This place is all a Chinese Buffet needs to be, and no more. I can't find a way to review this adequately, but I can give you the finer points: They offer a military discount. While there's the usual Chinese food, there's also BBQ and chicken nuggets. While service is really on the edge of nonexistent, the food is great. There's a little build-your-own grill offering, a chocolate fountain & a sushi section that while minimal is actually tasty for the buffet game. I have also seen small older women with loaded plates of crab legs. I'm not personally interested in buffet seafood, I live dangerously enough in their sushi department, but if you like a flat rate for such things, eat here. read more

This was our first time eating here. We came towards the end of the lunch buffet and decided to stay for the dinner buffet. The lunch buffet was good. There were a lot of food items to chose from and everything was fresh and hot. The dinner buffet had more items than the lunch buffet including spicy and butterfly shrimp, king crab and crawfish. The sushi is good and Mongolian grill is also good. The atmosphere is comfortable and the wait staff is attentive. Never heard of this place but after we spent the day at the aquarium, my daughter asked to go to a buffet and it was her bday. We Yelped and found Kings Buffet right up the street so it was convenient. Upon entering you see how big and nicely decorated it is. The manager greeted us at the door with humor and it was so inviting. He also walked us over to our table himself. The food selection was typical of an asian buffet although they didn't have egg rolls and their ragoons were a little on the sweet side. I also didn't care for their sweet and sour sauce but I prefer mine thicker. My hubby said their watermelon was bad. I don't usually get fruit myself. All other food was hot and looked fresh. If you are familiar with Ghengis Grill or Mongolian grills, they have one inside! I was shocked. You choose your ingredients and they cook it for you. Aside from food they had plenty of desserts and a chocolate fountain. The building is pretty big with TVs throughout. Bathroom wasn't rundown like other buffet places. It's well maintained. I am giving this a 4 star rating based on comparison with all the other Chinese Buffets in San Antonio. This place recently opened and so far the better choice for a chinese buffett. The food is pretty fresh and the they have your typical chinese items along with the Mongolian BBQ option and the Sushi bar. The Sushi was "Meh" but what do you expect?! If you want Sushi you go to a Japanese restaurant. Their beef and brocolli is good and their calamari/squid was surprisingly not too chewy. Typical Mongolian as well just not a large variety of seasoning and sauces to choose from. Fresh fruits and cakes for desert were a plus and so was the chocolate fountain. Overall, the service, food and atmosphere was good. Unfortunately, like all other chinese buffets in San Antonio this one will probably start lowering their quality of food and just become like all the others in town. But for now 4 stars. read more

Can I just say I have a soft spot for chinese buffets? I mean, who wouldn't, you can eat basically anything you want and like a ton of it. And convince yourself you'll never get fat. I was suckered into going here after a long night at a country concert about beer (ok, I think that's what it was about, the songs seemed to be all about that), and I saw a commercial on late night television. I was vulnerable - I was starving, feeling deprived of decent meaningful music, and a very drunk boyfriend. I looked up on Yelp about this place, and proceeded to decide that it'd be a great idea for the next day. We went, and I was NERVOUS. I thought "oh Lord, please don't give me food poisoning". I wanted to check out so many other sites in San Antonio, and low and behold.... The wonders of King Buffet - a huge building, standing on its own (and not in a giant strip mall). I was so excited! Its super fancy entrance makes you feel like you made the right decision. I tried to be smart about trying different items - for the "1st course", I went with a small selection of each sushi available, and was NOT DISAPPOINTED. It was so good! (I mean, granted, its buffet sushi, but it was still very good!). There was even seaweed salad, which is amazing. 