    [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a warm and toasty option on a single digit degree day![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've been before years ago and managed to get seated at that same exact table by chance haha. We started with the chawanmushi, which they say takes 20 min to make, and the agedashi tofu. Both were pretty good and satisfying - I wouldn't say extremely flavorful but subtle as they should be. For some reason both nabes too EXTREMELY long to come lol a table was seated and got theirs long before us and we had finished our appetizers for a while. They came by and said sorry so they must have forgot? And then 10 minutes later the nabes came. They are really decent portions but I don't know if I just got full already from waiting for so long. I love the collagen nabe, the broth was really collagen packed and after reheating my leftovers, was still so good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall it's really bustling and cozy, and so good in the winter![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you're looking for a slightly upscale hot pot cozy vibe, Kimura is IT.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Kimura has been on my list for awhile, but I haven't been able to try it until recently. It was a cold day, making it perfect for this meal. My friend and I ordered the shabu shabu pot for 2. I'm used to cooking everything myself, but was so pleasantly surprised when they brought our bowl out, overflowing with veggies and meat, and said to leave it and that they'd be back to cook it in 10 minutes. As the self assigned 'cooker' in hot pot dinners, it was so nice to just be able to catch up with my friend knowing that I wouldn't have to do any of the actual cooking in the pot. They also make two sauces for you to eat with the food. After our waiter came back to mix everything together, it created a delicious and lovely soup. Cannot emphasize enough how great it was in comparison to the insanely cold weather we've been having. My only qualm with the soup is that toward the end, it gets really really salty. Could be unavoidable, but it was just disappointing because I wanted to drink some soup. What brings this to 5 stars was actually the dessert. We got a matcha almond jelly tart, and oh my god I've been dreaming about her. It's mostly a jello texture, but then in the center there's this creamy pudding that is everything and more. I could eat 10 of them.

    I stopped into this restaurant to get some lunch! When I arrived I found parking close by. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I walked into a small restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered with the wonderful owner the: Kubota Koju Sake Old Fashioned Scallop Skewers Karaoke & Wings Kimchi Beef Fried Rice Shabu Shabu with ramen The sake was great and I also loved their version of the hot pot with the ramen! It was a good experience!

    5/5 experience. I didn't realize Japanese hot pot could be this good???!! The beef quality is outstanding, and the à la carte dishes are just as delicious, the tuna crackers are a must-order. Service is quick and very friendly; they cook everything for you and even serve it into your bowl, i just sat there and enjoyed the food haha

    Food is gassss here - the hotpots are an absolute must. We got the pork belly nabe with miso flavoring which tasted so clean and flavorful. Broth is hearty and while there's not a ton of meat, it is really good. The yaki don was also really flavorful and made for a good contrast from the hotpot. Loved the way they cooked their mushrooms in this dish.

    Kimura might just be my favorite restaurant on the St. Marks Place strip now. They are known for their heartwarming hot pots, but they also have sushi, apps, rice and noodles! I ordered the below: Karaage & Wing Combo Yakitori Combo (Chicken Meatballs, Shrimp, Scallop) + Salmon Mentai Mushroom Trio Udon (Stir-Fried Noodle) Porkbelly Nabe Shabu Shabu (U.S. Wagyu beef) The yakitori had so much flavor and was grilled perfectly! My personal fav was the chicken meatball. The noodles also had a lot of mentaiko in them and different mushrooms. The nabe however blew me away. You can pick your broth and we went with their classic standard option which was perfect. The nabe is portioned for 1, but you can ask for a portion for 2 or more people if you have a bigger party. Same goes for the Shabu Shabu, which does have a 2 person minimum. It was seriously what I needed during this weather and the service was 10/10. The workers cook the hot pots for you and pour it into individuals bowls. I also recommend getting white rice on the side to eat it with!

    St. marks have always attracted a good crowd and Kimura has been here for a long long time! [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you walk in, you can already smell deliciousness and it shows with almost every table with a burner and a pot of food to share.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Kimura is known for their nabes and sukiyakis, where they vary in proteins and flavor profiles. But all contain a warm, hearty bowl of meat and veggies in a savory broth. So of course, we had to order the pork belly nabe! So I'm going to describe it just in case anyone else have the same questions we did. For the pork belly nabe, you are able to order it for yourself, however if you order for 2 or 3 people to share, the size of the hotpot changes. That's why you'll see different size pots on different tables. The size of the pot is proportional to how many servings you pay for. In my picture, it shows a serving size for 3 (both wider and taller pot than for a serving of 1 or 2). For the large pot, it does take about 20 minutes to boil in front of you before you can start eating. The staff do monitor it closely and will mix it for you in between those 20 minutes to make sure everything is thoroughly cooked. When it's ready, they bring small bowls and serve you the first time, then it's up to you and your party to self serve. They bring an extra pair of wooden chopsticks and wooden ladle for serving. In terms of taste, it's pretty homey- if that makes sense. Like pork bones simmered for a while. They also come in the side with a sesame oil - garlic sauce, soy sauce, yuzu sauce, and chili oil. Loved the chili oil! You mix the sauces yourself to create a dipping sauce so create a mix that matches your preferred flavor profile! Collectively the only gripe we had is that there wasn't enough meat and tofu, and there was an abundance of cabbage. If we had to guess, half the pot was cabbage. So we didn't end up finishing it all. Overall though, we enjoyed the service and our dinner!

    all the seafood was really fresh. The broth for the shabu shabu was well flavored and the US Wagyu was thick but not chewy. Service was also good not that many tables so you might have to wait if you don't have a reservation.

