Made reservations and 10 minutes after we were told they are waiting for a table to be cleaned then 30 minutes later we were told the same story. Visibly saw our name at the top of the list then prior to leaving our name was three spots down which was about 45 minutes after resy time. What's the point of making reservations if you can't manage the clientele. Probably need to build more time in between reservations if you can't keep up. And lastly the hostess could use a training from Chick-Fil-A. read more

First time here. Appetizers (stuffed mushrooms) were excellent as well as the salad. Ordered the Ribeye. The meat was tough and hard to cut and the steak was way over spiced. Ate less than half. Waitress seemed indifferent but did offer to get another steak. They probably could have fixed the spice issue but not the quality of the meat. This is a beautiful restaurant, the food is good, and the waitstaff is very attentive, but in spite of my asking the waitress not to bring our dinner before we had a chance to eat our salad. It arrived less than five minutes after the salad. This is totally unacceptable. It seems they are trying to feed us and get rid of us. The serving dishes and cutlery were of good quality, the bottle of Prosecco was cold, the room was nicely divided, and the waitresses were young, pretty, polite, and enthusiastic. Other than that, Kingfisher was a real disappointment. The menu is a bit confusing and although our waitress tried to explain how the choice of side dishes worked, my wife still ended up with a large Caesar's salad served by mistake. That would have been OK, except it was absolutely drenched in a creamy dressing totally inappropriate for a Caesar's salad. The few leaves identifiable as Romaine were supplemented with thick base stalks of Iceberg lettuce, again inappropriate. She tried two bites and gave up because the dressing was overwhelming. They should change the menu to say "Bowl of Creamy Salad Dressing garnished with lettuce stalks". You might say this salad had no mother and no father. I'm over stating this a little bit, but you get the point. My wife ordered the fried shrimp and I had the fried catfish. The plates were huge containing way too much food and especially too many French fries. Both the fish and the shrimp looked good, but the crust wasn't crusty and it had separated from the fish/shrimp which had an underdone, watery mouth feel. Imagine soaking the raw seafood in water overnight, preparing it while still wet, and then under cooking it. That's what it was like. We both stopped eating after a few bites. Some of the French fries were seasoned with something spicey which gave them a nice little zing and they were actually pretty good. But some had too much seasoning and half the fries weren't seasoned at all. The entire plate was covered with fries which made for way too many French fries and the ones under the fish/shrimp were limp because the seafood made them soggy. It would be unfair to call the seafood "wet", but it was certainly more watery than any fried fish I've ever eaten. At least the seafood and fries were nice and hot, unlike the jambalaya side dish which was cold and gave the impression that it was a left-over batch made a long time ago. The overall feeling was that they were emphasizing quantity over quality, which is common I suppose in restaurants catering to tourists. But I really don't like dining out with the idea of taking home half the dinner in a doggy bag just to "get my money's worth". In my experience, a restaurant review which says "large portions" is usually a danger signal. We both commented that the hush puppies would serve as a pretty good kitchen sponge. They were,,,,,,,,,,, well, spongy. Again, we each stopped after one bite. When they cleared our table, at least 95 percent of the food we were served was still on our plates nearly untouched. The waitress asked if we wanted a go box. We declined, but I was a bit surprised when she did not comment on the fact that we had hardly eaten anything. Was that because she had good manners and/or good training or was it because she just didn't care? Who knows. She was young and pretty and the Prosecco was cold, so Kingfisher has that going for them. I'm not convinced it was worth a hundred bucks though. read more

From the hostess to the waitress to everyone around, they have such great customer service! They were packed when I went and even with that they were Kind enough to be polite and patient. I'm mind blown how this place can get anything less than 5 stars. Taylor was our waitress and she was FANTASTIC. So kind and helpful and all around impressive. My husband and I both got the salads-- pepper jelly vinaigrette and Caesar. Both delicious. I got the spicy margarita... house I died jalapeño tequila was right up my alley and sooo good without being too sweet - 10/10. I got the fish with crabmeat and creamed spinach, the breading on the fish was seasoning phenomenal and hollandaise caper sauce was out of this world. 10/10. My husband got the seafood pasta and the sauce was flavorful and well seasoned with very generous seafood portions for the price. He loved. We shared the white chocolate bread pudding and it was absolutely AMAZING. This place was so impressive and literally exceeded our expectations for seafood near the bay. MUST try and worth every penny!!! Great spot. Great atmosphere. Great interior. Zero complaints! read more

