I love the food at Kindred! Where do I start? The Mac n cheese is good by itself, but that doesn't mean you can't enhance it. Get the buffalo cauliflower Mac n cheese. It's so good! Their cheeseburgers and chick's sandwiches are so good. So crisp and flavorful. On top of that, you get it on a Hawaiian bun. Oh, and the Brussel sprouts? Top notch. Delicious plant based comfort food on Maple Street!! I've been so excited for this place to open and it didn't disappoint. We all had the generous-sized & hearty Fried chick'n sandwich, served on a luscious brioche roll. The house-made seitan chick'n patty is huge with a great feeling of crunch. The sandwich so tall you can hardly take a bit. Heavenly. We also had side of yucca fries $7 ( a MUST DO), French fries $4, and Mac &cheese $5. All fantastic. The Mac& cheese is creamy with a hint of turmeric. The side portion is low rent special big. Like what my kids would scoop into a cereal bowl. The yucca fries are crispy, starchy and a generous portion. My teenage vegan foodie loved loved loved this place. The daiquiris were the biggest surprise. We had a mojito and a pina colada. This is one of the few all vegan restaurants in New Orleans and I definitely had to try it. Came by on a Saturday evening and it was pretty empty. There were 3 girls chilling at the bar. My sisters and I were promptly greeted and seated. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, the spicy fried chicken sandwich, brussel sprouts, mac'n cheese, fries, carrot cake, and cheesecake. I tried everything except the regular fried chicken sandwich. -spicy chicken sandwich was really good the first couple of bites. Perhaps because I was hungry? It has that beautiful crunch that I love so much. But that really stops there. Because the patty itself on the inside is a bit chewy/bouncy and maybe that's the texture of the seitan and I'm not familiar with it? I also noticed that it lack the spicy in a spicy chicken sandwich. -brussel sprouts were really good. Everyone loved it. It was fried well, light, crunchy, and not oily when you bite in to it. We loved it so much we got another order. -mac'n cheese was good, but just be mindful that you won't get that usual mac'n cheese flavor and it's more nutty. -fries were just plain old fries -carrot cake was moist and dense which is always good in my book. My little sister loved it so that's a plus. -cheesecake tastes just like a real cheesecake to me and it was so good. They won't always have the cakes since the cakes are made by local vegans and dropped off so it changes all the time. Overall I would say give this vegan chicken sandwich a try if you're ok with the chewy texture of the seitan, but that batter is really life though. Really cool plant-based restaurant with great customer service. I ordered a veggie burger with fries and "mac and cheese". The burger was cooked nicely, but there was too much mayo. I had to scrap mayo with the napkin which was super messy. The fries were nice, and although the mac and cheese did not taste like traditional mac and cheese, it was so good. I would go out my way to get this mac and cheese. For my hubby, I took him and "chik'n sandwich", and he loved it. He went on and on about the taste. We shared the brussel sprouts, fries, Mac n cheese, chicken sandwich, and classic burger. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful. The texture of the burger and sandwich is quite chewy, I did not enjoy it. I did enjoy the flavor of the breading on the chicken though. The sprouts were so good, we ordered a second one! The fries were fine, nothing great and definitely not bad. The Mac n cheese tasted like curry pasta. We ended with carrot cake and cheesecake. My sisters loved them. I on the other hand, did not care for either. I do have a huge sweet tooth so I am a bit pickier on dessert. I found the texture of the carrot cake to be too dense. So this was one of my favorite restaurants that I would frequent quite often, even took a lot of my non vegan friends to introduce them to the amazing food. I followed them on social media, and would support when I saw them at festivals. Until one visit turned into a clear race issue that I could not ignore. I was there eating like I normally do and some friends wanted to join so I got a table for 4 and told them to come right over. As I entered alone I was not asked to show a vaccination card. Immediately after me a group of 3 young white girls entered and we're not asked to provide proof of vaccination. Shortly after a young white couple entered and we're not ask to show proof. Shortly after them a mixed couple got a table and we're not asked to show proof. I know this for a fact because I had the table closes to the door where I was in the midst of everything while having a full view of the restaurant. One of my male friends enter, who's is African American and of a lighter skin tone close to my own and comes directly to my table. He was not asked to show proof of vaccination. He orders his meal as we wait for our two other friends to arrive. The other two, one with braids but a light skin tone enters and isn't immediately asked until the one with dreads and very dark skin tone enters behind him. Now the bartender is speaking of a high tone asking for proof of their vaccination card before they can sit. I was livid! It was clear what was going on and I wasn't about to let it slide. He looks through his photos and shows her a picture of his card on his phone but at this point I already want to leave and I have my friend whom just put in his order not long ago to cancel as I pay the check and we leave. What's even more sad is the bartender felt the need to call people out of the kitchen because I guess she felt her "life was at risk" which it was no where near because we aren't those type of people. It would have been different had she carded everyone coming through the door like you are supposed to but she didn't. She carded the person that looked suspect in her eyes and that will not and can not be tolerated! Smh. I haven't been back nor have I recommended to any of my clients since. Just so you know I am vaccinated so that would've been no problem. The problem was the pick and choose of who you feel needs to be carded and who doesn't. read more

We've been twice for dinner since they've opened. Had the burger and the tuna sandwich and split an order of fries on the first visit and wife had the white Russian daiquiri. All the food was very good and my wife really raved about the daiquiri. On our second visit, we were looking forward to trying the chicken sandwich, but was told once there that they were out of chicken, so ended up with burger and tuna sand again as menu was pretty limited. Both still good but was disappointed about being out of chicken. Also, their set up was a bit different each time. First time walking up to counter to order and next time being told that order would be taken at table.
