This Vietnamese spot in Chinatown is truly a gem! I've been meaning to go here for a while, but only got the chance to recently. When I went on a chilly day, the place was packed and we had to wait for a bit before we got a seat (but it wasn't too bad). The interior is casual with lots of Vietnamese decor and music. Service is a bit slow (maybe because they were super busy) but very nice. We got their banh xeo, nem nuong platter, banh cuon, and pho. Everything was so well-priced for NYC, huge portions, and delicious. I absolutely loved every dish and don't think I could choose a favorite. I would recommend trying other Vietnamese dishes other than your standard pho and rice plates (that you can try at other Vietnamese restaurants in NYC) and to go for one of their more unique options like banh canh cua, banh xeo, or hu tieu--all of which are more difficult to find. I always used to complain about the lack of good, authentic Vietnamese restaurants in NYC - but now Kitchen Co Ut is my go-to spot for Vietnamese food in Chinatown. The restaurant is clean and pretty spacious. The staff speaks English + Vietnamese and the menu is huge so there's something for everyone. We were fans of the banh khot (so crispy on the outside but still soft in the middle), the bo ne (which we wanted to order another one but they sold out), the crispy spring rolls, and all the noodle soups we ate were tasty. I also loved the fresh sugarcane juice that reminded me of my childhood and the strong Vietnamese coffee. We would've ordered desserts too if they were ready at the time, but all they had available was what was in the display cooler. This is the sister restaurant of Bahn Mi Co Ut, but has seating and a full menu. We came here after having their delicious bahn mi's. We ordered a bit of everything. We started with the Bi Cuon (pork summer roll) then proceeded with the Bo Kho (beef stew), Com Tam Suon Bi Cha (pork chop over broken rice), and Bo Ne (sizzle steak with sunny side egg and pate). I realized the flavor palettes here remind me very much of home and prides itself in distinctive ingredients that are key to Southern Viet tastebuds. Always very friendly workers. The rice paper was really fragile though and broke easily. It was a bit hard to eat. The Banh Khot is like Banh Xeo but in smaller circle-sizes with lettuce and fish sauce; so yummy! The Pho Bo Co Ut is the traditional pho option and the broth was tasty and hot and they gave lots of meat and noodles. In the Com Tam Suon Bi Cha rice dish, the pork chop was grilled excellent and flavored really well. I will definitely come back and try more dishes. I've been here several times and I always leave satisfied. It's a go-to Viet spot for me in the Chinatown area! I would come here to meet up with friends or even come here myself if I'm craving Viet or a nice hot bowl of pho. They have plenty of seating and the decor is nice. I never have a problem getting a table. The staff is friendly as well. Aside from my usual pho and vermicelli noodles. I have explored their specialty dishes and their #28 Bo Ne is SO GOOD. It comes to the table sizzling hot. It's a big piece of steak and a big chunk of pate, together with the sunny side egg and onions and the special sauce... it's just chef's kiss! When you assemble everything in the baguette, it's just so delicious! I also tried #21. Hu Tieu Nam Vang. "Southern Vietnam specialty noodle soup, ground pork, sliced pork, shrimp, quail egg, pig heart muscle and liver, topped with scallion and chive." It was recommended to have the broth on the side and that's what we did. I thought we had to dip the noodles into the broth, but the staff said to eat the noodles and just drink the broth on the side. But the noodles were so dry, we ended up dumping the broth into the noodle bowl. Not my favorite dish, but if you order it, I recommend having the broth in with the noodles. Although this dish was a miss for me, I still very much enjoy their other dishes. They also have a sister Bánh Mì store called Bánh Mì Cô Út that I order frequently from! I was really excited to try this Vietnamese place, but the whole experience was just meh. For my Pho, I chose the Hu Tieu Nam Vang (#21) with ground pork, sliced pork, shrimp, quail egg, pig heart and liver, topped with scallion and chive. This is a dry noodle dish with soup on the side, where you are supposed to eat your noodles first and enjoy the soup after, as our waitress explained to me and as it is also recommended on the menu. The problem is, the dry noodles were all clumped together, making it difficult to eat them. Also, the pig heart was not what I expected, being very fibrous and almost indistinguishable in taste from the liver. The soup on the side ended up being my favorite part of this dish. Maybe I should have picked a safe, classic dish like the Pho Bo Co Ut (#11). We also got the BBQ prawn skewers. They came drenched in an absolutely delicious sauce, but they were very difficult to eat as one is supposed to such the sauce from the shell, then take the shell off and eat the meat. But we found it impossible to take the prawns off the skewer, so I actually ended up eating them with shell and all. This also made it very difficult to dip them in the sauce on the side. Service was slow. Maybe it was down to me picking the wrong dishes, but I couldn't help feeling a bit disappointed after I left. read more

While good and crispy, it lacks a bit of flavor. Their beef stew with bread, I've ordered twice from here. I absolutely love this dish even though it's so simple. The flavor of the stew is rich and is packed with lots of beef and carrots. Paired with the bread, it's basically comfort food. Their southern specialty noodles were interesting. The soup came on the side so you could adjust how much soup you want in your bowl of noodles and toppings (Unlike pho where the soup is already in the bowl with noodles and toppings). In the bowl, there's a lot of flavors already and so by pouring the soup in, you do dilute the flavors of the dish. Traditional Vietnamese people do love the soup on the side to appreciate all the flavors more. But being a noodle soup girl, I do love non-dry noodles so I poured in about half the soup and that was delicious for me. To each their own! I've also come here on several occasions where we were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant was more than happy to accommodate with putting the cake in the fridge and getting it ready for us when it came time for desserts and surprising the birthday person with cake.