The great service really saved this one from a 3 star review--our server was great. It looked like a really nice place decor-wise, and a great place to go on a date, or hang out on the patio for drinks. We decided to sit outside as it was late afternoon and less hot than it had been that day. Then came the flies. So many flies. Fly-mageddon. Probably more flies than if we had been eating next to a rotting dumpster in August. According to the server, it was "normal for this time of year." I wasn't local, so I wouldn't know. We decided to tough it out and did not ask to go back inside, there were other families out there and they were coping, so we stayed. But I'd say at any given time there were no less than fifteen (or more) flies, bombarding our food and drinks. Our awesome server brought us an electronic fly fan--a helicopter-like contraption that sits on the table and constantly whirls like a helicopter to keep flies away--but it was only effective within about a 12" radius. So I had to keep my salad and beer shoved up under the whirling blades, until I wanted to take a bite or a drink. Then the batteries died right before our food arrived, so eating was an interesting combo of using a fork with one hand and continuously waving my left hand over the plates and glass. So, be warned of the flies if you're not a local. Food-wise, the crab fingers were tasty, but a bit on the overcooked side. The grilled chicken breasts were very tasty and cooked properly, but salty--great flavor, but it made me wonder if the chef was a smoker--I don't like bland food by any means, but they went just a tad over the top. All in all I would definitely give Kingfisher another shot--but inside, for sure. read more

Given the sparkling reviews, rather a disappointing first impression. We had a larger party (several couples) but were told they didn't take reservations, and wouldn't be needed anyway. Waited forty minutes for a table, and watched another group show up for their reservation. Oh, and gave away the first table for us as we didn't respond to a text within four minutes. Very loud - i mean to be heard across the table we almost had to shout, and loudly. Around the table we had/shared fried shrimp (tasty but not extraordinary), seafood lasagna (unusual, but pretty straightforward), the crawfish etouffee (again okay, but nothing extraordinary), and a shrimp po-boy (pretty pedestrian shrimp). Flavors overall probably rated a 3.5 out of 5. The portions were all very large, if you're looking to fill up somewhere. Prices were in the ballpark of local fare, but there are several places on the causeway who each have something quite a bit tastier than anything we got at KF. Service was okay - nothing terrific. We'll try it again in a few months, maybe, but I hope they'll figure out better customer interactions. read more

It was tasty but I could tell it was doused in butter and cheese and was really heavy. I enjoyed it but just felt a little too full and stuffed after. Checked in as a party of two. Went to bar and ordered a couple cocktails. Waited, waited and waited. After we saw several couples wait a few minutes then get seated we approached staff at receptionist. Tap danced around excuses. Waited a few more and finally seated outside. Never ask for drink order and food took a long time. I've been here several times and sat at bar and was pleased with service, food and drink. Not tonight. D minus. The food here was tasty and traditional. The hush puppies and crawfish appetizers were plentiful and were not greasy, as some fried apps can be. I had the crawfish tail caprese salad, and my dinner partners had a po-boy and fish sandwich. All were prepared well without being dry - something I see often with fish. Our server was attentive and the food was delivered quickly. The place really filled up about 1/2 hour after we arrived, so became rather noisy. However, I chalk that up to the popularity of the place - well deserved. I do wish there were more drilled options, as I do not normally eat fried foods, but I would come back! read more

Enjoyed this restaurant. I am from New Orleans and food was good. Crab Brie soup, Catfish Perdu and fried green tomatoes delicious. Shrimp Poboy just ok. Need to toast French Bread. Tartar Sauce sweet. Usually more on the savory side in New Orleans. Also, house salad that came with entree was wilted. Since first thing brought to table not good first impression. Have seen this mentioned in other reviews. All in all it was good, portions large and good value. We will be returning. read more
