    Just order the kadayif already
    Ryan T.

Service was very hospitable. They were open with every suggestion and we could not wait to eat their specialties. Oh my pants for desert order the KADAYIF. Get this no matter what. It's baked until golden and crispy, then soaked in a sugar syrup and powdered with pistachio. It's THE BEES KNEES. We also went in on the moussaka, tahini piyaz, and muhammara. Moussaka came out bubbling and layered with tenderness. The tahini piyaz hit different -- beans tossed in tahini, lemon shit, fresh herbs cutting through the creaminess. It felt like a sleeper dish, so simple but amazing . They had a Robin Williams photo in there. RIP to the goat. Ambiance is kind of nice but I went in looking like a bum like I'm some m/billionaire wealthy dude minus the wealth. This is a nice date night spot - I'd go here again but it's kind of pricey so keep in mind of that because you're paying for the elegance too. Food was delicious af tho - I want that kunefe kadayif thing agin holy crap it can give you diabetes in one bit. It's great

Perfection. I think many people rave about the wine list but the food is really something to write home about. It's a warmly-lit place and you'll find small and large parties alike, all having a good time and sharing appetizers. They had the tastiest chicken - SF foodies rave about Zuni but HAVE YOU HAD THIS CHICKEN? + a really rich and flavorful moussaka. I think we overdid it but no regrets. Next time I will order ALL the dips to share. Yum

    Atmosphere

Wonderful dining experience! The atmosphere is elegant and cozy, the service was warm and attentive, and every dish was beautifully presented and delicious. The chocolate profiteroles were an amazing way to end the meal. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend Kitchen Istanbul!

Definitely get a reservation, it can get really full in here! A lovely minimal yet classy ambiance inside with a big wine wall, we ordered 3 mezzes and 2 medium plates to share and were super full! My favorites were the Borek and Kebabs, but everything was flavorful. The service was also super sweet!

    Julie N.

Cute restaurant with very friendly wait staff. The food was okay- classic dishes done well, but nothing very memorable. The moussaka is a popular choice and it's quite filling.

    Kirsten C.

The staff was so friendly and accommodating in telling me the vegan options on the menu, or items that could be modified. The pistachio salad was delicious - they did say the normal pistachio crumble has butter, but they did whole pistachios for me instead, and it was still so flavorful and fresh! The pickles were also awesome.

Dining at Kitchen Istanbul offers a solid, journey through Turkish classics, featuring well-seasoned food and exceptionally pita bread. The atmosphere captures a nice balance of charm and modern elegance, making it a pleasant spot for a weekend dinner. While the quality of the ingredients is evident, the steep price point feels more aligned with high-end fine dining than the casual "neighborhood gem" vibe the restaurant projects.

    Is the food halal?

Hi Faraz. No, it’s not. We are working with local farms.

It can be incredibly difficult to find a venue for a crowd on short notice, but we were able to book a reservation for a party of 16 people just three days before for a Saturday night. The menu is beautifully simple, making it excellent for families. There is a very good selection for vegetarians, and it is equally great for kids (the fries were a huge hit!). The atmosphere was perfect for a celebration. Even with a large group, it wasn't overly noisy, making it very easy to hold a conversation. The vibe is versatile enough that it would be just as great for a big gathering as it would be for a cozy date night. The only minor downside is that parking can be quite tough in the area, so I'd recommend giving yourself a little extra time to find a spot. My friend and I got the fattoush salad to share along with the Chicken Shish Tawook plate and Musakhan for entrees. The salad was a nice fresh start and the charred dates added a nice sweetness. Loved the juicy chicken kebobs with a side of their delicious hummus. The musakhan had to be my favorite bite though, the chicken is so tender and flavorful and goes really well with the toasted pita. I would come back just for this dish alone! It's a counter-order restaurant which i didn't expect but it makes it a super quick sit-down restaurant to stop at and I loved sitting on their outdoor patio considering it was a nice sunny SF Sunday!

