This is a cute little Korean place with fast service and decent food. There is a lot of options to choose from since they have Bulgogi, Soup, pancakes, and Bibimbap. Instead of giving side dishes from the start, only certain entrees come with it, which caught me by surprise since I'm used to Korean restaurants giving them from the get-go. Wow great Korean food, and they include banchan (as they should) and roasted barley tea that hints of coffee but is caffeine free. I've tried the kimchi ramen, another soup of theirs, the kalbi beef, the dolsot bi bim bap, and the whole mackerel. All were delicious and I'm STILL excited to go back a third time and try more from the menu after stealing glances at what other tables ordered. A slightly hidden, but solid Korean spot in Ballard! The aroma's are mesmerizing. They have about 4-5 tables, and some K-pop music playing in the background. The man who took our order was not very welcoming and didn't say much. My fiancé got the Kalbi plate served with a good portion of meat, white rice, and kimchi. Besides the fact that he was knowing at the bones for meat, the taste and cook of the meat was delicious. I got the hot bi bim bap with pork. It came out sizzling hot, and was still sizzling hot when I finished my meal. There was loads of veggies, and there and could of been a more generous portion of meat, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. This place feels like it's 50% legit Korean joint, and 50% convenient food-court drop-by. The menu is small but reasonably priced (~$10-12), with most entrees coming with rice and a few ban chan dishes. Sometimes the whole meal (including ban chan) comes on a plate, and sometimes on separate dishes like your traditional Korean meal. I definitely enjoy it more when it's laid out on separate dishes (plus it means more ban chan!). Drinks (hot tea + water), cutlery and sauces are all placed on the side and self-serve. Food arrives pretty quickly and you're left alone after which can be frustrating, but at this place it relaxes me (you are expected to clean up post-meal). This is favorite restaurant in Seattle hands down. I might be bias because I'm Korean and Korean food is my favorite, but this is the only place I ever feel glad that I went out to eat. Not sure what took me so long to come here. I've been wanting to try this place but it took me falling asleep on my bus past my stop to actually make a visit. It's probably the closest Korean restaurant to my place. Swung in here on the walk back home. Cute set up not real big, looks like a lot of people get stuff to go. I liked that the banchan was still included in my to go. I ordered the Bibimbap with chicken. Flavor was tasty and there was a container of hot sauce included to give stuff a kick if you wanted. Think it was one scoop of rice with about six or seven different items including the protein of your choice. I could of used a little more chicken than what was given for the price, but I was still full and enjoyed my dish. Was looking at other diners food while I waited. I am in love with this hole in the wall for my kimchi and fried rice fix! I have been here a few times. I definitely think that it is better to dine in rather than get it taken out. The one time I did, the take out food got a little soggy in the box. The pork pot stickers were fried to a crisp. I can't decide which one is better. The kimchi fried rice is a massive serving, plenty of spices and lots of meat mixed within. The egg on top was over easy so the yolk melted into the dish. The bi bim bop bowl has the best crispy rice stuck to the bottom...It also comes out piping hot so be careful! The chopped vegetables in the bowl give it such a fresh flavor. The combo of veggies, your choice of chicken, pork or beef and the rice that gets crispy on the bottom (after cooking in a personal size cast iron pot on the stovetop) is such a treat. Grilled Whole Mackerel, Bi Bim Bap - Hot, and japchae are very good as well. Complimentary side dishes are a bonus. Quality food and Portion sizes are great. Pick-up order call-in was very easy. Accurate ETA and easy in and out. Parking in the neighborhood can be tricky but have been able to find parking space within short 5 minute walk or in front of restaurant or across the street. It's going to seem like some kind of blasphemy to NOT adore everything about Kimchi House but I just can't. The service is wonderful, friendly and warm. The restaurant is tiny and cute, and comfortable. The main thing I have a problem with is the tofu bibimbop. The tofu dish is almost the same price as the pork and only comes with 2 small squares of tofu. My boyfriend ordered the pork and it was a HEAPING mound of meat. Why are you punishing the vegetarians by being so skimpy on the tofu portions? There is no way that tofu costs more than pork, so give me more tofu ladies, it's only fair. They also sell Kimchi to go, so if you swing that way you can buy some to take with. read more

I've had this place bookmarked for a while now. Their menu states they "specialize in quick, affordable, modern Korean comfort food" so I was curious. We stopped in recently to this small little cafe. We ordered the 4-piece pork potstickers ($3.50) to start. The dumplings were crisp on one side and nicely seasoned. The dipping sauce was delicately vinegary and salty. I chose their spicy chicken for my meal. The chicken was sautéed with onions and green bell peppers and served in a sweet and spicy sauce. My meal also came with rice and banchan. I went with the highest spice level but could have done with one level higher. More gochujang for me, please!! My husband ordered their kimchi ramen with pork ($7.95). We did our usual food trade and I didn't really like the pork. It was overly boiled and a little bland. The broth was also not as kicky as I would have imagined on a kimchi broth. He liked it but I found it meh. One side of the restaurant has built in bench seating and with chairs on the other side of the tables. There was self-serve water and hot tea behind the register space. The place is small but clean. The cashier wasn't the friendliest that I'd ever encountered so I don't know if I really need to return here considering the plethora of excellent Korean places on the north side of Seattle. read more

Nice to see that Kimchi House is a very established mom and pop kind of place, judging from the many folks, ourselves included, here for dinner or for takeout. Upgrading from four to five stars. Had the beef bi bim bap - still a creature of habit. And again snagged bites from kiddo's banchan (tasty potato, bean sprouts and kimchi) - he had the flavorful kalbi ribs (also comes with a side salad and generous serving of steamed rice). What also hit the spot was the hot barley tea on this unsettled, blustery autumn evening! This time bought a huge container of kimchi to stash in the refrigerator for later. I moved to the Ballard neighbourhood about a year ago, and stumbled upon this place as it was only a minute away from my place. Seating inside is a bit limited, but the food is worth it. I come about once a week and the food is amazing. The flavours are authentic, portions generous, and wait staff are great. One of the best parts of the place is the extra mile they offer.
