This has always been my go to place for a meal I know will be delicious. Typically, I get the impossible burger with a gluten free bun. It's shockingly similar to real meat and the gf bun is great quality. Today I switched things up and got the Asian noodle salad and it was perfectly cooked and covered in a delicious spicy mayo-like sauce. But had to go to the hostess several times to order food, straws for drinks and to place a to go order. The server was quick to refill drinks and take care of the other tables around but it took over 30 minutes to ask if we wanted to order. When my partner brought home the food, the salad was unpalatable. The slices of bread on top of the salad were the equivalent of biting slices of stale salt. After calling the restaurant and talking to the friendly manager, the majority of the $50 check was refunded due to their menu not being up to date on their website and doordash. This is a sad review for me, as I was so hopeful! The service was a solid 3 stars, which unfortunately out-shined the food. We had around a 30 minute wait for a party of 8, totally understandable as it was lunchtime on a Sunday. Half of which, literally half were little, little kids. Unfortunately, when it was our time, around 50 minutes later, they tried to seat us at a high top rather than a newly opened low table. This was major oversight on management and host, no way were we going to accept a high top for 4 kids under the age of 4. Sadly, we had to wait another 10 minutes for the lower table as they left it dirty and chose to seat folks that came were on the waiting list after us. The waiting area outside was so cold, I'd highly recommend they start blast heating this area. A lady had her young baby in there and it was so cold even with coats on. Finally got to our table and our waiter was pretty bad. Totally skipped over my drink and later skipped over the other couple's order (he took 7 out of 8 orders at our table and stopped?). We had to ask him if he was going to finish taking our order? This was after waiting another 10+ minutes. At this point, we didn't even care about the food, we quietly chatted about the service and were wondering what the heck is going on? We spent 2 hours here and had a good meal. The fried cod was good, I'd order again. Fries are shoestring and crispy! Fries might've been the best part! Braxton Storm (the best) beer cheese and pretzels were lacking. I didn't like the pretzels at all but the cheese was good. Very thin consistency, would've preferred a thicker cheese. Overall, I'm willing to go back, and most likely will. The menu looked great and I'd really like to keep trying new dishes. I'll be optimistic that service will be better next time and I'll be able to share a 5 star review. read more

We were skipped by two people because we never received the text. I would recommend the staff going in the waiting area people (3 steps to get there) and say the persons name you are looking for to get a table. The staff was able to able to make up for it by getting us a table quickly. We ordered the pretzel and beer cheese as an appetizer. In addition, we ordered the prosciutto wrapped baked Brie. Both were excellent! The 1883 burger was delicious with the right blend of flavor. Smaller restaurant so get there early and avoid bringing a big group to reduce wait times. read more

Cincinnati's Restaurant weeks are where most restaurants have three course pri-fixe menus. It's always a nice way to try new items. What was unique about their deal was it was dinner for two people for like $36-$40 . That's a good deal! We started with drinks and both drinks were good! First Course: We picked the Crispy Salmon Bites! They sounded good and it was different. This was certainly a good choice. They were delicious and fried perfectly. It came with a sauce and over a bed of slaw. This was a great dish to start the meal off! Second Course: I ordered the Smokey Bleu Chopped Salad and my husband ordered the Vegan White Bean Soup. Both were delicious, I love a good side salad. For me it's a good way to get my veggies. The salad consisted of chopped romaine mix, applewood bacon, tomatoes, cucumber, smoked grapes, candied walnuts, bleu cheese dressing. I do not like bleu cheese but sometimes I can deal with it. However, it wasn't bad here. My husband liked his soup. I'm not a soup person so this wasn't up my alley. Lol! Third Course: My husband ordered the Chicken & Waffles and I ordered the Mexican Pazole Braised Beef Short Rib. We ordered Kitchen 1883 via Grubhub, and wow. The delivery food was great, but I can only imagine how good it would be straight out of the kitchen. We started with the pretzels and beer cheese. You get a lot of pretzel bites in an order. They're soft and perfectly salty, and the beer cheese is great. I had the shrimp and grits, which had slices of andouille sausage as well as a handful of shrimp. The portion was not huge but definitely not skimpy. I finished the bowl and still had room for dessert (which we'll get to in a minute...). There does seem to be a significant upcharge on this entree--if you order through Grubhub it's $24, compared to $15 as listed on the menu. My husband had the hot honey chicken sandwich, which was a good sized piece of chicken on a nice brioche bun. We also ordered a side of broccoli with the sandwich, which we didn't get. One strike against 1883, but not enough to dock a star. Finally, dessert. I'm not sure I can sell it any harder than the menu: Deep-drier chocolate chip cookie dough. With a side of Nutella. Yes, please. Of all the items we ordered, these probably traveled the least well--but they were still delicious! I think they would have recrisped in the toaster oven, but by this point our stomachs were almost full and we lacked the motivation to bother. Even a little past their prime, they were great. We have been getting carry-out so much because of the pandemic, it was a real treat to dine in at Kitchen 1883. The tables are spaced apart and the staff wore their masks. We felt safe enough. The new menu had many interesting items but I decided to try the Anderson Township burger and since it was my birthday, we had desert. I am happy to report that this place tastes as great as it did before "the shut down". I have also become a silverware snob. Nice silverware is hard to find and a bent fork became a distraction!
