The last time we were here, we ordered the Korean Fried Chicken Wings, Chicken Katsu, and Hot Stone Bowl Bibimbap with beef. This time, we decided to try their tabletop BBQ along with a few new dishes. For the BBQ, we ordered the Pork Belly, and we also got the Pig Trotters and Meat Jun. This place is amazing! Interesting experience at most. Walking into the restaurant, we liked the ambience because it's nothing too fancy and it definitely gives a homey vibe which we prefer. The menu had a good selection of items whether it being kbbq or separate entrees. We would normally resort to kbbq but decided that it was an individual entree kind of night! For an appetizer, we started off with the kimchi steamed dumplings. The dumplings came in a steamer basket. Sadly, the dumplings were not as flavorful but they weren't bad. The sauce that came with it helped boost the bite. For the entrees, we ordered the kimchi fried rice, grilled mackerel, & spicy beef soup (requested for extra spicy). The kimchi fried rice was delicious & had a nice kick to each bite. The portion also was definitely worth the price. The grilled mackerel came with two nice pieces paired with lemon. They were cooked perfectly & had a nice crunch. The spicy beef noodle soup, however, was bland. I asked the server if I could get some salt or soy sauce to adjust the broth to my liking. This would've been fine if they had just handed me both. However the experience definitely went south after that. First, the owner had asked if he could taste the broth which I allowed but didn't expect him to just stick a spoon into my bowl of soup. Then proceeded to tell me the soup carries a lot of sodium already and the broth was fine. I had told him I'm Korean and i just had an expectation of what I'm used to which he just gave a thumbs up to. Few minutes later, he came over to say that i should've said i was a younger Korean & that he'd be scolded by elder Koreans if he made it salty. I had lost my appetite once all was said and done. I normally don't complain but all in all this was the strangest restaurant experience. With the amount of good reviews, we were really excited to check this spot out & im sure it has been a great experience for others. We ordered hot and spicy rice cakes (tteogbokki) with ramen, chicken katsu, and LA galbi. The food was good, and they kept refilling your band chan, which also good and had a lot of types. My favorite was tteogbokki, and I added $2 for ramen, highly recommended! For me it's not spicy at all but flavorful and the portion was generous. The batter of chicken katsu was too thick though, you can actually see from the picture I took. The galbi was kinda burned, there were lots of burned pieces, which was a little shame. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon at this mom + pop shop. Cute hand painted pictures of food offerings on the wall, with the dining area split between bbq grills and normal tables. Got the jokbal (pork trotters) and pajeon (scallion + seafood pancake). Came with an array of banchan (kimchi, seaweed, fishcakes, julienned radish, beansprouts, garlic scapes). Jokbal was on the saltier side, some dry pieces of meat here and there. The pajeon was slightly thin, and not that much seafood. So friendly! You do have to wave down to order more food / get the check. Objectively, I thought spots in Mesa have better quality food, but this is a good alternative if in the West Valley. read more

We ordered the cold noodles, spicy edamame, beef bulgolgi, and pork and cheese tonkatsu. Historically this location has been a Korean restaurant according to the staff. So when the previous one closed they knew they had to keep the torch lit. The Banchan is delicious and I can really taste the original flavors I remember from living in Korea. I enjoy the variety and I've since been here twice and really enjoy the array of flavors. I tried the seolleongtang at Kimchi Korean BBQ and was so blown away. The broth was rich, comforting, and clearly simmered with care, and the portions were generous. First, the English server never asked us if we wanted the food remade or if we wanted it comped--just said sorry and took it back. Which is literally why this review was written--why else would I complain if this was clearly asked. I understand "perception is reality" but the reality is this doesn't excuse or explain why we didn't get refills on our side dishes after we asked, why we were ignored for 45 mins and had to call over another English speaking server, and why the bill was brought to us even when we didn't ask for it yet. My family has been long-time customers of the Korean restaurant that Kimchi Korean BBQ took over, so we were excited to try the new spot, and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the owners and staff, and, the interior was inviting and relaxed, the kind of place you instantly feel comfortable settling into. We ordered the Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake) extra crispy and the Dolsot Bibimbap. The seafood pancake was loaded with a variety of diced seafood, green onions, and vegetables. The batter was perfectly light and crispy on the outside, while soft and slightly creamy on the inside. It paired beautifully with the tangy soy dipping sauce. The dolsot bibimbap came out sizzling in a hot stone bowl, topped with rice, assorted vegetables, beef bulgogi, and a fried egg. That stone bowl creates the most satisfying crispy rice layer on the bottom. Once mixed together with the gochujang sauce, it was a full-on flavor and texture explosion, absolutely delicious. This Korean BBQ spot hits a little differently than other ones. For starters, they have tables with or without the grill. Quality meat!!! Good portion size for a fair price. We ordered the spicy chicken bao, spicy beef soft tofu stew, and kimchi fried rice (which came with a fried egg sitting atop it, cooked perfectly with a runny middle). We had dinner here tonight and it was really good. The menu inside the restaurant is much more varied than online. The food didn't taste as Americanized as I feared. The ban chan was varied, but I wish their kimchi hadn't been so fermented. And we ordered a haemul pajeon that was so thick that It came out undercooked in the middle. The star of the show was the dogani tang. This is what made me decide on this 5-star review. The broth was opaque, a sign that the bone broth was slow cooked for at least 3 days. The tendon was absolutely tender and lovely. Dogani tang isn't a standard item on menus at Korean restaurants. If you like pho, you'll enjoy this. I'll be back, for sure. read more

Came back after a few years of not having been here, at first we were unaware that there had been a change or ownership but they did not disappoint at all as everything we got was good. The creamy corn was so delicious and it's not like many other places where it's a small portion as they actually stack this plate up and you have cheese and sauce dripping on the side, which is a huge positive. Next appetizer we had was the chicken wings which were good because they were nice and crispy on the outside while being good and juicy on the inside and the Korean taco was really well put together with a good amount of meat and onion and cilantro on top with the sauce on the side. For the meat, we got the sliced ribeye and the short rib which were both really good and tender, especially because you can cook them to your own liking with those two options did not disappoint, and the Bulgogi fries really nicely put together as well. Service was good as they kept checking on the table making sure if we needed anything and constantly following up to see if there was things missing., finally the ambience on the restaurant was really nice because compared to the last time we had been there the place was really well lit up warm feeling with good music playing around, totally different experience in the last time we were here and we really enjoyed. I was bummed when Takamatsu closed and have been meaning to pop by for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised by the brightening up of the place certainly a stark contrast in ambiance (a much needed one tbh). The menu is simple and straightforward- focusing on the hits. I grabbed the kimchi stew and pork mandoo and both were so tasty and fresh. The kimchi really was sooooooo delicious! I found the service attentive and prompt! One suggestion I typically give, is suggesting a kids menu that could help introduce the developing palate to the deliciousness of Korean food. Many parents, including this writer, try to get the kiddos to expand their horizons with varying degrees of success- having a back up cannot be under valued! The greeting was pretty cold, and it didn't seem like they were all that interested in having us there. The food itself was just okay, and it took around 30 minutes for everything to come out. What really stood out though was the service, it was pretty bad. Our waitress never came back to check on us, didn't ask if we needed anything, and never even asked how the food was.
