One zillion points off for super rancid croutons on my Caesar salad. I complained to two separate staff members but received essentially no response. Although I have had a couple of meals here in the past which were fine this is inexcusable. Rancid food is very risky and shows very poor management of the kitchen. Food here is so delicious and fresh- you can taste all the ingredients and practically every item you chose on the menu is top notch. Free soup wis offered when they have it and Lisa and her mom are simply two of the best people you can meet in Marin. Their Ga Pao Gai is so authentic and curry soups are incredible. I read the (mostly) glowing Yelper reviews of Kitti's, and went to check it out for lunch. When I arrived, I looked at the menu, which has a wide cultural spread of offerings. I remembered the Yelpers that loved the lettuce cups and Pad Thai, but wanted to try something a little more adventuresome, so I got an Asian fusion special: soup of the day, then a lunch plate with a red chicken curry, jasmine rice and green beans. I didn't even ask what the soup of the day was when I ordered (and they didn't offer to tell me) but it was a nice surprise when a delicate carrot-ginger soup arrived. Although it was a cup, it was an extremely generous serving. The soup was balanced and tasty. Next up, the lunch plate; the first impression was that the serving size again was generous. The chicken curry was OK. Not a lot of coconut milk, so it wasn't too rich, which can sometimes be a problem. The chicken was tender, and it had a ton of veggies (KUDOS for that...I need my veggies). However, it seemed to lack a little something: A little heat? Extra spices? I dunno. All in all, the curry wasn't very exciting, but it was good enough. Although I prefer brown rice (and I forgot to ask if they had any), the jasmine rice was perfectly cooked, and nothing ruins a meal faster than either gloopy or too toothsome rice. The green beans were way, WAY too salty. It was too bad. The black bean sauce on them tasted like paste from a jar, and I've used the paste before and made the same mistake by using too much; then again, I don't run a restaurant kitchen. I wish they weren't that salty as otherwise the texture was perfect. The beans were still a tiny bit crunchy, which is great, and they were very succulent, young beans, so they could have been exceptional. Again, too bad. Total cost for lunch with an iced tea and tip: maybe $22 or $23. My conclusion is that for Sausalito, that probably isn't too bad. But in the City or in the East Bay, I could get Thai that's likely twice as good...for about half as much, especially for lunch. I would much rather have smaller serving sizes of tasty food, at a better price. Can that be found in Sausalito? read more

Ordered linguine with creamy bell pepper sauce and it was so tasty! I can't wait to eat the other half in the fridge. Reminded me of something my mom used to make. Also probably the best Thai Iced Tea I've ever had. Quirky little place where there are a lot of regulars and the staff knows them. Prices reasonable...for Sausalito. Outdoor seating available. One small complaint was that they brought the food when it was ready instead of bringing everyone's food at the same time, but such a small kitchen, can't blame them too much. read more

I can't say Sausalito is a food destination place, but Kitti's is definitely doing their part. Their potstickers are so delicious... all bulging with well seasoned meat and a great dipping sauce. They don't have Pad See Ew on their evening menu, but since they serve it for lunch, you can get it. Trust me, Pad See Ew is SOOOO much better than Pad Thai. The only reason I docked a star was because it was a bit salty. But the kids loved it, the staff is friendly, and Sausalito is such a great place to eat outside. read more

I've been here a number of times my favorite has to be the chicken lettuce cups! The service is fast and friendly. Soup is first to arrive and is always creative. The second thing I love here is the Fish Tacos! i just love the delicate handling and flavor of the fusion of thai fish tacos. Not the best beef pho I ever had but I'm spoiled. Maybe Nathan had a bad hair day or was otherwise indisposed, but I join the scores of other visitors to this little gem of a restaurant who like the place. As a Sausalito resident for over 40 years I have seen many restaurants come and go, and ever since it opened, Kitti's has been a favorite of locals and tourists alike. Family-run (Kitti preps, mama cooks and daughter Lisa works the front), they consistently put out healthy, creative and tasty food in a flower-and plant- adorned little oasis right next to the Shell station. And the price is right, too. And if you are lucky with the weather, they have a nice front patio. We are glad to have this place in our town!! read more

No one has mentioned the amazing soups! I get these all winter long. the yellow curry is rich, full of assorted proteins, so warm and tasty. the spinach is also fabulous. full of vegetables in a clear and very tasty broth. Giant servings! Also, this is a good place to go with toddlers. they are kind, bring fruit salad to kids as you walk in, let you watch the kitchen and the Flames. it can also be fun to watch the car wash next door and see the cool statuary they have. they don't have a children's menu and really should. I suggest simple broth with some noodles and chicken. we always get our child the chicken satay sandwich so she gets chicken and fries. read more