2nd course, I went with a crab rangoon, fried rice, lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, and I think a green baked mussel. I'm not positive. Crab rangoon - I had about one per course after this because they were delicious. I mean, really delicious, and huge. I was ecstatic! Fried rice - eh. But its ok for when you need to eat something with orange chicken or sweet and sour chicken. Sweet and sour chicken - decent choice. Not my favorite, but not bad. Pretty standard. Baked Mussel - what do they put in these things? Crack? I couldn't stop eating them! Lo mein - surprisingly tasty! Orange chicken - I don't know who here thinks their chinese food isn't good because this was the tastiest stuff I had ever had. 3rd, 4th, 5th and I don't know what other courses I had, but I did continue on trying the rest of the foods. Eventually I settled for steamed clams (or as Rhode Islanders call them, quahogs or littlenecks), green baked mussels, crawfish, shrimp, fried rice, and of course, crab rangoons. I did try something called dragon roll. No idea what it was (not the sushi kind), but it was like an egg roll. Crawfish - pretty standard, but a bit overcooked. No butter served so you kind of have to make due. No seasoning either so don't expect it to be like a crawfish boil. Shrimp - there was pepper shrimp, and yeah you have to take off the shell, but it was pretty good! steamed clams - Steamed with garlic and something else. I had maybe 100 of these, I don't know. and no food poisoning, YAY! Dragon roll - like an egg roll with zero description of what it contained. Still pretty decent though. Fried dumplings - pretty standard. Tried figuring out where the dipping sauce was but couldn't find it. __________________________ I will say, I enjoyed myself thoroughly, however: 1) It was Sunday, so we had to deal with a huge crowd, which I promptly ignored, but my boyfriend was grossed out by fat people (which is weird for a foodie boyfriend, but he might have just been hungover. His loss. ) 2) Saw the chocolate fountain. Too many kids around it though, so I avoided it like the plague. 3) We went during a busy time, which I think might account for a lot of decent food. I have noticed in chinese (and japanese) restaurants that if its a slow day, you'll get a lot of leftovers and it's just a sad experience. 4) I wouldn't touch their pizza with a 10ft pole. 5) Boyfriend had mongolian stir fry, which he said was good but a bit overcooked. 6) No description of each sushi roll. I had to use my magical sushi psychic skills to see which item was which. Bright side? There is a giant container of spicy mayo. And King Buffet ranks significantly higher than other Chinese buffets not only on the city's Northwest Side, but throughout San Antonio. Needless to say, I'm now able to list general pros & cons of each... and King easily outshines every other. Food taste and quality: 3 out of 5. King's soups are surprisingly savory with ingredients and flavor profiles more substantial than other buffets. Rice and noodle offerings are unextraordinary; however, none are at all tasteless/bad. The sushi bar is decent -- clean and appropriate setup, nice variety -- yet lacking in anything particularly notable. Similarly decent is King's stir fry station. As for the overall buffet, it seems to be stocked slightly more with chicken dishes than other meats. Regardless, all meat dishes are served hot, attended to constantly, and their trays changed out very frequently. Seafood selections are abundant in comparison to other buffets in the area. Salads, deli fixings, and desserts are all expectedly typical on the other hand. Atmosphere: 4.25 out of 5. The building itself used to be a bustling Luby's, and yet nothing exteriorly/interiorly indicates so; King's complete remodeling of the property rendered a restaurant that is spacious and modern without the tackiness/gaudiness of, say, a Chinese mega buffet in Vegas. We are definitely not buffet people but I was craving crab rangoons on a huge scale and so we ventured over to King Buffet on a busy Sunday afternoon. Boy was this place packed! There were people everywhere, you could hardly move. Totally worth it though! First we visited the Mongolian grill portion of the buffet. This is worth the cost of admission alone! Loads of fresh veggies and meats to choose from, along with a few sauces. While not perfect, I certainly would go at it again. Typically Mongolian Grill type restaurants charge by the bowl, so you feel you have to stuff your bowl as full as you can get it. Here, trips are unlimited and you can arrange your meal however you choose. It can be as healthy (or unhealthy) as you want! This restaurant advertises crab legs... There were none, although we arrived for dinner before 7pm. We were told they ran out early. Server did not present us with a check, so we went up and paid the cashier. After leaving a tip, we left... But were followed out by the waiter, who yelled at us across the parking lot, accusing us of not paying. I called the manager while still in the parking lot- he did apologize, but not without letting us know it was our fault for not paying with a check. Not really apologetic. Two stars for food. Pretty darn good! We came for Sunday dinner. My favorites were their sushi selection, egg drop soup, seaweed salad, and shrimp dishes. The fried rice was good and my son said the lo mein was good too. There was a Mongolian station. There was a fried