Kiyo has been open for a while. It's located in a spot where restaurants tend to change ownership, so I hadn't tried it until a friend recommended it. There was no wait on a weekday night. The restaurant was quiet, the service was attentive, and the overall vibe was nice. I ordered: Chirashi Don - Fresh Miso Chilean Seabass - Really good Seared Tuna Salad - I liked the dressing and the seared tuna Mixed Tempura - Pretty standard, nothing special, but I liked the quality of the shrimp Uni Pasta - Decent, but not very memorable Matcha Ice Cream Dessert Sake Gelato Dessert It's a bit on the pricey side, but the quality was good. Plenty of parking. I'd be interested in coming back to try their lunch specials.

I was amazed by all the dish we've eaten at KIYO Arcadia. I am usually picky when it comes to Sushi and Sashimi. But the quality here did not disappoint me. Came here on a Thursday night with few gals and we were craving some fresh sushi. The restaurant is giving a nice clean ambiance. Besides the regulat menu, they have Kiyo Omakase for $198.00 , chef's special menu, daily special menu, and a lunch special special / combo. which the prices are affordable. We ordered a little bit of everything. - LIVE Uni - LIVE Sweet Shrimps ( Sashimi) - Kumamoto Oyster with Uni and Ikura ( Half Dozen) - Premium CHirashi Don, - Phoenix Roll , Tuna Lover Roll , Banzai Roll - Miso Chilean Seabass - Kobe Gyutan Ugh.... *drool* I still cannot get over the freshness of the Live shrimp, Oyster and the Uni. That was top quality I've had. This is my first time seeig a giant live uni and it was sill moving! Uni was so fresh, rich and creamy, melts instantly and the Amaeabi has such a delicate soft texture and instant sweet flavor. They will use the shrimp head to make soup at the end for you. I also enjoyed the Chisrashi and the Tuna lover Roll. The Miso Chilean Seabass was another favorite of mine. So buttery, sweet and flavorful. Overall everything was amazing. Service was great. I'd come back even just to have a quick lunch or future gathering with family and friends.

My family has been going to kiyo for awhile! They used to have outdoor seating but are now inside only pretty much since the outdoor seating was mainly for Covid reasons. I would say it's half bar seating and half tables inside. They have some crazy fresh sushi here like their live sweet shrimp and uni. Their wagyu is a must as well and their oysters are so good!! I enjoy their chirashi as well. Service is great too.

February 2026 - No wait, small place but yums food. Food/Pricing - Mentai Pasta $21.95 - creamy, slightly salty, small portion but surprisingly filling and enjoyable. Tempura Udon $17.95 - simple and soothing soup. Spider Roll $14 - soft shell crab inside was deliciously crunchy, very much enjoyed the roll. Service/Ambiance - Quick friendly service. Parking - Plenty of parking in the plaza.

Good service, easy to follow menu, and good quality fish! Ordered the premium chirashi bowl and some others. The fish was cut thick and ended up being super filling along with the rice. There wasn't any fishy smell to any of the fish and portions weren't lacking at all. The baked lobster roll and squid ended up taking awhile- we were almost finished with our other dishes by the time it came out. We arrived right at opening on Valentine's Day and it definitely filled up quick so come early especially on a weekend!

Kiyo used to be our go to spot for lunch. They still offer a lunch special menu. Now, we come as a special treat for dinner. The sushi is always fresh. They have pictures of their rolls and nigiris on their menu on an ipad. The ipad does not tell you the price, so be wary of that. My favorite thing from here is definitely their beef tongue. It's a must every time we come. The service is great, they're always attentive and come by to check on your during your meal. The seating at the bar is nice because you can watch the sushi chefs in action. They also have specials listed behind the sushi bar that isn't listed on their menu. I would recommend this place to friends and family.

Let me just cut to the chase - 2 of my friends got food poisoning after our lunch here! One of them had a deep fried roll and the other had the lobster roll. According to them, their stomachs felt queasy. The one who had the deep fried roll had it worse (I won't go into details). I don't know what kind of sushi they serve here but I've never had friends experience such physical pain. Makes me feel soo bad for finding this place to eat after an outing together. To be fair, me and the other remaining friend were fine. But damn! First and last time coming here!

I was incredibly impressed by the food. I tried their Kagoshima Wagyu, which was hands down my favorite. The live lobster was both delicious and fun as the antennaes were still wiggling when it arrived at my table! The mentai pasta was incredibly creamy with one of the best textures I've ever had. Another star dish was the Uni Gyutofu topped with Santa Barbara uni. It was unbelievably soft, almost like ice cream. We also ordered the mixed tempura, which had a perfectly light, crisp crunch. On top of that, there's plenty of parking and the service was excellent. I honestly never expected to find such a high-end Japanese spot in Arcadia.

Yum sushi! I came during the lunch specials, and since the chirashi bowl was included, I had to try it. The sushi quality was decent, but the generous cuts of fish really stood out. It was pretty filling, especially after the complimentary miso soup. The Hokkaido uni was wonderfully creamy and fresh, loved it! The salmon carpaccio was also very good, especially with a bite of the sliced lemon. The tongue had great texture and flavor as well, another great dish!