I ordered the chicken and beef kabob plate, and while the meat was flavorful, I wish they included more hummus. At around $25- $30 per plate, I expected a more generous portion. I ordered takeout and arrived about an hour later because the app never updated to show my order was ready. Surprisingly, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and they didn't start preparing my food until I got there. I mentioned that I had placed the order an hour earlier and expected it to be ready, but the server seemed to brush off my concern, which was disappointing. One highlight was the hot sauce. I'm not sure if it's house-made or not, but it's so good. The pita, however, was a letdown. I prefer my pita soft, fluffy, and warm, but this one was hard and grainy. Overall, it's a cute restaurant with decent food, but it isn't my top choice.

First, we started with a happy hour with passed hors d'ouervres: ezme crunch (tomato, walnuts, feta, tarhana chips); shawarma-spiced chicken; panisse (chickpea fries with toum sauce); dolmas (grape leaves stuffed with rice); and my favorite, the phyllo-wrapped crunchy shrimp with urfa sweet chili sauce. The plated dishes came once we were seated, and we started with a spread of dips (hummus, baba ghanoush, muhammara) with freshly-baked, warm, fluffy pita. Next came spicy blistered Shishito peppers topped with tomatoes, shoestring potatoes, and garlic yogurt; a green salad made of arugula, baby spinach, cranberries, delicata squash, goat cheese, and pepitas; patlican, meltingly tender butter poached eggplant topped with black olives, sundried tomatoes, and walnuts; and beef shish kebabs with sumac onions. My favorite appetizer bites were the warm, fluffy pita and the shish kebabs, but everything was fresh and delicious. The highlight of the meal was the mains. The Güvec was a slow-cooked beef stew with onion, potato, garlic, and red & green peppers cooked in an earthenware pot covered with a layer of dough and baked. The chunks of beef were so tender and went nicely with the side of orzo pilaf. Next came the Dorade, skin-on fillets of white fish served over a mustard cream sauce and a meltingly delicious, savory combination of chopped Swiss chard & cabbage. Finally, the Blackened Cauliflower was a super tender roasted head of cauliflower served with tahini and garlic crumbs--the dish sounded and appeared simple but was deceptively delicious! Dessert closed out the meal--the Taksim Donuts were five-spice chocolate fritters, served with mascarpone chantilly, chocolate ice cream, and chocolate sand. The donuts themselves were completely unsweetened, making them perfect vessels for the chocolate creams. And the Baklava Story was a classic dessert of baklava (layered phyllo dough with nuts) served with vanilla ice cream. Overall, the food at Taksim was absolutely delicious, and the service was super friendly and hospitable. This was a great place to host a large party, and everything came at a great value too!

There was complimentary bread which was insanely good and fluffy and warm plus tahini and an onion tomato sauce I think along with radishes and olives. The Stuffed falafel was so good and huge 1 is enough for 2 people. The mosabaha was very refreshing and so good. The meat combo was good overall and everything was very herbally spiced, I wasn't impressed by the lamb tho but the kebab, hummus, and chicken were great! I haven't had Mousakhan before so not sure how it should taste but to me it was sweet and savory with really well cooked chicken. When we arrived at around 7:30 pm, there were tables available. It's a comfortable cafe-like restaurant with mural paintings on the wall. Service was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as the ambiance and waitstaff. ***OUR PICKS*** BEEF SHAWERMA ENTREE ~ the beef was overly salted, saffron rice was ok, hummus was really thick, like peanut butter. My guy ordered this and thought it was average. 3/5 LAMB SHISH KEBAB WRAP ~ this was my dish. I ate one half of the wrap and it only held two cubes of lamb meat. The lettuce and tomatoes made the wrap bland. The meat was seasoned, but everything was plain, so it needed more seasoning. Honestly, this was missing flavor! I'll have to add something to it when I eat the rest of this wrap at home. 2.5/5 HALF ROASTED CHICKEN AND RICE ~ Our friend ordered this dish. It needed more sumac. This tasted like plain roasted chicken. Maybe it needs more seasoning while marinating. It wasn't dry, so that's a relief. Rice was ok and it wasn't dry or soggy. 3.5 We've been spoiled and have had better food in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Nothing stood out for any of us. Prices are a bit high for what you get. Sadly, probably won't be back.