food station with fried dumplings, cheese rangoons, breaded shrimp, breaded fish, fries, fried chicken wings, chicken nuggets, and so much more. There was also spareribs, chicken on a stick, and some kind of sausage, orange chicken, and sweet and sour chicken. My Dad loved the fried calamari and my mom loved the fried plantains. Everyone at our table enjoyed themselves. Dessert offerings were peach or blueberry cobbler, apple pie pastry, cookies, sugar coated peanuts, chocolate fountain for fresh strawberries and marshmallows, fresh fruit, different flavors of jello cubes, a variety of pudding, some small cakes and soft serve. This is my first time giving a 5-star to a Chinese buffet joint. Yeah you may find it ridiculous, however you can't really ask too much for a Chinese buffet and this place is really as good as it can get. There are plenty of choices of dishes, ranging from broccoli w/beef, stir-fried mushrooms, egg drop soup, fried rice/fried thin noodle, fried calamari, Mongolian BBQ (don't care much for personally) and plenty choices of sushi, which is actually quit nicely rolled and not soggy or came apart easily. There is 3-different types of cakes available, plenty of fruit and jello, and of course the chocolate fountains and ice cream machines are all there. The tables are nicely spaced out and your dishes are picked up quit quickly, it is quit noisy IMO but hey conversations are perfectly okay between me and my wife. For the price I paid, this is def. somewhere I would return when I am back in town later on. BTW, by the time I was leaving the restaurant around 6:30pm on a Friday afternoon, there were plenty of people waiting to be seated. So show up earlier if you want to skip the line!!!! read more

Incredible for our end of the crazy park day for our young family! Great management walked by me discretely, but audibly saying foods like vanilla ice cream was out. When they were out of something, they were quickly and freshly replaced. I like it for a few sushi options to venture, fresh mongolian style bbq with fresh fresh ingredients, and a chocolate fountain/fruit. My husband: A good variety of meat, but his favorite was the fresh mongolian bbq and dinner rolls were winners. My kids: soft serve ice cream (but kid friendly options are available like chicken nuggets, typical american chinese food, and some fried chicken classics). Lots of seafood here, but I just loved how everyone is eating and satisified...and I'm not cooking ;) I will add that there seems to be an obvious segregation of families in the non-booth seating, but safety in numbers I guess. Standard sushi options including rolls (veggie & tempura options) and seaweed salad. Seafood- mussels, peel & eat shrimp, fried fish, crab legs & salmon. Soups- egg drop, hot & sour, wonton. Apps- egg rolls, crab Rangoon, pot stickers, etc. Mongolian grill has lots of options. Unusual additions- sausage, pizza, buffalo wings. Lots of fruit, pudding, jello, cookies, choco fountain & soft serve. This isn't an exhaustive list, but should hopefully give you a good preview of what is available. read more

I didn't have high expectations going into a buffet. Past experiences have taught me that almost all buffets are lacking in quality. This place was no exception. The negatives (a couple of them anyway): The wonton soup taste like they took poorly made wontons (almost all dough) and put them in the broth from canned chicken noodle soup. The sesame chicken and orange chicken lacked any savory flavor, and were way too sweet. Their salad options were meager, at best. The positives: If you're intent on experiencing it for yourself, I will say that the best part of this place is the Mongolian grill. That was actually really good. Another nice piece was the chocolate fondue fountain. Overall, this food was pretty standard for a Chinese buffet, but cost too much for the overall low quality, in my opinion. Well, I went back to the buffet--I guess that's what I'm going to call King Buffet . . . "The Buffet." This restaurant is a transport from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. It's good stuff and the prices are really reasonable if you order more than just an entrée at a menu-based Chinese restaurants. Plus, the food is quite tasty. I particularly enjoyed the Beef with Broccoli and the wonderful sushi section. There are at least 10 - 12 types of sushi being offered. The sushi is made fresh right before your very eyes by not just one but sometimes two or three sushi chefs. These guys continuously provide fresh sushi and based upon my observations, they know what they are doing. They even offer some adventurous choices like eel and octopus sushi. YUMMO! As far as your cooked options go, there's a Mongolian Wok section where you can get cooked to order stir fry. I haven't tried that yet because I fill up on sushi. There's a salad section, fresh fruit section, several seafood items including clams, mussels, shrimp, steamed crab legs (on Fridays) as well as an entire row of greasy fried appetizers (spring rolls, egg rolls, Crag Rangoon, chicken wings, etc,). Yep, there's a wide array of choices at the King's Buffet. And, it looks super clean. I hope they keep this up with the cleanliness, the quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff. So, four stars go to the King's Buffet because this place is way better than what we usually get in the Chinese Buffet category in San Antonio. One caveat--skip the desserts. There was nothing impressive or appealing about the sweet treats on offer, but, the chocolate fountain was kind of fun to dip into. read more

