They were cooked to perfection as well. This was one of the best pork chops that I ever had. The prices are fairly reasonable and they were generous with the portions. We will be back for more pork chops. We also want to try their fresh spring rolls, pho, and desserts.

Incredible lunch spot with portions so generous you'll never walk away hungry. The combo plate offers shredded pork, bbq chicken and prawns, a crustless Vietnamese quiche, imperial rolls and rich and salad - all for under $20! What a deal! Other delicious dishes include the crispy noodles and my date enjoyed the pork chop, which was huge and tasty. Service is prompt and attentive at this family run operation and the vibe is very casual but clean.

So glad we tried this lowkey Vietnamese spot in The Richmond. I can honestly say this was probably the best VALUE meal that I've had in all of SF thus far. For $15 you can get a massive portion of Pho with generous portions of meat--sliced beef, beef balls, tendon, and tripe. The sliced beef was very soft, tender, and juicy, and the Pho broth was very rich and tasty. Overall, the Pho that I had here was definitely one of the best that I've had in the entire city. The restaurant itself is nothing special, similar to most places in The Richmond. Small, not super fancy, but don't let that fool you because the food is phenomenal and the service is extremely fast. They had our food ready in no time. If you're craving some Pho for a low-cost and generous portion, this is definitely the place to go!

Very solid vietnamese restaurant for spring rolls and pho! I have been here a few times now and what first captured my attention was their Roll your Own spring rolls with rice paper. This is one of the few places I've found in the city that does this dish. #60 Banh hoi dac biet (combination with fine vermicelli): Comes with rice paper, imperial rolls, BBQ pork, sugar cane shrimp, and a huge plate of veggies. Definitely enough food to share between 2-4 people. You take the rice paper and fill it whatever meat/veggies you want, then dip it into their sauce (seems like a fish sauce base). #2 Pho dac biet (house special beef pho): This is their combination beef pho with tripe, tendon, meatballs, sliced beef, and flank. Great flavor and hits the spot on a cold SF day. #41 Mi xao đơn thấp cam (crispy noodle with seafood, veggies, chicken): This wasn't our favorite. I think the noodles were overcooked so it was hard. Very large portion though! #24 Bun rieu (crab paste and tomato noodle soup): This was a decent bun rieu! Good flavors but I think they are better at making pho though to be honest. If the combination platter is too much for you, try their appetizer of just the Imperial Rolls! Super crispy and sooo good. Seems like a family-run spot so service can be on the slower end when it's really busy, but they were always kind! Will definitely go back for their pho and spring rolls.

    Vegetarian pho. So good!

It didn't have a ton of flavor, but the texture was good. You can watch the chefs working right behind the counter, which is kind of cool. The whole meal came out to a little over 40 dollars after tax, so expect to pay a bit more for the experience. Overall, it's a cool spot to get fresh clean soba and it's close to Super Mira.

I was in SF one afternoon and decided to kill an hour by waiting in their line. I showed up at 3.10 PM and there was no line, I stood anyway and later the line built up behind me. Not all folks who made it before their 4 PM opening managed to get a table in the first round. The place only seats around 20 people or so and they have a mandatory requirement that each person has to order a bowl of ramen. We got the following *enoki chips: 3/5: salty, limp, greasy to the point of floating in a pool of oil. *vegan tantanmen-2.5/5- disappointed by this one. Had better vegan ramen at several other establishments. The version here has two dominant flavors- extremely smoky and bitter. The kale didn't help as well. The enoki chashu was interesting though, had the texture of meat. *classic toripaitan-4.5/5- this was good and I can see why it got the awards. Had a rich and deep taste of chicken. All the elements helped elevate the bowl. *spicy lamb miso cumin-4/5- the flavors of cumin and lamb just shone through here. If you enjoy the flavor of lamb get this. The fried eggplant was epic in this dish. Overall, not worth the wait, the vegan ramen can be avoided unless you are a vegan. Get the classic toripaitan as that was the best.

