Unfortunately, the Kimchi House Bulgogi didn't measure up to making Bulgogi like we've had at other Korean restaurants. The meat was too stringy and dry... it was lacking of the delicious marinade we have grown accustomed to. The Banchan (Korean side dishes) were dismal and also lacking flavor. Love this restaurant. Wonderful Korean food. I've been here multiple times for takeout and prior to covid eat within restaurant dining (space is cozy but nice complimentary hot tea). Kimchi fries are excellent! In addition to that, top recommendations would be the Kalbi, Kimchi Soondubu Soup - Pork, Seafood Pancake, and Pork Belly. Grilled Whole Mackerel, Bi Bim Bap - Hot, and japchae are very good as well. Complimentary side dishes are a bonus. Quality food and Portion sizes are great. Pick-up order call-in was very easy. Accurate ETA and easy in and out. Parking in the neighborhood can be tricky but have been able to find parking space within short 5 minute walk or in front of restaurant or across the street. I moved to the Ballard neighbourhood about a year ago, and stumbled upon this place as it was only a minute away from my place. Seating inside is a bit limited, but the food is worth it. I come about once a week and the food is amazing. The flavours are authentic, portions generous, and wait staff are great. One of the best parts of the place is the extra mile they offer. My two favorite things they do are the hot tea freely offered and when you order to-go, they package meat (in foil) and rice separately as to not get the rice soggy and keep the meat warm! read more

"Hidden gem" is the perfect way to summarize this place. It's a small family owned business just north of the main drag in Ballard, and man-oh-man do they get the job done. *deep exhale* I came here the first time tonight for dinner (Tuesday night, 7PM-ish). The restaurant wasn't packed, and service was nice. It's a smaller restaurant that probably only seats 14-16 people total. They have a short menu, but based on my experience tonight, I would guess that everything else is top notch -- kalbi short ribs, pancakes, etc. I ordered the beef bulgogi, and my friend got the beef bi bim bap ($9-11 each I think). Both dishes were great, and both came with rice. The bi bim bap even had a fried egg on top. It also had more kimchi/veggies than the bulgogi, but the bulgogi had a larger portion of meat. We also had to try the kimchi fries ($6.50) - french fries with melted cheese, topped in roasted kimchi, green onions, and a bit of sour cream and a perfectly spicy aioli. The result was phenomenal. The fries were even the right amount of crunchy! Swoon. (I feel like drunk people would go wild for this, but I was sober and I'll have you know, it was so good.) I will be back, probably very soon. Wow, we were completely blown away by this place. It's been hard to find good Korean in Seattle (you normally need to drive south to Federal Way), but Kimchi House was deliciously flavored, offered great banchan, and was extremely well-priced. We ordered the pork tofu soup, the kimchi fried rice, and the bbq chicken, and the two of us demolished everything in one sitting! I am a regular at Kimchi House, and proud of it. I come here on a weekly basis and can come here expecting the same great service and tasting food. Plus, there's free hot tea! Recommendations: Kimchi Fries and the House sandwich with beef. My boyfriend and I came here for lunch a couple of weeks ago and were super excited to try some Korean fast food. We shared the kimchi fries, he had the house sandwich, and I got the ramen. The Kimchi fries were delicious. They could have been a little hotter, but the sriracha mayo with sauteed onions drizzled over thin french fries were the perfect starter. I know I know who orders ramen at a Korean restaurant, but I was craving noodles and something soupy, so I took the plunge. It was just o.k. not terrible but not amazing either, but the sandwich, on the other hand, was bomb. Delicious tender slices of beef smothered in delicious sauce, contained in a perfect crunchy/soft french baguette. It was delightful. Next time, I will be trying the beef bulgogi combo platter and the kimchi jjigae (kimchi tofu soup). By the way our neighbors were eating them we could tell they were delicious. Just outside of the hustle and bustle of mid-Ballard is Kimchi House! I've not had more solid, well-priced Korean food anywhere in the city! This place is awesome! The spicy pork is my go-to favorite, but the hot pot bibimbap is also a favorite. Next time I just need to ask for the egg on the runny side (never mind what those food safety purists say!) The kimchi is great here, and the array of pickled vegetables is lovely with the food. I only wish I could remember more often to step just outside of my usual haunts in Ballard. It's here! Kimchi House is cute and "hole-in-the-wall" but it legit gives me Asia feels (complete with K-pop music and actual Asians eating inside) so that's pretty cool in Scandinavian Ballard. Stopped by here with my brother Saturday afternoon and it was super quiet -- only one other customer aside from us, so if you're planning on a Saturday lunch, you won't have to wait! The guy who took our order was super nice, and the food came out fast. My brother picked this place because he wanted to try the kimchi fries. They were... disappointing. The fries are like McDonalds French fries, which I admittedly love, but I expected something along the hand-cut fries spectrum. They also didn't taste very kimchi-y -- more like they were covered in nacho cheese that you get out of a pump at ball games. I'd sooner call them "ballpark nacho fries" than kimchi fries. My brother did like his kimchi fried rice, which he said had more obvious kimchi in it than the fries. I got the bibimbap in the hot stone bowl, and it was delicious! The sauce is served on the side, so you can make it as saucy (or not) as you like. I do wish the sauce were a little spicier (this one tasted like mildly annoyed ketchup), though. But my favorite part of ordering in a hot bowl is how the rice gets very crunchy and toasted at the bottom, and this one definitely did that. Yum. In short, I'd go back for the bi bim bap. Awesome to not have to drive to Shoreline to get delicious Korean! The pork belly is marinated with a sweet soy marinade and is absolutely delicious. Kalbi is also flavorful and marinated until fall off the bone tender. For less than 9 bucks, you get a generous portion of meat, rice, and two veggie sides (banchan) that tastes homemade and varies daily. On weekends, they make kimbap to go so you have snacks throughout the day! read more