    Came here for some authentic Japanese hot pot and was impressed. The service was excellent, very friendly and helpful walking us through the menu. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the sushi to the pork belly and A5 Japanese wagyu on the hot pot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was packed, which is always a good sign.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

    We were craving some hot Japanese hotpot on a fairly cold day, so we decided to come to Kimura. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat in the covered outdoor area in the back, and it was definitely a vibe-- it almost felt like we were in an izakaya in Japan![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was fast and very friendly. - Pork belly nabe: 8/10 (yummy but definitely on the salty side) - Nigiri: 8/10 (decent nigiri-- not omakase-level, but still very fresh) - Sake: 10/10 Overall, Kimura is definitely a good option if you're craving some hotpot on a cold day. I think I slightly prefer Hakata Tonton in midtown, but Kimura was still very good!

Pork belly nabe was $28 pp but they gave a very generous amount of pork belly. We were both extremely full by the end of our meal. Service was good; they help mix your nabe and serve it to you to make sure you don't burn yourself. They also refill the garlic/chili oil/soup upon asking.

    Kimura was great for dinner! Really delicious food, and at such an affordable price, I have no choice but to give the full five stars. The chilled tofu was delicious, very refreshing during this hot summer. The spice was just right, and it went really well with the yuzu hot sauce at the table, if you want an extra kick. The takoyaki was fantastic, really rich and full of flavor. The udon was okay, not my favorite dish but it was still tasty, even if the flavors caught me off guard. The Kimura roll was really unique, it's not every day you get to try warm sushi. I was skeptical, but the roll really worked, tinfoil contraption and all. All for $100? This meal definitely punched above its weight, great option for a pretty student-heavy part of the city!

    Japanese Shabu Shabu has always been on my list to try. All I was waiting for was the right person interested in it as much as myself. This was a nice addition to St. Marks after a long hiatus visit from myself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Looks like a standard eatery with humble interior.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My surprise started when exploring the menu items. Sukiyaki beef, high balls cocktails, dessert tofus, nabes and odens - I was already convinced this place offered the distinct Japanese meals I was craving for. My boyfriend and I have a mutual love for Japanese food. When he knew and favored the idea of their Shabu Shabu, I knew he was the right guide to help me decide what was good here. Sukiyaki beef hot pot was his first dish from a past visit - and his description of the broth was the game changer of our meal. The contents were richer and flavorful, with a hint of umami. And our waiter each time kept balancing the broth with more broth refills to ensure it doesn't get salty. Those details I can appreciate. Making each slice of beef, carved veggies and tofu marinated while brewing in the pot. For high balls, if you appreciate Japanese whiskey with a carbonated citrus beverage - go right ahead and order it. The beginner in me got the peach high ball and personally I liked this choice because it's slightly sweet for me. He chose the Yuzu high ball which is the standard and has a hint of sour. Overall both of us were satisfied and our drinks were mixed well. Last was the dessert, the matcha almond tofu. Never had tofu in dessert form as this is a common dim sum dish. The matcha gel was a version Kimura made. Soft, jelloish, lightly sweet and strong matcha flavor. The texture took me a while to get used to but after 3 bites, I got into it with the natural sweetness kicking in. Funny thing, he was expecting me to be mindblown by it as he enjoyed it many times. It is growing on me and would love several tastings of the almond tofu. Light, refreshing and smooth is what I'd describe this delicate dessert. This wont be my last visit to Kimura. I want to try the Oden combo hot pot when I return. And get the infamous Hokkaido cheesecake that always seems to sell out on crowded days. You can count on it.

I am obviously biased and think they can do no wrong, but some of my staples that have stood the test of time: Kimchi cream udon, avocado tofu salad, salmon sashimi tacos, and the kani cream croquettes. I was so excited when they opened an outpost in Flushing years ago, but sadly it shuttered during COVID. It is definitely small and there is always going to be a wait, so don't be those people who come in with a huge group during prime time because they like to move (getting customers in and out) very fast.

The first four pieces were incredible - some of the best sushi I've ever had. I was so impressed with the quality and precision in preparing each piece. As the meal progressed, there were a couple misses - my boyfriend and his brother both had small bones in a piece (that wasn't supposed to have bones). The chef did provide a replacement piece, but still a bit of a bummer. Additionally, a good chunk of the course were different tuna pieces that really didn't wow me, and tasted pretty similar to one another. The urchin, salmon roe, and wagyu were also not great IMO. I was definitely happy about the overall experience, but it's definitely on the pricey side, and I think there could be a bit more variety throughout the meal.