They allegedly have a few limited reservation slots but a majority of their service is first come first serve. You stand in line and wait. I would not recommend coming in large groups. In fact, I'd go as far as to say groups larger than 4 are basically contraindicated. The space inside is quite tight, think narrow, barstool-height seating and tiny tables. When my friend and I were seated after about a 40 min wait, we had spent so much time perusing the menu that we basically knew what we were going to get. Service was really kind and quick. My thoughts on the food below: Kabocha croquet: these were freshly fried and served PIPING hot. The perfectly crisp exterior and soft, non mushy interior were just the perfect textures contrasted against each other. The sweetness of the pumpkin meant that the vinegar heavy house dipping sauce was a requirement not a suggestion. The side salad also provided some freshness with each bite, not that the croquets were too greasy at all! They were well drained so just the crunch remained without the oil. Tori Tsukune: these Japanese chicken meatball skewers were HUGE and DELICIOUS. Perfectly grilled with a charred taste, relentlessly tender inside. Dipped in the accompanying soy sauce and egg yolk mixture it was simply heavenly. The yolk added a mild richness to each bite. Hotate carpaccio: this was the most unique take on scallops I've had in a while. The flavors seem strange at first glance (and first taste, if I'm being totally honest), but it took no more than two chews for me to change my tune. First off, the scallops are plump, crisply sweet, and buttery soft in the way that high quality scallops are. Next, the onion and yuzu provide a sharp yet floral aroma to each bite. The floral taste was initially jarring but became addictive. The drizzle of cream sauce on top tempered the sharpness and gave the dish a smooth finish. Truly a memorable scallop dish!! Midori udon: a scallop and pesto stir fry udon dish. This was unexpected combo when I read the menu, but it was so good! The briny and sweet little scallops were cooked to a perfect tender texture and they paired well with the mild, herbaceous pesto. The udon provided the perfect slurp. While I'm more of a soup noodle girl myself, this was an addictive and unique Japanese-Italian fusion! Niku Ramen: Taniku has a lot of inventive ramen offerings but the niku ramen stood out to me. I've had and enjoyed niku udon before, though I usually find the broth to be too sweet. This dish took all the best parts of niku udon - the mountains of tender, marinated beef, the soft boiled egg, the tender onions - and put them into a richer, heartier broth with thin ramen noodles and the outcome was fantastic. One of the most memorable bowls of ramen I've had in a while. The broth was seriously delicious. I'm such a big soup person so I keep coming back to that. It wasn't too sweet or too salty in the way that a lot of noodle soup broths are, but still managed to impart a ton of flavor. The meaty, fishy flavor was so drinkable. For the quality and quantity of food vs the price you pay, I was incredibly impressed by Taniku Izakaya!!!! Just banger after banger after banger. I saw that they have some good happy hour deals as well so I will definitely be coming back for more of their delightful apps and skewers. I cannot recommend this spot enough, there's a reason people queue for it.

I've been to plenty of Japanese/Ramen spots and I've been running into the issue where I say I have a soy allegry and there is an assumption that I have a gluten issue (I do not have a gluten issue). I noticed yelp said they have soy-free options and thus called on Friday thinking it might be a bad idea as they're usually busy.. It was defintely hard for the person to hear a bit when they picked up. The staff did relay something about gluten free noodles.. Anyways, they said they could swap out any of the soy soups for salt (but soy can encompass a lot of things so I still wasn't feeling super confident but we're going to give it a go). We go and I asked which 4 of the soups I was eyeballing don't have soy - the staff said they can accomodate and replace any of the soy soups with a salt broth. After we ordered, the staff came back and checked in to make sure that my partner also didn't have an allergy. And my dish came out, they told me there was no egg as its marinated in soy - perfect to me. I'm glad that was caught as not every establishments can account for everything. - Now I have a spot to (more safely) eat ramen! - I advise that if you do have an food allergy, do talk to the staff, and address your concerns such as cross contamination etc. I had a great experience, but I do find that because its not so regulated or understood and there is lack of education amongst the food/resturant industry - you always need to advocate for yourself and there is always a risk. I'm very apperciative of the staff here.