This place is not bad for Korean food in Seattle but if you're looking for something compared to Annadale, VA or Ktown in LA, don't expect that here. It's good for what it is. I got the pork belly. It is pre-cooked inside, you don't see it grilled. It comes with a decent portion of pork belly with some soy-like sauce on top (not really a fan), some rice and sides (bean sprouts, cucumber, kimchi). It was about ~12 for the plate of pork belly. I also tried my friends Kalbi plate (~15), decent. I like when I or they grill the korean bbq in front of me so just a heads up they grill behind the scenes. You order first and they bring the food out. I'm giving it 4 stars because it's Seattle and I couldn't find any other korean places around plus the food was decent. I enjoyed a delicious meal of bulgogi, rice, banchan (side dishes), and a seafood pancake and Korean beer (pancake and beer shared with my dining partner.) it is a place where you order at the counter and the food is brought to you. We didn't know until after we ordered but there is complimentary hot tea and water available. It is a chill place with some of the best bulgogi I have eaten. If you would have asked me before dining here if I liked kimchi I would have said no. Now I'm a fan! I saved half of the fried rice for lunch the next day and if nothing else it got better with time! The restaurant itself is fairly small but comfortable. You order at the counter, pick up your own silverware and water (think they also had hot water/tea on the counter), and seat yourself. I had the galbi and seafood pancakes. It was pretty quiet when I first walked in but became quite busy once I left. The atmosphere is nice, small w a simple tablet square ordering in the front and tables along the sides. Hot tea and water are opposite the bench/tables. I liked the presentation of the galbi plate. I felt the cuts were a little thin and could have been cooked a little more (but I like my Gabli cuts thick and on the well done side). They had decent side dishes and the kimchi was good, better than I expected. I was really disappointed by the seafood pancake however. It was almost all batter and had virtually no seafood (except for some tiny shrimp? tossed in) and very few green onion pieces. Traditional seafood pancakes are less batter and a lot more seafood and green onions. I could eat more than a couple pieces. Save your money on that one. read more

Everything with kimchi so of course I had to order a few different things. We started off with veggie wontons which were a great start. Then we ordered the kimchi fries! They were everything I would've imagined them to be. We also got kimchi fried rice which was also really good. One of my friends isn't into anything too spicy and these were a great balance. Fantastic crispy seafood pancake with shrimp and big cubes of tender cuttlefish. Stone pot bibimbap is perfect and veggies and pickles are fresh. The Norwegian mackerel is incredible if you like grilled mackerel. The Kim chi fried rice was too spicy for me but I'm a wimp with spice. Can't wait to try more things. Plus this place had been remodeled and updated in the past few years to provide at least 5 tables indoor seating and one table outdoors and it's pretty comfy. I seem to recall it being a takeout counter with two two tops or something like that in the past. They're super nice to us here even when our toddler and baby are making a mess. As my boyfriend and I were looking for some good Asian food, we stumbled upon Kimchi House on yelp. Everything looked good online, so we gave it a go in person. You walk in and the menu is on the wall - someone will take your order first, then you sit down and gather your own utensils, water/tea, napkins, plate, etc. Luckily we came in on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all. The food came out really quickly and was AWESOME!! 1) Kimchi Fried Rice: The egg was so perfect sitting atop the mountain of kimchi fried rice... there was literally nothing I could complain about. 2) Pork (PORK BELLY!!!) Bibimbap: So when ordering, you can choose from beef, chicken, pork, or tofu. Little did we know that the pork was actually amazing pieces of pork BELLY! Oh man! We ordered this in a hot stone bowl and the rice at the bottom was crisped to perfection. They offer the spicy sauce on the side so you can put as much as you'd like. This was probably my favorite thing to eat. 3) Kalbi rice plate: Super good, stacked pieces of meat with a huge offering of rice with sides of kimchi, fish cakes, and beansprouts. Not sure why this place is rated so high, seems like reviewers are friends of the owners perhaps? Or it could be because this is Ballard's only place to get Korean food. Nonetheless people who reviewed this place seem to be unfamiliar with good Korean food. Only slightly better than Korean food served at your generic teriyaki restaurants, and they had some dishes that left me scratching my head. I had the Kalbi and shared an order of the kimchi fries. Kalbi marinade was severely lacking a variety of flavors. Tasted like they dunked poor quality short ribs in teriyaki sauce and left it to marinate for too long. The kimchi fries were barely touched by three hungry people. The combination of ingredients didn't work together and frankly it looked like a pile of vomit. But I guess you get what you pay for. Cheap prices being the only redeeming quality. I will not be coming back however, if you're in the mood for good quality Korean food I suggest looking somewhere else. read more