A local gem. Kitti's serves delicious food and the service is always friendly - they make you feel part of the family. I brought a good friend to Kitti's who had spent a lot of time in Thailand and he went nuts over their Pad Thai. His comment: "Now this is real Pad Thai!" Everything they make is great. The Thai Fish Tacos are a house specialty, all the noodle dishes are great and the soups are amazing. And if the Tandoori Chicken Sandwich is on the menu drop everything and get over there immediately. Actually, drop everything anyway, their food is that good. read more

The Bay area has a thriving restaurant scene with numerous restaurants that offer diverse types of cuisines that please the senses. Yum every place. That is unless looking for a meal in Marin County where this diversity does not exist and the restaurant food (generalizing) lacks depth, flavor, and character. Without question there are a limited number of restaurants such as Insalata's, the Buckeye, and Avatar's that are exceptions. Still, in Marin, it is difficult to get a pleasing meal. On "paper" Kitti's Place located in Sausalito is an enigma. The location is convenient though it is not located downtown close to restaurant row. Positioned in a small plaza, it's easy to drive by without being aware of its presence especially as there's no flashy eye-catching sign that reels in 1st time customers. Then there is the menu. They have Asian food (primarily Thai), numerous Italian options, American food, salads, sandwiches, many vegetarian options, and unique specials of the day. Many restaurants that offer a melange of cuisine options are masters of none. And regarding the Thai portion of the menu, as there's little that distinguishes any of Marin's Thai restaurants from the others does Marin need another like-me Thai restaurant? My highest priority is on the food, its quality, does it taste good, whether the food has character, is it better than I can make. Service without question is important, though whether the service aspect is up to snuff or not has little meaning unless the food is worth going back for subsequent meals. Indeed Kitti's Place is a superb restaurant, an oasis in Marin's desolate food scene. And yes, Asian food lovers benefit from the Thai and other Asian selections available. Although the names of these selections may sound familiar, there is a difference. Where other restaurants have a more "corporate" standardized appearance and taste to their Asian preparations, Kitti's fare looks and tastes fresher, is infused with interesting flavor characteristics that reward the palette, and the selections are made using better "more Californian" ingredients. Serious home cooking (especially with ethnic cuisines) made with skill and love can beat the pants off of most restaurant food. And Kitti's Thai selections are what I envision dining on in the home of a very skilled Thai cook whose highest motivation is to provide the most delectable meal to his/her guests. From a mention years ago, I recollect that Kitti (the person) was a chef at a classy 4-ish star Italian restaurant. That past experience, in part, explains how a restaurant owned and run by a Thai family serves such a varied menu successfully. Their Italian selections are equal to what's served in most of the better Italian restaurants. Their salads are up there with the best in Marin. The various textures and the complexity of flavors coupled with the size of their salads make them a viable choice for lunch or dinner. Vegetarian options are numerous and tasty--my veg brother and his friends make Kitti's a must-stop-at place when visiting the area. As I have not had a sandwich there in years, I hesitate to describe them but to say the sandwiches I feasted on years ago including their curried turkey burger and eggplant vegetarian sandwich contributed to my enthusiasm for the place. Instead of an albatross, Kitti's diverse menu is a real benefit. No matter the size of the group or the particular food cravings or the degree of hunger of your dining partners, Kitti's likely offers satisfying options. Cousins and other family members make up the wait staff. Service is always cheerful, accommodating, and efficient. This is a comfortable neighborhood place; the interior is bright though not 5 star restaurant flashy. There are tables available outside when the weather is suitable which is always a nice option. It seems simple enough to expect a restaurant to serve tasty food presented well and that has character--especially in our food-rich Bay area. For whatever the reason, with very few exceptions, that operating concept has yet to arrive in Marin County. This makes me ambivalent about most restaurants in Marin with Kitti's being one of the few that I enjoy going to with any frequency. Unlike so many other restaurants, I am always pleased not only to go to Kitti's but am pleased at all aspects of the experience when I leave. This makes Kitti's a delightful food lover's oasis in Marin County. Do consider this review your word-of-mouth recommendation to experience Kitti's Place. Note: The hours Kitti's is open differs from many restaurants. Do call or check their website for their hours of business prior to going. read more

I was in the mood for a fresh tasting spring roll and this is the BEST one I've had yet! Created with care and precision as if it were sushi, all the flavors were perfectly represented. It was on the smallish side and a bit pricey but totally worth it. Plus the chili dipping sauce was not sticky, overly sweet or tangy. Just the perfect blend of ingredients!