I've been loving SGV's sushi scene, there are so many places that parallel LA sushi but are much more affordable!!! @kiyoarcadia the fish here was sooo fresh, I love their chirashi bc the sushi rice is so perfect & tangy!!!! Their sashimi salad is also so refreshing and bomb, need to get this again!! The uni tofu was so unique, they use Santa Barbara Uni & it's sooo sweet and fresh. This is a must get! The sweet shrimp was also so sweet and I would highly recommend that as well Ordered: 1. Premium chirashi 2. Mixed sashimi salad 3. Uni gyutofu 4. Mentai cold udon 5. Lobster dynamite 6. Live sweet shrimp 7. Miso sea bass

    Lori L.

This restaurant is chic and elegant with ultra fresh ingredients. The uni was one of the creamiest ever and I learned the term A+++ grade! Really enjoyed the lobster sashimi, which was a show stopping aesthetic. Definitely get the sushi plate. Everything was presented well. It was super cute vibes since there were lots of couples on their date night. A premium Japanese restaurant!

Thank you chefs and staffs for a wonderful dining experience.

Dating back to the 2nd Century BC; sushi was a favored Japanese cuisine far before any methods of…read morerefrigeration were yet invented. In order to keep fish fresh; rice was laden with rice vinegar and the fish marinaded in soy rice to keep the fish from spoiling (the rice was discarded and only the fish was consumed). As time went on, the art of sushi evolved to where the rice was eaten alongside the fish and during the Edo Period: this method of quickly fermenting with vinegar preventing spoiling; allowed for sushi to be served as street food without refrigeration even as the nigiri style so popular was born. If you are interested in this quick prep Edomae style of sushi; look no further than Arcadia's Sushi Kisen (which I assume is a play off the Japanese word, 'kaizen' meaning 'better, improved' so "better sushi") being one of the few Edomae sushi restaurants and Arcadia's first. Sushi Kisen offers 30-40 fish weekly shipped in straight from Tokyo twice a week! Located in a small corner shopping plaza on Baldwin Ave near the Arcadia intersection (about a mile from the LA Arboretum); the parking lot can be a bit congested as the plaza is filled with numerous restaurants, a bakery, a tea spot, etc. Crossing the threshold into Sushi Kisen reveals a medium-sized eatery with a sushi bar, wooden slat room dividers, and a dining area with tables and booths. Sushi Kisen eschews any bells and whistles in interior design for simplicity but the lines are still modern and clean to their benefit. My boyfriend and I were initially seated but quickly moved to allow our table to be used for a reservation that just phoned in; and thus, we were moved to a tiny back corner table where my I was two inches from the register and phone. This isn't awful, per se, but I was continuously becoming very friendly (metaphorically) with staff using the register and/or answering calls. It just didn't make me feel wholly welcome. For our sushi feast, my boyfriend and I ordered Mozuku seaweed ($8.00), Assorted Vegetable Tempura ($10), Deluxe Sushi Dinner (chef's choice nigiri and rolls, picked vegetables, miso soup, miso dressing salad - $45), Japanese King Mackerel Nigiri (2 pieces - $14), Unagi Eel (2 pieces - $13), Fatty Blue Fin w/ Takuan roll (12.50), and Glass Shrimp (2 pieces - $21.00). I am just going to get right into the nitty-gritty and say I simply did not like Sushi Kisen, at all. It might just be me (the restaurant was full so clearly people like it) and maybe I just don't gel with Edomae style. My favorites - the miso soup, salad, pickled vegetables and vegetable tempura - weren't even sushi! I love seaweed salad so I made the mistake of thinking this seaweed would be similar but it was a bowl of slop straight from the ocean and I found it putrid and inedible. But again, that may be my fault for not knowing. But what WASN'T my fault were my issues with the actual sushi: the glass shrimp was okay but a super weird texture and not worth $21 and would make more sense at half that price. The Japanese King Mackerel was the worst king mack I have ever had! It was grossly briny and "muddy" and tasted of poor quality even though I know it wasn't (but it shouldn't taste that way!). None of my boyfriend's Deluxe Sushi Dinner was that appetizing either and he didn't seem overly impressed. The Fatty Blue Fin roll was fine... but I truly sensed no flavor of any sort being simply bland. But at least it wasn't gross like much of the others that were not worth their price points. The eel was perfect - I am glad they didn't ruin that because I have quite the romance with eel. Again, I'll take some of the blame that maybe Sushi Kisen just isn't my preference but I think it runs deeper and they simply aren't as great as presented (which I can confirm from all of their recent reviews that share my same sentiment). Coupled with odd seating and a very disappointing sushi dinner; Sushi Kisen is simply not for me and a spot best decided for yourself whether worth a visit. To be fair, my boyfriend and I have had worse sushi so Sushi Kisen wasn't God-awful; but definitely not great, either.

All of our dishes, came out in time, but no drink refills were given and the server never came back to collect our check for payment. So we had to walk it up to them ourselves.
