Went back today and had their chicken fried steak; it was pretty delicious. Also, it was big enough for two grown men to share. My buddy and I split it, and we neither of us finished our half of the meal served on separate platters. I think that there are definitely guys out there (and maybe ladies, too) who could demolish this whole thing on their own, but I have to imagine there aren't that many out there that can. Add in that the chicken fried steak is only $10 or so and comes with three eggs prepared the way you want them AND your choice of country potatoes or hash browns AND your choice of toast or biscuit and gravy, and you'll see that it's a great deal on the price, too. We stopped in for breakfast on our way to the March Meet at Famoso, place had quite a few customers so that was a good sign. I ordered some coffee right away and scanned the menu. I ordered a Denver omelet with country style potatoes and biscuit and gravy, my brother in law ordered Bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast. Order came out before I finished my first cup of coffee and all was great, waitress kept my coffee cup topped up and that's important. For a simple little cafe off of Highway 99, the food and service are perfection! I had the bacon, Swiss, avocado burger, with fries, and ranch. So delicious! The burger was juicy. I came by because this place is not far from my house. The staff was friendly, the menu was average. 2 eggs, corned beef hash, hash browns, sourdough toast, and coffee cost $10.70-ish. The hash browns had been cooked so that a "skin" developed on the side that was facing the grill. Apparently the cook thinks that is the side to be seen upright when you get your meal. Stopped in for a late breakfast on Memorial Day and we were immediately greeted at the door by a smiling server. This is exactly what you think a roadside diner should be with all the character and history that one would expect...the difference was that the food was actually not your typical greasy spoon fare...it was a wonderfully delicious surprise! Our server was super friendly and gave great advice about the food. We had a great grilled cheese on thick fresh bread with fresh ripe fruit, the 1/2 Chicken Fried Steak (more than enough!) with a fluffy biscuit and tasty gravy, and a well packed BLT with fresh juicy tomato. My wife and I were heading back to Sacramento, after spending the night at her sisters's. Was a little put off by the other reviews, but decided to try it anyway. Service was fast, food was good and adequate to large portions. Wife had oatmeal with all the fixings on the side. I had the chorizo and egg scramble, with a side of salsa, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. While not extraordinary, it was all good. Biscuit was fluffy, and the food was what you would expect at a truck stop. Filled with local regulars and truckers. Also, the bathrooms were clean. Also, was pulling a small utility trailer and it had plenty of easy parking in the unpaved portion of the lot. It's not fine dining, it's a truck stop. I got the French toast and it was one of the best I have had. It was fluffy and very flavorful. They are very friendly here. They also have a lunch menu which looks yummy. It's so easy to get caught up in going to the local franchises like Denny's for a standard breakfast, but it's fun to try a new local place. The food was extremely reasonable with a lot of it. I ordered the two eggs, cowboy potatoes with biscuit and gravy for 6.99. I enjoyed everything on my plate and my husbands. The biscuits were very good, not dry but extremely fluffy and moist. The potatoes were probably the best I have ever had, crisped perfectly, yet soft and fluffy on the inside and lots of bell pepper. We will definitely be back. read more

This place is a usual eatery for me. The service is always solid, and the food very consistent. If I am hungry I go for the full order of chicken fried steak. It is HUGE, and come with potatoes (hash browns or country potatoes), and a side of either toast or biscuits and gravy (get the biscuits and gravy). Most of the time I will order the combo omelette, which also comes with potatoes and a side. If you're feeling adventurous order a side of spicy sausage patty. It is a standard breakfast sausage patty loaded up with the hot stuff (usually cayenne or red chili flakes). It will certainly get you wide eyed in the morning. We went here thinking it was Kelly's Cafe. This place tries to copy Kelly's Cafe but falls extremely low. The food is very poor. I ordered the okie's special which was very gross. We arrived at 11 and they were out of biscuits and orange juice. Didn't understand why they couldn't make a quick batch when they still had 3 hours until they closed. My wife I and missed the memo stating that kelly's cafe had moved. But since we had driven so far we decided to stop at kk's. We were optimistic noticing that the parking lot was deceptivly full. We entered and the servers were nice enough. We had ordered two orange juices but only received one because the ran out of OJ. So I settled for a coffee. Not a big deal but a little annoying. My wife then ordered the "okie special" but it should be renamed the onion special because that seems to be the primary ingrediant. I orded the "world famous chicken fry". I went on a wing with this one because steak was not in it's name or description. But that wasn't the issue. It was supposed to come with a choice of either toast or biscuits and gravy but the waitress said they had run out of biscuits.. I thought "how can a diner open for breakfast and closes at 2 pm be out of biscuits"? I mean we were there around 10 it's not like it was closing time. It all made sense to me when I got my chicken fry. It was literally a cube steak that was dropped in bisquick and deep fried. Which would have been fine if the deep fried pancake batter wasn't a inch thick or of it tasted better or even if the breading would stay on. I have had and many of fried foods in my day. I have never seen breading fall off so easily. The worst though was the hash browns... they tasted freezer burned... and were cold in the center... how is it Denny's can give you decent hash browns but not a diner? Normally I could look past my over easy eggs swimming in grease but the crap kept adding up. It is as if the owners KK's were banking on Kelly's cafe old location and naming KK is like saying" hey we're related and we have the same quality food". But it fell so very short. read more

The chicken Fry was excellent (and being from Texas I have had a lot of chicken fry in my days and this ranks up there with the best of them) my wife order the Okie Special which was really good. My family did have to wait a few minutes for a table, and the biscuits weren't anything special. Feel the need to give a 5 star review to balance out the bad ones. I went to KKs and ordered a full breakfast, to find it filling, but good quality cooking as well. The bacon was thick and meaty, the hash browns were golden brown perfection, scrambled eggs were some of the best I've had. Biscuits and gravy were excellent. Waiting staff were chatty, cracked some jokes for us, and had a well groomed appearance. KKs is good old fashioned Americana. read more

Went here to get breakfast. First thing was tepid coffee. The eggs my husband ordered were so runny you could of drank it. My Denver omelet had white jelly like substance in it after first bite. They had barely cooked it. Gross. When I complained, they replaced them, but put the new omelet next to the old one. Are you serious? The service was like the cooking. Not really caring or having any pride in it. Maybe the service is better to the regulars that live nearby or the truckers that drive through. To add insult to injury the two meals cost about 19$. Today was the third and last time I will visit. First time, OKAY; second time my wife hated it, said the fried potatoes tasted like the grease hasn't been changed in ages, but I really wanted to like it and today I called in an order, and when I called in the lady answered with a friendly greeting but was talking full volume into the phone to someone else about the soda machine. I waited and then she said "Hello?!" like she was waiting on me, nevermind she was having a conversation with someone else, hilarious. At any rate, she took my order and said it would be right up. We waited a few minutes and went to pick it up. When we got there our order wasn't even placed yet. Bummer, but I can handle a few minute delay(although we were completely ignored when we arrived). We got our order which consisted of 3 orders of biscuits and gravy and one order of french toast, but we only received two orders of B&G not 3 like we ordered. Got home and the B&G was like salt paste, no kidding. They did not taste anything like gravy. If your eyes were closed it would have been impossible to tell what you were eating. The consistency was like melted cheese, it would string 6 inches off the fork and was so salty we literally gave it to the dogs(They loved it). Kind of a bummer, I really want to like it, its an out of the way old school diner, but its really bad, and the service was really unfriendly. read more