This is my new favorite Chinese buffet in town. They have fairly good selection of food, stir fry dishes, seafood, sushi, and Mongolian, etc. The food is pretty fresh and the sushi is actually eatable. I really like the salmon sushi here. Price is reasonable and in my opinion, Saturday lunch at $7.99 is unbeatable. I think you get everything you can get for dinner except only snow crab legs and steaks. The restaurant is clean. Service is a little slow here that they are not collecting the empty plates fast enough. That's probably because this place is so busy. The service is terrible the two ladies that were cleaning cleaned up everyone's table except for ours we were there for a while and every time we would politely ask someone to take our plates no one would answer or they would look and walk away and do something else. They were disrespectful and this service is completely unacceptable I will never come here again the food is always delicious but this service for what we paid absolutely is undeserving of our business. Took family out for OUR traditional Christmas buffet. It had been awhile since we ate King Buffet since they moved to their new location. Server was great, professional and attentaive. Food overall was good and ok as far as buffet's go. A little pricey for 5 people...$75 dollar bill. This was my third time here. It's pretty standard when it comes to American Chinese food. I normally stick to the sweet and sour chicken (the batterrd tenders with the dipping sauce on the side.) Eh. This place is ok. The sushi photos on yelp lured me in. Sadly, out of all the sushi, the rice was super dry and falling apart, and the prevailing flavor was cream cheese. The best thing I had was the pineapple. Unfortunate. But lots of people seemed to enjoy the Mongolian grill. We came on a weekday for lunch and the place was packed! Clearly a popular place. It was super cheap. I think it was only $18 for the two of us. And we had a coupon so we ended up only paying $16. Really cheap for an all you can eat lunch buffet. My husband usually enjoys this restaurant.....not today. The selection was not bein replenished in a timely manner, despite ALL the customers paying over $30 (for a party of 2). Customers are given a glove (ONE cafeteria-lady style) to serve ourselves. We are expected to wear masks and a glove when serving ourselves, but I've seen SEVERAL people serving without masks. King Buffet is just plainly a buffet. I am sad to say that even though this is a brief review, it may still put you to sleep. The restaurant tries really hard the people are nice. They are nice enough to have an established menu if you want something personally prepared. I come here mostly for the Ribs they are actually delicious for the price you pay for entry. Unfortunately, I cannot add much pizzazz to this review as nothing truly sticks out. One thing I would add is I have heard the dinner menu is pretty good. Only reason this place gets 3 stars instead of 2 is bc I was VERY impressed by the selection. Different compared to the other Chinese buffets I've been to so it was refreshing to see new things from the food AND dessert options. But in this case different isn't better. Almost EVERYTHING was bland at best. There WERE some stars of the show but not many. It was super disappointing but at the same time it's those kind of things were you feel like a spoiled brat complaining bc there were SO MANY cool/yummy options but none of it was impressive (just me?) I do fitness (I'm aware that doesn't make as much sense as saying something like 'I'm into fitness' or 'I'm a bodybuilder' or something of that nature but I meant it exactly as I typed it) ANYWAY I don't eat like an asshole as often as the next person (or at least I try not to HA) so when I do go to a buffet, I'd want to at least enjoy it a little bit. So many options to choose from. Here are my thoughts: Sushi was not that great and didn't look too fresh. The hibachi bar didn't season my meal and didn't add any sauces so it was bland. I've had amazing hibachi food at other buffets where they season and add sauce for you. Then you can customize it even more afterwards. The regular buffet food options were delicious!
